you're better off aiming for high phys on your weapon since it's easier to roll for, most of xbow gems will convert phys to ele anyway, most passive nodes are also damage type neutral, so unless you really want to play a gem with no convert just grab two-handed, attack, ele damage, they're all the same shit, when playing phys gem just drop ele damage nodes.

so okay with 5k mana it adds 250 base mana cost but with +levels (absolutely necessary without archmage) then spells already cost like 200 so mana cost compared to non-archmage is just about double.

Take a few of the passive nodes that give big 30-40% increases to them.
For ES make sure you shoot for equipment that has both flat ES and a percentage increase in ES for best results.

It does. Having a high item rarity in poe 1 allows your currency drops to jump in tiers. From wisdoms to alts, from transmutes to alchs. It also increases the chance of a separate roll that can bump it to a divine or exalt if it rolls in your favor. All of this was added during the rarity rework in kalandra league

The first ascendancy is a forced debuff. this shit's objectively worse than nothing at all. It feels like you need the spell leech to keep up with the costs.
Then what do you get.... 1% crit bonus per 40 life? that's alright I guess, but it's completely mogged by other ascendancy trees.

Good game would just reward good builds better than PooE2 instead of fucking those players who use sub-1%optimal building.
Current character building systems are way too raw and imbalanced to afford such a tight tuning and design choices like current mapping.
The harder content and more cruel design choices are the bigger the pool of suboptimal builds is. And that pool falls off very hard, making it a shitty experience for a lot of players.
Current meta of such a prevalence of people playing deadeye, srs infernalist, lightning monk and spark sorc is the direct result of the game being too hard and thus unenjoyable to play with other builds.
GGG either should greatly improve the vast majority of passives, skills, items, which is near impossible to do, or make content easier and design - less punishing.

The first ascendancy isn't really noticeable as a downside early on, and the life buffer does a lot to defend against one shots in the campaign. When you get the leech node it jumps up to feeling great.
The crit isn't really a meme either, you can find videos of people bursting down t15 bosses in seconds with crit detonate dead. It's the only class that can scale dd that hard.

Minions are usually fast enough and since you have a 75% chance to conserve corpses they usually survive but if you're unlucky it becomes a problem. I'm having a bit of trouble sustaining them towards the end of the campaign.

How come I never really notice a big impact from broken armor? I assumed that the mechanic would be really powerful - being able to totally eliminate the enemies resistance to your physical attacks. But not really? The fighter has a bunch of mechanics to take advantage of the armor broken status, but the status itself doesn't feel like it has any impact.
Do enemies just have so much health that armor doesn't matter? Am I missing something?

Unironically GGG should do monthly wipes and give some incentive to farm lvl80/lvl90/lvl100 each time

so normally I don't mind getting hungry fangs affliction (5% health/mana lost when hit) because the whole point is to not get hit anyways and I've never really had a problem with it but I guess these guys have a small aura or their wind up is some sort of channelled attack and you get "hit" every 50ms

I'm playing Chayula as well. You use Ice Strike for basic mobbing and building combo dude. You miss out on a bit of phys converted to chaos, but you still have a good amount of "extra damage as chaos" nodes from the tree and you should still have a ton of phys damage to convert into cold
You zoomzoom with Ice Strike like anyone else, but you have the option to use things like Vaulting Impact for safely aoe clearing and Whirling Assault + Bell for bosses/rares

NTA, but from what I've understood, you pick Darkness for the Grasp of the Void node that gives you 1% of Damage as Extra Chaos per 20 Unreserved Darkness because it adds up real quick with all the extra chaos damage nodes you'll accumulate over time.

Incorrect. Darkness is useless garbage except as your first point you spec out of later. It tops out at 35% extra chaos damage if you've taken zero damage. The casino passive gives you 23% unconditionally and the flames one gives you up to 140%. Darkness is complete fucjing dogshit and the ascendancy doesn't have any particular synergy with chaos. It doesn't matter if you get 53% increased chaos damage or 11% extra chaos damage from the tree, none of that scales your damage more than just regular attack damage would.

It's completely fine, there is literally nothing wrong with it. It's only problem is that it isn't totally busted like a few of the others are.

What needs an overhaul is crossbow skills in general but there's literally nothing in the witchhunter nodes that don't work just as well with any other set of weapon skills.

The other node I'd touch is the leech nodes. Give the instant mana leech node another effect, like +50% leech effect or something.

Ok hear me out.
One of the breach nodes makes it so expending a charge to do something absorbs all embers in a large radius.
Darkness is scaled based on the difference between ES and Evasion, more equal (to a scale, maybe 1:5) gives you more darkness, maxing out at maybe 600 still. Or maybe just scaled by evasion (capped at some point), anything except current level. Dunno what to do about the useless darkness damage node though.

1. Cull+Decimating. Going from deleting 60% HP on normal mobs to 10% on unique mobs makes it impossible to balance, and other classes get access to Cull. At the very least, the Decimating Strike node should also provide "Culling Strike affects Unique targets as if they are rares".

2. Corpse Explosion. 10% is just not reliable, and the situational undead/demon thing is stupid as hell. Just change it to 20%.

3. Concentration. Bosses get rid of the debuff in phases so it's shit. Also it scales off of Hit damage just like Cull/Deci so Poison/Bleed builds literally have no DPS avenue in Witch Hunter.

4. Sorcery Ward. Actually the only thing I like about Witch Hunter. Just needs a ward effect on the health globe UI instead of just a buff number at the top left.

cull and decimate are nice but thats a gem and a pair of gloves. explody is nice, sorc ward is op but you need to shift your phys or it's useless, basically you need to run cloak of flames, which is pretty limiting.

WH is just factually way behind the curve. Before release the numbers on it were fine, not good, but fine. The problem is that we didn't know that concentration uptime couldn't actually be maintained no matter how well you play unless you can phase skip, in which case you have way better ascendancies to phase skip on, and the culling/decimating strike tree was being calculated under PoE1 culling mechanics. Its damage nodes are actually way below average in reality even though getting a 30% decimating is fucking average so you're basically playing for explosions and nothing else.

I actually don't see how my crossbow Witch Hunter would benefit from being a Dead Eye instead. Like the best thing is the extra projectile, but I'm very certain that doesn't match up to decimating / culling strike so idk why people are claiming Witch Hunter is so much inferior to other classes.

Maybe it's the crossbow?

It's not the crossbow. Crossbow is an awkward weapon but it's not a bad weapon, crossbow has multiple solid builds.

Deadeye is overtuned as hell so it's a bit of an unfair comparison but extra projectile just virtually doubles your damage output on a few builds since it typically means one click triggers twice. But otherwise, Tailwind is an incredible ascendancy that has amazing uptime at full value. Attack speed scales reload speed on top of it just being a very strong modifier on its own along with the speed boost you get, so if you're playing something like say, plasma blast/stormburst, which is arguably the strongest crossbow build in the game right now, the typical decimating set up on witch hunter only actually nets you about 25% more damage against a boss while deadeye is somewhere in the realm of 100% more damage in that case.

A more fair comparison though is running Witch Hunter against Gemling or Titan who are mostly considered fair ascendancies. Titan's average damage isn't necessarily higher than Witch Hunter's and I wouldn't really call it tankier either in the current state of the game, but it gets comparabble damage while scaling massive AoEs and a faster crossbow attack/reload sequence so the quality of life of just going crossbow titan goes a long way. It also has access to some very strong nodes on its side of the tree even for projectile weapons since the mercenary part of the tree is infamously garbage right now. Gemling has a weaker start but even without stupid ass staff shenanigans the ascendancy scales extremely well, you're able to crit/accuracy stack on gemling to fix your bolt issues and your grenades are stronger all around at end game. Unlike Witch Hunter, Gemling is very versatile too on a respec.

Witch Hunter has a few design issues but at the end of the day the real issue is simply just that its numbers are very bad. It doesn't have huge crippling issues

People are complaining about the sluggishness of the slow slam mace based brawler archetype
The same people complaining about the slow slam mace based brawler archetype are the same people that take the anchor nodes with -5% attackspeed

So not only are they avoiding taking any form of defense (like all zoomies), they also almost go out of their way to get as much negative movespeed and attackspeed as possible, then complain their build is slow and squishy (stampede explosion + HotG bleed is the best low-budget clear and bossing in the game btw)

Now not only this but they are also comparing a day 0, no budget negative speed warrior slam charge-up build with that of a 150div+ pillar stat stacking monk
These people are clinically insane

well the problem with decimate is it doesn't really matter where you want it to matter.
30% sounds like a lot but in practice thats just the first phase of a boss, they aren't doing shit so without it you just add a few extra seconds to the fight. cull is nice, but thats a gem.
deadeye outclasses it with survivability and damage with no real investment.
there is a place for witch hunter, people just haven't found it yet. imo it will be a caster blaster build where it really shines.
crossbows are gay trash.

The aoe comes from armour break I presume, but where does the faster attack and reload come from on Titan?

Also I get that if you run plasma blast without multiple projectiles you double your damage with a single extra projectile, but I already run plasma blast with 2 extra shots from gems and it's definitely not my main source of dps, but rather triggers shock for shock burst rounds which...

Nevermind I forgot an extra projectile basically doubles shockbursts dps as well. Maybe I do need to move my equipment over to a deadeye. So far I'm doing just fine on merc though and I love his banter and look.

i've found several that are just alone, but a lot of the iron i've found are around gothic cities and necropolis, all on what looks like farmland.
coppers are mineshaft and channel, maybe headland but i think thats an overlapping biome.

Every class has 1 - 2 one button builds that work, onetap the screen, kill everything. But the fun buttons are still dogshit. I barely even consider melee in this game to be melee, Monk or Warrior or whatever else, because even in Monk's case everything is perma frozen. You aren't actually interact with the mobs anymore than a mage faggot is freezing them on the other side of the screen. Unless they're a pinnacle boss.

Hulking form increases small node bonuses. This mostly means more damage and survivability but it actually also scales nodes like AoE. I feel like this is a side effect of their new gem philosophy and there seems only 1 real way to mitigate this is by adding a ton more skills and allowing some skills to cross over into other classes.

You say this about monks but the quarter staff tree seems pretty good compared to the choice of spells.
They both suffer from the same issue; if you want to play a fire archetype mage your options are like 1-2 spells
Monk is the same where they have 1-2 good attack skills and the rest is more movement/gimmick stuff like charge building (which is completely negated by combat frenzy) and there is no way to amp these up mechanically since the support gems just don't exist.
If there was a culling threshold gem (like 100% more culling threshold) and giving Killing Palm 5% increased culling threshold per level, it could actually serve as a good tool, but it's not that and you can't get it to be that either.

Bows actually have a few more options since they are more like flavours of damage rather then supportive skills.
I think Lightning supports and Physical Supports are primarily carrying these archetypes however.

I also don't see why Earthquake wouldn't be able to be used on Quarterstaves, or Boneshatter on Axes.

More weapon types will just mean more playstyles in this case, but they will have the same issue. What we need is higher quantity of skills per class and a wider variety of property-changing supports like Electrocute for the other skills. Look how many ways there are to get Lightning Penetration, Shock, Electrocute, Lightning Resistance -, chain, aoe, additional proj.
There are so many modifiers that dynamically change the way the skills work.
These supports simply don't exist for Fire or Chaos skills.

That's not entirely true. If you play bloodmage and pick first ascendancy at higher gem levels it literally tries to kill you. Casting curse with 3 support gems takes away like quarter of my life.
The trick is to not use that point until you finish second ascendancy.
And also, people don't know what skills to play with it, it's not as obvious as infernalist or elementalist ascendancies

The point is that none of the abilities on the Monk tree feel like real melee abilities. You're in melee range, but nothing is moving. Or you're playing Storm Wave, so you aren't melee. The closest thing you have to melee is Tempest Strike and that kills things the fastest of all those options so it might as well perma CC them. But comparing them to spellcasters having 1 - 2 spells per element (3+ for a couple of them, and beyond that it depends on how you rate Cast on X-casted spells in the equation) isn't really fair. Because they at least get to choose elements. All elements in Monk builds become the exact same with the only choice being the colour of your auto attack. I originally wanted to play cold Monk, but Charged Staff literally quadruples your damage so I'm retarded to not run it, so now I'm automatically dual elements and it's objectively better to spec into lightning stuff or general elemental damage now. At least Sorc can stick to their guns and stay single element with no issues and have the option for all three elements in any matching order, if they want.

But I agree with the rest of it. There should be more overlapped skills between trees, similar to how Unarmed skills are usable with any build as they are now.

That said, the real real issue is that the game has just devolved back into one button builds because Jonathan has no idea what the fuck he's doing in endgame content yet to maintain the vision. As soon as they introduce gems designed to combo between abilities, ie. [if X-type is used after Y-type gem, get special effect], or if they simply take all the one-button builds during the beta, we'll see more variety by extension of individual skills not being able to carry you..

You just picked the objectively highest DPS Monk build and said it's stronger than anything Warrior does. Yeah no shit. This isn't meant to be a dickwaving comparison between which melee is shittier. It's that melee isn't good just because you can stand a metre from the enemy and they die. Perfect Strike Warrior is also killing difficulty 5 pinnacle bosses in literally one hit, but people won't say that feels melee either.
The point is there's fuck all versatility and the closest things we have to melee right now are so far detached from what anyone actually wanted out of melee, and even when they're viable you're forced to do the exact same thing on every build.

But yes, you're right, you don't have to run Herald of X. But you're retarded for doing so because you've just lost a bunch of damage for no reason other than because you love cock and ball torture and telling people how special you are for not doing it. There is a way to curve the loot generation so the value of gear and the progression is reasonable, you just don't have to sort through so much garbage to find it. Can someone explain mapping to me? I barely get any waystones so it's not self sustaining. Right now I'm usually just using orbs of transmutation and augmentation to upgrade normal maps to increase modifiers. There's also barely any good loot so it feels more like an xp farm for a shitty passive tree or currency farm to buy something from someone whose in higher tiers. When do maps start getting good loot or making you feel like you have progressed?

I coped so hard after playing the betas that it's unfinished and they intentionally left out stuff to reveal later so that the whole game didn't get spoiled. Then like a retard I bought the 90$ version to get early access. They hadn't hidden anything. The game came out just as unfinished feeling as it was in the beta. All the skill trees felt and looked unfinished. I coped that they just pulled modern AAA tricks and cut content to release it as an update. They didn't. Necromancer minions looked like they were from a 2015 mobile game. I coped that they did that because they were going to sell better looking minions as MTX. They didn't. I coped that surely the endgame is going to be fun. It wasn't.

I played the free weekend of D4 and decided the game wasn't for me. I did feel a bit of regret during the launch when everyone was talking about it, but that went away pretty quickly.

The combat just didn't feel fun compared to Lost Ark and it somehow managed to look worse.

And then i did the boss and you know what? it was actually OK for a first boss, i had to avoid stuff on the ground, it could actually damage me and even kill me if i played carelessly. I still didnt buy the game because i dont like heavy handed story telling elements like in game cutscenes being used all that often. Look at PoE2, when they have stuff going on in the story you can at least run around as people talk, its so much less jarring, theres also less of it than D4. D4 also just felt like an MMO type game with mmo type quests. The combat in the beta was actually better than average for these types of games, but everything else was shit.

I'm doing tier 12/13's atm, even a couple of t4 items I've found aren't even worth an exalt. If an item rolls t4 health for example, or doesn't even have it, nobody fucking wants it. The higher tier rarities are about as rare as they should be, but the problem is they're still more than likely very very bad.
No I don't want class based loot drops because that destroys trade.

I just want items to be generated so they're guaranteed a mimimum quality so that every time something drops, you know at least some one is going to want it, because it has at least a couple of decent rolls, and rare items would be just that, actually rare. The only affect would be that you aren't sorting through so much god damn trash loot. I don't know why you'd actually choose this system where you're forced to constantly stop and unidentify and stash items, or just leave good loot unsorted amongst the trash.

I tried booting PoE1 again.
Played my cyclone build, felt ok.
Played my lightning strike build, felt like shit.
What I would give for PoE1 to get WASD ... but the atlas is soooo much better it's unfair.
Also I almost forgot how wonderful the support gems on 1 were.

Change Invoker with Titan. Warrior anons have always helped me out with any questions I have, and Invokers are pretty damn fucking meta. They have one of if not the best Defensive Ascendancy node in the game. They are insanely strong.

I grinded all the way to T15s, those rarely fucking ever drop for me, I just end up working my way backwards with waystones since they never seem to drop a tier higher than what I'm playing.
