Parry is a bad answer because it's literally random since he can very the timing and he's plus on block. Air to air is best imo even though it's still inconsistent because buttslam is just such a shitty move and sometimes your air to air will just go the wrong way
You can actually OS the side switch with DP by wiggling real quick from df to db to df. Gets you a crosscut if he side switches and normal dp if he doesn't. I can't do that in matches though. Takes practice and good reactions to be ready for that.

I found this safejump setup for a counter DI that seems strong, was wondering why I never see people use it instead opting to go for just craneflip > light SBK, or the jump jump sideswap..then i realized the timing is tight, and it only works if your back is right against the wall when you counter DI. Shame.

You ARE playing footsies, BUT your opponent doesnt know that you wont turn green so your footsies are actually fake unless you play Manon or Cammy, the longer and faster the Drive Rush the faker your footsies even if you dont use it.

I actually think they should've giving Modern and Classic completely different meter system & rules like isms in Alpha 3. Like lock Modern out from the drive system altogether, no DI, PP, or drive rush. Basically if you want the sauce and more mechanics play Classic.

Instead have Modern just use a basic EX bar that starts empty. For the super bar, Modern only gets 1 bar and 1 Super but it does critical art damage regardless of health, so like high 40s in terms of damage. This gives Modern that old school meta like when Balrog had a super loaded in ST.

Nah, Modern just gives players more ways to tailor their game to their own preferences which is always a good thing in fighting games. And yeah, it has it's strong points but it also has it's weak points. That's how it should be. Increase player expression while maintaining balance. Modern & Classic rides that line better than even the old groove & ism systems seen in the past.

Newbies will just go "whats the point" if they do that and not play at all. Locking it out of master at least will give the message that this is the time you should learn classic. Still give them the rank to display on their profile once they reach it, but most players, esp new ones will not even see master as attainable so this won't bother them. By the time they reach master hopefully they will be hooked enough to the genre to learn more and take it to the next level.

I have never really struggled against a Modern player, they're usually an easy win for me. Maybe because I rarely jump since I play Chun-Li. Only thing cancerous in Modern in my opinion is Chun's level 2 and her instant air legs, there's nothing else that comes to mind. Modern Chun-Li is extremely powerful, far stronger than Classic right now

It's definitely true that Modern has a lower floor than Classic, but I think their relatively equal when it comes to their ceilings. When playing Modern as optimized as possible, I don't think the execution gap significantly exist between the two outside of specific neutral situations. To get the most juice out of Modern that you can, you pretty much have to make use of manual commands & routes.

Now ofcourse, you don't have to play Modern as optimized as possible if that's not what you value. There are Modern masters that still use auto combo routes or the SP button when they know they could get more damage going manual but that's fine. That's the player expression i'm talking about it.

In SF4 some players did the hard 1 frame link stuff to squeeze as much out as possible, while some others stuck to very basic combos because they valued consistency over optimization. And there is nothing shameful about going the easier route. That's one of great aspects of fighting games. I don't want forced homogenized choices. As long as balance is not being comprised, let ppl express their values & preferences the way they see fit.

Buffering takes time, focus and you need to sacrifice your neutral for it. You don't need to do that with Modern Chun-Li. Do you realize how stronger this makes Chun's neutral?

A lot of Modern characters don't have all the tool that Modern Chun has. They lose essential normals, don't have any particular good super to check fireballs and I think some of them even lose special moves. Modern Chun-Li has everything, she has all of her best normals, good one button special move and an amazing level 2.

Modern strengthens that area for sure but using the phrase, "completely shuts down" is unserious. M can't react to every option at once, no one can. So when a M player checks a jump, drive rush, or fireball/normal it means they were mentally focused on that 1 option at that moment and guessed right.

Another point that gets glossed over is the damage cut. Mena pointed it out as a drawback of M back at the first EVO for sf6 and I think time has really confirmed his view that 20% does it's job at balancing. I would even say the damage penalty was one of the major reasons for why Haitani lost to Mena in top 6.

In fact, I think M Luke illustrates this point the best. His level 1 is probably his greatest tool over C Luke(well, before the nerf) but at the same time it's probably the biggest reason why M Luke has relatively no feats in tournament despite the caliber of players that tried him. M Luke players regularly fall into the trap of sacrificing super build to use level 1 checks but the level 1 barely does more damage than a grab despite the opportunity cost.

People want to paint the devs as incompetent but man, I think it's impressive how correct they were with 20% being the exact right amount of damage tax to balance the shortcuts. It still keeps the M inputs useful but demands that you really got to be good and straight up outplay your opponent to win. Honestly, with how extremely unbalanced similar systems in the past like groves, isms, and picking diff vers. of chars in SF2 were, it's crazy how perfectly balanced C & M is. I got to give my hat to the devs on this one.

The reality is it allows you to deal damage when the alternative is a failed/late Classic input.
If you cant do a real DP then heres the damage you deal when someone jumps at you, are you ready?
ZERO!
Now lets say you switch to [M] and your Modern DP saves you and you deal 80% of a real DP instead of ZERO, so you dealt MORE damage, AND you dont have to deal with the opponents plus frames because you anti aired them.
If you arent ready to quickly DP a fake/unsafe Drive Rush Cancel then youd deal... thats right, ZERO DAMAGE and have to take a plus on block mix, with Modern DP you get to deal damage AND avoid the mix.
If you arent ready to buffer a Super in Burnout then you deal... drumroll please... ZERO damage AND take the full stun combo, with the one button super you now deal damage and avoid the stun combo.
Do not EVER say that Modern does less damage in terms of defensive moves ever again it is disingenuine and ignorant to say that.
This is also completely glossing over the fact that the input for a DP and a level 3 makes you unable to input back for quite a while, especially important for trying to buffer during a burnout blockstring.

I understand Kim, she is literally the most unfun char to fight in this game. But honestly, JP and Sim are fine. Just be aggressive with Sim and throw out DI every now and then, basically overwhelm him. One mistake and you can take him to corner and ass rape. And as long as you're not using Guile, you can outplay the JP player just fine by making good reads.

Basically all sticks have the same mapping, Street Fighter is so influential that Sticks have that layout so that they will be on the traditional SF layout by default fresh out of the box, DAMN everything is literally tailor made for CapCHADs.

official rules are you can have 4 buttons for directionals, plus 11 (or 10, i dont remember now) for other buttons, including macros. you just cant have 2 or more buttons doing the same thing.

Are you a lower ranked player? Not trying to be insulting but I think that may be why you're struggling so much here. To repeat, yes M super provide real utility but you can not look out for every option at once. When M is in burn out in the corner with a super locked, he can't be looking for a way to interrupt/jump out pressure, tech throws, check shimmy, etc, and be ready to M super a DI at the same time. That's literally not possible.

If a Modern player checks a DI in that scenario it means he was waiting on you to do it, that was your cue to go for pressure or throw, and when you feel he's shifted focus, then try for DI. This happens all the time. Yet you seem to be of this notion that M players can get a life lead and then never be opened up. If you're failing to open up your Modern comp it's because you're failing to juke their mental stack, brother.

Yeah the RB/RT and LB/LT are "flipped" and if they were the "correct" way around it would be very quick to rebind it for the control scheme you want.
However its more important that the default control scheme is the standard arcade layout so most players can just plug the stick in and play even if they go to a different set up.

I dont think that and I did not say that, do not strawman my arguments please.
You can open them up because the offense in this game is prediction based, strike/throw/shimmy cannot be reacted to.

You realise mental stack is not a static thing right? Different players will be able to cope with more pressure than others.
Also when your moves are quicker and easier to input the mental stack is less of a factor, mental stack only slows you down, quicker Modern inputs mitigates it all massively.
If all you have to do is block and react to DI with 1 button a lot of people will be able to do that, and we know this for a fact because people do it all the time when they have meter.
Also I dont like that using a 1 button super on a drive impact is the same reaction window as just doing a DI back, massively reduces the risk of burnout.
You also didnt address that you cant input block when buffering certain supers and specials, what if your buffer causes you to get hit low or just hit in general, not an issue in modern as back or down back can still be a lvl3 allowing you to sit there and block easily and press 1 button for your reversal.

This is quite minor but if you buffer a Spin Knuckle, Hazanshu or Bakkai in classic you could end up doing a super, in Modern the motion input supers are strength dependent so you can buffer like crazy as long as the strength of special you will do isnt also the input for a super with that motion.
Bisons Psycho Crusher is charge and Lilys Windclad Condor spire must be OD so they arent really affected by this "issue".
Did I miss any other moves like this?

SFV was an excellent fighting game, its biggest issue was that it didn't have enough to reel in the casual crowd, so people's reactions online were mostly negative toward it, although it did get a Cinematic Story mode and an excellent Arcade Mode (arguably the best in the series) later on.
It had a bigger roster and rolled out content updates and balance patches at a much faster cadence than SF6.

SF6 by contrast brings in many new additions specifically aimed at the casual crowd: world tour, modern controls, universal system that dictates every second of every game, you can't go 2 seconds withotu someone using drive something, battle pass to give meta-rewards just for playing the game... It should surprise no one given the added focus on MTX with the season pass, the removal of Fight Money to unlock characters for free, and the monetization of avatar costume parts.

Once SF6 hits Switch 2 I would not be surprised to see it surpass Smash in sales. The game is incredible and right now the only holdouts are Nintendo-only players and they'll get hooked once it's on a Nintendo system.

Tekken 8 is a predictable follow-up to a series that's never aimed particularly high, it may please casual gamers for a day or two but the stagnant ongoing series is definitely in the second tier of fighters way below Capcom or NRS games, and it's seriously getting old and tired. The lack of depth and subtlety and the emphasis on the offensive, rather than the defensive, puts this squarely two notches below the best in the genre, the shallow gameplay leaves much to be desired from a serious fighting game player. Like the prequels, Tekken 8 is geared towards casual gamers and anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat have advanced impressively in their latest instalments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" heat moves are just laughably broken. Instead of supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T8 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their Heat move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, Heat system also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.

For stick/leverless players, do you guys input DI and Parry by pressing both button manually, or do you use the shortcut? I've never used more than six buttons for a fighting game, but I'm more consistent using the shortcut when inputting the fast DR.

I use Impact and Parry shortcuts for my 7th and 8th buttons.
I didnt use shortcuts in Jive just the 6 buttons but I feel like you Impact and Parry so often and can need precise timing so I dont like MP+MK/HP+HK, maybe Ill try them though.

ive played fighting games on stick for over a decade but I play with a controller and modern on SF6 for 2 reasons.

-its more comfortable and chill and thus increases the little enjoyment I get from this game
- I do not take SF6 as seriously or sweaty as other SFs or fighting games due to the mechanics being so volatile and mickey, so playing with chill vibes on modern is nice.

anyways, if you complain about modern, your fundamentals just suck. modern players dont ever get any relevant results in anything. the trade off of losing, most of the time, very important normals and also losing out on damage in a game where that damage could close out a round in 2 interactions instead of 3-4, to be able to do a 1 button DP or level 3 isn't as amazing as you think in a game where its easier than ever to coinflip with drive rush.

DR for oki is way too cheap but otherwise I dont mind the idea.
DR cancel for plus frames is ok considering they made basically everything minus so I get the idea and it does use 3 bars so it is quite costly.
