I just got to maps and wtf is this? How come nothing is explained?
What's the goal in the atlas, why would I want to upgrade the waystones when it makes the maps harder? What are the rules like how many times you can reenter a map?

I still don't understand the Warbringer Block Ascendancy.

The 40% base ends up being worthless because you can find shields with upwards of 35% block. And it's more than easy enough to cap block at end game anyway even without 10/10 gear.
Furthermore, the second one lowers your block massively just so you can block everything but when it's so low, it makes it so much harder to cap block if you even can with that fucking ascendancy, making it fucking worthless.
And then you've just spend two fucking Ascendancies on something other than damage that gives you fucking nothing in return.

What the FUCK were they thinking????????

sorry I must be missing all the l33t 5 and 6 button builds everyone else is using.
in ssf its much harder to have a big life pool or great weapon so you have to actually dodge and pay attention to positioning.

I hope they fix melee survivability, otherwise there will only be gemlings sporting real two handers and every warrior/marauder will have to be hiding behind a shield.

This has been the build I've been working on since day 1 (work full time with wife+kid and have been slowly working through Acts doing co-op with my son, so basically pulling double duty for character planning). Damage modifiers need to be tuned way the fuck down for passive tree modifiers on the player side, flat Damage needs to be WAY lowered across the board for enemies across the board, and they need to radically about face their end game mob design and make smaller groups of deadlier enemies. Melee will feel good then.

barrage and voltaic mark (also I'm still using freezing salvo instead because I can't be bothered to change yet and freezing something with ice bite boosts every other skill and generates frenzy charges if I didn't electrocute anything recently). all extremely standard btw. but on trade people probably just have better weapons on average and don't need to do as much on any build.

First of all, Warriors are basically tied to their weapons. Anything else can be just "okay" but a Warriors weapon is pretty much needed to be god tier at any given time. Some builds can get around this, totems and the meme corrupting cry shout build for example. But for the most part, you want a top tier weapon.

Next, in the campaign, I found basic attack with things like Rage and stun dmg slotted into it were king for leveling. Just basic attack with a one-hit stun, press bone shotter with the AOE dmg gem forgot it's name and Herald of Fire would clear screens but also be a good boss killer. Other than that, the BEST boss killer for leveling and campaign was hands down that charged attack. Shout to empower it, charge, let go at the proper time, suddenly boss has lost 80% of it's HP if I didn't one-shot it.

the majority of damage in the game is physical
fire damage is far easier to reduce because of resistances, but a lot of characters north/east of the tree lack flat physical DR
this is 2fold where you also get lower bleeds and poisons on you as the converted poison
you also get more benefit from any little amount of armour you already have since it works better against smaller hits

It vastly increases your survivability

NTA but Witch Hunter is one of the worst designed ascendancies in the game right now. It's just lucky that mathematically it's okay and it's really quite simple so it remains strong enough to be playable. Blood Mage is probably the only other ascendancy that's stupider than Witch Hunter. Maybe Acolyte, but I wouldn't call them poorly designed as much as they're totally fucked by their tools not being in the game and I expect them to get a lot better later.

Hideouts spawn randomly on map nodes and you have to navigate into them and clear them to unlock the hideout. There doesn't seem to be any consistent seed to them but they're decently common.

Also the hideout you get from a node is totally random so good fucking luck targeting one. I'm in t15 and I've never seen a shrine hideout even though I've seen every other one like ten times.

How you deal with the native map mobs doesn't affect Breach mobs eitherway. You increase Breach mob size and density with waystone mods. Then you get to see more Breach mobs in that map when you extend the Breach duration from killing them quickly.

I think it's safe to say the majority of the playerbase started was stormweaver archmage when the game launched.
I mean we're kinda in post-launch so people are breaking the game (something that happens every league) so builds are reaching their apex but it seems like archmage worked out of the box

So not only are you locked behind big physical hits, you also need to spend enough mana for the full effect of the mana leech to be relevant
tl;dr if you leech 100 mana / hit but only have 20 missing mana, you leech 20 mana

What the fuck is the boss of the ultimatum ascendancy trial? When i fought the chimera round one there were pillars I could break. But in the trial there isn't even a boss arena, just a bunch of narrow pathways? Can't kill him if i keep my distance cus he's in the air, but if I get close he'll use his acid spray attack, which oneshots with no counterplay because all of the projectiles overlap and shotgun cus there's hardly any space on the previously mentioned tiny pathways?

I play as a merc so I already have good physical DR from armour and evasion to armour conversion
I then use sorcery ward on my witch hunter for taking way less elemental damage
So i now understand how this makes more sense for intelligence characters too because chaos damage goes through es but this makes it that atleast some of that chaos damage from physical becomes fire instead which es can take
I like how I am finally learing poe 1 through poe 2 because I have time to understand the mechanics better

Did that fight on my monk earlier today and literally just facetanked all of his attacks. Aside from the oneshot minigame where you have to run to different points he's really weak. Get your 75% honor resistance, get as many boons as possible, and he's a faceroll. The biggest problem I've seen people have is them not understanding the oneshot phase (only ever roll at the very end since it slows you down) or running out of mana/not having enough dps so the fight takes 10 minutes. But damage wise he literally just tickles.

Nah, storm wave with freeze for clear and flurry/bell for bosses. Maybe I took no damage because of "lead me through grace" giving me 55% armour and evasion, since that boss mostly does small attacks.

Yes, you get a staggerbar above the flasks. If that bar goes full you are stunned. Afaik the armor value makes your staggerbar tougher
Raise Shield makes the fights where you can block absolutely trivial. For example Jamanra will try to shoot tiny lightnings from his fingertips if you just stay close to him, and you can block those. Hit hit block, hit hit block. You can even block the silverback smash, you will break your guard but take only pitiful damage.

I guess the better question would be who doesn't benefit from it? Invoker for example that already gets a lot of physical DR

In poe1 you were able to convert 100% of phys dmg taken as something else in a lot of cases so you could give up on phys DR entirely

their stat system doesnt support that sort of gameplay well though. you can already do that boss fight in like 3-4 seconds by taking % damage nodes (could have around 100% extra damage by level 10) and also having some hand me down noob gear, like iron rings, a lvl 1 bow with % damage and maybe some flat damage bonus. Keep in mind these are things which can drop organically if you are lucky. There is % damage on top of flat damage and also "more" damage and when they are used well together the bosses feel like white mobs at times. if bosses had any more HP they would be too hard for new players or guys who got unlucky with drops or cant figure out how to do combos.

The balancing act between exponential stat growth and mechanical skill based combat is hard to pull off well. I think acts 4-6 will probably be somewhat well balanced but then once you get to maps again it will just be poe1 with less movement, i dont think they can get away from that, if you nerf stuff too hard because someone figured out how to be OP with it then it wont be usable for the guys using it in mediocre builds and it will just funnel more people to abuse the stuff that is OP and hasnt been nerfed yet up until the point where there are only 1-2 "viable" builds and everything else is seen as unplayable.

The caveat with evasion before was that even at 95%, some hits would certainly go through and chunk you and you needed a layer for that. This isn't really the case now, even if you don't one click screens a lot of mobs just won't hit you as long as you're able to move so if a few get through the new defensive layer of distance they then have to get through the old defensive layer of evasion.

Stay out of one shot range, get enough evasion to avoid most hits, and get enough HP to survive small taps from monsters that lead into wind dancer knockback. There is never any circumstance where you have to check the 20 hits per second you might have to in PoE1 and mitigate against that.

Defensive ascendancies would be much more appealing if they could actually survive like Juggernaut or Trickster. Chayula and Witch Hunter have horrible defensive layers, the former locks you out of a ton of tools and the latter is only really good for sanctum farming since it makes you more vulnerable to physical one shots otherwise.

Minion AI is fucking terrible and playing it when all your minions explode to a light breeze is also annoying as shit. One of the only good builds otherwise, just takes awhile compared to the other top dogs that start zooming very early on and never really actually clears fast in comparison to them so unless you really like minions there's no real reason to play it.

Let me put this into perspective. At level 84 the most darkness I would be able to have is 676 burning 4 (realistically 6) ascendency points and comes back, at it's fastest in 5 seconds post hit.
Ghost Dance, for me, is 685 ES per hit every 2.24s and stacks up to fucking three. And again, darkness interacts with nothing. No stat, no ability, nothing. The damage steroid it gives you is only applicable when it's untouched for a measly 20% extra.

I'm convinced big changes are coming that will obliterate this kind of gameplay. Jonathan doesn't want the game to be like this, but that's how their copy/pasted endgame mechanics are forcing people to build. There are multiple layers of budget you can throw into Archmage. I remember when Lance's tooltip on spark was like ~20k dps with rawhide belt for mana recoup.
Then he swapped it for ingenuity belt that boost both of your ring substantially and update gear. Got to 40k dps spark tooltip.
Then he got the Mahu shield and updated tree.
Got to 60k dps spark tooltip.
Now it's almost 120k dps...

I don't know how it goes for other classes as I only played Sorc but holy shit it's like where is even the limit.

meanwhile ssf is cancer because you cant craft anything and yes i know you can choose what items you use your currency on but you genuinely dont drop enough crafting bases to burn through your currency if you are only crafting a few (multiple) slots at a time. if you have a decent mace and are trying to upgrade it, you trans + aug every mace base and like 95% of them will be so fucking terrible that theres not even a point in using a regal or exalt because the item is guaranteed to be worse than your current item unless you hit a 0.0001% chance sequence of slams.
like many things in poe2, slam crafting is a cool idea but it just doesnt work in practice. either drops are so common that trade gets hilariously inflated or they are so rare that ssf is unplayable. or its in the middle and both are the case, like right now.

FromSoft figured this shit out decades ago with diminishing returns. It foes stop everything, but the vast majority of the player experience is as intended because after a certain point you end up pumping a ton of stats for small upgrades to damage when those points would have been better spent elsewhere. Those breakpoints are where the game is balanced around, and it's worked for more than 6 games and a ton of DLC.

Isometric Dark Souls Diablolike would be so fucking good, and nobody in the industry want to take the plunge to break the genre apart to do it.

Anon, THIS VERY GAME is built around stat allocations. You literally cannot use skills if you don't meet the requirements.

The issue is that the Passive Skill Tree provides WAY too much fucking damage in most applications (too little in some), enemies deal too much damage, and there are too many trash mobs to properly play melee with unless your "melee" character is actually a midrange magic finger with a weapon in their hand.

Make a proper game, with proper encounters, ton down damage, and it will basically fix itself.

yes but stat requirements are not the same as stat scaling. ALL elden ring builds are based around how much you dump into stats for every single facet of your character your health, your cast speed, your stamina, literally everything. poe unless you are literally stat stacking is not like this, you hit stat requirements to use gear and skills but you scale your damage, health, mana whatever the fuck through the tree and mods on your gear, it's a COMPLETELY different way on how to handle an rpg. the fact that you think it's the same is fucking retarded

its very incomplete.
pinnacle bosses are basically impossible to reach on your own without ridiculous investment. i am level 83 and easily clearing t15s. i target breach and deli whenever possible. i have 28/300 breach splinters and 4/300 sim splinters.
on top of that, theres like a total of 10 fuckin maps and half of them suck ass, and half of your maps are "traversal nodes" where the map is horrible but you need to complete it to get to the good stuff.
the atlas is just annoying as fuck too, i am constantly like 'shit where did i put that node that is 5 screens away'
it feels pretty awful

I stopped playing Poe1 for a while since it felt like I was getting kicked in the nuts trying to make builds that I actually wanted to play.
The game has some weird double wammy, where they nerf as much as they can all the time so that you end up with like 1% of stuff that outperforms everything else by miles just by virtue of avoiding the bald one's ire. And then at the same time they assume everyone's running that one build so they balance all the end game content around it. Poor suckers like me get caught in the middle; being smacked with the nerf hammer because I share a skill gem with mr. magebloood who is clearing top tier content in a fraction of a second. And then GGG balance the game as if everyone is mr mageblood.
With what the haired fat retard was saying I thought PoE2 would get away from that; but ironically they've tanked build diversity in an effort to curb power scaling, but the end result is the exact same builds that have been a staple of every league in PoE1 for the last like, five years. So there doesn't seem to have been any substantial improvement on that front despite gutting the depth of the game.

I couldn't find much in the way of skill synergy aside leveraging active block, and I did get 50% increased thorn damage on a shield corrupt a while ago; so it seems like there's plenty of increased, and dirt cheap to get added since its usually a brick mod. Not sure about more.
Actually bramblejack is reflected not thorns. I know during the showcases there was a lot of reflection, and they were some pretty nice looking numbers. Not sure why they shitcanned it all for thorns which seems to have very little way to scale via more damage. Especially since its not a skill, so there's no way to support thorns. Would be cool if taking a hit while blocking made the thorn damage originate from the skill.

They always do this, Anon. GGG patches two or three times tops unless the game is literally melting. If it's the Holidays you're lucky to get anything at all and you won't see those kiwi fucks until February, minimum. Necropolis was a literal disaster and they still just threw out a couple of patches and then said fuck it we'll make an apology league for the next one. It's just how they do things. If anything I'm surprised we got any patches at all. The unreal amount of normie shilling means they have at least a few months to fuck up the game as much as possible before the hordes move on to the next current thing.

GGG works off of hype cycles. You'll see them again when the next supporter packs are ready to release. They've said in interviews it's not worth their time to fix things unless it's for a hype cycle because it doesn't actually do much for the player count or income.

Secondly, It does nothing for active blocking. Which means it has no impact on magma barrier. No effect on nodes like Towering Shield and actively and substantially reduces damage from Lay Siege and Offensive Stance.
All of which are things people who have actually run that node know, which apparently excludes you.

having approximately 200 life (double mings and ghostwrithe and 0 sources of life anywhere including strength) means that each stack of demon form is doing about 1 life/sec damage to you. as long as your regen counters that, you can stay in demon form. i have about 200ish regen, so i can sustain 200 stacks before it starts to degen me. with flask, you can hold on for a bit longer. you stack ES for hp with grim feast to double overcap your ES. i have 5k ES base right now which overcaps to 10k. the build doesnt use "low life" as a mechanic, it literally just has a giga low hp cap to minimize the damage demon form does

It's not random, they suffocate your character and you drown.
It's a mechanic from a pineapple boss in PoE 1.

Only difference is you drown 5x faster in PoE 2 and there is no visual graphic on your screen to notify you're drowning, just a small 2-3 sec debuff in the top left.

i feel like i am getting close to the theoretical limit, and the build is getting more expensive lately. i would say the cap before you are looking at BIS gear is probably around like 250 stacks. if youre hoofing it, this is usually enough to clear a whole map or be close. if you reach your limit and need to drop out, you can just wait for like 10 seconds for the cooldown and then hop right back in. it does kill the momentum a bit, but its not that bad.

the most powerful damage base comes from fragmentation rounds ONLY against a frozen target and the variance goes from piss damage to +2000% physical, it's retarded
you're basically forced to play grenades if you want decent clear speed

I wasted a fair number of orbs trying to roll good items ("haha won't it be great if this exalt orb added a +damage mod") from zero and it's quite demoralizing. However adding mods to an item you're already wearing somehow feels much better. Another thing is that i"m not getting many +resist runes, so not rolling +resist on an item makesnit hard to justify putting it on.

Plenty of offensive power with armor break and more damage done to armor stuff. Shouts, totems, slams all work fine. Probably some non standard paths to go too no one has really played with yet.
