He did the honourable thing and extended himself more than he needed to in order to give your officers another week to find a replacement.
I would have more sympathy with your officers if this was a Mythic retail raiding tier where finding competent replacements is hard and finishing out the tier in very high end guilds is expected versus just dropping immediately.
But this is either 'Niller, where Molten Core is fucking free, SoD, in which you can find a replacement from one of the fresh waves of people coming in right now, or Cata, where the tier isn't difficult enough to warrant this type of attitude.
I don't personally see how the Paladin is in the wrong, he's not leaving it vague, he's not insulting your officers. He just doesn't feel like he fits in.
