There would be a 1.0 actually but 1.5 is what currently people play as the default. Anyway quick rundown:
>1.5 = arcade ver
>1.51 = arcade ver but with some small changes
>Arrange B = weird scoring-focused stage select version, not exactly something you can "clear"
>Arrange L = you play as a stronger version of the A ship from DOJ plus you are Leinyan
>Novice 1.5 = what it says on the tin, easy mode
>Black Label = 1-round game with secret TLB at the end and an insane rank system
>Novice BL = what it says on the tin
>BL arrange = Ketsuipachi, you control the orange ship and it uses a similar scoring system on top of regular DFK chaining

Also, for optimal score you gotta read the wiki, honestly it's complex because you have to mind the hit count and hyper rank. For survival either when you have a chance to chain hypers together or when you want to keep your bombs really.

I think hyper is supposed to boost combo hits in scoring run. But in survival run case maybe just keep it for speedkill on boss battle or some difficult areas. And make it into your route, don't rely on emergency situation to use it because it's a terrible strat.

If you're asking, then you're probably not an expert level player. I'm a novice, still under a dozen 1CCs, and my fave game from your list by far is ZeroRanger. In fact, ZeroRanger is my number one video game of all time. Raging Blasters is really nice for beginners because it's easy to 1CC Normal and Hard mode. It also has a fun score attack mode that I've sunk a lot of time in. Sisters Royale is really charming. One recommendation I'd have is to just play more demos if they're available. That said, if I only had a couple of dollars, I'd probably go for ZeroRanger and Devil Blade Reboot if I was you.

My only goal currently is achieving 1-ALL specifically playing as B-S and in white label for extra challenge, but I do things like trying to chain half of stage 1 and that post-midboss section in stage 2 with the hyper, or stage 4 pre-cannon purely because slightly better score. I heard somewhere it runs the game a frame less than the Switch version (2 frames of lag), and since leaderboards are not shared between consoles, you will only see the tryhard players on the PS4 version, which is pretty useful because you can download their replays and learn from them. It's better than the Switch version, but just barely

There are score extends in the game (dunno what the score amount needed for them is in 1.1) and depending on the order of the stages you choose, some enemies may drop life-up items. Also, defeating Jitterbug without using any bombs on him drops a 2-life-up cake before Tyrannosatan.

3-death run isn't bad unless you mean prior to Hades Castle, in which case you probably need to practice the stages some more.

haven't played either of the 2 you mention, but xmas shooting mostly have slow bullet patterns + bullet cancelling on every ennemy + an hyper that gives you a free hit everytime ou activate it
It also has only 3 stages and only one real big difficulty spike (the stage 3 fortress)

It was fun. I always used that 3DS stand that was packaged with it. I remember eventually clearing the first 10 or so stages on 9.0 difficulty and then not being good enough to do any of the rest. Funny to think we're already about halfway to being due for another sequel.

"Unfortunate" doesn't begin to describe my runs, this game rewards blind luck and nothing else, I am beyond convinced at this point. After getting completely obliterated at stage 5 by forgetting to bomb and making my way to the big bee boss, losing this way somehow felt even worse than I had thought possible. My routing was superior, my score was superior(to the average survival Exy run anyway), and I lost, so I don't see a reason to continue engaging in an attempt where what you dodge is overwhelmingly outweighed by what you bomb.

I am done with B-S DOJ WL, and you won't get a fond farewell. This thread is infected to its roots with degenerative Shotiaposting that grows stronger over time but stops short of bombing Kouryu's final attack.

It keeps getting longer

Let's be real, not many things are as hard and complex than pressing buttons in an often unclear sequence according to your carefully planned route for 20-40 minutes until you perform skillfully as expected in a single run.

But the hardest part is coming to terms that being good at shmups requires more than many other games, and not finding it extremely daunting at the same time.
If you wish to dedicate most of your life to that in order to get your clears and high scores then I feel proud of you!

The first thing you do is find your reason why. Why are you playing this game? Why do you want to 1cc? There's your answer. There are some games I refuse to credit feed or use save states on because I want to beat them the way I played when I was a kid in the 80s. Obviously that's the slowest way to beat most of these games. If you just want a lot of 1ccs, then practice with save states. Credit feeding is too slow. Though it's probably quicker to learn how to cheat and just fake videos and screen shots to get praise from online strangers that don't actually give a shit.

Yes, Hamster has their own proprietary emulator (probably a fork of mame they took for their own). A handful of releases are superior to emulating on mame but the one savestate "feature" can be annoying.

I just got a used PC and an old AMD GPU and I want to dedicate them to emulating Arcade games with a CRT, but I'm kinda lost on what to use and how to use it. I've seen that people build arcade cabinets using MAME, but I've also seen Shmup fans using Arcade64, while others recommend stuff like FBNeo for fighting games. Should I get each emulator and dedicate each one to a different genre? Or is there one that works for everything?
And on another note, I want it to hopefully look authentic to the original (thus the CRT), but I've seen some games running at wild refresh rates like 57.550645 Hz (Dangun Feveron). Is the super specific refresh rate actually important for the game to function correctly? and will the emulator actually handle this frequency properly?
Finally, is there a wiki or list that documents settings for arcade games? I got a romset from Archive, but it's like 500 games in .zip files and you pretty much have to guess which is which, and then hope it works. A lot of them won't even open.
