Other way around, the melee community chose competitive only just like the fgc did with S0, they ruined the online scene by forgoing anything that isn't a 1v1 or tournament 2v2. They sucked the fun out of the online scene leaving only the sweatiest left and those people only play ranked and solos.

Melee was a party game, the competitive scene for it was not. They removed all party aspects to curate the sweatiest meta heavy experience where a lot of the roster is only getting played by people who will die on the hill that they are their main. Don't be disingenuous as to what melee is and what Smash actually is.

No, melee chose fun and rivals chose competition. That is why when melee players complained about edgeguarding either being nonexistent or being far too strict you told us all to just get gud. You never thought once to consider maybe every edgeguard taking 24 perfect interactions maybe, just MAYBE won't be fun for the average player. Melee edgeguarding is fun and rivals 2 edgeguarding is fucking boring. You refuse to admit melee did something correct that your game didn't, and that level of pride is why this game will fail. Your devs have already proven they can't succeed without blatantly copying melee, so refusing to do just that at this point is letting your game fail. Melee already got so many things wrong, let go of your pride and copy more aspects of melee so this game can actually be fun and therefore succeed. Remember, this is about prioritizing fun over competitiveness while still having a good level of both. That is why melee succeeded for 20 years. Because it was fun and just difficult enough to keep people interested for decades.

The devs need to take a step back and watch Sakurai's videos. You can't just release a game that isn't fun for casuals and expect it to stick. Games don't work like that.

I am right. Another thing is playstyles. The current best playstyle to utilize if you want to win is playing in the most uninteractive way possible. In a good fighting game the better player always wins. In this game whoever plays the lamest will win and that is driving a lot of people away. No one wants to play this game if their preferred playstyle isn't good enough to win. The only reason you don't see it much at a high level in tournaments because there must be some gentlemens agreement to not play that way to keep tournaments interesting. If all playstyles aren't equal then the game is poorly designed. This playstyle is most prevalent in 800-1150 elo which is where most players are anyways which is why so many people are quitting the game everyday. If the devs aren't going to tweak this game to make every playstyle equal the game is will die

Anon you fail to grasp that the casuals can't fight sweats and that's all the online scene is over half the time even out of ranked. FFA is dead because the moment one person gets salty and leaves there is no more match, same with 2v2, and these modes died because the competitive scene barely ever played them to begin with. The casuals have no where to go when half the player base refuses to engage with any of the casual modes leaving them unplayable.

The game didn't do anything wrong here outside of not having much more casual content to offer past arcade and what amounts to an amibo fight mode. The competitive scene killed this just like it killed S0 bay refusing to just play for actual fun

I didn't know anything about competitive melee until 2018 so prior to that whenever I played melee with friends or family we were always just mashing buttons at each other. So there was no getting mad at me because I was too good

See you don't see to get that the numbers are at the stable portion this always ends up at, that and the road map and everything else have been long since funded from the start. Off brand has little to do with the actual future of the content for the game as all of that was already paid for

I disagree. Some people are waiting for game to get good and decide on what mechanics it wants to have to be fun. Some people are interested in SP and casual stuff only. Some people quit after getting rekt early and are waiting for tutorials. Workshop(?) update could also bring new people if there's interesting bing bing wahoo characters to battle against Ronald MCDonald.
If you look at the stats, the game is constantly around #400 top sellers. That's quite good statistic imo.

Was the Rivals release date delayed?

I wonder if Absa was supposed to be the "Fall" character released in 2024 (halloween, goat, baphomet), but then they decided not to release Absa because releasing a brand new character right after release is kinda stupid, and then the timing "forced" them to release a more thematic character for the season.

I also wonder if this means that Absa wont release until Fall of 2025.

she hasn't, all of the cast, new and old got new work in pfps to begin with. The art as you could guess is for pfps, ya know those things that contain EVERYONE to date, playable or not. And even now it's in the shop as an option: doesn't means she was any closer to release: hell they have nearly the same art count in that pfp library, and some of those are new and not recycled from creatures emotes.

Art doesn't indicate anything in this game, hasn't to date and won't for the future. For 2: let's go over what art in this game is for pfps, nothing more, and pfps don't mean anything. But by the logic you give those skins announced should have had a maypul skin since she was also in the cookie set. Not her, Zetter or Ranno got a new skin: the fact that your basis was art and not one of the cast in that art that are in game are getting anything should have probably told you something and clued you in on the fact art doesn't suddenly hit or foretell shit here. The seasons do as this game follows monthly and seasonal themes for the cast and what is coming during the month

You have the most thin version of evidence here and still won't answer my question: The art you claim as your evidence has 3 other characters: the very stream we watched had NONE of them get any of the costumes and the character to come was Elatus. Nothing on that image had anything to do with what went down meaning your evidence had literally even less weight.

Bradshaw is a late game Wrastor skin, probabaly one of many that are not released like american wrastor. Bradshaw is also pretty even with Wrastor in overall body so him getting a skin is more than likely since he's no real drastic changes like Ayala was.

Only reason he doesn't have one now is Wrastor doesn't have tons of skins as is, modeling Bradshaw over actual current new skins is probably as low as it was with Rival 1 where it ended up being a bonus when the game was 100% done.

Wrastor's slip stream just needs to not be a Falco laser. I KNOW I KNOW. It's hecking your game culture or whatever. Here's the thing. It's terrible game design. Nobody liked melee Falco laser so there was no reason for you to control c it and then power creep it. Just remove the fucking hitstun on it and make it vanilla where you can just activate your speed buff on command for all I fucking care. The stun on it is the most cancerous aspect.

is there a way to make a 0.0005% of a press on the L not count as pressing L? I used to complain here about accidental air dodges and I;ve figured out barely touching the L button would cause this due to how I use the controller. I predict Etalus will be what Kragg players pretend their character is, a gimmicky heavy that's easily beaten once you understand him. I think the universal system mechanics will be the polar opposite of what Etalus wants with shit like crouch canceling and the giant stages. Imagine he tries to use that slide for anything other than movement. That shit is gonna be floorfucked until 300% where it will finally knock down only to be amsah teched till 900%. zetterburns fireball and grab are genuinely overtuned. if you land a fireball ever no matter where your opponent is you can always get a grab off it which leads into his ovetuned throws. i just played against this guy whos entire gameplan was to hit you with a fireball and get a grab off it and do literally nothing else and won. you can parry the fireball pretty easily but if he plays passive enough and use his fireballs carefully you can easily beat people without ever using a different move because fireball into grab is that strong

Also they can use it at close range where trying to parry it is much more risky. Also they can use it as area denial and throw fireballs above your character preventing you from jumping or moving to a platform without getting hit. Also why the fuck does it have a close range melee hitbox on top of the fireball? I get "lol, he's PM wolf" but how about just not doing that and making your own character? I think they forgot that this game isn't Rivals 1 where we have a 1 frame god parry.

It depends on your character, but I feel like anyone with a projectile can out-camp him while parrying his fireballs, and it isn't too terrible... but it's still terrible. But yet, I think his fireball should be a slightly higher commitment because it's too easy for him to throw it out in relatively close range and be actionable regardless of what the opponent does.

Like it already fulfills the biggest criteria for a good projectile: being slow, so you can use to apply pressure in a dynamic way. It doesn't need to be so fucking safe on top of that.

Rivals 2. i can't even find the same fucking people to run it back against in ranked at 2AM because there's enough people playing the game.
this shit literally does not matter. all that matters is whether or not you can play the video game IF you like it. if you expend any caloric energy thinking about this for longer than the time it took to write this post, you should consider either suicide or a extended stay somewhere where you can't do anything but feel the sun on your skin and the grass under your feet.

Edgeguarding will never be patched in because the Rivals devs are extremely anal about your win conditions. The idea of hitting someone 3 times off stage and then rolling up from ledge makes them seethe with anger. They want you to Reverse fair into sweet spot bair with Orcane at 80+%, they want you to do tipper fair (1) at 80+% into level 2 tipper neutral b with Clairen, they want you to do triple fair at 80+% as Zetter, etc etc. If you don't do those flowcharts to get kills off stage you're venturing off the plantation and that's a giant no no. This is why a game like melee mogs this kuso. You just do whatever the fuck you want and get kills and aren't at the mercy of super self conscious devs that want you to act out the pre-planned scripts they wrote for you.

i think the core gameplay of rivals 2 is good, but it's the same shit: the roster is remarkably balanced (i think orcane and clairen are the only characters who are under-represented), but the issues with the game are more universal and indirectly affect every character. that said, i'm not a doomer and i think people need to chill the fuck out. the game will get better, most likely.

Reminder that you can parry a few recoveries, Forsburn and Orcane's are good examples. Forsburn is extremely predictable given he doesn't have smoke or a clone out, worth noting his upb doesn't have a hitbox if he teleports into smoke though. And Orcane's sideb is pretty slow and predictable too and it's common for them to do rising nair or bairs after a walljump

I don't mind the gimmicks unless there's no counterplay, or the counterplay feels bad to execute. Against Clairen, there's literally nothing you can do to stop her from benefiting from her gimmick. Against Zetterburn, your only option is to play like a pussy and disengage as soon as you're on fire (Which you will be), otherwise you just eat an empowered ustrong out of half of his moves or a tech chase and die. In contrast, I don't mind Ranno's, Fleet's, or Kragg's gimmicks at all. Coincidentally, all of them are dealt with in the same way: just hit them / the thing.

Clairen's "gimmick" is unironically the most honest in the game because it doesn't interfere with the game and is just fun for the Clairen main. The shit characters like Kragg do is the polar opposite where it completely ruins neutral and mind games for the defender.

i feel like the broader issue with a lot of MUs is that people will get punished for being retarded, and their response is to slow down their gameplay and over-rely on their gimmick. kraggs who stop approaching and start spamming rock / rock shards / down B, maypuls who just run away when dash attack gets shielded once, clairen's entire fucking game plan.

zetter was fine in the previous patch. all they did was make him fucking broken because melee players wouldnt stop crying about their character not being the best in the game. this patch is literally "what if melee fox but you dont have to l cancel and also all of his tech is easy now". they did NOT need to make the braindead mash character any better than he already was.
