Even support gems are soulless in this game. They have no levels or depth. You just slot in your 25-50% more damage and be happy. They had to dumb it down as much as possible for the normie D3/D4 crowd. Quality is boring as fuck too.

Chain crossbow unique and basic shot. Start with chain support and drop it once you need more damage.

Buy rare gloves with attack speed and flat damage for low level. Buy those chaos damage rings. Buy other leveling uniques.

Can use some fancier setup for single target if you want to kill bosses really fast but it's really not necessary until act 2.

Probably swap to a rare crossbow in act 2.

Yes, thats the entire premise of PoE
Shadow was an assassin (not an anime assassin, like a cold blooded for hire murderer for the rich upper class)
The ranger was a poacher who kept killing farm animals and encroaching on peoples land
Duelist was disrespected and he just killed him
Marauder is a Karui who repeatedly genocide entire races by poisoning water or using cowardly tactics. They are also culturally inclined to blind rages.
Templar was a defector to the church and decided to question his faith. The most normal one out of the bunch.
Witch is an arsonist.
Scion is a maneater that cheated on her husband, then tried to blame him for it.

In poe1 essentially these people aren't even that bad because the land was already tainted by corruption and chaos.
In poe2 the theme is more about normal people being corrupted to do bad and rely on bad actors.
Doryani has an entire temple with rivers of blood and human sacrifice, but he's our only shot.

The best showcase is the Warrior, who is just a good guy constantly grunting about "killing more, when will this end", but by the time you're in act3 he's just a roid rage.

Yeah damage is pretty much the way for leveling since you wanna clear everything as fast as possible.

I wanted to have a plan for endgame but honestly I don't know how to go about it. I was thinking of doing picrel but Ancient Aegis 60% increase probably doesn't apply to it. Still it is a huge chunk of life. Like say you get an 800 ES chest. Could possibly do triple life Grand Spectrum to go all in on life stacking. Would be pretty funny to slap a Veil of the Night on there but capping res should be better.

I don't wanna just fall back on ES stacking but I worry that's gonna be the way.

Unpopular Opinion: Str, Dex, and Int should only come from the tree. They shouldn't be on gear at all.
An even better system would be to remove all travel nodes on the tree, and every level you get a passive point for the tree and an attribute point to spend on +5 for any of those 3.

These 2 complaints are mutually exclusive. For a broad selection of fun and strong builds to exist, the game inherently needs to be made easier.
If you want build variety (the literally most important aspect of an arpg, not difficulty) the game needs to be easier. There is no way around this.

My argument isn't the picking stuff off of the floor but rather being forced into an ascendancy specific gimmick.
If you like the theme but hate this specific gimmick playstyle, you're forced into it.
I don't think that's a good thing in a game around builds regardless of whether you enjoy it or not.

Attack leech doesn't apply to spells but if you used a 100% elemental attack yeah it would gain 10% as phys that could leech if you have physical attack damage leeched as life from something.

im gonna be honest this whole sequence happened so fast, i was so zoomed out, and that whole boss fight was such a blur, that i couldnt even tell what happened until it was over

i kept losing her during the 1st stage because her and the boss are both the same dark grey color as the rest of the level, as are his little spires. the visual clarity on that fight was pretty bad

They could've made the Life Remnants + spell leech a branch of its own instead of making Life Remnants mandatory. Lock spell leech behind it but don't force you to go that way. It would've opened up some options on how to build Blood Mage.

Mf rarity in poe1 does fuck all, it gives you more uniques and a little bit of extra loot in the form of rarity archnem conversion mods but thats it.

so it's a 2H weapon thing where you set up a single really bit hit on an armour-broken target on jagged ground which then bleeds and possibly burns for the full duration.
I mean I don't know all the details but I've seen streamers do it.

You'll understand soon how awful blood magic is. I'm not even playing a mana build and over half of my passive nodes are dedicated to mana regen and I still have problems with level 20 skills while running inspiration for -40% mana costs. Scaling is just through the roof in this game, I can't imagine having to also find a way to keep my health pool up while having a half-decent build.

I did and DPS is still shit. I played chonk chaos spellcaster build and added a support gem with 40% DPS increase for 10 sec cooldown to ED. Hexblast DPS was 2700 while ED was 650 on hit and something like 800 from DoT. It was on Act 2 cruel, maybe I could scale it better but I dropped chonk.

But nothing with chaos deals good enough single target damage.
The totem is retarded and spews out a gorillion projectiles the more enemies there are, but on single target its like 2dps.

Blasphemy with hexblast is nice, but at that point you're not doing anything unique. Pretty much just autoattacking like a melee.

The benefit of ED is that you get stacks of wither with the totem for 70% more damage, that you don't have to stand right next to the boss for blasphemy, that you can let the dot tick while focusing on dodging attacks, that you can use despair itself for more effect and more chaos pen, and that it costs half the mana when hexblast costs half YOUR mana pool. I've played with hexblast and it feels like dogshit.

problem with Decay support on curses is that it's a flat chaos dot that doesn't scale with spell damage.
At most you're going to get ~200% increased chaos damage from the tree if you pick every chaos node on it.
It also doesn't scale with gem levels so it's stuck being 60% of your int at all times
Also doesn't scale with mana besides curses having a high mana cost

You also can't put it on blasphemy support and curses applied through curse spread don't also apply decay

Chaos dot in it's current itteration is just simply not good.
No supports for it
No uniques to make it good
No multiplicative scaling
No flat damage over time multipliers/magnitudes

The only reason why ignite and bleed works is because HotG exists and as long as it exists they will always be balanced around it existing so they will never be good unless they reintroduce crimson dance.

They could 2x the damage on all chaos dots in the game and it still wouldn't be good.

You don't need to direct cast despair. Hexblast is decent only with blasphemy so you can spam hexblast with high casting speed. Otherwise yes, the only purpose for ED is to trigger wither stacks from totem.

Totem get killed almost instantly in any noticeable boss fight and doesn't even last that long too. weapon increases are local (and for the poe1 vets that haven't noticed yet: so is increased elemental damage with attacks)

Minions have way too big collisions and the doorways are too tight for some reason. A bunch of places that look like should be walkable aren't. I'm assuming it's like a combination of how they define the walkable space with some buffer around the edges and entity collision sizes being too big.

In poe2 the increases are not stacked with conversions
In poe1 if you had 100 base physical damage with 100% converted to lightning, both % increased physical and % increased lightning would apply.

This is not the case in poe2
If you have something that hits for 100 physical and 50% is converted to lightning and you have 10% increased physical damage it will become
>55 physical damage + 50 lightning damage

Extra damage also works oddly. it's essentially a flat additive bonus ontop of damage
so lets say you have 100 phys converted 50% to fire for the sake of ignites and have 20% of physical as extra fire it would be
>50 base physical
>50 base fire
>10 extra fire
>110 total damage
>use 60 damage "hit" to base ignite off of (which is 15% out of my head? of damage of the hit per second for 4 seconds.)
>9 fire dmg / second for 4 seconds ignite

A side node, I haven't done much testing myself with this, but reduced resistances seem to be massive for ailments, specifically ignite as you double dip with them.
Since the ignite is now based off of the final hit on the target lets say fireball has a base 100 fire damage against a target with 50% resistance to fire
>100 * 0.5
>50, 7.5 dps ignite
a 100 dmg hit results in 3,75 dps ignite.

Now if you apply fire exposure + flammability for roughly -60% fire res you'll do
>100 * 1.1
>110, 16.5 dps ignite
the fireball will hit for 110 with a 18,15 dps ignite.

Note that dot damage cannot ignore or penetrate elemental resistances, so if you have a fireball with 30% fire penetration, it will increase the hit, but the ignite portion will be significantly lower than expected.

All I wanted to do was play a pure cold Monk but there's literally no reason not to use Charged Staff because it simply doubles my bell damage and lets me shock things, and the ice wave skill is dogshit because it breaks my freeze whereas storm wave simply works

Is this game more elemental damage heavy? In PoE1 the scary part was big phys hits and if you're scaling armor you wouldn't wanna give that up for more life against elemental damage. With Cloak of Flame I could see the argument but using that also heavily eats into your armor scaling.

A change with the way the map is loaded I think
They mentioned in one of the earlier showcases of poe2 (when it was still going to be 1 game 2 campaigns) that the act maps themselves will shuffle around as well but only visually per league.
I think it's a side effect from that where it has to load the right map from the servers
Same for the atlas tree which is unique per player. It's probably a lot of damage to load compared to a hard-coded set 115-150 maps layout of poe1.

The only problems with Sanctum were the bugs with dots and honor damage and that certain afflictions weren't minor at all and would brick your run, like having no ES isn't something that should exist. The only problems with ultimatum were the crashes, chimera boss, and thoughtless interaction between things like stormcaller runes and the soul gem event. Stormcaller runes in general were bad design not being able to intentionally trigger them and get out, but they've fixed that at least. I just wish they would maintain the difficulty while only fixing the design philosophy issues.

I am 30/30 atlas passive points but when I look at some of the content on youtube there are so many maps I have not once encountered.
For me it's the same 3-4 maps (crypt, auguary, savannah, steaming craters or something) over and over again.
I tried to look around a bit on my atlas but it's the same 4-5 map pool.
Afterwards I decided to go diagonally into a single direction for 20~ ish maps and it's still the same maps without seeing a single new one.

Is there a way I can reset my atlas map? I think the seed or the generation fucked up somehow.
I've also not seen a single outpost or unique map and I've done I think more than 500 maps in total by now.

Respecing for free is lame. You would just respec a spec tailor made for every hard boss or map, and if you dont do that then you are stupid. Anytime you are stupid for not doing something that is lame then that is bad game design.
Instead you will have a challenge come up and say "wow my spec isnt that great at X, but maybe if i change my strategy a bit it can work". and it forces you to play the game in more interesting ways. Respeccing on the other hand, is actual tedium, whether it is free or not.

The clear loser ascendancies right now are acolyte, chronomancer and blood mage. Witch Hunter and Warbringer get a special mention because Witch Hunter is just better than those three but only really has down to go unlike the others, while Warbringer was decent but just got hit so hard by the nerf bat and still has a fucking broken node that doesn't work so you're liable to be playing an ascendancy that doesn't actually do anything.

I dunno what they've done since that hotfix, but the lag is insane. Most of each map I slow down to an absolute crawl then eventually it all speeds back up to catch up. A lot of people have been getting the same and apparently it's a network issue on GGG's end (hence how your FPS would be fine, but the game LOOKS like it's a 5 FPS slideshow, then it all speeds up to catch up) like shitty lockstep system or so.

So I never played games that have leagues before. I am assuming PoE 2 is going work the same. What's broken on warbringer? Negative armor works fine.
Warbringer shout build is really good. Totems is also really good. You can get like +14 levels dual wielding 2 handers for your totems and it snapshots and their damage is nutty.
Armor break into sunder / hotg is also super strong and one shots all but the strongest bosses.
Really can't go wrong with warbringer.

You're not missing something. The ascendancy is half-baked. It's not terrible or anything but it just brings very little to the table even in the context of PoE2 ascendancies. Concentration would be good if it didn't vanish against every boss in the game during their transitions. Decimating and culling are available for access through other convenient sources. Sorcery ward is fine but it requires a buy-in. Weapon passive points are terrible in the current version of the game.

The explosion is pretty sick as you're mapping but explosions on your ascendancy has always been a very iffy purchase.

Leech on blood mage is a bait, as a blood mage most of the time you have way more than your base HP, you will have some other defensive option like the MoM node or energy shield which means the leech is nearly useless.
And if you do have some life problems those can be fixed with some life regen nodes.
