Yeah, you're going to die A LOT on your first character since you don't know the boss mechanics. After my 4th character I was able to get to Act 3 without dying at least once. You'll learn them the more you die.

Armor is terrible though. It only protects against one kind of hit (unless you're some warbringer with a very specialized build), and you'll still get one-shot by many physical attacks anyway.

98% of players wont even get 6 because they quit a looong time before they get to maps. Even 4 points is a minority of the playerbase because most quit after normal difficulty and dont bother trying to do it in ultimatum. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if you told me that less than 50% of the people with 10+ hours in the game will even get 2 ascendancy points.
The number for 8 ascendancy points is probably closer to 0.1% or even lower

poe2 is paint by numbers, you pick the gems that go with your skill and you path straight out from you start to the nodes that say "effects your skill". You don't even have to worry about gearing, defensive strategies, etc. it's all given to you as a result of the dilution of the passive tree and avenues of power other than flat hp and armor on your gear.

its not, mobs attack so slow tha you can just dodge their attacks
i would recommend switching to ice strike though, the dual ice + lightning setup is way better than just lightning. ice strike is excellent for sanctum in particular because it slows + freezes mobs so they cant hit you
also gathering storm is super good in sanctum, the monsters attack so slow that you can hit them with the full charge before they have a chance to fire a projectile which would hit you during the dash. and then it just fucking oneshots them and they die like a little bitch.

they dont just damage you, its always after a delay. you should have storm wave as a backup but you can kill 95% of rares (and trash ofc) with melee attacks without getting hit
i did a decent amount of sanctum and with a bit of practice i found it very easy to do the first 3 floors near hitless. only the 4th floor is gay because there is 1 specific room (crystals) but thats a problem for another day for him

2 classes share the same base attribute type. There are 6 slots total on the gallows.
You literally just toggle between them on the gallows.
The Witch and Sorc are one such pairing, but because the Templar/Druid are not in yet, they temporarily put the Sorc in the Str/Int slot where the Druid/Templar would on the gallows for aesthetics.

It will look like this when all the classes are released.

you simply join the TFT discord and pay someone 4ex for the third trial and 25ex for the 4th trial

Alteration and augmentation are fine to spam whenever as long as you are disenchanting most of your blue drops. Regals are a similar case but you only slam them on promising blues. Exalted orbs you are best off just trading for raw power spikes when you need to, but this only happens towards the ends of acts when you haven't found a dps upgrade in a long time. It's reasonable to keep at least 5 exalted reserved for this purpose through the end of act 3

They didn't go far enough and should have hit regen and resistances hard
There is clearly a design problem when you can face tank things 95% of the time without your life bar moving and then that 5% of the time something oneshots you from full life. Player damage evasion and health/es regeneration is so high that in almost all cases you are rewarded for playing like you don't care if you get hit. Then to try and provide any kind of challenge in the later game enemy damage has to be absurdly high, because if it isn't absurdly high nobody would care at all, you can heal full health instantly WHILE attacking so enemies literally need to oneshot you or there's no threat

If player health/es recovery and evasion were less absurd then enemy damage could be much lower while still threatening you with attrition over a period of 5-10 seconds instead of incoming damage being Nothing>Nothing>Nothing>100%to0%
If small accumulated damage mattered then players would be rewarded for trying to hit things safely without trading all the time, and you would play more like this, but you don't because there is no reason for me to avoid damage here so it's faster to face tank

My best guess is that it's a way to clearly separate Agility melee from Agility ranged, because Agility melee doesn't need to build Accuracy so they take other stats instead. The lack of Accuracy then prevents Agility melee from getting full access to ranged bow damage with no tradeof

When you get to Cruel, you kill Balbala and it doesn't drop the quest version of the coin, thus it won't progress the quest "Ascent to Power" which means you can't get those 2 ascendancy points. Since a few days ago the game just crashes. Either when loading into a map or when tabbing out. Any anons having the same issues and can you solve them? My rig is most likely not the issue, it seems like a problem with the game itself. For example, it crashes even when changing upscale methods.

LA builds can get really mana hungry, especially if you play with cast on shock ball lightning etc. That's why people use the thief's torment ring for mana gain on attack. The mental toughness cluster on the passive tree helps a bit but that's just how it is.

Explosive shot with scatter is more effective than anything else (except glacial bolt+frag shot on big enemies)
There just doesn't seem to be anything practical about all these shitty other moves you wait to higher level for like plasma bolt or storm siege when you can just shit out massive 744% attack aoe that only take two or three shots to kill every mob.
Rapid shot gets honorable mention though.

If you like poe1 - yes, as you can use the 30 points for your poe1 stuff anyway. If you never played it... I really don't know. I'm a poe1 guy and don't like it, but a lot of (new) people like it. I don't regret the 30€ but some of my friends do. Hard to tell, only one way to find out.

Shield skills are shit. You can gem resonating to double your effective stun threshold if you want, but that's about it. The armor break value is too low for it to matter otherwise

I'm not sure you can, it's kinda all over the place with some weird design choices.
Like I suppose you could make embers an old "On kill/% on hitting a unique" buff and massively reduce what you get from it.
Darkness just seems weird. They were clearly going with ward but it doesn't seem to work. At the very least I'd remove the +5 per level requirement, no one wants to feel like they NEED to grind to level 100 to make something work. Maybe allow you to use it in place of spirit (maybe it already can be, no idea).
The mana leech thing seems like a bit of a tax but I get why it's there. The ES leech node is just about getting leech balancing right, though it'd be nice if it weren't just a notable from poe1.

I guess that gemling's power level and usefulness will change tremendously when all the other classes and their gems are added in. He might even become the most effective class / ascendancy but probably high budget too. Gotta remember that it's early access and not the full game.

Is there any build variety with these games or do people just throw up some build they found online because actual creativity with a class or whatever just makes you play worse? I only ever played poe1 until I had to look at the skill tree so make that of what you will.

I found the Merc quadrant pretty diverse in itself though. There's plenty of projectile, dodge, regen, meele, physical, dual wield, etc. But maybe it's more restrictive on other classes.

there's plenty of good nodes but you're disincentivized from going across the tree and doing anything wild. the opportunity cost of going elsewhere is heavy because you could always just get more stuff at the start that boosts you. this is bad for build variety.

the worst part is that once you give up and just resign yourself to sticking with your class' area you will start to run into stat requirement hurdles because you aren't getting enough travel nodes.

Don't get me wrong, I'm getting some powerful things from it like access to every support gem, access to skeletons to hold enemies in place for my AOE, duplicate supports when most of his shit needs the same few gems. I'm sure when there is a melee class weapon better suited to him those slots will be more valuable... right now I got hammer of gods and ancestral totem with sunder, but I'm honestly kind of thinking I might just go back to ripwire balista.

Warmonger's ascendancy skill gives Warcry 0 cooldown, so it's a spammable skill. Give it Corrupting Cry and it gives a stacking DoT based on your strength. So you just stack a shit ton of strength. It ups your damage and your survivability. Get Blood Magic so you don't worry about mana and get life regen too.
It's so fucking broken.
Warcry also pops corpses so no more "Explodes nearby corpses" modifier for enemies. And it has a slight knockback so you will never get surrounded.

Yeah, he's super fun to theorize and play with because he's basically the only character who still plays like a PoE1 character who easily has access to everything. Some good streamers are finally trying different stuff, the rest are rolling the same things. I have found some of my own I haven't seen anyone else mention. It just takes time, reading, and not just doing exactly what the streamers say. Case and point are the cast on nerfs. Everyone was complaining like it was the end of the world and comet was then useless etc when it couldn't be further from the truth. Everyone just repeats everyone else ad infinitum without thought, just like every other subject. There's lots of variety already but also remember not everything is in game yet or even in it's final version. Just play around with what sounds fun to you, not some faggot streamer.
