Maybe other people know better but I feel like all the merc shots need a buff. The only thing carrying me so far is galvanic shots but I didn't want to be a lightning spammer. I thought armor piercing with armour explosion and high velocity might work but its not that good for me anyway. And wtf is that ice shard shit that puts ice on the ground, its completly useless.

That would certainly work but the crossbow rain skills feel undertuned.

It's really annoying that nades can't consistently be thrown over the crystals. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. If you could do that consistently that would be a nice setup.

I was wondering if the shots were balanced including the offhand items that are missing. That would explain why they feel so lacking but I guess they would also buff nades which are fine.

Ice shard thing does crazy amounts of freeze buildup but the setup for the shards doesn't function in a game like this.

Ice Crystals can be blown up with Frag rounds but it feels inconsistent and doesn't do enough damage to be worth the hassle and time of swapping to a different shot type. Currently the delay between changing shots somewhat makes it unviable to play more than one shot type.

Armor Break explosion support is only 100% attack which is nothing.

TLDR All the gimmicks in the shots have really poor payouts.

an "alpha" is a state in which only the most basic assets of a software product are functional/playable. probably the only game in recent years that's called itself an alpha and actually been correct is Deadlock since it doesn't even have basic things like a lighting system yet and most of the assets are placeholder
no matter what video game marketers have tried to sell you in recent years there is no such thing as a "pre-alpha" - such a thing is by definition not playable or functional
beta is the correct term for this because the bulk of the game's systems (e.g., visuals, movement, classes, stats, chat) are implemented even though the game is blatantly unfinished

Fucking finally. Took 1 regal and 5 exalties on top of martial runes to get 50+% lightning resist.
Funny how both him and wolf are trivial if you stack lightning and cold resists accordingly.
Btw, what resist do you need to kill Act3 final boss?

They REALLY gotta fix that thing where a mob pushes you to the edge of the fucking screen when you are in the middle of an animation like Rolling Slam. Disable mobs pushing you completely, that stuff does not belong in an ARPG.
Imagine playing and suddenly your character is barely even on the screen anymore because of those dung beetles pushed you off.

the issue is my mana regen is exactly 251.1, and if I go grab several nodes in my tree for "ES recharge rate", it doesn't change and it's still at 251.1. I swear in poe1, more ES recharge while having EB meant more mana regen, but I might be misremembering

This is actually fucking bad. I crafted every single boot base that dropped in the game, io check the vendors every level and the movespeed boots never drop.

I am a massive fucking retard : What is the point of weapon skill specialisation points? They affect only one weapon and not the other. But they're not additionnal points so if you want to go let's say dual element sorc you still need to grind the raw levels to activate the nodes. So what is the fucking point of that feature when you can just leave it as regular skill points and have it affect both your weapons?

Quality gameplay? Dynamic boss fights?

POE 1 has exactly 2 good bosses in it. The freeze guy on an island, but at that point most characters don't even have their core skill and it's a shitfest, and then the Jailer at the end of Act 1.

After that point the players start face rolling the game like it's Vampire Survivers and never stop. The fact that the """"Pinnacle""" bosses in POE 1 are literally a minigame proves that even GGG themselves understand that the gameplay of their game is fundamentally broke

POE 1 fundamentally is a solved numbers game. Hardcore is even more so, not less. You googled and POBed the shit out your build, you know exactly what it takes to be immortal, you grind until you get it.

In fact your aversion of death denies you any risk and reward gratification as well, since dying once is completely unacceptable you are never going to take a difficult fight and experience the catharsis of beating it by the skin of your teeth, you are going to grind and optimise everything until the entire game is trivial.

The game is unironically so easy that being 2-3 levels over and having any idea what resistances / passives are will get you to read maps with a homebrew shit build. The game was never hard we know this. The only thing that can make it hard is adding shitloads of AoE to a mobile boss and we see how cancer that is in 2.

I struggled with some bosses in POE 2 then i realized they are simply overturned to punish the range.

As soon as I closed the gap rather than trying to instinctively space them all of their bullshit disappeared.

It's literally Dark Souls all over again, hug the bosses' ass and 90% of the time you are safe.

Punishing range is a good design decision BTW, if you don't do it the range characters are going to have a fundamental advantage over the melee cucks who take a higher risk for no reward.

POE 2 is an amazing game already, the economy and balance needs a few tweaks, obviously, but in general I am in awe of that they are cooking. I trust the vision now.

Ruthless didn't work in POE 1 because the entire game was designed ground up for nearly unlimited player power. Taking the power away while the difficulty assumes you have all resistances at 90 and 100% suppression simply breaks the game to death.

But POE 2 is a game designed for ruthless from the ground up and it mostly works, needs a few minor tweaks and it's going to be a blast. Now i see it too, I share The Vision.

There's no point in playing a solved game. It's already beaten.

You know Kerbal Space Program or Factorio? I remember the early days when the community didn't even know if going for an orbital Gagarin's flight was possible or not. I was literally calculating the orbital velocity myself with my graphing calculator and my highschool Physics notebook.

But now I know everything about that game, i could play it in my head. A flight to Laythe and back? Sure I know exactly what it takes, I know exactly how to make a rocket for that, so there's no point for me to do it. The entire game is just watching things happen as planned

And for the same reason I don't see a point in playing POE 1. It's just a shopping list of defense layers.

I cannot express how much I enjoy poe2. I learned the game last year when there was all the shilling, and it was fun but so cumbersome. I started this game and went raw for 18 hours without hitting a wall. I even took all but 2 classes to the first boss just to check the playstyles out. Im excited to see more of how they optimized the other events to need less currency. I get the feeling i could have just done the ascension dungeon a few times and somehow profited or made my account better with more relics in teh stash there.

Yes. This is an encylopedia / shopping list game. diablo3 was good because you could spend 80 hours doing all y our shopping and then another 200 on the same character optimizing it. While getting more gear to do another class. It's the perfect loop when you're in the mood.

The let you try the Faustus exchange, and made it abundantly clear that it's a one time thing only, and it's never coming back.

When the Settlers league ends you will be back to trading the scarabs and anointing oils 1 by 1 on the website again and dealing with the AFK sellers

I know that I can never go back to playing POE 1 again.
And they know it too. Faustus was the ice breaker, if you want asynchronous trade again you will crawl back to POE 2 and appreciate the vision.

And GGG can always force you to leave by adding more little annoying things and making the new leagues worse. They won't have to kick you out of the door, they can make it so that YOU chose to leave POE 1.

Yeah it seemed like it when I ran them. They look cool though but I kept wasting them with my spikes.

originally one of the teased huntress ascendancy classes had some but idk if that's still happening

I think we'll see some animal themed minions on the druid and some holy warrior sentinel type minions on the templar

Given the reaction to PoE2, I think they'll be very comfortable overlapping content releases for Path of Exile 2. Very different audiences. Also I don't think next PoE1 league is going to be that popular after PoE2's release.

You can get the quad at 120 which is the value of 4 tabs at 30 per tab, but 6x for 165 comes out to 27.5 points per tab.

You can do the first trial as many times as you want, but probably not going to finish it at 22.
The last boss is a fucking bitch as melee, there's a hundred no-no-zones in the arena and all the attacks the boss does are unblockable too.
Unless you have some sort of totem or a warcry build going on so you can attack from range.

Yes.
Some broken builds are still trivializing the game, but when they are getting nerfed every white pack of mobs is going to be an exciting boss fight while a rare yellow mob can be an absolut OH SHIT OH FUCK moment.
There's more than one way of making the game exciting as long as the gameplay mechanics (dodge roll and stagger bars) facilitate having fun.

Zooming/blasting is unironically a mistake and POE 2 is here to fix it. The only fun parts of POE 1 are Act 1 bosses and Vaal Oversoul if your build isn't working correctly yet. When you get your shit you become immortal and faceroll through the infinite unengaging tedium. POE 2 is working to fix that.

Bad gear makes it almost impossible to beat because you just can't survive in the fight for too long. I think most people who are struggling with the game it's a gear issue. Mechanically the game is not that hard when you kill bosses fast enough that you can afford to take some damage. When the fights drag out and you run out of flask charges due to bad gear you die.

Some will splinter off and go back to PoE1 but some PoE1 players who disliked ruthless because it was too punishing and too slow are enjoying this too much to leave. The inclusion of (good) WASD has really changed my perspective on this genre.
I genuinely don't think I could go back and play PoE 1 point to click ever again or any other isomeric ARPG which lacks good feeling WASD.

I really thought it would suck and would be hard pressing multiple different buttons at the same time, but its fine and I feel like I have so much more control over my character.

Get the cold unique crossbow, socket two cold runes in it and go to town with the cold shotgun shot. It wrecks the early game. Don't forget lv3 support that gives reload speed.

They were doing some backend stuff the other day and I managed to equip the Ring Skin which tracks your drops.
But it kept crashing the game and they disabled it after a few mins.

Noticed that maps have some new enemies that weren't in the campaign and these are not some League mechanic monsters either. These are Act 4-6 monsters added as a sneak peek in maps.

Also I like how they recorded voicelines for Expedition NPCs specifically for the Early Access Mapping story where it gets interrupted. Gwennen acknowledges that you're not your future self, you are your past self who has not yet met the Expedition crew because they are NPCs in Act 4 town.

And in poe2 you will spend 10 minutes walking around a mostly empty map, then walk to the other side once the last rares are revealed, and if you stop paying attention because of how boring it is, you will be one-shotted by random bullshit, lose the map, the progress and 15% of the level. It's a problem because first of all you can't see shit, I don't know whether they adjusted it or maybe you have different visual settings but when I played him i literally could not see the zombies, i didn't even know why I died.

And then it's possible to be too weak to to kill them before they crawl into your safety bubble and drop the burning ground in the only space you are allowed to be.

They definitely need to fix the visuals and maybe remove the burning ground.

The other Bullshit part is trial of chaos.
The monsters swarming you is a hard DPS check, if your character is too weak to dispatch them quickly you are going to be cornered and bodyblocked to death.

Shit like this encourages POB-ing and meta gaming. My Blood Mage was miserable as fuck and desperately needed a power spike, and then i'm given an absolute ball buster challenge.

Both stage 1 and stage 2 - literally just don't get hit, dodge his attacks, hit him back, he'll die eventually.

Doom of the desert tho - if you allow the zombies to drop the burning ground inside of the bubble - you are dead, there's nothing you can do about it.

And you can't fucking see them. Also the zombies are crawling on the floor so the bone storm is going right over their heads.

I'm enjoying PoE2 as a straight action game, but it is god awful at being an ARPG.
Hated playing sorceress but having quite a bit of fun as monk.
But it still feels like I'm playing a PS2 era action title (not a bad thing) and have a feeling that I'm going to drop it like a rock after the campaign since the itemization/build planing/etc is just boring even comparing to the 25 year old D2.

Going back to the drawing board for Blood mage. What does a blood mage do well?

So you can't play at range and be effective, but you're a spellcaster. That means you need short range, high damage spells that crit often. You get an extra bonus on top of spell damage for bone skills early on in the tree, so this makes some degree of sense to run, especially because elementals early on are trash. You can path over quickly to extra freeze buildup on the monk side. Does chaos DoT crit? I feel like building chaos blood mage isn't the play, though it may be up until ascendancy.

Dunno. Thoughts anyone? Anyone made a decent BM build?

That's why I picked that bit to clip. I'm not even close to being able to kill them before they crawl into the bubble, I'm relying on the ice wall ability on crossbow to block them off so I can survive through that phase. You can also use flash grenades to stun or spam escape shot IF the bubble goes against the wall. If you're not against the wall then escape shot will move you out into death

I read that the warrior is the act 1 blacksmith's son but then I went and read the lore blurb he has when you ask about fatherhood playing as some other class and he tells you that "his son is not from here" and that he found him on the shore and raised him. The time travel took me absolutely by surprise I did not expect it, Aggorat was absolutely fucking magnificent, what an eye candy.

The presentation in early acts of POE 1 was absolute dog shit.

The ONLY part of POE 1 that looked good was the empire and league mechanics like Heist, everything else was black, brown and shit.

I'm only act II but It seems pretty decent I use bone cage/detonate on mobs and bone storm on bosses. There's a supporter that gives your bone cage 50% crit because of pinned which makes it really good until you can get detonate. I don't understand why orbs work the way they do though. Having to walk over the mobs is such a pain and when it comes to bosses they're basically impossbble to pick up because if the boss doesn't move you can't really even see them.

This is kinda what I've been doing on my BM. It's not awful but it fails too often imo. I'm running frost wall by now to get my CC, but it also feels like it's doing tons of heavy lifting and my build is not supporting it, it's being carried by it.

For mob clear, CC then detonate dead with spell echo is absolutely the play. It does more than enough damage. Bone storm on bosses isn't bad either.

My thoughts right now are how to effectively use minions without pathing into them. My thoughts right now are to use them as sacrificial anodes for minion pact, detonate suicide bombs, and triggerable explosives with 1 arsonist in the pack. The trick will be having some minions with low enough life totals to reliably proc minion pact, which I think can be accomplished with Unearth. If not it'll have to be skeleton warriors and a weird balancing act of not upgrading them too much.

It's a workshop not a build yet. Wondering if I can respec and make it work or if I'm going to have to re-level.

This is true.
Act 1 is the perfect size for how slow the game is.

Looks like Act 2 was designed for a character with flame dash, and then they took it away.

Maybe they will bring it back later, who knows.

The fact that the only melee weapon right now is the hammers (the slowest) I think the early access is designed to give you a taste of the shit parts first, and then they are going to start introducing the better stuff.

It's like running the A/B testing, but starting with B.

my take is that the acts were designed in order, with ggg's imaginations running away with them more and more as they went on. act 3 is the one with the really bonkers fuckhuge zones. Utzaal (which has a mandatory farm for the sacrificial heart) and Drowned City are absolutely massive, they're like 2-3 act 1 zones. but once you know where you're going and have movespeed boots its easy to not notice.

Not that anon but so far I just press a button for ed that has the chaos freeze and chaining on it and then I press hexblast and pretty much whole pack of enemies disappears or at least freezes, mana intensive as fuck but should be fixable with gear

Not quite, the strongest scaling mod for poison is +phys% and that does nothing on a chaos base. I found a 98% inc phys chaos bow and I couldn't use it because it was worse than my last bow of the previous tier with like 30% phys.
Poison is chaos+phys btw.

Currency tab and one premium tab for trading.
Everything else is manageable. There isn't 50 different essences and 50 different splinters in the game yet.

And thank god there are no divination cards, those are annoying even with a tab.

The bosses are considerably more fun.
In PoE1 you either have enough sustain+defenses to not die or you just die with no real counter play.
In PoE2 you can realistically dodge most things that hit hard enough, you just need the damage to stop the kill from taking an hour, and fixing damage is easier/more fun than fixing defenses.
