Depends a bit on your build, but I would always go for the third bow in the pictures. That third bow is also likely worth regaling.
Attack builds scale a lot worse off of gem level than spells do, because attack gems also benefit heavily from the power of your weapon in a way spells don't. Pumping your weapon Phys damage is the best thing for any xbow build at the moment, so you would want that.
More phys damage mods > attack speed > gem level > the rest basically. I would not attempt to upgrade or swap to a crossbow that did not already have a better phys damage value than my current crossbow, unless the new bow had a huge attack speed roll on it.

Monk looks like a lot of fun with the light saber skill later on, but I'm at level 10 right now and the only real damage skill, the ice shards, only doing damage at the very end of it makes the gameplay just kind of tiresome.

also from one mercenary to another you should be warned that if you're playing shot-type builds (basically anything non-nade) you will likely end up swapping . The shot-types are generally REALLY bad, and even if built to be strong, are extraordinarily awkward and slow. Grenades are so, so much better than the shot types.
I recommend you play shot types until Cruel, then you swap to nades. The slower gameplay of the shot types unironically makes the campaign more immersive and engaging, but when you're just replaying what you've already played swap to nades so your damage and AOE both go up by 4-5x

What’s I’ve realised about this game is that it’s an IQ test. The designers decided to make a game that will attract a more intelligent crowd. They felt insulted by the bovine-minded imbeciles who enjoyed POE1 and decided to make a game for people they actually respect as human beings. I’m loving every tear and feel great that I passed the test and am a part of the target audience for this sensational game.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm just trying every ability as I get it to see what they do. I don't get the flash grenade one though. I've never seen any other abilities that can hurt yourself. It feels like the griefing potential in groups would be huge.

The narrative from the low-IQ shitters is already changing now that they have op build guides to follow. They will pretend it was never about the difficulty.
But never forget the whining that every class was bad and had no good builds. Never forget the claims of people spending more than 50% of the fights rolling. Never forget the shitters getting filtered by Geonor and all the Act II bosses. Never forget the people who couldn't grasp basic mechanics without them being spoonfed.
The game was never perfect but most of the legit criticism applied to endgame stuff which nearly no one had reached at the time.

the self-blind isn't that bad but Flash Grenade is a crazy good get-off-me tool. GREAT stun value, very low fuse time, huge AOE because it's also scaling off the same AOE modifiers you're stacking for your other nades. Also I believe nades don't need accuracy so the self-blind doesn't do much. It does reduce your own evasion, which I think is one of the reasons the top nademerc right now specs to convert all evasion to armor, though that could also be because the A/E hybrid nodes on the tree suck fucking cock

The only hard boss imo is Blackjaw and that's only if you don't realize you need to hug his balls.
Stuff like ultimatum and massive enemy packs are way harder than the boss fights.

Wrong. Witch and Sorc have different nodes on their tree. I imagine all the classes that share main stat will have different nodes in their start.
Right now the only one is Witch/Sorc as they're both pure INT.

You see, to make Chayula Monk work I COULD 6L my Vaulting Slam and use all of the powerful slam-oriented support gems to maximize its damage, plus invest heavily into daze, stun, poison, and leech to make use of the pure physical damage (because god knows the tree isnt dense enough to actually support pure phys), then all I have to do is use whirling strike to charge up my massive attack, empower it with chaos, and hope I crit.

Alternatively, I could have gone Lightning Monk and bought a unique that generates power charges to do the same amount of damage with Falling Thunder but with cool lightning effects.

It actually decreases your DPS in 90% of the cases.
Similar melee skill nodes only apply a 5% attack speed decrease - this one TRIPLES that detriment.
Crossbows have only 5% base critical chance in the first place and crit builds scale best with high attack speed.

The sentiment around the game is largely shifting towards the negative.
GGG is purposefully taking anything fun and removing it from the game.
The skill tree is a massive downgrade from PoE 1. Build differentiation and variety simply doesn’t exist.
There is no hope for PoE 2 to come close to the longevity of PoE 1. Nobody is going to want to replay this slog of a game every few months for a new league.
Time is ticking, changes need to be made soon or the damage will be irreversible.

It's not efficient to hunt down every single mob. You can always rerun a zone for more drops/experience if you need to, so don't waste time in zones with low monster density, don't waste time walking and not killing anything. The game is simply about maximizing monsters killed/hr, but not too many levels above or below your own or you are penalized.

You don't understand. Power shots doesn't specify bolts, simply crossbows. Grenades are CDR gated and don't benefit from attack speed so it's just 80% increased critical damage bonus for builds them or other builds that circumvent crossbow reloads

Ascendancy is what you actually want to look at. Starting position is also far more important now with the scion area and clusters gone. If you want to play something like bleed slam witch you're looking at like 50 points to find any wheel relevant on the tree.

what the fuck kind of supports do i put on merc basic crossbow shot? currently have lightning infusion(gain 25% extra lightning damage,but less 50% of other ele dmg),martial temp(25%more atk speed) and exploit weakness which feels fucking dogshit considering the opportunity cost

yes,i didn't spec into using lightning skills or grenades specifically but rather use fagmentation rounds,glacial shot,some gas grenades to break armour and the occasional flash nade and i couldn't kill him doing the epic comboes
meanwhile i was just walking back auto attacking and using gas grenade to break his armour and managed to beat him i know it was a dps check so other bosses are not like this but still basic shot deels a lot of damage against high priority targets

The Vertex is basically FREE stats on any warrior that can path down to Giant's Blood. It reduces the item requirements by 50% which is then tripled by Giant's Blood. Basically anyone can manage this. So by giving up your helmet slot for The Vertex, you make up for it with the shield stats. The Vertex stats are basically free and you now have passive block.

Don't believe in chaos dot posters. There isn't enough scaling available no matter what ascendancy you play and it's a ton of awkward buttons that feel like nothing even if you get it going. Your supports are awkward as all hell. Contagion is single target for some god awful reason so you're trying to tag the monster in a pack that your other DoTs are on.

Yes I'm playing one of those insta clear mercs, they're very strong. I don't think people realize how ridiculously ass that build feels to play right now, how non-functional most of the other crossbow skills are, and how retarded the mercenary ascendancies are in practice.

Mercenary DOES have one good build and it's legit good but that build is doing its absolute best to circumvent everything associated with the class. Merc is an incredible failure in design.

There is 100% going to be sweaty end game builds out there that exploit weapon swap mechanics to snapshot extremely powerful set ups into extremely powerful payoffs. I haven't put together a build like that yet since it's expensive but I've been exploring the mechanic and it seems like you can get some pretty crazy set ups.

PoE1 had a bunch of more multipliers, not just supports but like, defence and attack speed. All these things acted multiplicatively. It meant there was huge variance between builds. GGG has obviously wanted a significantly more limited window of build power. No tree life, less attack speed, difficult (impossible?) to do layered defence, support gems only have a couple more multipliers. Theoretically it means bosses can give a more specific experience but it also seems to mean there's a lot less power and build variety

Hard to know how viable it will be without additional weapons. There doesn't seem to be any purpose to using maces and qtr staves or any melee + bow combo. Weapon archetypes feel much more strict so i don't know how it'll work out in the end. You might get something like stun dudes with maces then daggers get some damage buff if you hit a stunned guy and you swap. Probably not worth it considering weapon swap speed

Because the GGG animators are retarded, the roll animation was animated back to the idle/standing position so everytime it ends your character has to enter the standing position and then start moving again

I haven't seen any practical set ups with multiple weapon types but changing between two weapons of the same type seems optimal in expensive set ups. The main gate to using weapon swap right now is really just that the cost is very high.

My mercenary was running two crossbows for awhile, one took the surround nodes and grenades and the other took the boss killing nodes and just threw the skill points saved onto other random shit since I couldn't come up with a better use for the extras. Bolts actually load separately by crossbow but I didn't have multiple bolts worth using so I didn't engage that. At any rate, the very simple use just seems to be having your set up optimized on one set and your payoff optimized on the other, or in the laziest case, just having one weapon set that's dedicated to survivability during downtime. I stopped because I didn't want to pay for two crossbows when I had to upgrade. It wasn't weird in PoE1 to use a second weapon only for snap shotting and QoL but the tools to support that rudimentary strategy are much stronger here.

My biggest issue is the pack density, it's at the exact numbers that makes it feel like AoE isn't needed to use, but at the same time making single target feel awful to use.
And most of the them are so spread out as well, making only a few kind of skills useful for clearing fast.

Poe2 is already an abject failure. One of the most unfun games I’ve ever played. It’s a spit in the face to not only Poe1 players but ARPG enjoyers as a whole.

Having to get lucky for a leveled up skill gem to drop from a monster rather than it just gaining exp is way worse
One thing I would have loved also is if you could level down gems too just incase you fucked up and the mana cost is more than what your build can currently handle

Imo 2 needed to happen because the engine in 1 is way too outdated and easily fried your hardware
2 also has those issues but not as much so alot of mechanics such as the passive tree, current gems and basic weapons/armor could have easily been ported in but with number changes
I love the new bosses in 2 because they actually do something rather than die in one hit but I feel like if you put everything from 1 back into 2 this wouldnt have been the case

You’d think after a decade of making PoE1 that GGG would know how to avoid the most obvious and avoidable game design mistakes with PoE2. Unfun choices across the board after all that dev time doesn’t bode well for the future.
Also it genuinely doesn’t matter that it’s early access because the skill tree will never be more than it is currently unless they admit they’re retarded and remake the whole fucking thing. There is no build variety, literally zero. Everything is too locked into the classes, there is nothing build warping in one class section that another class can take and make use of. Things are too restrictive and will never be worth wasting points traveling across the tree for.

- crafting your own gear is not really a possibility since the crafting system is effectively non-existent
- gems simply cannot be leveled without having access to higher level areas, which means that trade cucks can easily buy higher level gems to get a big upgrade
- the game requires a lot more farming than poe 1 to find upgrades, trading for them is more effective than ever
