Only parts of my build got affected by the change as I'm not a metafag, but with the few options we have with gems right now it's not that weird that people end up using a lot of the same skills.
I think a lot of the issue people have with the game is struggling to gear up, because that means you have to lean on the skill tree for damage and survivability rather than 50/50 gear/skill tree. Dodge rolling and movement can only take you so far (and I'm saying that as a souls-veteran).

If you want to have a discussion you need to calm down and act like you're not a brown person. Can you do that for me?
If low level gem usage was the issue, simply make it so that the required energy for a proc changes with gem level, from high to low requirement or something. That solves what you're describing without breaking an entire way of playing.

nta. they fundamentally messed up any form of cast on freeze build. I didn't get to comet so my cast on freeze was cold snap which 1 shot everything up to rares. Now it takes 3 freezes to proc so the AoE is inconsistent and it takes a lot more attention to not die from random surrounds. They didn't need to nerf cold snap they should have just made energy changes to the skills that were dominating endgame.

You are way more pigeon-holed into builds now with how fucked attributes are, and how skills are locked behind certain weapons. Not being able to slam on staves, or ice strike on maces. Or being massively attribute, and therefore suffix starved, if you try to use hybrid bases for defense without using hybrid skills.

I've been going lightning rod + lightning arrow with a bunch of shock/lightning related perks. It was fun at first but now it's getting kinda boring. Just filling a metre for shock and exploding screens. desu I don't think anything will match d3 in fun builds.

Played monk to level 10 after my sorc got wrecked, and it's not bad, but I can't see myself doing the campaign again until level 40 where it actually gets good. Might try a witch build for her sexo voice but after then I'm probably dropping the game until it actually releases.

It took me 3 tries to beat the act 2 boss
The first 2 I didn't understand his sandstorm attack but I did notice something as I looked at the death screen
So on the 3rd try when the sandstorm happened I hugged sexema as she held out her hand and survived and proceeded to finish the fight
Then into Act 3, I ran into Might Silverfist and died 10 times in a row. I admit and I am glad and I never would have been able to handle HC for a first time playthrough.

Massive hallways that lead to nothing. Tons of empty space. Spending 30+ minutes finding an objective. Reclearing after you die because enemies reset.

Anyone else feel the tree sort of pigeonholes you into a specific element type? Or is it just warrior issue?
I tried to build cold convert warrior to abuse freeze but realistically you could only build fire on a warrior due to the restrictive tree.

What skill do I use now as a stormweaver?
Frostbolt doesn't freeze well enough by itself. Spamming cold snap somewhat works but it's annoying and still doesn't feel powerful enough.

This game has the least build variety i've ever seen in an ARPG.
Each class has basically one or two great skills, some classess (like Witch and Sorc) are sharing them as well.
The rest skills are so weake you can realistically make it viable enough.
So in the end the game has like 5-6 skills combos that work and the rest is just dogshit.
Not something i expected to see after advertisement of hundreds support gems and infinite amount of combinations even GGG arent aware of yet.
D3, D4, LE have more viable builds unironically.

I'm in act 3 now at level 36 blood mage
So far I've been doing okay, it's not the fastest but it's still decent enough
>Start mob encounters with several contagion casts pressing E
>then I walk up to them and throw down some bone cages pressing F
>then I roll back and cast a curse on as many as I can with Q
>then place a Chaos Totem down with T
>then I also place a frost bomb in the middle of them with middle click
>then after all that I immediately start charging bonestorm by holding left click and let loose
>for any big guys, I spam bone blast on them with R
>then once a corpses start appear I then spam right click to unearth as many bone constructs as I can
>then I run around collecting orbs and wisps for health and energy shield
>then finally I repeat the process again for the next enemies
Again it's not the fastest but it's very reliable and has kept me safe and alive and it's not like it's super slow either. Bonestorm melts so many enemies usually and the chaos and curse just compounds onto their deaths

How long can I keep getting away with this?

My guy you can use Comet with that if you want. If you've never played PoE1 the meta caster build the past few leagues consists of jacking up your mana to deal a gorillion lightning damage using cold skills. Spark with minimal investment just so happens to be a good way to deliver that damage right now

anyways stack ES with ghostwrithe and get a decent hp regen node to completely nullify the life loss.
for reference, my sorc rn has 9.5k es 526 life so 26.3 life regen would do it, but I'm not sure how hard it is to get that amount of life regen

Yes, I literally wrote this. Which you would see if you had eyes. You still need 3 ex for a full 6 mod rare, which is an absolute waste of money that will in 99.9% cases not be worth it.

Balance changes make 100% sense in an EA.
Balance means adjusting the build to align its power level relative to other builds.
Balance does NOT mean outright removing whole archetypes from the game.
Cast on Crit/Freeze/Ignite/Shock was doing too much damage? Lower the proc rate, lower the damage. Don't make it completely unplayable.
This has 0 to do with the game being in early access, and everything to do with the direction of the game they are taking - dumbed down version of Poe 1.
There current top builds are melee, summoner and bows - all of which 1-shot all the content in the game: hammer of the gods and sunder 1-shot bosses and with minions you can literally afk all content.
How is it good balancing to remove all trigger meta skill viability? It simply removes build variety, leaving the player with less viable build options.
This is BAD for the game.
I'm unironically waiting for Poe 1 next league, since I don't currently see any potential for fun builds in Poe 2. Any further cool and interesting interactions which were praised in Poe 1 will be dumbed down and outright removed from Poe 2.

The Ascendancies are bad narrow designs that pigeonhole builds thanks to points that are just "here is a new spell".
The passive tree is unfinished shit with shitloads of boring points and huge pathing tax, lacking the variety of POE1's tree
Skill variety is very lacking, especially given that builds are supposed to be using multiple gems for the same weapon. Between the bad skill variety and undercooked passive tree there are like three builds for each character, or to be more specific, each weapon. I am really worried about this.
One-portal design works very well for normal mapping in keeping defensive layers relevant and keeping mapping engaging but falls apart completely when you ever have to play a league mechanic which are POE1 league mechanics designed around being rippy but not crazy punishing to die to. I skip every deli mirror I find because deli is terrifying in POE1 where I just risk 10% XP, now I'm risking 10% and my entire map of loot
Crafting ruined. It's not even really crafting, you just trans aug regal exalt exalt exalt and if you're close to an upgrade you yolo chaos. POE1's crafting is its 2nd best feature behind the crazy craftsmanship behind builds so this is terrible

Combat feels great, game is visually a total upgrade Sanctum-notwithstanding, great music. I'm a fan of the game being slower so I don't care that POE1 zoomzooms are getting nerfed.
I wanted POE2 to be POE1 but with a game I didn't hate playing in between all the fun progression bits. They got the first part down, hopefully they fix the progression bits to be cool again rather than kneel to reddit zoom seethe

If you're talking about PoE1 Archmage, there's a cheap unique that lets you trigger another skill from a spell cast (Frosbolt from Ice Nova casts). Normally you'd have to press two buttons without that helmet. That enables you to shit out a couple dozen spell hits per second with enough cast speed. Spark got nerfed so many times over the years that you won't reach that kind of damage with that much screen coverage in a few seconds unless you spend a couple thousand exalts more in gearing

Similar setup but I have some differences. I use frost wall as my enemy stopper, ice bomb for damaging them and building freeze while they're stuck. Bone storm to shatter the wall. Recast wall on corpses. Detonate corpse to blast the wall again. Makes for very effective freeze and control to give you the space you need for frost bomb and bone storm to do their work. Fuck cold snap that skill sucks ass. Can't even kill a full health white mob half the time.
