So I'm considering following this thread which would provide +20% Ailment Magnitude and then +30% damage bonus on enemies already affected by an ailment. Does this mean I would be spending 4 skill points to get +54% damage bonus against shocked enemies in total, as in 30+(20*1.2)? Is there any point to doing that instead of just dumping those four points into Two-Handed Damage for a total of 48% unconditional? I am trying to do a shock crossbow build but the more I think about it, the +20% damage bonus from shock sounds more and more underwhelming. Unless I'm missing something here.

I got through the Act 1 on SSF HC on my first attempt somehow, and I almost got fucking murdered by the very first boss of Act 2.
Done a "victory lap" through the Act 1 except for the Count fight, because "trying out skills" have had me waste a bunch of Support gems on shit that literally doesn't do anything, and upgraded my bow to deal like twice the damage of what it did before.
Went to fight the first Act 2 boss again, and almost got murdered again.
That faggot's slam dealt almost exactly 300 damage to me. I guess bosses do crit, right?
I remember getting hit by it and it was dealing closer to 200 damage instead.

The way they design them (and they admitted this live on exilecon) is that they think of a cool idea and throw it in the game. 99% of them turn out trash. A very small minority might find a niche interaction leagues later.
The problem that they have in PoE2 is that they're all on trash bases in a game where defenses are really hard to come by and they all have 3 lines of stats. Meaning that the cost of running one is a lot higher than on PoE1.

Also, looking at my recordings, half of the skills I'm using are literally not worth pressing.
Snipe sometimes deals INSANE damage - I had it hit the Count for 2500 with the previous bow, but that doesn't seem to be always the case, which is weird. Most of the time it was hitting him for about 1000 or even less.
Vine Arrow feels like a useless piece of dogshit. Maybe there's a way to make it work with investment, but the game didn't help me with its dubious "Suggested Support" page, where it was telling me to use Bursting Plague - which doesn't fucking work with the skill, as it deals precisely zero Poison damage on its own and is instead a Chaos DoT.
Barrage is weird. it doesn't work with most of the spells that could've actually benefitted from it, and for the stuff it CAN support, a one-off discount Multistrike with a long-ass cooldown doesn't seem to make a real difference.
Freezing Salvo I tried out and thought "wow, it's a great nuke and it scales so well with Scattershot!" only to realize it would usually miss 30 out of 36 projectiles it's firing even against bigger bosses. And it's kinda shit at applying freeze as well.
I don't even know if I want to increase it's AoE or decrease it - who the fucks knows what that implies? Would increasing AoE make it hit more often because it'll increase the AoE of each individual arrow or will decreasing the AoE instead do the trick, making the spread AoE tighter? A mystery.
Either way, for some reason there is literally NO ice skill Ranger can use as the "main" attack across the first five skill levels.

What is the AoE radius on this thing, is it actually dogshit?
I'm struggling with choosing the proper ascendancies for witch hunter after you get the culling strike + decimating strike ones.
The elemental shield thing looks nice but I feel like you need to invest way more into armor and evasion rating to make it late game viable so I can just respec into that later.

I'm still working my ice skill stormweaver through act 2. Got the first trial done as well. Went in with a buddy and gave it a few shots. Went in alone the next day and got it first run. The classes and skills are too much like D3/D4. You have your set skills / bar and that's it. Can't deviate much from it. You're just choosing like 9/15 skills based on what is currently meta/works. This is exactly D3/D4. This will be good for one or two play throughs and that's it.
I have no idea why they have been so obsessed with copying D3. It was never good. They have such their own unique identity yet they run away from that and lean into copying the shitty past. It's very strange.

It doubles the buildup of your ailments and stun, it clears whatever adds bosses have around them that your 0 strike range strikes can't hit and then you can link it with all kinds of utility, maim, rage etc
Try killing a boss without it and then try a boss with it.

I do genuinely believe that they'll get the balance right but as of rn I am struggling to justify blood mage. I just feel like an underpowered sorc, because I can't seem to do jack shit damage outside of frost wall and bone storm. Didn't pick minion passives because I wanted them more as meat shields than doing damage. Build is not really coming together.

Poisonburst Arrow is my BnB currently as I have no idea what I'm doing and Ranger is clearly purpose-built to use Lightning shit at least early on, but I guess I'm this much of a hipster.
It's not bad, but trying to scale it is difficult. One'd think Comorbidity is a no-brainer for doubling the Poison DoT, but the weird thing that everything else of that supposed "Poison Ranger" build scales with the "potential poison damage" and not with the actual DPS.
So, while Poisonburst Arrow itself seems to benefit a lot from it, Vine Arrow, Toxic Growth, and Plague Bearer all get a heavy hit from using it. Very counterintuitive.
Vine Arrow is pretty much dogshit, and Plague Bearer makes me wonder if I got scammed out of an aura, but Toxic Growth is actually pretty damn powerful.
It's a complete and utter ass to use, though. It's slow, it's imprecise, it requires the enemy to stand somewhat still for quite a long time, and the dumb jump you do is literally harmful, because it makes attempting to fire it backwards to retreat through it move you into the enemies while being animation-locked.
But if you do manage to jump through all of its retarded hoops, it hits like a truck, and you can pre-load it in some cases. It's pretty much the only "real" skill I have aside from Snipe and Poisonburst Arrow, and it literally doesn't have any Support in it.

I'm suffering HARD from not having any AoE clear. I swapped the Bursting Plague the game has scammed me into taking to Poisonburst, but it's clearly a very, VERY late-game thing, because even with my now fully-physical damage bow (i.e. a very high actual Poison damage), the explosion it does is hilariously weak.
Freezing Salvo I hoped could work as AoE clear, but it's not very good at that either.
I really don't want to swap Lightning Arrow back in, but it seems like the only option I currently have.

I thought they were public about it, they said they were doing less gold rare drops for more gear rare drops instead because people were complaining about never getting gear and being engaged with loot.

Though for real though they need to up rare orb drops if they want buying and crafting with npcs to be important. Feels bad when you're in act3 or later and you're still stuck crafting and hoarding blue junk.

That and gems needs to be boosted or buyable or craftable, classes like gemling are almost unplayable because of how much extra gems you need to farm.

I've had the opposite experience. Playing with a group of 4 total, the health pools get insane. Bosses on average seem much harder because they can build up way more bullshit in the final phases. The only nice part is having someone draw aggro but even then most bosses have some kind of room/arena mechanics so aggro doesn't mean you're totally safe.

In case anyone is wondering why I'd voluntarily torture myself with a 4 stack is well... Friends. I would much rather play this game solo with all of us asking questions and chatting as we did our own playthroughs but they're all very co-op gamers. They played souls games and Elden Ring entirely in co op. Unstable behavior if you ask me but that's their mentality.

I run a Pathfinder so my advice
>PB Arrow is good for clear once you give it pierce, eventually it replaced my auto attack
>Vine Arrow is for added damage, I put Scattershot on mine (don't even know if it shotguns)

I dont think the HP scales 1-1 so its not like the boss gets 4x the HP. I've only had better experiences in co-op. The bosses cant deal with that many players except for as you said the roomwide attacks. But it sometimes leaves openings for the good players to revive others.

I have leap slam bound to my weapon set two but after a few uses it breaks and stops automatically switching weapons and so it just can't be used until you manually switch to the weapon set

Well I am playing with brand new players. They don't have real builds. We did find a silly combo with Merc and Warrior where somehow me slathering the boss with AP rounds got the warrior to be able to infinitely stun lock any boss. So we could just bully our way through if we wanted. I dropped Merc because it got boring in that group setting and swapped over to my witch.

22.5% more damage on bosses, which sounds like a lot but it's 2 nodes and most of it's coming from Decimating Strike. Far better for normal mobs of course.

People playing HC just have their finger hovering over the escape key ready to press at even a sniff of danger.
Stacking defensives so every boss fight just becomes a multi year war of attrition that the player will always win because the player can just leave and retry when all their resources are used up or things are looking bad.
They have to cope and say it's difficult because their on their 11th character and only just reached Cruel and when you inspect all their deaths it's because they got too cocky and didn't follow their time honoured strat of running away at the first hint of danger.

Gives me some food for thought.

I came to the same conclusion about the weapon already, but I didn't give much though about trying out Pierce on PBA.
It's also cool to hear Concentrated Effect works as I hoped it would on Freezing Salvo. I might grab that support gem and see how it does, in the worst case, I can slap it on Plague Bearer or something.
Increased AoE being good for Toxic Growth is also good news.

I feel that there is three things I "can" do meaningfully.

PBA and Toxic Growth are pretty good, so I can focus on using them and use the rest of the kit to cover up the holes.

I think, but I'm not sure, that fully breaking the armor (I have Corrosion on my PBA) was the reason Snipe has somehow nuked the hell out of Count.
So, I could theoretically equip Comorbidity back on it, give up on the rest of the Poison kit, and instead just make sure I have a build that's capable of actually getting Snipe off when it matters.
>shift into Ice
The main reason I'm so hanged up on making Ice work is because I found the unique quiver that makes Chill Magnitude increase all damage taken by enemies. That sounds like a very powerful additional multiplier, but early on there doesn't seem to be any decent Cold auto-attack replacements. And trying to do stuff like Evasive Shot into Snipe doesn't seem like it's worth the effort.

Tell that to Runescape 3, which is exactly the way that GGG is taking the game. PoE 2 is a slop that completely failed its purpose of making the game slower but fair, and more importantly FUN. We don't need the ridiculousness of PoE 1 clear speed meta and boss facetanking, but we also don't need this game to be an even thougher version of Ruthless mode, which has shown itself to be a complete failure in PoE 1 even by GGG's admission.

Their servers are really struggling some times, they're usually fine in the mornings but after work hours you can really feel them shit the bed. Also atleast you didn't see the day one bugs where the game would crash 50% of the time every single time your used a portal or walked through a transition zone, god that was so frustrating.

Any other warriors feeling like paper? I am investing in armor but I still feel like a wet paper bag against certain enemies. Vaal type enemies fuck me up. All of their damage seems so fucking high compared to other enemies. Vaal guards with the bow and arrows fuck me up with just straight fire damage and the fire mines they throw on the ground. I have 50 percent fire res right now so maybe that is why? Trying to cap things but that is a bit hard.

Yes once you get to the temple after the gateway you will get shit on as a warrior the next area seems a lot less fucked from memory
A lot of them use chaos damage which you will absolutely not have on your gear and for some reason they decided to not tune the damage to be lower there (they did not test late act 3 well enough)

There is definitely something wrong with mouse control. Too many times, I'm actively clicking to attack, while holding force attack, and nothing happens until I move. One time I couldn't attack using the mouse altogether. Only the attacks bound to my keyboard were functioning.

You could go the singular poison route instead of poison stacking, find a way to get 100% poison on Snipe, maybe go crit, and use that as your big damage dealer. Or just use it as a normal bow ability (you'd definitely want something extra like crit/bleed/poison though, a single big hit's good but it's a little lackluster).
>shift into Ice
I was thinking this too because Freezing Cryo was fun but there just don't seem to be very good bow-ice skills or an ascendancy for it, all you'd be getting from deadeye is +1 proj and move speed. Maybe the Rangers third ascendancy will be an elementalist of sorts.

If you already went Pathfinder then you're kind of forced to go poison since that's all it's good for and you can't respec into Deadeye. If you haven't gone Pathfinder yet then I suppose that's an option. Fyi, from what I've heard concoctions are trash, they go through too many flask charges to be viable.

I think it's slept on because it feels like it really only matters in the later game when you can flesh out each weapon skill set on the tree. Auto swapping when you use that skill is really the play here. I want to try a quarterstaff/crossbow Merc because I think it might synergize well but I have to put more thought into it.
