I was playing slowly and just hit act 4 yesterday, was having fun with my cold sorc finally feeling powerful after I got comet. Respecced a lot of my tree into mana to afford it. Now I wake up to find it has been bricked. Honestly, fuck this game. "B-but it's early access". $30, faggot.
Is any sorcerer build even viable right now or is the entire character just bad? I played manual cold snap + frost wall/frost bomb until comet and it was awful, I'm not going back to that.

We need to talk about ggg's deadeye obsession. Every fucking poe 1 league, and now even in poe 2, deadeye is the best class/character. If you want to play the game "as intended" (as in, amassing currency and playing a fucking world economy simulation), you need to pick that bow tranny and farm currency for 100 hours before switching to something you actually find fun.

the builds aren't 'working as intended", they literally aren't working at all and even 200ex in you can't clear a pack of white mobs.

If every build has a baseline dps of 100(theoretically) and your little tiny limp dicked cast on crit abusing server crashing cometslop build had 10000 dps that got nerfed by 95%, it will still be stronger by a magnitutde of 5 above any other build.

they arent replacing sanctum, they put way too much work into making it foundational for player progression.
they'd have to spend a ton of dev hours coming up with a suitable replacement, designing around it, and then implementing it, all while keeping the current EA gameplay and flow in check, which would extend the whole EA by like another half year

I think the most enjoyment I will get from poe 2 will be watching GGG realize that its economics do not work as a live service game. The average poe 2 player will go through the campaign and quit, and won't even have to buy stash tabs because with the amount of loot you get there's no need - and you instantly sell everything for gold anyway. Actually cast-on-shock was the original trigger gem for comet where people used it with spark
cast-on-ignite is used in the srs cast-on-minion-death setup to shit out a ton of fireballs

Now I get it abooboo my build no worky and I agree that they should've done a larger weekly predictable balance pass rather then just throwing darts at a nerf board but you can't tell me this shit with multiple trigger setups wasn't degenerate and that they would've had to balance every single additional spell ever around this.
The thing they fucked up was not limiting spell triggers to attacks.

My main problem with the COF isn't the nerf on its own. It's that they decided to nerf it because of the interaction with Comet and didn't bother fixing the bug with it.

Pre Patch:
Comet has a 1 second base cast time, with an additional 1 second added on.
COF gains 10 max energy for every 0.13 seconds of cast time.
So, the Max energy should have been 77. 1 / 0.13 * 10 = 77.
But the actual Max energy was 154 because it was including the additional 1 second that gets added onto Comets cast time, even though that is not Base Cast time.

Post Patch:
Comet still has a 1 second base cast time, with an additional 1 second added on.
COF now gains 10 max energy for every 0.1 second of cast time.
So, the Max energy should be 100. 1 / 0/1 * 10 = 100
But the actual Max energy is now 300.
Which would mean the Cast time that COF thinks Comet has is now 3 seconds.

Why is the energy so high. Pre Patch I would have said that GGG don't know what "base" actually means. Now the Energy cost makes zero sense. If the energy cost made sense this nerf wouldn't be as bad, right now it's 3 times slower than it should be on Comet generation, this bug also only affects comet since adding Eye of Winter inside it gives the proper 110 energy cost with a 1.1 second cast time.

A better nerf to the "Cast on" spells would have to just increased the mana cost of socketed spells.

The ascendancies themselves are fine, it's just that maces are bad, melee offers no benefits and the only other melee weapon is on the far opposite side of the tree. Cry warrior is good enough.

They'll probably be fine when either bolt crossbow builds are buffed or other melee skills are in even if they receive zero direct adjustment. You could technically go grenade warrior right now but it offers nothing over WH and Deadeye on that build

I was playing self cast comet before respeccing into the crit versions, I shouldn't have respecced, but thankfully its only 15ish skill points.
Arc on left click, at lvl 14 it feels ok to get 1-3 straggler mobs
Frost bomb in right click, with lower cooldown and duration, this is my opener, prep skill
Frost wall, on small packs it doesnt hit, should be used as a barrier for safety. On big mobs it does hit and is a way to get a quick freeze.
Refresh frost bomb
Once you have the pack/mob prepped, then hit with cast cast comet.
Hit frozen stragglers with shatter
On bosses, do all the same stuff but add mana storm if you can get a safe window.
I completely freezelocked Viper cruel and Doryani doing this.

Then i swapped to coc on my first map and it failed miserably because every white mob has the hp of act rares.

I think this is mostly a weapon-lock issue since it's not just trigger skills that have this but a majority of the game
My hope is that they ease up on the weapon-locked restrictions and allow a bit of cross contamination that doesn't rely on weapon swapping, like earthquake/volcanic fissure working with axes (lorewise you could "cleave" the earth in 2).

We've already seen half the Act 4, some Act 5 and people playing Druids and Huntresses. All the assets are already in the game, modelers and artists have long since left for other projects like Trench Crusade. Its all about testing and tweaking the numbers so 6 months is not that far off for more Acts.

Is the class balance going to be absolutely broken on full release? 100%. Class balance is absolutely broken right now. Its obvious they just chose the path of adding cool shit in the game and letting the playerbase do the proper balance testing.

I am guessing when they release the Shadow + ascendancies they'll also release a bunch more damage over time and chaos-based
Templar and Druid will mostly feature some new minions (wolves, templar crusaders ect.) and some physical spells and elemental conversion tools, along with some elemental ailment stuff
I'd imagine druid also coming with some gimmick spells and/or blood/physical themed thorns/geomancy spells.

We'll see, but I am remaining skepitcally optimistic as 2/3rds of the game's tools just aren't in yet and I can full well imagine them adding a ton of support gems and changes to skills over the coming months that are more substantial than just flat nerfs.
I just hope they're going to be more tactical about it rather then pushing kneejerk changes.
I kind of liked the less white/magic/rare items dropping. I just wish I had more (and better) currency to actually craft on the ones I do have.

Not entirely. Theres a lot of Flail nodes when you go up from the Warrior tree, even when Flails aren't even in the game yet.

Kinda tired of hearing the reddit argument about these nerfs. If you make the thing that gives you free ad clear too strong then you invalidate every single other thing in the game. It happens every time a game has "on trigger" effects; those effects have to be tuned to a razors edge or they become the only thing worth doing because you get something for nothing, or for hyper focusing your entire build on the triggering of the effect and therefore you just break the game math.

Yeah they probably went too far with it, but leaving it in that state wasn't an option long term. Sorry your broken build got fixed, it's not like it was some gigabrained 10kIQ chakra alignment in the mind palace build. It was the same old busted hotness that's in any game with on-trigger effects. They very obviously do not want you walking through trash mobs and nuking screens in this game without a very diverse, invested end-game setup.

So reroll if you have to and find a new build. You get more game out of it and you get to shake up your skills. Sounds like early access to me.

From what I read Mana recovery rate affects all ways you can regen mana. So normal passive mana regen, recoup effects, flasks etc.
While Mana Regeneration just affects your passive Mana regen.

Even the cookie cutter bad builds clear pretty comfortably, those builds were nerfed because they deleted bosses in less than 2 seconds. Kripp's feedback with maps is that monster health doesn't get that much buffed between Map Tiers, only their damage.

There's one issue I don't think people have noticed yet: The campaign is only going to get worse once more weapon types are out, because it's going to be even harder to find upgrades for your build.

Increase the amount of Mana it costs to cast the spells that trigger from the "Cast on" spells so you have to talent into Mana Regen or stack Mana
Or lower the damage for subsequent triggers in a small time frame

I don't think blood mage is unplayable at all. In fact I'd probably be fucked without it. Heal globes are wildly good utility for crit or rapid hit builds, and as long as you can bob and weave to get them, you barely need a life flask, and this is before I've even got a second notable.

the game has a human component that GGG is hoping to cultivate into a lasting player base. unscheduled nerf passes will give a bad first impression to the player base when it bricks a lategame character. if GGG plan to nerf builds regularly they should make it a weekly or bi-weekly event so players can make preparations instead of leaving them trapped with an unviable lategame character. they could even give one free respec on nerf days. there are ways to balance the game without being an asshole about it.

What? Most of my weapon upgrades already come from crafting. I've very rarely got a juiced drop. My best gear has been lucky early rolls on high tier whites into blues, and then a good follow up with a regal orb. 3 incredibly good stats beats 5 meh or useless stats every time..
