Putting in a-life similar to clear sky wouldn't be hard at all. All they do is get spawned in at a base and then go to a point on the map to stand around. The hard part is removing 90% of the game content that is built around triggered spawns and optimizing the NPCs so they don't tank FPS thanks to being unreal meta human bullshit.

Yeah see I was afraid you'd say that. This isn't Cyberpunk. I don't think it's at all rational to compare the two. From what GSC said in semi-public channels the situatiojn seems to be A-life was breaking the game so they basically just soft cut it so they could meet the deadline and not have a-life making the game even buggier and soft-locky and shit.

It could take that long sure, but that seems like an outside estimate for a worst case.

Yeah but that's the thing anon: Those delays are time we COULD have been sitting here seething over an unplayable mess and they decided to hold back and work more before releasing. I see no reason to expect the game to take that long to fix. The game runs well on my PC, they're squashing softlocks and progression blocks pretty consistently.

Of course, if somebody at GSC were to say I'm wrong, I'd have to beleive them but right now it seems people are just making a completely unfair comparison because both are slav games that got delayed.

I don't know what's going to happen but doomer opinions about how this release will be as bad as one of the worst one in recent memory don't resonate with me. I'm not that optimistic. I imagine it's a 70% chance 1.04 will just be more bugfixes, maybe some performance boosts and 50% chance we don't get A-Life until 2025. I also think they've been crunching at maximum levels since release and have gone quiet about patches and expectations and that to me seems like the attitude of a company that plans on delivering rather than needing to "manage" the community.

Just finished STALKER2, and I probably got the best ending ever possible, by allowing Skif to enter the Noosphere, his new home. In a way, this was the Zone's gift to Skif, for helping her set things right. Strelok was obsessed with protecting the Zone, eventually turning it into a prison that would ultimately engulf the world, his death was like a gift to him, for he no longer has to suffer needlessly.

stalker 2 is pretty good. they just need to fix the performance, graphical glitches like tree popping/auto-brightness... fix the massive input lag, redo all the movement/shooting mechanics, create an AI system essentially from scratch, redesign areas with more interesting things to do/explore, rebalance guns and artifacts, change loot variety, give NPCs more dialogue, redo the english voice acting, fix the broken quests and then it'll be a pretty good game!

I love and hate these things. I think its interesting having enemies that almost necessitate using explosives to deal with and keep your distance from, but man these things love to show up at the worst times to try and make a straightforward into a clusterfuck. I could turn down their range but I find it hilarious seeing them run into a pack of AI stalkers and just fry them to a crisp. Work out with the NPC story you can hear from someone about a group of stalkers who had the same happen. So far I've been enjoying SOC, though. I'm not sure what loadout I want to stick to, been using the Akaban for a bit with a beretta I found on Ghost. As much as I enjoy sticking to the eastern bloc weapons, and the grenade launcher has been VERY useful, the scope for warsaw pact arms is fuckhueg and blocks the grenade launcher's aim since its a side mount, so I have to take it off to aim properly or just wing it, which DOES work most of the time but looks silly. Maybe I'll switch to the VSS, since the ammo for it is starting to become a bit more common, still feel like I'll end up burning through it too quickly versus good old 5.45×39, though. I should really use my sidearm more liberally.

You're trying too hard. Doomerism is the state of the industry and not everything is a Russian conspiracy, A-life pissed some people off and they're frankly right to not take a company at their word that they'll fix it until proven otherwise. Though I suspect they will eventually, seems like a technical issue that got away from them more than anything else.

I just finished playing SoC again. This game is nothing like SoC. The people playing it are just happy to be playing something and they're mystified by the UE5 graphics and cutscenes. Now if you're gay that's fine, but personally I enjoyed SoC and I rather play SoC. Hopefully someone comes out and makes it "like SoC" because I've seen a lot of people complaining it's nothing like the old games.

I wonder how many of you turned off combat music.

I played it with COTZ plugin and as far as freeplay slop goes its excellent, but I formatted my PC and forgot to back it up so now I have to reinstall, either way if u like freeplay mods its a must play, very fun, and cotz quests have lots of variety such as going to lab x18 and what not

That's true. I'm just saying that if it were a proper base, they would likely try to make it more liveable.
As for there not being any materials/workers, during my military service I've seen how soldiers stationed in the middle of the forest, after some time started making improvements to the camp with whatever they could find, with no order to do so, just so they have an easier time serving there.
Some built comfy summerhouses made of brushwood, near their tents, to have a place to smoke, some made a sports ground out of scrap materials, some disassembled the pallets they were sleeping on and made proper beds out of them.
Guys who were frequently assigned for guard duty built a makeshift shack at their checkpoint to have an easier time standing guard, which they later gradually improved from a tiny brushwood shelter to a proper wooden guardhouse. All this while per protocol they're only required to have a dugout and a roadblock.
People here tend to want to improve their living conditions when they have a chance, and are often quite resourceful at that.

Happened to me as well. As I understand, the only fix for this is run around the edge of Zalissya until the Monolithians come out and the battle continues as intended. After almost half an hour I managed to lure a bunch of them outside, some loners ran outside as well and we killed them but there's still four Monolith guys inside the building that just won't come out no matter what.
I just reverted to the save before finding the emitter and decided to wait until the next patch hopefully fixes it.

Yes if it's the one that also includes Agroprom but I wasn't friendly with Ward, who have a base there. Felt like I was cutting around between the two exploring and doing shit but most things go back to Garbage at that point in the game.

They're extremely likely to be heavily mutated human beings, genetically altered by malevolent entities in the Noosphere, who are able to affect and manipulate the Zone to some extent. This would also explain snorks, since they're positively former humans, but they're twisted and mutated and "crafted" by malevolent entities of the Noosphere as well. It's very likely that it's only possible for such entities to do such horrible beings when stalkers are caught in an emission/blowout, along with spawning new anomalies and anomalous phenomena, and of course, artifacts. Why the malevolent entities do it is anyone's guess. Maybe they do it for shits and giggles, maybe it's just their nature, or they're in a war between benevolent beings in the Noosphere, but they can't really kill each other so they're forced to cause mental damage by fucking up human beings in the Zone instead, since it's basically the Noosphere's special sandbox playground.

I was expecting that you'd be able to take several sidequests/tasks from NPCs like Barkeep, Sid, Boozer etc. like the old games but the fact that you can only take one is really dumb IMO. Some really give you a comparatively small amount e.g. 900 coupons for killing mutants (which is fuck all due to the dumb balance on Veteran) or artifact ones, which are situational and I was too proud to just decline and pick a shittier job. I preferred to just loot ammo (RPK ammo is worth a good chunk), non-task related artifacts, and some suits if I'm lucky and selling them.
Some of the tedium just made me feel like I wasn't going to find much more than I already had seen, though one regret I had was not seeing what I could get from the arch-anomalies - the ball outside of Malachite just seemed to kill me but others seemed feasible if I went back with a Veles.

That quest is bugged and awards negative instead of positive rep. Honestly Malachite is bugged as fuck in general because of how factions are coded. Malachite is part of the Scientists faction which is allied with Ward. If you've necked enough Ward soldiers they're considered 'hostile' just by association which is fucking retarded considering all the Spark people walking around Malachite. Just UEtools and faction fix them to neutral whenever they turn red

The map is empty. They did not implement gameplay. They hired a bunch of modders to place trees around a UE5 map.

You have to remember that they had a different story for STALKER2, before the invasion of Ukraine.

STALKER Leon Kennedy, the one who appears in the game trailers, was a FSB agent.
It was Russia who turned on the Duga and created Monolith 2.0, with Noon supposedly taking the blunt of the war agaisnt the resurgent Monolith.
Strider wasnt supposed to die for no reason, he also wasnt supposed to become a monolithian again.
Strelok was supposed to be working with Monolith 2.0 after becoming disenfranchised with society out of the Zone, deciding that everyone outside lived fake, corrupt lives and suffering from some kind of PTSD. The Zone was his home, and he wanted to expand it so that everyone went through what he went, to create a better, more honest world.

However, the Invasion blew all of this out of the park, this is why they needed 2 more years to make the game when it was supposed "ready to go" by 2022. The original story was better. Right now, what we have is essentially a fanfic of a fanfic.
A shame, but at least STALKER2 will be able to become a baseline for future mods. Imagine Lost Alpha, but 2.0. Or Anomaly 2.0.

revolver is offensively good, took it to the endgame section alongside m701 and I've ended up using m701 maybe couple times at best. Also dirt cheap to repair, and dirt cheap to get ammo for because it uses ammo that was meant to be purchased in bundles of 30 for an automatic rifle, and then for some dumb ass reason it deals 3x the damage of 9x39 rifles. It's just silly how good it is, used in on 1.0 for budget reasons, now it's 1.0.3, i've no idea what to do with all of the money I get, and I keep running with a revolver anyway because it's just too good

Im currently at Zaton just finished the Dead frequency questline, Im still using the scoped AK from the lesser zone and changed from the magfeed 870 to the spas I found at the cordon but haven't found anyone to upgrade it.

Malachite is semi-useable as long as you don't have the "scientists think i'm the boogeyman" shit going on(this actually expires after a few minutes as long as you're not killing wardens). You can warp there using a guide and interact with the shop/tech, but you have to leave through the sewer exit and once you do leave they lock the door behind you until you warp back.

It makes no sense because the game clearly pushes you towards a Spark playthrough, but at the same time cuts off a 3rd of the map. Exploring Duga, Cement Factory, Malachite, Burnt Forest and Yantar is a huge fucking pain in the ass because eventually the nearest base just ends up being Rostok.

I've beat it on release at 1.0, now I'm replaying it on 1.0.3, and difference is night and day. Shitty feeling of random spawns got reduced a bit and more than once I've seen enemies I've ignored in the same location when I came back, economy got tweaked and you can now easily afford running around in relatively expensive suits even in early mid game, doors to lab now open and I didn't need to noclip through anything so far. Very much appreciated updates.

though maybe it got a tiny bit too easy with this new economy, i used to have no idea how to make money, now I don't know what to do with all of my money

Because they changed it to better match the real life counterpart. Zaton is where the big lake was (hence the boats), the southernmost part of it is the Swamps. Yanov is south of Pripyat. Duga is a lot farther IRL than in game, though.

I changed up the look of the guns a bit so they're easier to differentiate. Except Vulkan should be brighter than G36 and have a nice metallic finish to it, and probably lose the green mag because it looks retarded. AS Val should be darker and AK a bit brighter

I always assumed that anomalies don't change their position completely randomly after the emissions, but rather that it only happens in a specific grid. Like, if there's a random springboard on a road, it cannot disappear from that place after an emission and another one will not pop up a kilometer away, but instead it can only change its position within a range of a few meters on that particular road.
So if there are no anomalies in a specific location, it can be considered safe because they will not appear there from nowhere. However, if at least one is nearby, there is already a risk that after an emission it might change its position and, for example, destroy a shelter located a few meters away.

It kinda works like that in CoP, where anomalies in some of the clusters can actually change their position after an emission, but they will never appear in random places where you wouldn't expect them to be.

I find it's much easier to hit moving heads from a distance with the holo sight and a rapid 3-round burst with no recoil. The MP5 is also lightweight and aesthetic as fuark. Provided you get headshots I can't tell any functional difference between 9x18, 9x19, 5.45, 5.56...

what mods are you using? bullet is supposed to hide and tells you to do the same near the bus stop. then you just wait until the bandits and the dutyer come closer and you can easily kill them before they even know it.

I'm only using ZRP 1.09. I somehow picked the absolute worst time to move into Dark Valley as there's a bandit squad in front of the Dutyer's escort. If he moves too close, that squad and his own escort aggro and kill him by the time Bullet and I reach the ambush spot. I had to run ahead to wipe out those bandits on the road then everything else happened. A few threads ago, someone said that ZRP fucks with spawners without telling you (kinda, the details are on their site) and I'm starting to think that extra bandit squad isn't supposed to be there.

anyone surprised at how positive the reviews are? overall i like it but it definitely falls short considering things outside the main story like npcs feeling alive, a-life, and the overly simple game design for the current year i will also recommend but still.

I can increase spawn several times in warfare mode in anomaly, thousands of NPCs will walk around the all map in real time, FPS will almost no decrease. Stop talking nonsense about Alife. Offline part of alife has always been seamless and practically did not load the PC, with current CPUs, processing several thousand NPCs is not a problem, it was limited in the trilogy only because of the impact on the story quests and not performance. Online part is already in S2 and it is optimized much worse than in S1

UE5 graphics some of the best out, the real life vs. game videos are hard to argue with; borrowed the stalker atmosphere and lore, it has mocap cutscenes, basically a Stalker version of Metro or something. I can't be too surprised people liked it

i think that's my problem. Since I'm not really doing the main quest, I wander around and I notice it all the time. Sometimes I afk for a few minutes and while playing with my dick, and I just get shit continuously spawning right next to me. Or I turn around and see 3 military fighting 3 fleshes, neither of them were there before. It really breaks the immersion knowing that stuff is programmed to just auto-spawn next to me on a timer, instant-aggro, and then just attack you in a loop. It's pretty fucking hard not to notice it.
The only way people wouldn't notice, is if they're exclusively playing the campaign. As much as I hate the game, I can't shit on the campaign yet because I haven't played it yet.

what do you personally mean by soul?
in SoC i spent the most time in the bar area, garbage and cordon. the maps are designed like a maze and there's tons of shit for you to find. every time you think it's just a normal hallway, room, etc. you find a door or a stash or bridge or something and it's incredible. real thought went into it.
also, NPCs seem unique and have a reason for being there

let me explain. the art concept of the game is soul, things fit in the stalker universe. its a welcomed game. my issue is the way you feel while in the game, playing it. the npcs and anything outside the main quest feels dead. yeah theres some exploration incentive but nothing fleshed out in terms of loot usefulness, economy, meaningful side quests (factions). so you are expected to go through the main quest and thats it. npcs are missing lore dialogue and interactability, they are not independent doing their own thing, non-main quest areas are meaningless and dead.
not sure if this video is scripted but they could add more spontaneous behaviours and emotion to the world. thats what i mean by soul. its a feeling that the game lives independent of you. perhaps it can be summarized by a lacking a-life?
