SRS was nerfed because every minion build used SRS (100% usage, yes) but people used SRS because skeletons suck.

I'm stuck near the end of act 3 on my merc. Went in blind ssf knowing nothing about the game (Never played poe1), I've beat every area and boss so far, challenging but not frustratingly so, however act 3 has me increasingly struggling to kill even regular mobs and bosses take forever.

I've built around armor piercing rounds into high velocity rounds armor break, very basic, so am I just cooked now?

you're doing way lower damage, leech was changed, it leeches longer, afaik (but don't quote me on that) leech instances are also heavily limited and maybe you're getting only one per mob, and most importantly there's a hidden leech resistance on monsters which seems to be very high at all times and only scales further the higher you go. if you think leech is what will solve this game's focus on recovery then no, it isn't, every leech user complains about not even feeling them having a leech. gain on hit seems to be way more reliable at least during the campaign and clear but you're still flask reliant on bosses like everyone else no matter what you do.

i got it at the end of act 3 then took blood magic a few levels later. mana was way more annoying than health. 64 in act 3 cruel atm and its been chill. blasph+despair hexblast. main problem is i havent gotten a decent weapon in forever, still using this cause the dmg is juiced.

By act 3 normal every monster has a 95% or higher leech resistance, so unless you're doing PoE1 levels of damage you're not going to be leeching anything
That's part of what makes blood witch so fucking bad, you're supposed to be able to offset the life cost with the leech node, but you just end up leeching nothing whatsoever

Thanks, that's exactly what I had in mind when skilling into minions - to have less of them. Really like it when what is supposed to make my character stronger has self-defeating drawbacks.

I eventually managed to "unbrick" it by massively speccing into strength for health, regen, getting flask charge generation on belt implicit and the flask itself so now my character finally doesn't kill herself while using spells, and is actually really tanky

Only issue is that the bloodmage effectively gets nothing from her ascendancy outside of defensives on the right side of the tree, crit bonus barely matters when you need to spend 50 skill points just making sure your class doesn't kill itself so you don't have points for crit on the tree
It really feels like nobody actually tested anything here
Maybe bloodwitch would be better if you instantly looped around and went for an attack build instead, then you'd actually be in range to pick up your shitorbs when they drop

melee and minions have completely separate scaling is the reason. like even if you wanted to play mace with crossbows you'd have some synergy there because two-handed and attack nodes would work with both and there's a bit of overlapping interactions with stun and armor break. would still be probably mediocre at best compared to focusing on just melee or just ranged... but minions and other stuff have no overlapping scaling whatsoever.

Lightning is legitimately not playable late game on sorc unless you love sludging your way through each map for 10 minutes. Cold skills absolutely fuck on everything in the game right now but they're also about to be nerfed. They're really making sure PoE2 is a no fun zone. Devs are literally in various streamers chats looking at what to nerf instead of working on interesting shit for the game. The absolute fucking state of the passive tree in 2 compared to 1 should immediately be their first target to work on. Might as well be looking at the D4 passive board.

I'll be honest I'm a little retarded, but everything quarterstaves have is already doing like 80% conversions and the only real options on the tree seem like the percentages are too small to really matter. I guess reality rending and the flames exist, but I haven't managed to actually stack up the purple ones to any meaningful amount and reality rending seems very inconsistent. Darkness seems like the play, but with the way it works getting hit at all massively nerfs your damage for ten seconds since it doesn't eat ES first for some reason. Having an actual chaos attack that isn't just a way to slap on a curse would help a lot. I guess I should respec to bow?

I think I shoulda just went invoker, but fuck it I'll see how far I can go I guess.

Why do mobs move SO FAST and why do they only have 3 types of AI?
It's either the ranged one that will just stand from far and shoot you, the fast ones that will run at you and try and circle/trap you or the bigger guys that will walk a bit in front of you and do some slam on the ground.

Mobs actually fighting your minions is already inconsistent, but I swear there are certain types of mobs that can have your minions attacking them while you did nothing and they still come at you with such focus and persistence like you personally killed their family (which to be fair, you probably did).

Personally I've not bothered with chill magnitude at all since chill is just a slow and freeze is a stun (plus a trigger and cold snap damage), better to put the points into freeze buildup.

Not everything needs a downside or guardrails, yet they're everywhere in PoE2

This applies to skills and notables primarily, but it really seems like someone went over the game with a fine-toothed comb to make sure that everything has a downside. Failing that, it will have some sort of restriction preventing you from "breaking" it, typically at the expense of the thing even being usable.

The number of examples is almost too great to bother listing any, but my favorites are all the skills that involve movement getting the slowest animations and attack speed multipliers known to man. Instead of requiring +50-100% attack speed before they become usable, these should just be solid at baseline and scale slowly with AS.

Additionally, while it's great to see some two-button setups across the range of abilities, those seem to be the only allowed synergies between skills right now. Any interaction beyond explicitly listed ones will often be coded to not work at all, and I just don't get why less fun is a design goal here. Even worse, a lot of abilities just have abysmal AoE, overdone animation lock, and are either tiny, narrow, or only do actual damage in a super specific spot; no amount of stats will ever make these abilities feel good to use.

On the passive front, various notables come with a crippling downside for the privilege of slightly more upside. I can only imagine this is because the nodes would otherwise be as bland as watered-down oatmeal, which is unfortunately what the entire passive tree already feels like. There are barely any nodes that make me really tempted to gun it for them, at the expense of other cool or necessary stuff, and that's what the tree in PoE1 was best at.

While restrictions often breed creativity, we simply can't work around the terrible baseline functionality of some of these skills, and it really just feels like there's gravel in every bit of what should be an otherwise delicious sandwich right now.

It kinda just doesn't make any sense with the skill gems available and leech being in the fucked state it's in. The best nodes it gets are the darkness ones, but giving up auras is pretty fucking bad. Invoker is also just insanely good. Chaos dot can carry you to maps on pretty much anything though, it's really good on 0 investment.

I don't hate the reload mechanic. I mean, it pisses me off, but I think it's interesting conceptually and sets the weapon apart as a ranged weapon. Reload speed becomes faster with attack speed too on top of the nodes to help it. It's awkward early game but it really takes very little time before it starts to even out a bit.

I agree with the other anon that the real problem is the piss payoff. If you want to play bolts, you're better off going one button grenadeless rocket launcher than you are playing the real bolt skills. Some people swear by galvanic shards but I'm fairly certain it's a meme compared to grenade builds right now.

I think the issue people have with it is that a lot of skills are massively underperforming but they only nerf the ones overperforming

The only boss in A3 that I've actually walked away from and though 'hey that was fun and made me use different spells' was the forgemaster. If you want players to enjoy the bosses then design good bosses.

Besides the incredibly scarce acquisition methods there's also just something very fucked up about it in general. Just from testing Blood Mage it's not nearly as much as you'd think even at 10%. Most leech is now physical only too so you'd need to play maces or some shit as well since all the monk shit tends to convert baseline.

oh, the flames of chayula shit is working alright though, its basically like free little health/mana pots during fights. initially i thought the flames provided 7% leech, but it actually applies a leech affect to you of 7% of your max hp, 14% with the second node. so it works fine with spells + also the increased chaos damage from purple flames.

Bosses track to a certain point and then get locked into the animation, if you're close you can get behind them with the roll cause it has like almost no penalty for changing direction (seriously you can do 180s mid roll its really weird)

That said with this kind of attack being further away seems easier i think cause it shoots forward out of the mace

Flaming skulls passive with flame wall does insane damage for no mana cost at all so I can just spam it forever. The AOE build I made is now useless because these skulls are just better and it's not even for my class.

Unironically what the fuck were they thinking with the "melee" in this game. Every single normie who flocked to try this out picked Warrior, because most gamers want to hit shit satisfyingly with a weapon and it was literally the only actual melee class on offer (monk is fake melee).

....and it's utter garbage. Literally the worst combat/attacks/whatever I've played in a game for a long time. It's like they went out of their way to make sure the attacks were as shit as absolutely possible. Even just the way you swing the clubs, it's like a shitty thin arc right infront of you instead of nice wide swings that could hit a bunch of enemies nicely.

It's all weird straight infront of you small range bouncy dogshit. Sure it ends up getting some damage when you turn the game into Bejeweled by popping all the glowing topaz I mean boneshattering the orbed enemies, but it's so fucking BORING and clunky and unsatisfying to play. You feel like even when you're winning that you're winning poorly.

Straight up bargain bin franchise tie in games have better combat than this. The fucking spongebob smash clone has better combat. The Soprano's game for PS2 has better combat.
This shit is an absolute joke, the second you try out sorc or witch, immediately from the first zone you can tell just how much fucking better ranged is.

This game sold like 2 million copies at 30 bucks a pop minimum, nevermind how many went above that price.

I barely managed because Monk has some ranged stuff, but I can't imagine doing that on a pure melee build or a minion build without being way overgeared for it

This game I think has fucked itself. They had all this hype and momentum leading up to it just from years of word of mouth and baited breaths and delay after delay and 2 conferences.

There's no fucking way all the people who showed up for this show up for the full release.
Go on, you tell those people they have to replay act 1 > 3 again to get to the new gripping conclusion to the story that sends them to the atlas with sanctum and ultimatum and shit again. It aint happening.

GGG got million people for this EA, but I think if they waited and unleashed a real fully complete game for the full release without spoiling it and not so much media saturation (we literally knew every boss in act 1 - 3 before even getting to play it) I think they could've legitimately got like 10+ million Wukong/ER numbers.
They cashed out early and it's going to fuck them in the long run.

You're not, the standard combo is powerful even in maps. Armourbreaking is kinda useless for Warrior until you get later level skills that get bonuses if you hit someone with broken armor.

Armorbreaking as a mechanic doesn't make much sense for slow hard-hitting class anyway, since the whole point of Armor is that it trivializes small attacks but big attacks go right through. PoE Armor has the same logic that Mount & Blade Armors do. When you finally get a full plate on top of you, looters throwing rocks at you do 0 damage.

Lack of good early game single target options, the basic melee attack is decent single target if you put support gems in it, so use that until you get something like Perfect Strike.

Other than that the basic warrior combo from the very beginning goes: Stun skill + Finisher skill= Mob clearing combo. So the whole point of Rolling Slam is not to do massive damage, it causes monsters to stun or have yellow orbs on their heads. Then you use Boneshatter on those yellow orbs to cause massive damage in a small AoE.

And just spamming 1 skill is not an option if you want to do actual damage. You either use the skill combos as intended or you go to PoE forums or subreddit to whine how the game is unfair.

In the endgame trailer from a few weeks ago, Jonathan says "One of the things we think is really important is to make these options available to use as you play. All the items that add mods are much more common than they were in Path of Exile one, so that you can use them throughout your campaign playthrough. We want you to find things on the ground that can be crafted into upgrades much more frequently, as well as making the drop rates on these items much more common.". I'm in act3 and Ive gotten five exalts, four alcs, seven regals, and two essences, is that what he considers common? I haven't been able to craft a white item into a usable rare during my whole 20h play time.

edit: i had two raw regals drop for me. i got five from disenchanting rares.

Make sure you grab infernal cry asap, really ups your dmg most people miss this.
Infernal cry + Any big hit (EQ or Perfect Strike) will ignite bosses and melt them.

Also buy a 2h from the vendor when you reach town, 1h + Shield is really bad.

I think the point of Armor-breaking is for co-op tanky melee builds where the 1H+Shield Warrior plays with some ranged class with faster hitting abilities. Mercenary bolts suddenly start hitting like a truck if monster has no armor.

Lot of people miss that if you disenchant unidentified Rares, you get Regal shards instead of Exalt shards. So Hooded One/Sin giving free loot identification is actually bit of a trap that makes people lose a lot of Regal Orbs they would get from disenchanting. Don't identify rares you're not going to use, disenchant them Unidentified. Regal Orbs are better than Exalts in early game because you're starving for yellow gear.

I always liked to do off-class builds in PoE, it never was great but it was an option. It feels a bit more railroaded in class design now. Also might have been nice to have free respecs for a while to fuck around and try out different shit, especially as things get changed on the daily.

Mechanically it's dogshit.

All the melee attacks have a pointless pre swing fluff thing where your character goes "hyaaaah" and then does the swing. When the wing connects it can't just loop back into the next swing, it has to like return to this kinda rested position to then do the next swing.

The skills all have this slow as shit buildup and the actual hit is like rubber.

Mechanically your hitbox is bad as are most monster hitboxes and attacks often don't match their visual. You move slow attack slow get gangbaned and the entire playstyle is actually more of a mmo tank character where you have to just accept that you're going to just get beat the fuck up while attacking and need to have alot of hp and armour to mitigate it.
This ends up just feeling unfun to someone that enjoys melee in normal action games because the point is to feel skillfull hitting and not getting hit. Here when you win, you will like you're winning poorly.

Swapping to a ranged character you feel more skillfull because you feel like you're targeting mobs with precision and executing htem and avoiding hits. Melee all your attacks either hit anonymous point on the ground, or slowly wifflebat at an enemy.

tl;dr it's just unfun as shit from a design principle and the only hope melee has is to start again properly on the remaining classes and just leave warrior/maces as the shitty tank playstyle where you're slow and just have to trade with everything.

I wish I had a Game that had PoE2s graphics, sound and art design, boss fights and WASD movement with PoE1 gameplay and loot, and I am sad that it will probably never happen.

And I think that is something a lot of poe enjoyers are having to deal with. Its fine that PoE2 is a different game that tries to appeal to a different audience but it still feels like I was hoping for a bicycle for christmas only to receive a unicycle instead.

I am also kinda afraid that GGG will slowly reduce their support for PoE1, we already lost two leagues this year and have gotten quite a bit less content for a few leagues (Settlers being the exception).

It hurts being said "Well this Game is not for you then" regarding PoE2, because I so desperately want it to be. As if my long and enthusiastic support for poe does not count for anything.

But even if I kinda enjoy my first playthrough I just cannot see myself logging in each league to slog through 25+ hours of campaign with each character. The campaign was already the part of PoE1 I enjoyed the least and its gotten tripled in PoE2.

Idk just a bit of an aimless rant. Hope PoE2 will change my mind in the future.

The boss is bugged, there is no tankiness that can save you. Easiest way to dodge roll his attacks is to stay close to him. But the problem is he also has this rolling dash move that can also instakill you because its hitbox is fucked. Its the PoE 3.0 Super-Rats and Elden Ring 1.0 Blood dogs all over again.

You could more directly cut across the tree in poe1, including through the middle. In poe2 you have to take quite long paths around shit.

weapon swap passive points just use regular passive points. it just allows you to split your points, so you can get 5 1H passives and 5 2H passives and only use 5 passive points for example, just dependent on what weapon set you assigned the points to
