Holy shit, I thought people were memeing, but no, whoever made act 2 maps is just mentally ill. These things are literally 2-3x too long, and just repeat the same fucking thing over and over again. And holy shit the enemies are just designed to be annoying. Beetles swarming out of the fucking walls in tiny ass rooms in the dozens so you die because lol no phasing, mobs that keep teleporting around like schizos, these fucking birds that jump 10 miles on you no matter where you are. It's not even the balance, or the loot, or the mechanics, I'm clearing more or less fine, but everything seems like it was designed to piss me the fuck off.

They somehow made the entire gem system way less exciting and satisfactory
Lets not even go into the flask system which thet gutted
They removed exceptional gems, alt qual gems/transfigured gems, awakened gems, and made support gems only have 1 level
The only exciting thing about the gem system left are the quality and rarity of gcps.
Having multiple 6 links doesnt even matter when anything automated requires a fuckload of spirit and you are forced to buttonmash anyways.
I thought new gem system was something i was going to like but nope, its just another dumbed downed and guardrailed system inferior to PoE 1s version

PoE 1 campaign is 10 hours if you’re a newbie. With practice most people can get to 4 hour reliably without having to practice ever again.

it wasnt like that when a5 was brand new content. im talking about the overall boss design without taking years of powercreep into the account. high templar avarius into innocence is objectively a badass act tier boss fight on par with the other two i listed. innocence and kitava are about the only things that i liked from post malachai campaign, but they brutally mog poe2 boss encounters in my opinion.

The campaign only takes that long the first time. After your first run through you just use a leveling guide for your ascendancy and you zoom through it.
POE1's campaign is the same as 2's: the first attempt can take days but if you're a returning player it takes a day and a half and experienced POErs will get to maps by the end of launch day.

Believe it or not this is good. When you're blitzing the campaign as fast as you can, you're making all the same item decisions you are right now (check items at vendors, craft gear in minor ways, oh is this an upgrade is that an upgrade) but you make them at 10x the speed. It's like a little mini league within a league. Unironically getting hyped because you got an act 1 alchemy and now you're blasting for a while is great. I find this WAY more fun than D4's start-game-and-AFK-in-helltides-for-12-hours leveling

So you need to cast 10 spells within 13 seconds to really maximize the value of this. But it lets you do it for free with no spirit. I can see a build around it but idk if it would be any good. There arent really any super fast skills in poe 2 from what i saw

Literally the only problem the game has is the crafting system. These orbs in conjunction with the trash mods were designed for a probabilistic success through cumulative tries system. Now they forced it on this and you spend your only two in the last 30 mins on your weapon and you slam +15 accuracy. And then you don't progress dps wise and your next act is pain.
They managed to shift the gem upgrade system to a more deterministic version I don't see why they couldn't do it with gear. Maybe some way to raise the tier of mods, I mean they copied the mapping from LE why didn't they do the crafting as well.
Idk I feel like they dread powercreep so much that they ruined their itemization.

I did a swap from minions to cold damage at around level 40 i believe, ended costing me about that much in total. Couldnt respec all at once, had to suffer through a lot of hours with low dps. But every respec i did massively increased my damage. I didnt even have any support gems, it was all cold gems zero supports. But the progression was quite fast and fun from that low point
I dont blame you though for not wanting to do it and just quitting. Game is quite the slog
Still havent found any good sanctum skills as sorc. Even CoF freeze does poorly there

The problem is that you suck at crafting, mate. There is a very small pool of mods, and you only need 2 relevant mods to make a good weapon for the campaign. Weapon-based classes have it easy because you can just look for ANY weapon with flat phys damage. The iron runes provide the %phys damage so you just need the flat.

The most common retort at the time was ”we havent seen endgame yet” and ”GGG always slows down their gameplay to show off skills”. Yet nobody is saying anything until the game is released? The build only really works once you hit cruel difficulty and get your level 12 gems, because for some reason GGG thought it was a good idea to make 80% of your damage come from a skill that is locked until cruel difficulty
I don't get how this game is balanced, I went from taking 5+ minutes to beating bosses to literally melting them just by slotting in this one skill into my existing build

It's literally just taking as many projectile damage and lightning damage/shock chance nodes you can take. Electrocute hasn't worked for me yet but I'll have to see if there's a better way of applying it once I hit endgame.

Either this is true or my alt is a million times better than the first one I rolled. First one was a poison ranger and it was trash, second one is lightning and a cold-based and is just deleting everything. But maybe the mobs just got nerfed.

Actually what they should have done is add Tujen to the game and let people gamble for currency with gold. Obviously heavilt nerfed Tujen but that’d make much more sense than the bullshit we have now where you rely on RNG to get good orb slams or a vendor drop

I think its over for me for a few months. It's not interesting to play with so many key arpg principles being arrogantly violated. I'm pissed off cause the previews have showed pretty much classic enjoyable aarpg gameplay and I expected to play it a lot and for the long time.
No arpg should be so poor on the loot and tuning is in dire state as well. There are few cookie cutter builds that feel themselves good in this environment, but the power median of the builds is way below the tuning of the content.

Heres my guess what happened. Since 3.15 they basically split the team up and invested heavy in Poo2 with mark and jonathon at the helm and Chris at PoE 1 (before he left). Now im assuming someone else is in charge of poe 1 he rather remain anonymous (btw every league since affliction was a banger and i like sanctum aswell even tho many dont so i like this new person in charge, if it isnt Chris which i doubt)

Anyways jonathan and mark probably told everyone to disconnect from poe 1 as to not ruin their vision with poe 1 stuff so that they can make a unique game without being influenced by poe 1. Thats why neither have any clue how good poe 1 has been and what a slap in the face poe 2 feel like

I'm confused..
I'm playing hardcore and my first character was Sorceress, I reached level 14 before dying, then I tried Witch, died at level 5, then again, died, and now Mercenary, gave him really good items and died at level 5 again against Aghiest hut mini-boss.

I basically die in one hit to these attacks that did land on me, I'm starting to get the idea that putting passive points in armor/evasion/energy shield is a good idea? It's what I did on my first character but for subsequent characters I went spell damage / minion damage and attack speed stuff, but if one dies to OHKO, what good it is, right?

That Monk Killing Palm gameplay is such fucking ass. Whoever thought that it was good to completely interrupt your flow to stop and 'execute' single enemies with this skill to gain charges needs to be shot.
The number of times I've almost died because I had to stop tearing into enemies to execute that Killing Palm shit is infuriating. It doesn't feel good to use, it ruins the rotation you have going and yet I really really REALLY want those charges because Charged Staff feels so fucking good once it's online.
There needs to be a better way to generate charges that doesn't stop your rotation, seriously. Like gaining charges when you freeze/shock enemies or something.

If you play Monk, you know exactly what I'm saying is true. I'm not the first to complain about this shit, it's fucking awful, I just wanna use the charge skills ffs. They're the most fun but they're locked behind these awful charge generating methods.

Damage solves all of your problems, Damage is your best defensive layer. Damage allows you to run MF gear. Damage lets you dodge all boss attacks because you can just fire one skill and walk out of the way very fast.

PoE 1 actually had giant exclamation marks for each side quest. It was janky, but a much better way to show where you need to go.
>auras are solved with spirit
You can run twice as many passive buffs in PoE 1 and they are 10 times as powerful. Heralds are almost cosmetic.

No reactive way to mitigate damage at all. Want to get lightning res to tank some bullshit attack? Nope, the charm will get wasted on the first instance of lightning damage, no refills. And you only get ONE.

I have to say, none of the issues in PoE 1 were solved. Just flat out replaced with new badly designed trash.

there's no point to hardcore. there is NOTHING you can do and no defensive level you can ever reach where a random white pack can't one shot you. some enemies even have tracking orbs that bypass all defenses to instantly kill you if you get body blocked in them for 2 whole seconds. you WILL die to a cheap, completely unavoidable one shot at some point.

Good rares can last a long time. Good weapons need to be replaced every 10-15 levels. Bad weapons need to be replaced every couple levels.

Basically look through the vendors every level up to see if there's anything worth picking up, even if it's just like a high life roll that you can augment to see if you hit a res on it and then you can try regaling it. Look for anything that could be an upgrade for your build.

If you get high on gold you can roll a few gambles on a slot you'd like to upgrade.

If you find a good rare socket it and slap a rune on it.
Good physical attack weapons need 2 sockets with Iron Runes and 20% quality.

chrono bros what ascendancies are we using? i am currently using now and again on cold sorc and it is fucking nutty. levelling using frost wall and frost bomb/second wind for 3 charges/2 charges and i absolutely delete bosses.
for the next point i am thinking either apex of the moment for stacking slow (possibly with blasphemy tempo chains), unbound encore for the cooldown reset (i am thinking of maybe trying for a giga comet with hourglass/spell echo/second wind), or footprints in the sand as a defensive layer since i have heard temporal rift is quite good.
thoughts?

Temporal rift is extremely good. Pretty sure every chrono should take it. Apart from that I just have circular heartbeat, not sure if it's even good or not. 2 is literally just 1 without the decade of features and powercreep piled on top. Don't know why you would expect them to just hand you god powers before the game even releases. Yeah. Make sure to augment blues to have two mods before regaling them.

Crafting would usually refer to using currency items (the various orbs that you can use on items) in an attempt to make something usable. PoE1 has much more detailed crafting systems. Right now in PoE2 it seems to be mostly getting lucky.

You can add sockets to items with one of those currency items. Artificer's Orb was it? Body armors and attack weapons can have two. Helmet, shoes and gloves can have one. It's worth to do so on good items that you'll probably keep around for a while.

If you find a socketed item that's a good base for you then you can always try transmuting + augmenting it to see if you get anything. If it's trash then salvage it. If it's something good then regal it.

Weapons are the hardest to get right since having multiple damage mods increase your damage output massively. With other gear you can sort of make do with a couple good rolls.

If you go all in on minion nodes they sort of start being able to take a hit around late act 3. Before then you're forced to play raging spirits. Even after that raging spirits is massively better.

you play spark + flamewall with SRS
you can play frostbolts with manual cast coldsnap supported by spell cascade, but it doesn't feel too great
build only gets good when you get cast on freeze and then really pops off when you get comet

One thing I don't quite understand is when areas reset. Sometimes I can travel back and forth between areas (on foot rot through portals) without them resetting, but sometimes the map gets regenerated.

It's for really simple mechanical reasons.

I died like that around 5 times on a similar Warrior character, but can you even be mad? I wasn't. Fight and enemy design were cool. And it's not like I had to wonder wtf killed me, it was just a simple overhead slam. Had to learn to anticipate him and eventually raped him. And when I did, it felt great :)

I enjoy it, whether it gets better or not I guess depends what your preferences are and if GGG is going to bend to the will of the PoE1 players that want to make it more like PoE1
in the very least I expect the skill power to get balanced, there seems to be quite substantial power differences
half of the campaign, half of the classes and 2/3 of the ascendancies aren't in, a bunch of skills "coming soon" in the weapons that are actually out as well
I would say its quite likely the game is going to be better in 1.0, might be a different experience than now though
