On a related note, should I be using stuff like Armourer's Scraps/Essence of Enhancements/Orbs of Transmutation and Augmentation, or are they better off being saved until lategame? I'm new to PoE and ARPGs in general.

It's far easier to get a good rare in PoE2 than it was in D2. Yeah D2 had runewords but those were the only relatively easy to get items and only the ones that required common runes. 99.99% of what drops in D2 is garbage.

PoE1 conditioned players into the slot machine. I can see a lot of players having a problem with PoE2 because they based all their expectations on what they know from PoE1.

I grew to dislike the direction PoE1 took over the years but PoE2 loot feels a bit.. well the loot drops are fine it's the crafting that sucks and I don't even get enough exalts to try to get something good from crafting. You basically need a near-perfect two mod item that you then regal and exalt hoping it gets something beneficial to you.

An abundance of items is the best way to ensure a decent baseline for upgrades and throughout a character's progression. If you ever tailored a filter for an ssf build (you haven't, you suck) you'd know the only other way to accomplish this is to implement smart loot (they won't, they're bald)

Skill gem with combos tutorial videos built into the game are one of the best things GGG has ever added for new players.

My wife was scared to play because of the complexity (She's a D2R, D3, D4 player.) until I showed her the videos literally built into the game when you cut gems that tell you what things do and show you what combos together.

Obviously this is only one piece of the puzzle for a working build, but it allows people like my wife to actually start learning all the other pieces after jumping in.

Ultimatum would not work for me. Full cleared two of the 7 trial ones I found in maps (after failing like 2 or 3) and neither gave them to me. I failed 2 sanctums, then found a 3rd and did that. I honestly could have beaten it on my 2nd try but I got really, really unlucky at the very final stretch.

I've never played Diablo 4. I have countless hours in d2 and about 1k in PoE1.

That actually raises a good point about the itemization. The game is balanced such that if your weapon is garbage your time with the game will be garbage. The difference between a shit item and a good item is too big as it is in PoE1 but in PoE2 you can't effectively chase good items so you're stuck with the shit ones unless you get lucky or trade for them

I don't know if it's the same for casters but for attack builds the difference a good weapon makes is the difference between struggling with everything and facerolling everything. They should've toned back item power for this game to balance it properly so that getting unlucky with drops doesn't turn it into a miserable experience.

Act 3 and Act 3 Cruel have some vials you can select with no (current) option of altering them at a later date. Are there any particular standouts that should be considered? I like the 30% increased Elemental Ailment Threshold for the first one and the +10% Chaos resistance for the second, but the other 2 options in Act 3 Cruel seem solid compared to the choices in normal Act 3.

I honestly don't see the mirror tier builds of PoE2 looking much different from the gameplay we're currently seeing from the lvl ~70 players. Action speed multipliers have been deleted from the game, not a single unique that we've seen is remotely build enabling, and the only damage bonuses that are "uncapped" so to speak are stat stacking nodes and gems. The thing is that in PoE1 there were plenty of ways to get global flat damage/stat. You had synth bases, rep alberon's, HoWA, etc. In PoE2 if it isn't on the gem you're shit out of luck. The other thing that is really, really going to hurt high end builds is the passive tree. Sure, you can use gemling for a spell build but the tree is so dense that you're going to use 1/2 your skill points on pathing before you even see anything relevant to your build. That's to say nothing about how certified fun™ gems like cast on crit had their balls removed.
As a side note what the fuck is going on with these half baked chaos spells, why is this dogshit even in the game? Is the idea that you run around with minions while using ED/contagion?

It's really not fun in a state like this. There may be people who enjoy this Ruthless nature of the game, but I assume it's a small percentage. If GGG wants to keep the current playerbase, they need to do drastic changes to all of the mentioned points soon or I'll bet the majority will quit once they reach maps (if they even do, because campaign can be a pain at times, too.)

The boss fights in this game are so fucking awesome.
To everyone complaining about difficulty, why don't you just use one of the OP spells?
Asmongold can barely dodge stuff and he's skipped every boss mechanic with SRS, sometimes he skipped entire phases outright. Slam nerfed 60%- damn, so now it's gonna take 6 shots to kill the boss instead of 2, crazy. Gas grenade. Sparks melting bosses in 10 seconds.
Just use those and you no longer have to play the game (just like in POE1)

It's a complete dogshit cash grab, a half-finished copy paste of POE1 with every bad decision people bitched out of the beta tests for POE1 now featured front and center. It only has enough new content for an expansion pack, but the devs wanted to tune it to an extreme dogshit difficulty where no loot drops like in Ruthless and every boss is designed like a pinnacle boss that one shots you with every tell and goes invincible for a minute at a time. The player base universally hated every single one of these changes when GGG tried to shove them into POE1, so they made it its own game. Avoid.

the issue rn is most people don't know the meta so if you have a shit build, enemies will be super tanky.
another ""issue"" (but not really) is that because of the skill piano, dodge roll and increased emphasis on having to aim and move in different directions, the game plays better with a controller but diehard arpg nerds aren't ready to accept that.

for better and for worse, poe2 is not a click 2 nuke map fuck yeah go go go simulator. if you want that, you won't have fun till maybe the very end game. if you want something more methodical and with way more fun bosses, it's great, but still repetitive (typical for the genre), so it'll never be as good a souls game as something by fromsoft
