Morrigan had the clear lead in DAI due to all the Kieran stuff but as of DAV? Leliana is the winner by virtue of simply not appearing since "Morrigan" no longer has a son or husband. I won't defend Veilguard for much but I will say I feel like I'm putting a lot more thought in my skills, gear, companions and their gear, enemy types and their resistances compared to when I played Inquisition.
I'd still prefer to go back to something like Origins though.

I think explaining the intricacies of dwarven and elven lore was a mistake. It's way more interesting when kept mostly a mystery with a few hints. It reminds me of Assassin's Creed when the Ones That Came Before went from mysterious beings you see for two minutes at the end of the game to having full DLCs about them and it just killed the vibe

I think explaining some of the mysteries is alright as long as there's the build up and gravitas it should have but Veilguard just dumps all the info on you, every mystery of the franchise resolved and the characters don't even seem to care that much. It's so unsatisfying.

The tumblr fans can be extremely autistic, but it's exactly the right kind of autism that kept the fandom alive with theories, hype, and endless fanarts and fanfics over the years. It's also the kind of autism Bioware now hates the most, because those people are the ones that caught all the lore/writing discrepancies in VG and hate the game for it. At this point, those fans know the lore better than current Bioware does.

They said in the AMA that the ones met in the game represent the crows who are more on the idealistic end of the spectrum. Illario is named as someone who's more representative of what the crows are like in general.

The houses in the game still pick up orphans and train them to be assassins, and according to Lucanis the training for young crows is harsh, but from the sound of it nobody gets special treatment. Orphans who get adopted into the house are treated as much as family members as anyone else and are put through the same training.

Navarrans dress quite conservatively despite their culture of romance. Would that be reflected in more arabic wedding attire of veils and long flowing clothes or would they be more stripped down like the statue of the skeletons making out?
Speaking of what is the feeling of public display of affection there? Cassandra is easily embarrassed but romance poetry and sexy books are the norm?

I played Veilguard for 3 days on launch and completed act 1 and then dropped it completely. Still need to go back and finish it. I am thinking of skipping all the side quests, skip leveling up factions and their merchants, skip most companian questlines except the 2 I will take on the final mission.

It's even more bizarre that Lucanis is more upfront about his feelings for Neve. Meanwhile with Rook he's just a brick wall up until near the end of the game. I don't mind a slow burn relationship take Alistair or Gale from BG3. But here it's basically nonexistent between Rook and Lucanis.

In the Rook relationship it kind of fits Lucanis' workaholic attitude to be a bit non-responsive (especially when he feels he doesn't have much control of himself and has little experience in relationships) and I found he was more reactive after figuring things out with Spite. It would work on it's own though underwhelming but then everything with Neve from how upfront he is with her and how he doesn't hold Minrathous against her makes his relationship with Rook look worse.
It's a case where I'd wonder what the devs were thinking but I've seen a fair bit of people all but begging for party members to hook up with each other - I guess they just missed the memo that the PC should always feel like they come first.

Is he even? Before he was kidnapped he's implied to be just your run of the mill Crow, whose job is to finish their contracts whoever the target may be. After you rescue him, he's laser focused on killing Zara who happens to be a mage, and doesn't even kill her himself which makes having a title such as "magekiller" a bit of a stretch. "Revenger" would have been more accurate maybe. He doesn't have any sort of specific animosity towards mages that aren't Zara and has 0 dialogue if Rook is a mage. Compare this to DA2. Jesus with every BioWare game DA2 ages better and better.

That's the problem it's a case of telling and not showing. I guess the writers assumed players who were familiar enough with the lore. Would fill in the blanks. Because mages can be very dangerous as has been seen multiple times in the series. So having a non mage being able to take on figures brimming with such power seems rather astronomical. Still the execution was poor and not a lot is properly conveyed.

The issue is that the cost for making a game has become insane plus it takes about 5~ years now to make one. Games sell, that's not the issue. Spiderman 2 on PS was about 300 million dollars to make and you will never get that money back. No, it had already gotten all funky at least a year before the ritual in the prologue. World turning upside down, time and causality reversing, people meeting duplicates of themselves, relics activating at random, etc. Varric went through it in The Missing, and in the game both Harding and Veil Jumper Rook attest to how the place had gotten all weird before Solas did his thing.

I started playing BG3 after finishing DAV and the experience is like night and day. With Veilguard I could barely play it for more than an hour without getting deeply exhausted with the repetitive zones, area, dialogue, etc. I finished my playthrough at 55 hours after a month, and those were some grueling 55 hours. Now with BG3 I'm 50 hours in and I've basically been in a coma for the past week hooked up to my console. This is the first time in half a decade I manage to play a game for 12 hours a day. Veilguard really had me believing maybe that's it I'm too old for videogames and don't have the patience for them anymore. But no.

BW and EA really fumbled the bag on this one. I wonder how DAV would have gone down in a pre-BG3 world? Maybe the pretty graphics alone would have carried this one to GOTY. They did spend a lot of money on those hair physics.

It's not a bad thing really, since BG3 reignited the URGE for RPGs of this type. The thing is, Bioware forgot how to make good games, and released a piece of crap which even the most hardcore fans refuse to defend. I legit think they shouldn't have done it, for it did much harm than good for the series. But I also understand that they don't want to lose their jobs. Even if toxic positivity can carry them only this far.

If I still cared about the franchise after Veilguard I'd be happy he's dead since he became so overused. I liked him in 2 but felt he was unnecessary in Inquisition but he was still at least better than Sera and others

The sanitisation was definitely mandated from somewhere up top. Maybe this is Wilson proving to Disney that he can make games that fit Disney's exact animation style as well as storytelling brand. It's very strange that they didn't simply ax this game after 10 years of wasting money, a massive brain drain as well as three reboots. Again, EA has culled studios for less. BioWare is their only studio that makes non-sport games that they could have used to make something for Disney. It also explains the extremely cooked reviews and scores that must have cost them a pretty penny for a mediocre game.
