In countries that have both Go and their own version of chess (China/Japan), games like Xiangqi and Shogi have a lot more players because the strategy of the game is more direct with lots of tactical attacking games.
As far as the oriental games are concerned, Go certainly has the largest sphere of influence, perhaps due to the fact that a westerner does not need to learn the traditional characters on the pieces like they would in Xiangqi and Shogi. Go is very nuanced and abstract but may be considered to be more accessible than the other oriental games.
It may be for the best for us to consider learning more about these oriental games if our beloved chess will continue being the domain of the most despicable barbarous savages the world has ever known.
