Obviously I can't prove it, but I have suspicion that they intended the save-a-city dilemma to be more of a fork in the story. So whichever city was blighted would become the backdrop for the endgame.

So, the feminquisitor is pretty much Solas's soul mate. That's cute. Much like the femWarden HOF being Alistair's/Zevran, same with Hawke. I honestly don't get this same vibe with Rook since they refuse to let us connect with that character and with the world.

Wait since when was Dreadwolf going to have the Inquisitor be the MC? It makes sense to have pulled a Mass Effect considering the plot of hunting Solas but I was under the impression that the Inquisitor was always planned to be an advisor at most.

I think Epler said they thought about making the Inquisitor the main character again very early into Joplin development, then changed their minds. The Inqui still would have had a big role, though, acting as Rook's boss and assigning missions.

Fair enough, if I remember correctly. DAO shifted towards that veign because Bioware could only do so much in the original Baldur's Gate games under TSR's watchful eye.

I get the critique but I find it kind of ironic that even in BG3, a game set in the Forgotten Realms. I felt there was a better sense of worldbuilding and tone than what Veilguard delievered. Sure it was over the top but to me it came off more consistent and I felt the stakes. Where as in Veilguard it comes off as rather juvenile for a lack of a better word.

EA made them ruin DA2 and the series lost its identity. Inquisition overcompensated for the limited scope and lack of player impact of 2 by going into Marvel movie territory, VG just cemented its worst aspects. Along the way the dark fantasy tone of Origins was lost, in part due to tumblrification of the fanbase. Plus, the original creators gradually left.

Yeah, a lot of things people complain about were already in DAI and VG just made them worse.
People already complained about how much lighter Inquisition was compared to Origins. Even the way the dark stuff exists but it's never on screen and is kept in notes and codex entries.
The Inquisitor also couldn't really be evil or even all that rude and Rook just takes it even further.
Even the Taash non-binary scene with her mom is just another "how to accept my gay son" episode like Dorian's quest.

So can you guys please help me decide the better romance for my Rook?
I will rp as a former Qunari slave mage, who starts out being kind of a not so serious dickhead, sarcastic and rushing head-first into dangerous situations, being angry when possible (I know it's kind of not in this game, but I'll try to rp as best I can), but over the course of the game I want him to become more strategic, more serious.
So who would fit him as a romance choice, Neve or Bellara? I'm guessing Neve as she would make him more grounded with her cynical nature, but I could also see Bellara being the beauty that soothes the beast's anger kind of thing.
What do you think? If anything else, whose romance is more interesting?
I at first thought that I'll pick Neve for sure, but I got kinda tired of picking the same romance every game, Morrigan, Isabela, Cassandra, women that push you away at first only to then melt away for you, it kinda gets repetive a little, so I looked for maybe a Bellara romance, but I don't know if she fits my character's theme arc...

I don't really like the environments in and of themselves but I gotta hand it to whoever designed the maps as far as hiding the secrets and stuff. I thought the exploration aspect was actually challenging. There are so many things that are extremely easy to miss and by my count they really did put treasure behind every waterfall.

Gaider had a whole doc containing the lore of the series and he shared the majority of it during DAI's development. His tweets made it sound like he was kind of forced to do this by the other devs and writers - they probably feared to lose important info should he ever leave... in the end, he did share his "black codex" while still keeping an eye on every line and codex entry, but Weekes and Epler just decided to shit on it during Veilguard, revealing every major information with little hype and zero consequences.

It's obvious to want that now that we see what has happened with the series, Gaider for all his faults was very good at capturing medieval-fantasy setting, with a high reliance on Chantry's role in this world, and now we've got Weekes, who doesn't care about history, just about Marvel-shit. So on one hand - yeah, a lot of people would want Gaider to come back.
On the other hand - Gaider himself admits that he wrote all that he had to give to the franchise, he had nothing else new he could say, and you can REALLY tell in those Inquisition epilogues:

Gaider clearly wasn't at his best game towards the end of the Inquisition, Corypheus was a joke of a villain, the finale felt stale, and the epilogues offered nothing interesting as a hook for the future. In the end, it was HIS decision to move on from Dragon Age, on to Anthem, and then after a year on Anthem - from Bioware entirely. In his mind Inquisition was the best game they made and the TRUE Dragon Age he always intended, in his words. So I think he was prety happy moving on from there, being done with the series.
So I doubt Gaider would fix much. But yeah, the franchise definitely should not have been given over to Weekes and Epler, they did a good enough job on Tresspasser, but Veilguard is not what Dragon Age was at its core identity.

Gaider wasn't involved in Joplin AT ALL. He wasn't even involved in Tresspasser, apart from writing Dorian's dialogue (which got then cut by like a third or so). He moved on from the series right after Inquisition, to Anthem, and a year after - from Bioware entirely.

This game tried to turn you against Solas by all the companions being contradictory psychopaths when it comes to Solas despite being weirdly therpay-speak brained weirdos in every other scenario. What they should have done is shown Solas actually doing something extremely upsetting and devastating to give the player a legitimate reason for thinking he's unhinged instead of having the NPCs gaslight you into thinking so when they look at how Mythal abused him and say "but he could have just said no tho it's all his fault"

Arguably the situation in Veilguard is harder to argue because (if you played Trespasser) you know there are currently alive ancient elves and spirits that would benefit from the Veil being torn down and the world restored. They are part of the current world and suffering. In XIV the ancients are dead and waiting to come back. It's different but still not that hard to write around for a satisfyingly complex story for someone who isn't a goddamn QA tester with delusions of grandeur and fantasies punching a cartoon elf in the face.

He's the first companion you meet. And is generally considered a likeable goof. He has traits that plenty would find in a good friend. Alistair also has that charm to him in his witty banter. They probably noticed how many people wanted the Veil to fall and panicked, because "you simply can't do that". The Veil falling was actually implied to be Gaider's original plan - he wanted the series to end on a so "revolutionary" scale there would be little need to continue it because the world would be fundamentally changed, and "Fen'Harel's return" would be the first sign of that change. But Bioware decided a super blight erasing the south and focusing all their attention on some mystery dudes would be a better way to reboot the series :^)

From what I remember, he and Weekes were great buddies during DAI's development, with them working closely on Solas' expressions during his romance scenes, tweaking this and that so that everything would be perfect. They paid special attention to the romance scene in Trespasser, where Weekes gave him permission to go wild. And Epler did a good job! Solas kneeling and holding Lavellan's hand was his idea, so he must have liked him at some point. That, or he felt forced by the fans' expectations/was better guided by the team, I don't know.

Maybe working on Solas so much made him resent him or feel he was overrated, and once he became creative director all that power went to his head and he finally decided to let it all out.

Why would I want that in a game when I have to suffer it irl? Women are children in adult bodies and having any kind of interesting conversation with them is impossible. Like, they spend 3 of 8 work hours putting together birthday surprises for colleagues, or their own offices on their own ~40th birthday look like a 4yo celebrated in there. We know that he made an unnamed Evanuris go insane after making mirages and apparitions laugh at him for years. That was another cool "Fen'Harel fable", the kind Felassan told Briala. Weekes probably had fun writing his Fen'Harel persona again, since that's the mask Solas wears with Rook, but he had reconcile that mask with the real Solas we got in Inquisition + the crueler version we had in The Masked Empire before Gaider's intervention + Epler's need to make the players hate him. No wonder even Solas' writing feels all over the place.

I saw someone theorize that Solas and Felassan could have had some sort of pact to take action if one fell away from their cause. I didnt read Masked Empire so I only have a loose grasp on how both of them are characterized in it but the theory makes sense to me. So I do think that Weekes could, if he wanted to, come up with a creative way to reconcile the two.

Epler's words were just kinda lazy bullshit and I hate that it seems like it kinda worked with some players.

I like his sad desperation. The way his eyes droop a little bit. His amazing ability to commit. His ears are perfect. His respect and kindness towards spirits and inclination to help those in need. Yeah I've seen those posts. Mythal is definitely not handled well. Shes not unique in that respect but it's a big flip. And after the AMA it makes me wonder if theres a chance she was rightfully scorned and they just, you know, didn't allude to it in game or something. I mean this is a 15 year old franchise and Flemythal has been around through all of it.

Mostly though I have a big problem with people in positions of authority who want reverence but aren't accountable for themselves. I feel like if you called her out she would pull a "well i did the best i could at the time" excuse. Which is a shitty reason on it's own but more so in her circumstance because she was warned against it. And it makes me wonder how it would've worked out if she had joined the rebellion like he wanted her to and what her reason was for not.

My take away is that the companions are more interested in each other than Rook. Even Bellara who doesn't romance anyone seems far more invested in her friendship with Neve than her potential relationship with Rook. Meanwhile Morrigan and Leliana throw themselves at the Warden, everybody except Aveline and their sibling wants to fuck Hawke and the Inquisitor can be quite the flirt top which all of the companions respond positively unless you're the wrong gender for certain characters.

Rook just has no game.

Whether you consider it abuse or not there is a pretty clear power imbalance between them. Solas' devotion to Mythal is not equal to Mythal's feelings for Solas.

Solas is accountable for his own actions just as Mythal should be for hers. Personal individual responsibility matters, but in a hierarchy the person in charge with power is also accountable to and for those supporting under them. So yeah Solas knew better and should've said no. Mythal should've known best and headed his warnings and protests. Mythal shouldn't have raised herself as a god or put up with the other Evanuris doing the same. She allowed tyranny to flourish, thought herself above it, refused to seize on a chance to change, and got murdered for it. Which brings a desperate despondent Solas to a final solution, which he failed in making, which brings us to the Veil.

Flemeth was terrible to Morrigan. I've got the impression Weekes and the others put those lines in to satisfy every kind of fan. Solavellans can believe they never did it, and that theirs was just a really weird Important Person/Servant relationship (when she releases him from his duty, he looks like a child about to be scolded to be honest), and they gave them Bellara to confirm this theory; people who never romanced him can see them as a couple so his motives for doing what he's doing will make "better" sense, and they gave them Taash to confirm this; and people who never cared about him still won't care.

What really surprised me, though, is the focus Mythal got. Statues of hers everywhere, constantly simped over, depicted as a kind figure when even Morrigan admits she was prickly as fuck, very cold and haughty when you speak to her fragment... Her writing is also nonsensical and contradictory when compared to Solas' reasons in DAI, and you never get the chance to remind her she basically forced a spirit she warped into a demon into ruining the world by using the power and influence she had over him. Did Weekes really expect the Solavellans not to get mad?

Other people swear by it but I couldn't get into DoS2's combat - felt like me and the opponent were just trading cheese tactics and almost every fight turned into "the floor is lava". I kind of loved everything else though.

Wouldn't surprised me if he wanted to shit on them. They are a straight couple, people like Weekes hate those, and the fans have been bothering hm for 10 years about Solavellan.

So the series is pretty much over at this point, right? Everything has been explained, Solas can get his happy ending, Varric is dead, the south is gone, the Blight is forever changed and the Wardens not needed anymore, the elves will probably go through another Exalted March, and the dwarves will slowly reconnect with the Titans now that Orzammar is basically dead. They definitely want to change setting and focus on the Executor's continent and the Qunari, but who gives a shit? This game killed more fans than it gained them.
