Frankly Drive Reversal needs to be removed. It's useless on characters with a DP, and too strong on charactrers that don't. Those characters are designed to not have a reversal option for a reason. Or keep it, and nerf their offense. Man this game sucks

A theme I'm noticing with this patch is that a lot of incentives are being placed to use tools that aren't just crMK xx DRC/button xx DRC
>Pokes are being buffed to damage drive gauge more/build more drive on hit
>Strings like Ryu crMK xx fireball are true blockstrings
>Nerfs to reversals to make the situation favor the person being hit more, resetting to neutral
>Nerfs to belligerent pokes like Akuma front kick or Cammy crMP
>Fewer really ignorant techniques like instant EX divekick and jump cancel SPD, forcing you to interact more
My thoughts is that Capcom is testing the waters with these changes before pulling the trigger in season 3 and giving them even more reward for playing a game that isn't what we've typically seen in SF6 for the first couple of seasons and more like the end of SF5 where pressure was definitely strong, but good neutral was also rewarded for people who could play it
I'm really hopeful for the game bros, Dix is healing

They're right tho? Crmk fireball does not replace sliming for ryu in the slightest, in fact it helps him slime because it's something safe he can do to stall in neutral until his slime bar is back. Cammy is still going to button drive rush and the nerf was tiny and crmp is no where near useless. Did you miss the part where we've gotten 6 DLC characters that are all neutral skipping sliming frauds? There is no good momentum for this game at all.

It really is winning. During year 1, every time a pro would talk about jive vs sf6, they'd always compliment jive in a roundabout way and add the disclaimer that sf6 could only be compared to shitty launch jive since it is also only year 1 but maybe hopefully they patch it to get better like jive but I'm definitely not implying jive was good! To play devil's advocate, the way they "buffed" throw loops does not affect 99% of players. No one was consistently jump canceling specials, not at your level. I think only Gief could really pull it off easily and even then it's hard.
The only other way throw loops were "buffed" is if you are a Cammy main in which case get fucked bitch

People will say smash has a limitless ceiling because of the analog controls and this idea that you can move in a full 360 degrees of motion. The game doesn't actually play out that way since most attacks are just a big bubble of outbox and both players just throw attacks at each other hoping to make the other guy whiff. There isn't really any actual up close footsies in Ult like a real fighting game. Its about mid range and out reading their committal move. Its more like two men in that way. You use movement to decide when to actually engage, while making the other guy have to chase you and whiff.

The lower pushback makes it MUCH more rewarding when counterpoking. You're more consistently in range to follow up with st.mp on counter hit or st.lk.
There are still cases where hk tackle can miss but its much more consistent now on punish counter.
Paired with the lk tackle changes he gets more consistent routes with more corner carry, damage and meter.
Even good for pressure since meaty cr.mp, cr.mp, st.lk works now. Good off DR as well so he can actually get consistently good reward without spending all his meter.

Hmm well I have poor execution so it would take a hellofalot of time to git gud but nevertheless I find the challenge of learning a new game fun, comparing myself to others to find some sense of superiority (which will probably fail but who knows maybe I am talented at this game and I improve at a faster rate). That’s all I wanted to say I did buy the game though I haven’t bought AKI, I spent some time before learning Manon combos and that went pretty poorly, but nothing serious like 25 minutes, was two months ago. Looking forward to Tekkens LcQ next week though. Just blogposting nothing special, even though it may sound desperate.

I like how capcom is aware of how this game has way too much oki and side switches especially out of defense but to address it they just removed ex dp oki and side switch on two characters and left perfect parry, the biggest offender by far, untouched. I guess it's supposed to be a small patch but I still have 0 hope that they tone down perfect parry in 7 months. Everyone might just get bored and leave before then anyways. After that, lots of ways to get in easy or free also need to be gutted but that is asking way too much from current capcom. This game is doomed.

Every patch so far I wouldn't call good, moreso "the game is not getting WORSE"
They are making some good changes but the core issues with the game are still the biggest problems and they're ignoring them.

-Perfect Parry needs to be reworked (make it impossible to perfect parry normals, only specials should be perfect parryable)
-Drive rush needs to be easier to check in neutral
-Drive rush needs to NOT EAT YOUR FUCKING INPUTS
-Drive meter should not regenerate if an advancing projectile is on the screen (can't say any projectile because it would majorly fuck over JP's portals, but characters like guile just completely ignore burnout and that's aids)

It's great that they nerfed Cammy and Ed and Akuma, but they mostly just abused the drive mechanics and these are still the biggest issues with the game

Ryu's bHK was already completely broken, it's one of the easiest buttons in the entire game to confirm into since it's two hits and can even be late canceled, and if you go into heavy DP SA3 it does 50%. so basically it's a babymode way to get guaranteed 50% at any point and it's amazing at catching delays.

Modern let’s that chun li playwr do her stance shit with simple presses, easier charge, combo routes or automatic. But that modern player also listens to daigo and other jap streamers who tell them to do their best and try classic if they feel like it. Couple that with MR and ranks, SF6 has a nice feedback loop. The “leaders” in the west aren’t as compact and organized. That’s why I think six is doing well in Japan, the community heads are organized more “professionally”

There's no fucking way capcom is leaving Ryu's heavy donkey kick unpatched. I just alternated between the medium and heavy versions while draining their drive gauge further with parry bait hashos, and got them burnout in neutral. Opponent can't DI when you are spamming three different shit that do the same thing.

I dont fault the jap pros for doing their job.
Its just that their job isnt "playing well" but actually "promoting the game".
Same way I'm not upset at an advertisement telling me the product is great.

The older jp pros goal has always been for SF to be even bigger as a game and esport since SFIV. It isn't about making sure it sells well but spreading their enjoyment of SF while creating career opportunities for future players. I don't know if it affects their actual opinion of the end product but that's tertiary to their main focus.

It's similar over here but our pro players are more capital driven (and weird/less marketable).

This is a reminder that CS has been it's own competitive standard for decades while SF has had multiple iterations over that span. CS would have had sequels too if they sold like SF.

SF is a fun game, but it was never the perfect competitive game. If it was, we would all still be playing SF2 or SF3 or whatever your favorite is.
This probably stems from the fact that 2D fighting games are inherently less intuitive than FPS or MOBA.

Because the basic relationships of poke, counter-pokes and whiff punishes has been eradicated. You can be punished for trying to punish a DR on neutral, where in older games, if you were expecting an advance you could usually react and punish it. Perfect Parry also messes the usual risk x reward between getting a knockdown and earning the reward (semi-safe pressure). Literally everything in the game has become more volatile. Even the classic fireball interactions are no more, with PP into DR, or having to account for DI at midrange. Its just a lot to unpack here, but basically the game doesn't encourage and reward an elegant, precise, insightful footsies, instead is just DO THE THING! TURN GREEN AND GO FAST! PARRY THERE! I disagree that 6 is boring, because you can actually apply similar strategies to different opponents for the most part (with some exceptions like JP/Dhalsim) then you start playing the mental game a lot more which is the most satisfying part of FGs for me

Raw DR can be checked, and it often is at high levels. It's strong but there is counterplay and can get you killed if done carelessly.
DRC is a risk free, plus on block, combo-starting buffer. The game can never have any real neutral with it in the game.

The difference is that with SF5 they signaled they knew the game was shit and moved to correct it.
With SF6 they have ignored the western community's complaints entirely and not touched any of the game's problems.
Throwloops are an obvious problem and have been since launch. Since launch, they've only doubled downed on them harder. They just moved to nerf defensive tactics to make offense stronger, when extremely strong offense with little real counterplay is the game's largest problem.

The game will not get better, baring a fundamental shift in Capcom's priorities and plan for the game.

The only difference between launch sf6 and now is that JP can't win solely with OD amnesia, Luke doesn't shit out damage (although that probably just got reverted), and we got a few new characters that skip neutral with fireball drive rush, raw drive rush, or some retarded special move and most of them also have retard damage on their mixups

How are SF6 throw loop guesses educated? I could understand if this were SFV and you could manage risk vs. reward by picking and choosing what to defend against, knowing the oki situation that would follow, the damage you could take, when you could take your turn back, etc. In SF6, every knockdown is perfect and no defensive option is ever guaranteed. Taking the throw isn't viable, and even pressing a button after your opponent ends their pressure with a minus on block button puts you in position to get parried.
SFV's offense was built on educated guesses based on character specific knowledge. SF6 is a game that will constantly bail you out of nearly objectively stupid decisions so long as you get lucky. They're not comparable.

I thought this even before the buffs but Terry is one of the most ignorant character in neutral once he gets in. You can never escape or walk back out of his low pressure, he has easily spacable overheads, he has safe neutral skip to get in in the first place, he has easy answer to fireball...the only thing I found that works is to DI and pray which is not a playstyle I am comfortable with

This. In SF6 if you're good enough to qualify, you're good enough to win the tournament. Its pretty much random at that point, especially in FT2's. In Jive you could SEE the difference in skill level between players. Punk walked circles on lesser players, for instance, and it was consistently so. When Tokido made him cry at Evo finals, it wasn't random, it was the superior player winning.

The craziest thing is that SFV wasn't even good then. That was still all Season 2. The difference is that it wasn't nearly as fundamentally flawed as SF6 is. I feel bad for the people who still play 6 in hopes of the game getting better with time as SFV did when it's so clear Capcom is satisfied with the randomness as a core design principle.
