Should I play PQ2 after I'm done with the first game? Is it worth it? I never see English speakers talk about it so I looked into what japs have to say and most of the reviews seem negative but it's mostly them complaining about Door. I like Door but I don't really mind if he doesn't get much. I'm just wondering if it's worth besides lacking door in the game.

Well the other problem is that it was also much too P5-centric with its presentation, screentime, etc. In Q you could play P3 side or P4 side, but in P5 everything revolves around the PTs.

If you liked 5 you might like Q2, but overall it's worse than the first game and if you like 3 or 4 more then it sucks that they're put in the background
The main problem with Door that I could see is that he and Aigis are only unlocked halfway through the third dungeon, which is super late
I don't regret playing it or anything but it's definitely one of the weakest spinoffs, though if I was more of a 5 fan my opinion might've been different

I like all of the games 3 is my favorite but I still like the others with Q2 I was excited because I wanted to see more of the P3-5 cast interacting with each other and was left disappointed because non of the interactions were as good as the first one. A lot of the jokes are reused and new ones aren't as memorable or good. No group date cafe also sucks.

Im not a person who hates Kotone but my main gripe with her in the game is that most people were excited about her being in the game because of potential interactions with Door just for her to interact with the PT more and for her most notable interaction in the game being a handshake with him. The issue lies that they made her out as this big deal in pv's just for her character to be obnoxious instead of actually being a fun addition. (They even didn't include her in the final boss animation) She's wasted potential in the game.

I've just started the P4 route, I planned on doing the P3 route for NG+ where I plan on doing the superboss stuff.

PQ is pretty fun honestly. Besides the imbalance between magic and physical, the combat is pretty fun. I think on my 2nd playthrough with the P3 route, I'm going to avoid using Naoto. She kinda ruins the normal encounters. The fanservice stuff is very cute, even if it is just fluff.

You can do a lot more for the personas in Persona for skill transfer. P5 has the trait transfer and more. The party members in Nusona do have a lot of customization with items and the follower links to allow multiple routes for builds for them.

It's mostly smaller stuff between magic/physical/support to build characters around. Royal added a lot with certain skills in the jazz club. I'd much rather have party members being able to have their own personas made the same way as the velvet room than the archtype system as archtypes are limited to their base of what they are even with skill swapping which costs resources to do, making it hard to experiment.

I would argue the jazz club is even more limiting than archetype inheritance. Inheritance costs mag, but the jazz club costs time, which you can't get back. The jazz club skills are also offered a limited amount of times, some even once, on an unpredictable schedule. If you miss a skill or put it on the wrong party member, there's nothing you can do to fix it. If you put a skill on a party member and want to remove it, you also have to spend a day at the church, which is also a time waste that you can't recover. Archetype inheritance is much more forgiving for experimentation.

I think it's better. But for physical it means you can't get the whole package cheaper later on if you bought the OG release. And the Episode Aigis only focused on new content instead of adding stuff to the whole game overall for details and more like what Royal did.

When you inherit a skill, it's learned permanently by the character and can be equipped on any of their archetypes, as long as it has a slot available. Also, I'm at level 50 on hard, and I really have not needed to inherit a lot. Rather than inheriting, you're often better off unlocking new archetypes. Having proper resistances is usually more important than having the best skills. If I recall, what I've inherited throughout the game are:
Some magic spells so someone can stay on wizard and still hit wind/light/dark
Healing spells
Dekunda/Dekaja

You are really better off just switching to the archetype you learned for its skill, rather than paying again to get its skill on everything, at least until you get archetypes that you know you want for the rest of the game, like the royal ones.

I don't like how everything is mostly given to the player for everything for the base of an archtype. With personas, they can start out bad but be turned into something good. And passives are the only thing worth transferring unless you know a boss is weak to something outside healing. Since some stuff can be done with the OP multi user attacks. It's very limiting.

Agreed about the music. The music of P5 lacks variety. The non vocal tracks all sound like le jazzy elevator music. The battle music is fine, but Last Surprise has way too long of a preamble before the song actually gets going. Because you can navigate the menus so quickly in P5, you will hear the same 15 seconds of the song over and over again.

Yukari was always Door's 2nd most popular ship in the west. It's not just yukari Fuukoto and Ryomina also got a good boost in popularity because if the remake which is nice. I don't mind aikoto at all but it's nice to see other Door ships get attention.

P3 had this really eclectic soundtrack that borrowed from rock, pop, and hip hip music. I remember reading in that AMA that Shoji Meguro was going for a really futuristic sound that blended the genres. The point is P3's music was very unique.

P4 also has good music with a lot of variety, the overworld music changes based on the weather, They gave unique boss themes for Mitsuo and Namatame, etc. There was just a lot of variety in P4's OST even if it wasn't as experimental as P3 in terms of genre blending.

P5 sticks to its jazz theme a little too much. You get one variation of Beneath the Mask for rainy days, but the overworld music is largely the same from beginning to end. It was a nice change of pace for the music to change during the 3rd semester. P5's OST has some real gems ("Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There" or "I Believe") but a lot of it is kinda just muzak filler.

I def think that some of Meguro's best work came from this era. The music he did for the SMT games is great, but the Persona soundtracks he worked on had so much variety, it was genuinely impressive. In that same AMA he said that "Memories of You" is his magnum opus.

Yeah, for years shuyuka has been my favorite Door ship and it's nice that it's getting the attention it deserves. I'd say the one objective improvement it made from P4 was that it introduced full party control and balanced the game around it in a way that P3P didn't. Besides that, compared to previous or future entries, it offers nothing of true value. You play it if you just want more Persona or you are in love with being in a slice of life anime.

I agree with some of the points. The murder mystery is whatever, but I loved the part of the game where the green fog sets in. That was some kino atmosphere.

Kanji is the best and I liked Yosuke and Rise well enough, but for the game with the "best characters" the cast was kinda lacking. Yukiko is so fucking boring, Chie is kinda whatever, and Naoto is there to actually move the plot forward. Teddie is ok, not great, but not as bad as people say.

I did enjoy the atmosphere and vibe of Inaba though. It is just as much a character as any of the cast members, but I think alot of that is rooted in personal experience.

There are some big gameplay issues with P4. Merging all physical damage into one type was a bad decision. It makes it too easy to become god like. As soon as you fuse Rangda in P4 its over.

The general balancing was also pretty fucked. Physical skills are just giga broken in that game and magic is too costly to compete. The changes to the 1 more system were also pretty retarded. In P3, if you used a Ma- skill it had to hit each enemy for a weakness to give you a 1 more, if you missed even one enemy (or it wasn't hit for a weakness) then you wouldn't get the 1 more. In P4 you can just spam Ma- skills and as long as one enemy had their weakness hit you are given the extra turn.

Speaking of which, Hama and Mudo skills are buffed significantly from P3, they are essentially guaranteed kills if you hit a weakness. Dizzy is also a pretty stupid system and is much less punishing than P3 where you just straight up lose a turn.

In P4, the damage formula for weapons/basic attacks was changed significantly, to the point where they become near useless for damage. You can compare this with P3 where weapons hit like a truck, especially with the master passives. While direct commands were added to P4, there was no reason for the teammate AI to be so much worse than it's predecessor P3.

I think the best cast opinion comes from how the cast works well together as a group. But the biggest downside with the IT is that they’re lacking as individuals best cast depends on if you prefer something like sees where the cast is good as individuals or p4 where they bounce off well as a group.

I'm admittedly a P3 dickrider, but I like how there was more of a focus on the individual characters and their own bonds/dynamics within the group as opposed to the group being one big blob.

I agree there are things to like about both casts and ultimately the two games just took a different approach.

P5 is a mix of both in my opinion there is some characters who works well as individuals and some that works best in the group I like sojiro and I also like Ryuji and Ann like I like Junpei and Yukari when it comes to a trio. Yusuke is great too.
