In my first ever DAO playthrough back in 2010 I played a female mage and romanced Alistair. As I was completely clueless I did not harden him and told Morrigan to fuck off with her shady shit. He dumped me to fulfill his king duties, but at the final battle he refused to let me sacrifice myself, went against my orders and died to kill the archdemon. Absolute kino playthrough, 10/10

Yes. Likewise for Lucanis. I don't know what the writers were thinking. It wouldn't be so bad had they provided more chemistry between Rook and either of them. But whomever was in the writing room really seemed to like pairing Lucanis and Neve together.

It's the outfit. The same thing occurs with almost every character model. It's strange because when you max out the slider in the CC. They are still rather average in build. But once you put on clothes. It's like they don't form to the contour of the body correctly. It's like there's extra space in between. Making it appear much larger than it should be.

Because Neve has more content to her romance than Lucanis ever could. Lucanis has the least amount of content in his romance. His first kiss with Rook happens near the very end of the game. It also doesn't help he hardly has any moments with Rook in their interaction. And with what was cut. Plenty are pretty peeved about it.

You kiss Harding when the romance is locked in, nearly kiss Neve in that one scene and then make out with her when the lock in point hits, and almost go for a round two before you're interrupted, and Taash has that weirdass smelling scene, while with Bellara you don't even kiss when you go steady

Trespasser and VG would have never fucking happened. Because VG makes it so that all that was needed for him to stop was her command. So she wanted him to stop, knew how to do it and just, didn't.

And she should have apologized rather than what she did because that was the Flemeth shard of her that was tempered with compassion from living among mortals for eons. There was no reason for her to be as huge of a bitch to him as the fragment that he had locked away in the Crossroads. Them getting rid of the ancient elf/spirit faction that would have supported the Veil coming down is the absolute stupidest thing they could have done for the story and they did it just because they are fucking lazy and incompetent writers.

It's weird playing through the prologue and then coming back to meet the Veil Jumpers some 10 minutes after stopping Solas from doing his ritual. Somehow the elves from all over Thedas crossed into Tevinter all at once and kickstarted the Veil Jumpers in like a couple days. It reminds me of that Venture Bros episode where all the interns are sealed in a giant greenhouse for half a week, and then when people check back on them they've developed a whole religion with messianic prophecies and whatnot.

i'm not overly fond of a lot of the armor. i prefer simpler desgins. tbf i wasn't fond of a lot of the armor in the other games either. this time at least they gave us the option to change the appearance. bg3 had the same problem imo especially with mage robes. the edits modders have been making help though.

I'm glad it's not just me having issues. The timing of it feels so inconsistent and slow, and the window for iframes feels small. God help you if you press block a second too early, because then you'll get buttfucked by a group of Venatori knocking you around and staggering you so you can't press block again.

It especially sucks as rogue because you lose momentum upon getting hit and there are a lot of skills that grant bonuses upon successful parries. I ended up just biting the bullet and swallowing my pride and turning the timing down to forgiving to spare myself the frustration

Okay /dag/. Here it is. My confession is that when Inquisition first came out I had no idea companions weren't playersexual anymore so I made a qt3.14 male Lavellan to romance the shit out of Solas-sensei. By the time I found out he was hetero, it was already too late. So I romanced Dorian instead, which was nice but felt strange since judging by Bull I don't think Dorian is into twinks.

Anyway second time's the charm. I made a qt3.14 female Lavellan that was basically just a carbon copy of my previous blonde twink, and it was go time. In the span of 30 minutes, back in Haven, Blackwall's sad, punished old man puppy eyes momentarily seduce me so I flirt with him just once to throw him a bone. The next 60 hours I drag Solas everywhere and do my best to suck his ego off as much as possibly in hopes of getting his elven glory. Balcony scene ensues, and lo and behold, where is my Solas romance option? Something is seriously wrong.

I go online and find out there is a bug that if you flirt with Blackwall back at Haven you get permalocked out of committing to a romance with Solas 62 hours later. From that day I have hated that egg more than anything else in the world.

I've got the impressions the new devs did want the series as fans know it to be done and start fresh with a completely different setting. Everything in the game implies as much: all loose ends have been quickly tied up with little hype and no consequences, all the theories fans have discussed for a decade have been confirmed, the south was wiped clean, the Veil will never fall because it's tied to Solas' life (and that's why he doesn't die in any of the endings), Lavellan can get her happy ending, and Varric is dead.

I think EA gave them an ultimatum when it became clear the game was going nowhere after ten years: either cancel it and forget about the series, or make a very safe game that would at least lure in some new players and move some numbers to reset the franchise and start anew. Otherwise I can't explain this final result. Maybe Bioware really believed this game to be a masterpiece, I don't know. Weekes' writing style definitely sucks now and Epler is a massive liar, though, that's for sure.

EA is one of the main problems, no doubt about that, but Bioware is also a team of incompetent idiots. It wasn't EA that forced them to make Anthem, that was Bioware's idea because they wanted to replicate Destiny's success. Gaider left because the mismanagement inside the company had reached new highs; Casey Hudson of Bioware canceled Joplin to focus on Andromeda and Anthem, not EA; it was Bioware who fired Kirby and fifty other people, not EA.

If anything, EA has been uncharacteristically kind with them, funding this game time and time again and supporting them even after multiple disasters. I'd say they share the fault equally, but unless we get the old team back (Gaider, Darrah, Laidlaw, Kirby and all the old editors) we won't ever get another decent DA game.

I think he his blighted but he has control over it. Ghilan'nain has likely augmented herself with the blight but Elgar'nan seems more subtle eg skin tone is off, strange coloured eyes. They're both referred to as blighted by Solas as well. Both of them have likely been protected from the blight by the fact their archdemons live whilst the others have died off without the protection as the grey wardens have been killing the archdemons.

We don't know, but it probably was one of June's eluvians, either accidentally blighted or blighted on purpose to fight Fen'harel's rebels. I doubt it led to the Black City, because that place was supposed to be closed off from anything and anyone (and the gods would have used that mirror to escape). Maybe it led to some Blighted elven ruins or thaig. But when DAO was made, they weren't sure they would be able to continue the story with sequels, so maybe Gaider really hinted at the mirror accidentally leading to the Black City, who knows.

We already had that with Loghain in DAO, you could ditch Alistair and have him join you for the endgame.

I totally get what you mean, but it'd be hard to implement: Loghain's VA is so good, but also so peculiar, old fans immediately connects him to Loghain when they hear him. It would be like having Varric's VA, Dorian's VA or Josephine's VA play a new companion: extremely jarring, because their voices have been already "cast typed". So you either bring the characters they voiced back or give them just minor roles to appease the fans and give them crumbs.

I kinda miss the humanizing element she and Alexius brought to the Venatori. I mean in DAI the Venatori were unquestionably evil, literally the absolute worst, there was no arguing otherwise. Their pitch was a radical Tevinter restorationist agenda and totally unconstrained use of blood magic. But then it turns out their commander is a former slave and is in large part motivated by frustration with Tevinter's internal politics, classism and resistance to any sort of equitable reform. And in the case of Alexius, the top man in charge of dealing with southern mages, he's motivated by things other than a lust for power. Instead he wants the impossible, not wealth or status or a tutorial on an extra few blood magic tricks, he's someone who already has all of those things and has gone looking for nothing less than a miracle.

Nuances like that aren't really present in Veilguard's portrayal of the Venatori. There are a couple quests where you help one of their bottom ranking grunts leave the organization, but that's it. Everyone else is just evil and seem to have no motivation for anything they do beyond a general lust for power. So it's not making the player engage with the setting by thinking about the circumstances of these characters. Like how they're molded by the injustices they had to face, or how they're desperately struggling against the limits of what a magister's wealth and wisdom can achieve in the name of saving a loved one. They just want Elgar'nan to teach them party tricks or something. As a player engaging with the world, there's nothing to take in. There's just nothing there.

The Venatori in Inquisition felt like a real threat, because they were led by an ex-slave who felt betrayed by her country and wished to change it (Calpernia was a foil to Dorian if you think about it), by an ex-templar 100% betrayed by the Chantry (foil to Cullen, but also to all those Templars who became addicted to lyrium), and by a magister whose faith has been shattered ("Beg that I succeed, for I have seen the throne of the gods and it was empty"). Corypheus didn't really shine as a villain, but the game always made one thing clear: he really believed in the Venatori and in what he preached, because if he didn't, his life, death, and ungodly rebirth would make no sense. He's Leliana's dark foil.

Some of them are okay. Some nice characters and developments are introduced in them. In the case of Magekiller where the page is from, its story basically runs parallel to Inquisition and shows some events from a different angle, but I remember I had issues with its pacing. The characters stuck around for other series and grew on me over time.

The gods aren't particularly interesting in those either. Ghilan'nain still likes her halla, okay, cute. Elgar'nan has a soft spot for her and likes to spoil her, alright. Everything else is just them bragging about their powers or worrying about their ritual. We don't get any insight into how they fell so hard from grace or any interesting details about the other gods, except for the hatemail they shared with Solas, two lines about June crafting the eluvians, Sylaise building marvels, and Andruil supporting Ghilan'nain during her ascension, things we already knew/were implied before. We don't know how they acted in court, we don't know how their courts worked, we don't get any short retelling of a particularly important event, or even a note from a slave pointing out how different the gods became after meddling with the Blight.

The inspiration for them was Turks/Arabs who conquered great swathes of the vestigial Roman empire (Tevinter). Then you've got crusades/exalted marches declared and so on. There's definitely a lot of Orientalism present in their portrayal, they're very much conceived as an "other" meant to evoke existential dread in some capacity.

I think the Islam thing started because the Qun is shown fighting Tevinter and incapable of understand the ways of the South, two regions Roman coded in different ways: Tevinter as the Byzantine/decaying Roman Empire of the East, the South as a Roman Catholic reality where the Pope is a woman who can start crusades, and a woman as one of its holy figures. The Qun doesn't have gods, true, but their animosity towards these realities + very strict roles have led players to connect them to their idea of Islam, because Islam = that one religion that has never gotten along with the Roman Empire and the Catholic Church.

This is serious. BioWare releases used to be momentous occasions in the pop-cultural zeitgeist. Sure they weren't the most commercially successful titles, but they had a massive, outsized impact all across geek culture. As far as I remember, the Blight was never found in the Fade. Red lyrium, yes, which is Blighted lyrium, but pure, undiluted Blight? Never iirc. We know that spirits and demons in the Fade avoid the Black City and don't like talking about it, probably because the gods were slumbering there. I wonder if they will approach it now that it's empty or if the Blight is so bad even they won't touch it with a ten feet pole. The Blight is basically mad dreams made manifest and infecting every living being - maybe it can't affect other dreams/the world of dreams, but it will automatically seep outside the Veil to look for the nearest living organism?

In order for the dwarves to use magic, they need to be connected to the Titans. When Solas made the Titans tranquil he also took away the dwarves' ability to dream and use magic. I saved Treviso even though my rook was a shadowdragon, and thinking logically Minrathous has way more defense than treviso. The shadow dragons, Dorian, and Mav are also there so it annoyed me when Neve blamed my rook for the destruction of the town. If you had paid attention, you'd have realized it was never a matter of having enough defenses but that the Venatori who are in league with the Gods and their dragon, make up a major chunk of the government and its upper class and were going to use the ensuing chaos to seize complete control of the city and wouldn't do shit to help, while the Shadow Dragons who actually care about the citizenry get murdered by the dragon or purged by them if they survived
