I read up on that and, what do you know. Realistically, Hypnosis can, indeed, NOT force you into doing something you will against, so you can almost say the shitposters are right. ...emphasis in "almost", because there is a here's the kicker: In fiction, Hypnosis is commonly used as a tool for mind control that can force you to act against your will or even see things that are not there, which is factually false. The question becomes whether or not the writers here were working with Hypnosis using a realistic portrayal or the common fictional portrayal. Considering most works of fiction do use the fictional portrayal because it's actually more flexible and engaging than actual Hypnosis, it is safe to assume the writers did use the fictional portrayal... That said, based on evidence scattered throughout the franchise of Peach actively rejecting Bowser and only complying through the use of physical pain, direct and indirect (see the Mario Movie and Super Paper Mario), we can safely assume, realistically, if Peach were to be hypnotized, she'd STILL reject Bowser because it's deep-rooted in her will. ...Also let us not turn this into a shitshow, ignore the shitposters.

I personally kinda like it that way. Interestingly, the Par-3 courses also typically is based on a Mario setting more than a realistic setting as well, which is probably because their inclusion is to faciliate Pitch and Putt challenges. A couple of them are my favorite courses due to that.

>The Japanese script has major differences even though the main beats are the same. You would need to commission someone to get all of the different jokes and characterization moments. I'm definitely curious how many of the little character moments I disagreed with were purely Americanisms and were scrubbed out of the Japanese script. Peach dismissing Bowser's futile plea for a second chance with "Ew, no," for instance. That was a little too "generic Western girl character" of a line. I don't think that problem was nearly as prevalent as some people believe it was, but a few of her lines were off.

Dreams are the frustrations of the day and I had another Mario-themed dream that was a mishmash of a lot of nonsense I can somehow explain. Wont bore anyone with the details, but the essentials were>be playing a 3D Mario collectathon on the 3DS with extremely Kirby-like aesthetics which for some reason liked to alternate between Mario, Luigi and Timmy Turner as the playable characters >The theme of the game is paintings again, for some reason similar to ALBW >Specifically at 37 Stars you unlock a very cute/sinister Peach Painting of light pink and dark purple hues. Upon interacting, player gets sucked into the painting but doesnt enter the course, instead they get slammed against the wall and flattened cartoony style while the painting flips itself multiple times and eventually splits, showing a dark purple Peach graffiti on the wall and the painting being full pink. >Upon interacting with the painting, you do enter a course. The beginning is some kind of shabby kids theater with a huge grafitti Strikers-like grafitti on the wall of Peach cooking a scared-looking red mushroom. Peached looked joyful, but expression and artsyle made her look like a yandere instead. >The grafitti had a caption that said "UM, SWEATY; HE IS NOT THE GOAL" >couldnt read it very well, so I got closer, only for the caption to completely change and say something along the lines of "There's no such thing as disturbing content in this theater". >New caption was barely readable, so get closer still, only for the entire grafitti to disappear altogether and see multiple neon letters of different fonts and colors (some not even working) elaborating on the warning as some kind of parody while mismashing words that didnt make sense together.

Also about the sales, those don't matter because ML is a spiritual successor to Mario RPG in the first place, so they'll just churn out sequels to ML instead if they see there's an interest in the genre.

>>504787248 I personally loved it and thought it was a better Mario movie than the Sonic movies were Sonic movies, but I understand the criticisms, especially Luigi getting sidelined. With Sonic, I actually thought Sonic 1 was a little better than 2, despite 2 having way more actual Sonic stuff in it. Scenes like the Uptown Funk dance battle (something that literally already happened in one of the Chipmunks movies) and infamous 20-minute Bridezilla rampage really tanked it for me. Labyrinth Zone and the Death Egg Robot just couldn't save it. 1 at least had a strong heart in the story of Sonic's family coming together. It didn't pretend to be anything but a funny animal buddy cop movie. 2 went hard on Tyson flexing his demigod muscles to hang up some particularly juicy memberberries but the substance was just dross. Tails was as sidelined as Luigi was. At least Knuckles was good.
The Sonic OVA is still the best video game movie, I'll give you that.

A conversation in /ic/ led to a funny discovery I wanted to discuss here. Just what is wrong with Odyssey's Peach proportions again? Anon ran some checks and Peach is roughly the same in all character models, including the movie and Odyssey (if anything, Movie Peach is more slender). I ran my own checks and I think I see what the problem is: Peach in the Odyssey concepts is not only way taller than in game, but she is way more slender too, she has a taller waist and a taller neck which allows for better shape distribution. There's nothing wrong with in game's Odyssey model per se because it's pretty much the same Peach as she ever was, but when you compare it with the Odyssey concepts, you see what's "wrong".>tfw the most meaningful conversation I've ever had in /ic/ is about Peach Good fucking riddance...

Also, I took the time to check a different render (I think this is from the Sega games?) and fix a small mistake I made on the concept's waist (didnt acknowledge the belly button and enlarged her waist more than I was supposed to). This model retains the curves of the concept art while being a little less skinny, something like a middle ground. That said, she is shorter than the concept here, judging by head sizes.
Did we have an usable Peach render other than Odyssey's where she is showing enough curves to make a comparison? Cause I dont think it's right I use Sega's models for comparison here.

I want to see daisy, peach, rosalina, wario, waluigi, toadsworth, fawful, the mushroom aliens, the bean people, the funny bowser minions, the masiff bros.
What I wouldn't give for nintendo to make a mainline mario game that ties together the entire franchise into one universe.
I want to see the warioware gang interact with the delphinos from sunshine or something crazy like that. Nintendo just throws away any characters they have used previously for no reason and think they have to come up with a generic forgettable fotm new kingdom/people every single game.

>>504858786 they are allergic to making money. No doubt the american branch of nintendo has proposed something similar to this before but the japanese higher ups turn it down because it doesn't fit with the modern uber family-friendly branding they want to give the mario franchise. don't get me wrong, mario has always been family friendly, but recently from the changes the company has been going through makes it seem like they are really afraid to take any risks on making anything edgier or treading new ground with the Mario property. warioware and mario strikers, luigi's mansion, the paper mario games, etc etc.
the only thing that seemed new at first was the princess peach game, but from the looks if it they didn't explore her character at all and just made an incredibly easy ability sidescroller with nothing that nintendo hasn't done before in other games.

another fun idea is a co-op or singleplayer game with wario and waluigi where you go about causing mischief around the mushroom kingdom or similar kingdom/town, it doesn't even have to be that large. A game similar to a single level/area of goat simulator or bully where you are set loose on a some small but densely detailed map in which you go around pranking and generally causing chaos. maybe the twist of the game could be that at first there is no story and is just wario and waluigi causing trouble, but as you get further into the game and complete more pranks/quests a small plot forms, wario and waluigi come up against a villian who is actually malevolent and genuinely evil compared to their usual asshole tendencies, and the two anti-heros have to use their trickery to reluctantly save the city they have been messing with. Maybe like a mob-boss tycoonist or something, and you have to go around defacing and vandalizing evil robots, cars, and posters in order to drive the bad guy out of the city. like the cogs from toon town. actually this sounds very similar to toon-town now that I type it out... still would be great.

Mario & Luigi Brothership developer interview gave some interesting insight into the game's development.>Nintendo never thought the series was dead >beta Connie art implies the people of Concordia were going to be more plant-like >originally you were going to literally connect the shattered islands together, but concerns on the power of the hardware led them to scrap that idea in favor for ropes, bonds, or cords to tie them instead >with the theme of bonds becoming more prevalent, electric plugs and cords came about as a natural theme to tie everything together (plugs and sockets for the new battle mechanics, the Concordians becoming electric plug people, rainbow bridges being scrapped in favor of electric cords as the symbol of connecting islands since that was a better way of showing the overarching theme of bonds and connections, etc.) >they also got inspired to try out something new for the music

Finished Land 4 on Hard Mode and I can confidently say it's most favorite GBA title aside from Metroid Zero Mission. S-Hard is going to kick my ass and I'm all for it. I know it's kind of cliche at this point, but this game has something magical to it that I really wished the Mario games had. The Wario Land games have some drive that makes them so distinct, tasteful and full of personality, while Mario games are mostly bland and lack flavor. I keep thinking on how you could make Mario's character stand out a lot more and I see why people tend to like Wario better. When I want Mario games to be a little more, or at least more distinct than what we've had, I don't mean I want Mario to be more like Zelda, I want Mario to be more like Wario. But when you say things like this you're somehow looking at a completely different franchise?? Come on...

On that subject, even if I had the capabilities to waste money on one of those, I totally wouldn't. Outside of the aspect of it being pretty much worthless in retrospective, why would I want to wake up to the sound of Nintendo music when that would ultimately cause irreversible damage to the music for me?
I don't know if this is a me problem, but I'm personally not good with alarm sounds. Back in the day I used my DSi as an alarm clock and since day 1 I developed a flight reaction to the sound it makes. Same goes for the alarm ring of my phone, everytime I hear it ring I get this dreadful feeling even when it doesn't come from my own phone.

Look at the reveal trailer for Brothership, everyone instantly knew it was M&L from the visual style despite it being fully in 3D, that's impressive.

Was casually reading the Mario Wiki entry for Starlow while playing Brothership:
https://www.mariowiki.com/Starlow It only just now occurred to me that in most other languages including the OG Japanese, her name is some variant of イエロースター (Yellow Star) and Starlow was just a simple English portmanteau of this. IT'S BEEN FIFTEEN YEARS (15) AND ONLY NOW DID I GRASP THIS. I always thought it was just a funny nonsense suffix NOA added. Please laugh at my actual autism and basic inability to comprehend anything but the most literal of ideations.
