I'm still not sure that's fully his responsibility. EA owns the studio and as the general manager his mandate would be to make sure the studio delivered what was asked for. This also followed MEA's widely panned and commercially disappointing release, so that might have added some pressure on the studio to show that they were prioritizing what EA wanted them to.

I'd have to assume it's the writers who predominate these projects must find it hysterical. I remember back in the day I used to like that style of humor when it was new and used very sparringly. Because it was more often the exception and at least then, writers were more clever about it. But that's not saying much.

Honestly I can adapt to a sci-fi setting if the good writing and lore and worldbuilding of Dragon Age was there. I feel like Mary Kirby and Lukas Kristjanson are the reason I care about Dragon Age. I spent hours and hours reading the codex entries. The way they are written is just unprecedented imo. The way everything made the World of Thedas feel real is the reason why anyone still gives a fuck about Dragon Age in current day. It is not because of any one character or storyline. It's because of the craft of building the lore up and making people interested in it. The fact that everything is offered diagetically and from the unreliable narrators of in-game characters who belong to in-game factions that have in-game biases that you understand because of all the other worldbuilding so you never know what is exactly true or not. Dragon Age is so fucking beautifully crafted. Can you name another game series like it? Genuinely, I would like to know. Since this is over now.

Yes, I completely agree. The way the lore is delivered, all from flawed in universe sources is the best part of the world building and also the reason there was so many theory crafting and autists around it. Also, I would argue dragon age gave us good, well built (in the psychological sense) characters in the form of many of the companions. I can listen to DA2 and DAI banter and feel entertained in a non mindless way.

No, it doesn't exist as far as I know, there's just nothing like it. I think CDPR are genuinely good writers that can make you feel immersed (I loved cyberpunk in universe slang for example) but they work with more pre defined protagonists, at least so far. Larian are good at being reactive but their writing and lore are kinda subpar. Disco Elysium is incredibly well written but it's mostly a choose your own adventure book and its dev story it's even sadder than veilguard. Owlcat has been doing Pathfinder games, they do try but the setting is dogshit, maybe if they can build something of their own. I don't know.

It's true. The banter of characters up until VG is just as important in building the world as anything else. The characters are actual characters in the World of Thedas and from whatever they say you can pinpoint what perspective they are coming from because it has been explained to you in the lore and you're already immersed in the world so you get where they are coming from. In Veilguard they really feel like they have no idea what Dragon Age is and all the character's perspectives are basically coming from the same place. It feels like someone who is writing to what they want the player to think instead of writing to what the characters would realistically be thinking within the setting and letting the player interpret and interpolate, which is what all the other games have done. Everyone who made VG is fucking stupid I fucking hate them I would tell it to their faces I can't wait for the Reddit AMA it's just going to be them sucking themselves off for the piece of shit they gave us. They took such an amazing franchise and world and so much lore and turned it into absolute fucking garbage. And they will get on Reddit and be proud of it.

Yes, him. As I said, I can't fathom what kind of roleplaying you have to do for justifying his romance, you have to be a real fucked up person even for 40k standards. I haven't made a decision yet. I've been practically flirting with everyone, except Taash. But in terms of the guys, Emmrich does seem to have a leg up when it comes to moments of intimacy. Rook and Co apparently understood enough to know that the dagger is extremely important that they crafted a "fake" one that can do functionally nothing except look like the real dagger to the untrained eye (even though Solas' eye is not untrained) (in a plan that had absolutely nothing to do with Rook, btw) but it's apparently not important enough to make sure the guy who fucking invented it, who needs it to control the Veil, doesn't have it when you trap him against his will in the blood magic prison that he created and is the only one who knows the details of how it works. The next big lore heavy fantasy game to keep an eye on will be Avowed. If you played Pillars of eternity you’ll know how complex a lot of the lore is with the political tensions, god dramas etc as well as having an interesting world. It’s more of a TES competitor than dragon age but fantasychads have to deal with what we get.

The other one to keep an eye on is Exodus by archetype with a lot of old BioWare staff including the creator of mass effect, KOTOR and the original baldurs gate. Not much is known but hopefully based on the talent it’ll be good

That was a major flaw of the first game unfortunately. The lore is genuinely interesting but it’s delivered in the most boring and long winded way. I can see Avowed being a bit of an entry point to the series similar to what BioWare wanted with VG. Hopefully it’ll be a nice entry point for lorefags to get into it again. I personally felt PoE2 improved on its delivery a bit, others disagree. Manjor Difference is Avowed can afford to attract new players as it’s a new series and not the final one in a 15 year long story…

The closest experience I have gotten to DA was reading all the Witcher short stories and books, then playing The Witcher 1+2+3. When I finished TW3 I was so blown away I couldn't play another video game for about a year, nothing could reach those heights (except DA...). If you haven't done it I highly recommend it, for once you get invested in a series and everything gets paid off. There's not much space for roleplaying but I roleplayed what book Geralt would do and it was extremely fun. Seems video games really peaked in the 2010s.

There’s probably no answer but maybe because Elgar’nan was the first spirit to become an elf and his spirit was launched out of the body back to the fade. I really like him, he feels very original to me. They pulled off the weird and otherworldly vibes with his character while still being someone endearing and vulnerable. His banter with Solas is a heavenly gift for solavellans and he even improves on replay when you're able to catch the nuance and hidden meanings of his dialogue. 7.5/10

Does Solas with a befriended Inquisitor not get a redeem ending? Like I hate that every other Inquisitor got so little but given how big Solas is to the story a romanced one getting more (though I dont think it's that much more, a scene or two) would be a given. The little bits of Lavellan and Solas talking to/about each other are the best and most prominent parts of the game for me. And it was mostly shoehorned into the last two minutes of an 70/80 hour game. Theres no post game and no emotional catharsis on my end. It's not even like there were things happening in the background to give the impression of Solas moving forward or making considerations. It's empty. Just like Mythal's half-assed "it's my fault too" despite her not actually saying any words to own it like fault or regret or sorry. Or Solas not being able to confront her with his own feelings towards what happened between them.

Both Solas and any Inquisitor were mishandled assets. Also male Lavellan is for Dorian and considering Dorian is actually in the game, unlike the others, a Dorian-romanced Inquisitor should also definitely gotten more.

I ghosted most of the info on the game except for that teaser trailer from 2018, didn't even know it was renamed to Veilguard until a few days before release. Went into it with a complete open mind and immediately got turned off by the art style and then the quality of the dialogue. 1-3 weren't pointless just because the South got rekt at the end plus there had to be an excuse for the choices of massive consequence you can make for the south not mattering because there never have been true choices in these games, only the illusion of them. You can decide for yourself whether the previous characters that live there survived or not because this is the end of the Dragon Age anyway, if there ever will be another game, it wlll be another Age many years in the future

Everything being Elves except for Titans is not Weeke's fault, that was already written and it was visible all over DA:I.

Wokeshit is annoying but I just skipped it.
Companions having cringe dialogue is also nothing new but they overdid it with Bellara

Illuminati twists have a single digit % chance of turning out good so that's worrying. Apparently they have black metal names like Vorgoth, that's a small plus
