They removed all the fun of the trilogy and replaced it with garbage and the gunplay is worse than mods and worse than any other fps on the market.

Except they removed it and put in it's place a "le randomized spawn event" script called Alife 2.0

And worst of all, other than gutting alife, the game is basically unchanged after 15 fucking years. Artifacts are all still worthless boring stat sticks, there is still damn near 0 gun or armor variety, there is no new gameplay mechanic, the only new things are bad (canned animations for everything, new horrendous UI, new horrendous death screen, new horrendous lighting, c̶a̶p̶s̶ coupons, new horrendous "alife", etc).
Everything that is good about this game was as good, if not better, in the trilogy.

And the trilogy doesn't require a 4000 series with dlss and framegen to be playable. Even GAMMA can run on a 8 year old PC.
It's just sad to see what they did to this series to make a quick buck. Newfags liking it really just solidifies my take that modern gamers are like babies who get excited at shiny thing flashing around their face no matter how mid or bad a game is, it will get sales and hype on graphics alone. I see no reason why a person who has put hundreds of hours into the trilogy and mods would ever want to put themselves in this game.

Unreal Engine 5 was a mistake. The game is barely playable without frame generation on modern systems even with the current 80m radius "AI" system, imagine if the mythical A-life was actually up and running on the entire map.

Daniel Vavra, the game director for Kingdom Come Deliverance, said they they initially prototyped their game on Unreal Engine (I think it was UE4 at the time) but they said they couldn't get AI interactions and life running in cities without completely ruining wrecking performance so they switched to CryEngine.

I never got out of the swamp in Clear Sky, so it's also the only stalkan I never finished. I want to change that.

I played SoC on release and I'm enjoying the game. I dunno what your issue is with guns, feels normal to me

A life missing/broken sucks sure.

I never wanted them to change artifacts and there's plenty of good weapons, if anything I'm more incentivized to not just use a single shot rifle the entire game.

GAMMA and Anomaly still exist, and the game looks pretty good even if its not well optimized. I can run it on epic at 100+ fps just fine though since I built a new PC 2 weeks ago.

Does anyone else kinda hates how the story is told here? In previous games, the story was there, you were free to engage with it but at the end of the day it was just something that was a part of the world you've been dropped in. Here, the story just kinds feels like it's a central point that everything revolves around and basically feels mandatory and essential, with all the fancy new cinematics, insert songs, voice acting, etc. I don't know, it's hard to explain but it kinda feels like Stalker 2 is Homeworld 3 to the original trilogy's Homeworld 1, 2 and Cataclysm.

They obviously focused on the story over the sandbox style that the original games were known for. They aimed for the casual/console audience instead with the focus on story missions, which is probably why A-life is in such a shit state atm.

There feels like a huge divide between people who have played the trilogy and those who havent. Unironically saying the actual stalker games were sandboxes is a pretty insane statement to me. They are absolutely nothing like it. There is a very regimented and linear story to them and your purpose is to do that story. I'm not talking about Anomaly, I'm talking OG trilogy. Everything in 2 feels like it was made to be more cinematic and story involved. Even something as basic as the death screen conveyed that you weren't really all that important and the life in the Zone will carry on without you, hell, you can probably stick around and wait for a blind dog to start chomping on your leg. It's almost like they wanted 2 to be a more character driven story which doesn't really mesh all that well with the story tone established by the previous entries.

But you literally are. In SoC you are so godamn important the glowie monster energy consciousness marked you for death. Your actions completely change how the zone operates, you shutdown the brainscorcher and you end up (canonically) killing those who had full control of the zone.
You CAN sit around and do nothing or do the limited side quests in 1, but the actual world is small and linked to quest progression by design, so it's not something you can do endlessly.
2 is more cinematic but it's purely a result of higher budget and higher standards. SoC was jank as fuck but attempted cinematic cutscenes with long panning shots over battlefields and combat zones with "epic" firefights. The cutscenes as well which occur multiple times to try and instill a sense of importance.

Not at all you strawman faggot. People are getting annoyed because people are very fucking clearly comparing 2 to mods like GAMMA and saying "well stalker was a sandbox" or "stalker was way harder". When in actuality the actual games aren not harder and are nothing like the mods.
I play a lot of anomaly, but I did so after playing the trilogy. On forums you unironically have people recommending anomaly or other mods as "definitive stalker experiences" and telling people to skip the original trilogy.

It's not a divide between who played it and who didn't. It's a divide between what the fan community made it into (which was, incidentally, what the devs always promised the game would be from the start) and what the games actually were.

The original Stalker trilogy were flawed games, they did not achieve the ambition the devs had for them. If you read preview articles and shit (back then we had these things called "magazines", it's kinda like what youtubers are now) they were promising Stalker to be this dynamic sandbox where anything could happen thanks to A-life and bla bla bla. Like seriously, they were promising crazy shit like you would make enemies of a Stalker and he would later track you down while you sleep and try to kill you. The actual Stalker SoC we got on release was a drastically cut down version of what the devs had been aiming for.

... A lot like Stalker 2.

Most of the fan mods over the years (up until miseryshit and Tarkov syndrome ruined it) have focussed on adding back all that cut content, and that includes making it more open-ended, like it or not. That was the original design intent of the game. And it just feels right- People want to just be an ordinary Stalker in the zone. It just works as a concept.

The real divide here, if anything, is between long time Stalker fans who have been following it since before SoC even released, and people who found it later on; the latter group of people just take the games at face value for what they are, whereas the former group know they aren't what Stalker was MEANT to be.

Sakharov already had a working psi protector so turning off the Brain Scorcher and assault on the CNN would have happened eventually without him anyways. He was a significant figure but he was hardly essential to solving the game's plot because as it turned out, the whole crux of the mysteries of the Zone, the Brain Scorcher, the X-Labs, the CNNP, was set up without him and didn't have anything to do with him. He really was just a random fuck who was resourceful and skilled enough for the job and as three fucking games later show, he was hardly unique in that regard.

I honestly doubt it. It would take someone as badass and as lucky as Strelok to do it successfully while also having the same obsessed mindset that Strelok had. There were a lot of moving parts that had to align exactly.
The amount of monolith Strelok mows through is nothing short of legendary
It's very clearly a hero's journey only very few could do.

And no, I am not saying fan mods, especially not Misery/Anomaly type stuff are closer to that vision, many of them are not. But implementing free roam and unlocking A-life (as seen in AMK and OL) is.

My favourite times in Stalker are just chilling around the bar area and there would be random mutant attacks and sometimes even bandits or military etc raid the place, haven't seen it happen once, it's like spawning is just disabled around the whole area of any bases.

Do you also have translation inconsistencies in your language? In French we have typos, names, factions and mutants named differently depending on the dialogue. Sometimes they tried to translate literally, sometimes not. It feels like an amateur translation. Even mods are translated with much more rigour.

Ward is extremely fair in 2 compared to the military cunts from previous games. They don't even kill stalkers on sight. It even becomes a bit baffling when Scar starts referring to you as a fixer if you accepted the glowie badge because all Ward has done at that point is take over Slag Heap (which is a bandit shithole) and clear out bandits from the area, which is something that fell to Duty and Freedom in the older games

I haven't played S2 yet, have a couple of questions first:
1. How badly is it optimized? Am I in trouble with Ryzen 3600 and RX 6600 on 1080p Medium/High settings (especially since the FSR implementation in this game appears to be god awful: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/stalker-2-dlss-vs-fsr-vs-xess-comparison/ )?

Incredible, an argument no one made.
I am specifically pointing out that despite any claim that "stalker is xyz" in reality, the 4 games GSC have made follow a pretty set in stone direction regardless of mods.
I wish Stalker 2 had proper A life and built upon the mechanics from the first few games and the better aspects of some mods. But pretending that Stalker 2 isn't like the originals is fucking stupid.

We literally had retards claiming the original stalkers were fucking sandboxes and not story driven which is only something you can apply to the modpacks.

3700x and 5700xt here. I can just about hit 60fps with medium settings if I enable fsr and framegen, and it looks and plays terrible. Also massive frame drops indoors and in hubs. I stopped playing.

it's fsr frame generation emulation but with improved latency so it feels close to native. the mod also comes with antilag2 support which should in theory help amd gpu users out too. it's highly customizable if you press Insert in game.
on nvidia you have to enable "dlss fg" from graphics options instead of the mod menu and it will work out of the box without any tweaking.

The original games easily had more atmosphere with the muted colours, somber lighting and tone and the bleek emptiness of the zone when you weren't desperately trying to fight off a pack of mutants. Because the last Bethesda game I've played was Fallout 3, I totally abhor The Elder Scrolls series and I refuse to play any new Fallout game unless it's being made by Obsidian; and my experiences of FarCry series are limited with the very first game and playing FC2 a couple of hours back in 2009 (fun in concept, interesting setting, gets boring very soon).

Hey, can anyone offer some ideas or solutions to the performance issues I'm having? The game in general just runs like total shit, when I stand still though it skyrockets in FPS. As soon as I start moving my camera or player around though, boom it tanks.

I've tried playing the game on every combo of settings possible and nothing seems to keep me over a constant 60.

Specs: 4060ti, Ryzen9 5950x, 32GB ram, I have the game on a 990 pro.

I've also tried many if not all of the performance mods on Nexus, no help there.

Is it my PC or the game that's fucked?

That's really weird. On my Nvidia GPU i simply enable DLSS FG from game options and it just works.
The other option is to disable DLSS FG from there and set it up yourself through the Insert menu. When you open your debug view with FG + FG Hud Fix ticked on, you should make sure that bottom middle and bottom right look the same, except bottom middle has the same image without the HUD. You increase the limit until like 5 and you should eventually get a perfect looking image through the debug view. If the hud fix limit is wrong then you will get 2x the frames but you won't feel the smoothness meaning it's not working.
I was recommending dlss enabler because i thought it would work out of the box for everyone on nvidia, but it doesn't which is a shame.

I finished the game on highest difficulty level and I was repairing my guns/armor all the time, my stash was also full of spare armors I was collecting but never using. Just stay away from getting hit, don't let it fall below 80% or so, and make sure to make some money as you run around.

I think the issue is that a lot of people stuck to the main story quest and just kinda soaked damage while spamming medkits, which was a bit too easy to do with how many of the things were lying around.
If you're careful you can definitely get away with not blowing your budget on repairs.

They were also generally simpler to make in all fairness.
Fewer points to potentially fail.
That said, there's definitely a lot of AAA titles that come out completely undercooked and full of problems day one.

I had a backup save, so I first put it into appdata, then loaded an old save, and then loaded the newest save while in game and it worked, so I didn't lose anything. did you install the shader skip mod by any chance? since a new patch is out you *SHOULD* recompile your shaders and only then add that mod back inside. the lowered fps coudl be due to cpu being pegged while its compiling shaders in real time.

That's the problem with mods, since they're not made by the same people with a clear look and feel they'll stick out really bad. In the games they obviously had to make that much less the case or else it wouldn't make any gameplay sense why people would still be in the zone, if they could just sell the first Gravi they find and fuck off. Artefacts are much more common in this depiction of the zone.

well,
I'm sad that new fans don't get the full true stalker experience, with A-Life working and a bit of euro jankiness. The gameplay is currently extremely linear and "fallout-esque": go to that place, kill the guy, get rewards.
Hunting artifacts so far is the only thing that the game has unique and is fun, I'm amazed at how perfectly they have reported movements like jumping/walking/crouching, doing parkour to climb pylons etc.

They nailed the atmosphere perfectly: the rusty industrial ruins abandoned in the fields, the sound of dry leaves blown away by the wind, the lightning and the rain: the atmosphere of Stalker 2 is impeccable. Only the Emissions I wish were more intense, experienced from the shelter.

At the moment Alife, as we knew it, is non-existent and know it.
I played a bit of Gamma yesterday and realized that a lot of the gameplay and fun comes from random events that occur during exploration, bromances with NPCs when you see them again after 50 hours in Jupiter in a mega load out, and things like that.

I don't think the early areas do it justice, at the 20 hour mark or so (if you've been taking your time) the game definitely starts to feel more stalker with it's quests

all the item animations feel completely unnecessary. the sip drinking animation is so long your staminal bar regens 50% before the drink even takes effect. the canned food animation is so long you're simply better off using sausage or bread, especially since canned food weighs more and all food seems to nourish the same amount.

also health kits not healing when you have heavy bleeding (also you cant tell the difference between heavy and regular bleeding because the icon is the same) fucking sucks.

last, enemies spot you through thin walls. basically any wall they can shoot through they can also see through.

The developer intention since SoC was always a cinematic story with action set pieces and cutscenes, they were just limited by the resources they had available. One of the most notable pieces of cut content that everyone has known about for a billion years at this point is the long winding road map between Dark Valley and the Cordon where you were meant to be escaping from a helicopter chasing you while driving a car/being driven in a car and shooting at the military in a big action setpiece. You niggers are delusional if you think SoC had none of that in its DNA to begin with and that 2 took cues from Far Cry and other AAA slop and not GSC's original cinematic delusions of grandeur. Clear Sky especially had tons of that shit towards the end of the game, too. It's clear that the designers at GSC always wanted the games to have more of a focus on cinematic experiences and setpieces.

At this point I'm starting to doubt that most "stalker fans" have ever even played the vanilla (or at most ZRP) version of SoC, or vanilla CS/CoP. I remember back before ZRP was a thing everyone would recommend the Stalker Complete mods for the original trilogy on first playthroughs despite the fact that they changed a bunch of gameplay related shit and weren't just bugfixes like many people shilled them as. Even back then I thought it was homosexual behavior for people to be recommending modding on a first playthrough. I'm guessing this evolution of the perception of stalker from the reality of it being a contiguous large map size survivaley shooter with imsim elements in the form of jank broken A-Life and a flair for the cinematic into "it was always a sandbox fps rpg with perfectly working A-Life" is from all the people who've only played modded custom stalker games and have no idea what the original experiences are actually like.

I actually really like the animations, but don't like the inconsistency between eating an item directly from a container vs your inventory. If you eat it from a container the animation is skipped. Don't know why you're so bothered by the animations, I mean you're not eating in the middle of combat are you? The original intention for SOC was to be a hyper dynamic, semi-randomized ALife driven game (that still tells some kind of coherent story). This is what got everyone excited initially, and why the game got such huge following before it even released. Anomaly etc. is in a way continuation of that hype.
SOC we got was a compromise they had to make after delays and delays.
