Really struggling to think of a game with a worse queuing system than dota2 lads.

How hard would it be to just let you queue as a role regardless of queue time.
No, "But then core roles have a long queue time" is not an answer. Because a longer queue is better than wasting an hour with people squabbling over roles and being forced to play roles and heroes they arent good at. Especially when MMR rating is global across all heroes rather than role or hero based as it should be

Radiance isn't mandatory, if your lane is difficult which it often is then I suggest skipping it. You can get blademail, manta, bloodthorn and whichever other disabling items are good (nullifier/disperser/abyssal/hex) and it's pretty strong when you can ult on top of people and immediately use all your items and fuck them up.

Dota2 is the only game I can think of off the top of my head where you are asked to play heroes/roles you arent good at, or even ones you just dont like, as a barrier to entry.

Imagine if you wanted to play tf2 and you couldn't play Scout unless you played a round as Pyro first.

there are plenty of game modes available which do not force you into a specific role or hero
and even if it was a requirement then expecting you to be proficient with other roles and heroes should be seen as a bar to pass with practice and effort instead of a restriction

Then why are you forced to play at the same rank with the same players with different roles of different skill levels. A 6k support player will not be able to play core as efficiently at the same level. And vice versa. And yet prior to immortal draft, you are expected to role queue when you run out of tokens, and do exactly that when the game slots you into a random fill role. The quality of the games are lowered, so that they can get people queued up for a game quicker. They're favouring lower quality higher quantity games.

My brother in christ the system is retarded and valve doesn't know what they're doing, accept it. They have never made a competitive game before they took on dota, we have zero reason to give them any credit on this.

Thinking about playing this game after being a HOTS/LOLfag for several years now. I've played a handle of games of DOTA 2 over the past few decades but I'm not sure where to start or how to get into the game properly, and I can't convince my friends who used to play it a lot to get back into it.

Any advice? Good heroes to play? Position suggestions? I did enjoy playing pos 1 goobers like Lich King and Juggernaut last time I played, and I remember playing a jungle lifestealer back in like 2014 or something haha.

I was still talking about the queue system being bad, my point being we have no reason to assume they know how to make a good queue system when they've never done one beforehand (Or since really, except maybe something with TF2 not sure, and now deadlock I suppose).

I always played Dota as a casual social game, only half-paying attention and usually focusing more on cracking wise in Teamspeak/Mumble/Discord/LAN. I was initially naturally very good at it since skill levels were a lot lower in DotA 1 and the game was simple enough for me to fully contain all the mechanics and content in my mind.

Coming back after all these years with a new mindset and really focusing on the game has been really interesting. I always thought about the game, but I never focused on it like this. I take a few seconds when I die or when farming a camp to think about the game state. When I load in as a hero, I don't just play automatically and by the seat of my pants, I think about the playstyle I need to maintain for it to succeed, and the enemy heroes I need to worry about.

This has obviously led to a MMR increase, but more interestingly it's led to a massive diversification in my hero pool. I used to mostly play ranged spellcaster types, and the few carries I played were ranged heroes who relied on spells like Shadowfiend and Weaver, and could participate in fights. Now I can play ultrafarm heroes and heroes who lane poorly because I take a few seconds to put myself in the mindset of conservative laning and midgame farming patterns while loading in. Would recommend.

Just played 3 games on my best heroes ending with the most or the second highest number of kills in the game but I still lost.
I get these teams where there's a 4 stack or 2 2 stacks who go off to do their thing instead of staying back.
I'm spamming "get back" constantly so we can defend the high ground and kill everyone but instead they go in and die as I clean up and still lose because I can't win on my own. I can't push because 5 enemies respawn by that time.

I played well the past 3 games, perfect kda low deaths, still high participation with my best heroes.
Idk what went wrong. Am I just supposed to lose no matter what sometimes? I'm not feeding and I feel like I did well, not like I got outplayed. But we're still losing.

You can really tell this is a first DOTA tournament for these guys. The pings are so loud that it's pretty much unwatchable for me and the size of the UI is really distracting. Maybe I'll get used to the UI, but not the pings.

DreamLeague was like a week or two ago lol there hasn't been time for any massive change. But it's always tough being at the top, everyone spends their time figuring out your weaknesses. They'll come back now they've seen the strats being used against them but it's very difficult to adjust on the fly.

I meant the patch hurting heroes and playstyles they use, and that they hadn't adapted to it.

Is there a bigger torture in this game? Literally EVERY single enemy hero has an invis, a blink, a force staff, a euls, a ghost, 4k hp, 3 stuns, and there's always a complete brainded hero like axe that disables you through bkb, and you're somehow supposed to solo kill 5 heroes in a span of 6 seconds. ive realized i can consistently climb if i play at least 1 win a day.
playing everyday for 30 days nets you around 750 mmr.

its much better than chain queueing like a ghoul like gorgc playing 4-4 and there goes your 8 hours. then at worst you go 1-7

with 1 game a day you are on your pristine mental condition and get to utilize more of your time to other hobbies/gym/self/movie. if however you lose 1 day you need another 2 won games to keep the progress up or call it a day but its much better than chain queueing

I don't know what the consensus is and I am pretty bad, but I usually go for the desolate facet and it feels like it really helps with farming early on (I put only one point in E early and max it last).

Radiance is kind of bad unless you are having an extremely good early game and you plan on eventually going for null + butterfly in my experience. Still, like I said, I am pretty bad so maybe at your level is different.

Issue with it is most heroes with high base attack damage don't cast a ton of spells, vice versa as well.

Might be interesting with Centaur Shard however, he can Double Edge to amp up his base damage frequently and toss out the boosted attacks.

The only big differences are that you should hit your item timings earlier, and be able to rotate to bot (or top) when relevant. There are very few matchups that are hard for me as TA mid. If you get psi blades level 1, and position yourself so that psi blades hit the enemy mid hero, they will have no choice but to back off. Start with wand, wraith band, and treads early. Then get a blight stone. Once you have this, the opposing mid will melt in 2-3 hits.
