She was introduced in the Calling where she had Maric's child - they don't call the kid Alistair but the implication was there. Don't think it was for sure confirmed until Inquisition.
I always thought it complicated up what should've been a simple story. Plus it kind of felt like they wanted Maric to seem more like a good guy who wouldn't cheat on his wife with a servant.

Those were lended to you to stop the Breach and Corypheus, not given. Same with the soldiers who were only lended if not volunteers. Your job is done and you've got an army in their borders, no shit the nations either want you dissolved or under oversight, and the fact that the Inquisition fucked up utterly with the Qunari and Solas' elven spies was the last straw.

So I decided to give Taash's storyline a chance.
Well it was just as bad as expected.
First of all she didn't undergo any meaningful change. The only twist - embrace Rivain or Qun culture - happened during one conversation and didn't have any consequence for a character or story.
In fact the only character who has changed was her mom. Makes me wonder why didn't they just make Tassh the single mom who treats her daughter in one way and then changes her stance over the course of the story.
Final quest to rescue her mother was shitty executed. I didn't feel like Taash cared much, at all, even with the follow up scenes. It didnt help that the writer clearly leaked own hatred towards his/her family member into the writing for Taash's mom being portrayed as in the wrong even after her death. It felt jarring. The whole story felt like writers way to vent about their irl issues.
In fact, whole character and story of Taash's has no redeeming qualities. Attempts to make her likeable through feeding birds and telling qunari fag to eat fruits were lacking and couldn't even scratch the fat thick layer of repulsive personality, attitude and behavior of Taash.

I always felt that the Inquisition ended up being way too big and Influential by the end of the game. It just seemed ridiculous how Josephine knew every single noble in Thedas and all their secrets or how It felt like Leliana had a million spies answering to her with how it seemed like every village and every semi major household and institution had a team of her agents embedded there.

It's not like there aren't nice things to say about it. Some nice things have been said about it in /dag/. And honestly the game isn't close to as catastrophically awful as people were saying right when it launched. For what it's worth it plays better than Inquisition. On higher difficulties if you wanted a rogue to live you pretty much had to take control of them for portions of any fight (in my experience). Especially against bosses.
Wouldn't really call it tactical though more like babysitting.
Also the only way to use the focus abilities and ones like Varric's and Sera's were really good.

Fans liked to mock him because he was the only hetero companion in a game full of bisexuals, but he's actually quite funny and sweet. Also he's one of the few companions who can't die and can get mentioned in Inquisition and Veilguard. Starkhaven is the only city that doesn't fall to the new blight and he basically saves the Free Marches by uniting them under a single banner to fight the darkspawn, he's pretty alright.

Rook accomplishes the most and deserves it the least of all the Dragon Age protags. The game doesn't even try to explain how you can do all this either. Somehow you can just wallop archdemons and Elgar'nan with your two pals. And you're the best team leader even when your companions barely even care about you.

The slow Rook jokes are funny but the character is so badly done that even that isn't amusing in-game. There is zero nuance, not even a whiff of it. Fight ending Solas' ranting is supposed to be a low point for him but when it comes to Rook he's not even wrong.

Mourn Watch Rook ends a whole civil war on their own and keeps their foe's skull as a trophy
Warden and Veil Jumper Rooks both faced and dealt with a giant darkspawn invasion while also rescuing their allies/random innocents and so on.
Rook has a much more bombastic past then any of the prior protags which is why they get recruited by Varric, vs the heroes recruiting their companions.

They may intend that as of now, but he's one of the characters easiest brought back. They can't kill him or claim he died unless they're finally ready to do something interesting with the world. They can set a theoretical next game 1000 years from Veilguard so your decisions really don't matter and he would still easily be present.

It's not what I expected at all but his story inherently is not over despite Varric's end narration. He is quite literally the most critical character in the game universe in every ending.

Yeah, but he can't die unless Bioware wants to make the Veil fall (and it's clear they don't want to). His life is tied to the Veil, so he's pretty much the only character in the saga they can't kill. I'm not saying he'll come back anytime soon, especially if they want to steer away from Thedas to focus on the Executors' continent, but they 100% kept him alive in every ending to make him come back, should the need arise.

During Joplin they seem to have been very much in love with the idea of the game being set in the northern seas. They designed a boat, they designed an underwater base, they redesigned the underwater base to make it mobile by attaching it to a giant sea creature, etc. They did studies of the environs and architecture on Seheron and Par Vollen.

Isabela would have fit right in.

Yeah, and it gets even weirder, because there is a side mission/war table quest in Inquisition where the dragon scholar you meet in the Western Approach discovers that dragons have a natural resistance against the Blight, and that their bodies automatically create "cysts" around the infected areas to contain it and keep the dragon somewhat healthy.

The project went through what, three or four creative directors? And how many producers? I think all those dragons were blighted by Ghilan'nain with her Super Blight, so it makes some kind of sense. Even Taash says something about dragons hating the Blight and being very hard to infect, which DAO and Inquisition also confirmed - those we see in Veilguard got blighted under special circumstances by a very special individual

This is just my headcanon but since we see blighted dragons in Inquisition and VG (other than archdemons) they're probably just resistant to blight not fully inmune. Maybe Alistair will purge the blight from his body in time or something.

The people involved in Joplin quitting the company probably wasn't conducive to recreating Joplin. People leaving or getting moved to other projects means that those production pipelines which the old team could take for granted would no longer have been there.

Not really, the group of spies thing was established exactly to deal with Solas, since we needed to work undercover, corrupt people to learn what his agents were doing, and follow the clues he left. And the fact that so many important people (the Inquisitor, Dorian, the Divine, Morrigan, and probably other notable figures depending on your Keep) would help you publicly while you worked in the shadows would have made the world feel more connected and plausible.

Instead we got Dorian always chilling in the SD hideout, Morrigan acting as a taxi for the Inquisitor, Isabella acknowledging zero shit of the stuff happening outside Rivain and becoming a gambler, and the Inquisitor having to deal with the total reset of the south, while Rook is perfectly safe in that stupid static Lighthouse.

The comics with that elven squire and the Fereldan knight follow the spy idea, it's one undercover/secret mission after another. Same goes for the animated series on Netflix if you think about it. Only the most recent comic with Varric and Harding is more in line with Veilguard style.

i run all of those mods except 4gb because im on gog and im having no issues

for extra dog slot you have to click on him on and off so he appears as an icon next to your warden's icon in the top left corner.

mage is disgusting op but you might get bored with it if you like a challenge

The Hezenkoss and Aelia quests really make me appreciate how DAO dipped into horror genre for segments involving mages and demons. Like when you're entering the circle tower you have no idea what you're walking into, but everything right from when you arrive on the lakeshore screams at you to be distrustful of any shit you find in that tower. Which is why you get options to kill Wynne and her students on meeting them, you're expected to be paranoid as shit about everything you find in there. There's none of that when dealing with Hezenkoss and the bone golem.
