the only time during the stream where I saw bosses getting owned was, eerily enough, creeping frost
that and the mercenary 30% hit on bosses but thats unironically worthless as its unreliable and if you die during the fight the boss gets healed instantly

you don't need to play the first but it probably wouldn't hurt to get an idea of the different currencies and basic skills.
if you took d2 and d4s combined endgame and doubled it it's about a quarter(if that) of poe2s endgame in early access.

Acts 1-3 are done, you have to replay them once to hit the endgame mapping system level. Map system has about 5-6 Leagues from the previous game with updated monsters, bosses and items but same basic mechanics.

Nobody knows how much PoE 1 knowledge is going to help you. GGG are huge D2 fanboys so D2 background is going to help a lot. Focus on building a huge Life bar and cap your resists just like in Diablo 2. Devs kept talking about Elden Ring being a big influence and all classes now have a Dodge roll, so get ready for that.

the implication is that you get access to Sanctum in act 2, Ulti in act 3 and TOTA in act 4.
if that sounds like it will force people to play sanctum maybe that will be balanced by it being easier to fail.
in general bonuses from the skill tree are also less extreme than in poe1 so maybe thats also true for the first ascendency passives.

I like the trailer at first, and then it kinda gets too complicated when it comes to the endgame.

on a 1 to 10 scale in terms of complexity, d4 is around 3 for me, and poe2 looks like a 9
I'll still try it out though, but I wish they would dial it down to 7 or 8

personally, i'm down to watch a 1 hour long video every week to learn how to do the content optimally
but i have a feeling that i'll probably need to dedicate 5 hours every week just for learning the math behind the system in this game

Monk can get a power change by slapping a bitch at low hp, but it's not like you have to use a specific skill to put that monster at low life in the first place.

Series of arena battles. Each victory you can choose to quit and get rewards, or continue with new difficulty modifier.

Kill a bunch of monsters in a circle area to juice up the Ritual. Activate the ritual and you fight those monsters again and you get to choose rewards from the Ritual table once you're done.
>Expedition
Place bombs on the ground, monsters and chests come out. Kill the monsters, open the chests. You get special currency to trade with 3 different vendor NPCs, one which gambles items, one which haggles for items, and third who helps you build supergood items.
>Breach
Touch a demonic hand, evil area starts spreading and monsters appear, kill monsters, collect what they drop.
>Delirium
Touch a mirror, fog appears. eldritch horrors appear in the fog, kill them for extra loot.

Thats all those leagues are, and each have their unique rewards and endgame bosses.

I don't like only 1 death in maps, and I'm not sure about those tower-scarab mechanics; like, with scarabs and maps, you could buff every map you ran. This seems a lot more RNG; like, how often will you find 4 towers with overlapping areas of effect?

I played Path of Exile on Steam for a short period of time during the early hype year or so I think, but didn't play far.
After some seasons in Diablo 3 Reapers of Souls, I did not play a "Diablo-like" for a long time, but I have become interested committing myself in Path of Exile 2, since I will refuse to pay and play for Diablo 4. I even watched the stream yesterday and also redeemed the scrotum wings.
So my question is, if I want to go through Path of Exile 1 completely before Path of Exile 2, preferably as a F2P right now on a basically fresh account, what kinda class and build should I play to go as fast as possible through the whole story and most content ignoring endgame long-term farming? Is the answer to simply just pick Marauder and pump everything into strength to just unga bunga?

marauder is probably the most straight forward. take a slam skill (sunder is super good at the start on and you get it very early), click all the passive nodes that sound like they give you more damage and beat up some mobs. use warcries for extra damage if you feel like pressing more buttons.
make sure to take leap gem, linked to faster attacks, for moving around the map very quickly. you can also combo it with frostblink - frost blink is an instant teleport with a cooldown while leap slam is a slower dash with no cooldown, so they pair nicely.

I shit you not - the PoE2 shown few years ago and by the sound of Q&A and PoE2 shown yesterday are two different concepts.
PoE2 back then looked different from PoE1 and by the nature of split was supposed to be different, so people who didnt like it could have played PoE1. They even said it last year.
What i saw yesterdays was basically PoE1 with a bit of QoL and visual update.
It feels like initial concept they worked on went wrong (fans bitching? issues during inner testing?) and they just jumped on Plan B (making PoE1 with a bit of QoL and graphic update).

You have weapon swaps, melee is going to be a lot better when spears, flails, axes, swords, daggers, claws show up. Melee is missing a lot it seems.

And your weapon swap will be very important, like offhand mace for armor breaking or offhand spear for mobility options.

The type of gear you have equipped determines your gem slots. Spells with wands, slams with maces, arrows with bows etc. Link sockets are decoupled, because to get them you have to alter your gems.

Kalandra doesn't really corporeally exist in Wraeclast though, she can only send emanations, or bring people into her lake

so who the hell are these Precursors

they have mentioned that
1) they have an internal "monster power" stat, so just because monsters are random doesn't mean you can roll badly and generate content where every pack is Revenants.
2) some monster abilities will be on a shared cooldown so you can't necessarily get chain or multi-slammed. or if you can at launch, they have the balance tools to recognize that there is a problem and fix it quickly.

I was looking at the keybinds from the trailer.
Mouse buttons for general skills / direction
QERTF for skills (see which buttons are missing?)
So WASD is for movement
Do they expect us to move and click skills with the left hand only? What would this "piano" even look like when most of the skills are now can be used while moving.

What are your resistances? When you beat the Act 5 boss you get a minus 30% all resistance penalty, this is the biggest new player filter as the notification is only displayed in the chat box.
You can use your crafting bench in your Hideout to apply resistances to gear you have with open suffix.

This is how it works in poe1, and this is how it will also be in poe2.

Chaos doesn't matter until endgame, its something you target once you have the other resistances under control.

Rings, Amulet and Belts are the best way to sort out resistances while leveling.
Do you have any "Essences" or "Alchemy Orbs", buy Two-Stone rings from the magic vendor in town and throw some essences into them.
Repeat with Leather or Heavy belts, and whatever Amulet type you need, Dex or Strength.
Finally, use the crafting bench to fix your remaining resistances.
75% Fire/Cold/Lightning should be your aim, but having 60%+ for the campaign should be fine.

Check vendors for gear with the right sockets, then throw an orb of alchemy or essence at it.
Go to your hideout and use the crafting bench to craft resists on any pieces that you can craft on. The ones you can't craft on, consider discarding them or changing them using chaos orbs/essences/scouring+alchemy etc.
Good gear means life+resistances, resistances are priority before you have 75% all elemental and at least 30% chaos. If you have those, then life is prio.
You're also ok with taking gear that has attributes you're missing (strength or whatever). Other stats don't exist and ignore them completely, except on weapons..

You have a catastrophic resistance failure, your elemental resistances should be capped.

its combos that do 5x damage.
the "mechanically best" skills are for clearing, then you use bigger combos for single-target, or if you want to do a 1 button build you just automate as much as possible.

Imagine a shitty fireball spell
Lets say when it connects with enemy it explodes, dealing 100 damage on entire screen, for example you invested into aoe a lot.
Now you use GMP, the same spell makes 6 fireballs, they explode but still deal damage only once for a grand total of 100 damage due to how anti shotgunning mechanics are coded in most abilities, but you cover more ground

Now you take the cluster grenade ability.
You throw it at enemy, it deals 25 damage with initial hit, and 3x 25 with small overlaps after like explosive trap.
Now you use gmp, you throw 3 cluster grenades, they pop at the boss with large hitbox, dealing 25 initial damage and 3x3x25 overlapping "shotgun" damage after
Players that are going to find such outlier abilities eith some support gem combos, will be dabbing on the game with single key press, while you will be busy doing your wow rotation to kill the boss.

People hate Exped for 2 reasons:

Deli has been disliked since its release by a little under half the population because it's a "you have to be fast AND have a strong build" mechanic which filters out the vast majority of builds. This could be somewhat circumvented for a while for slower builds via using other mechanics like Ritual and Legion Incubators to get Deli orbs, but they nipped that over a year ago now by "decoupling" most League mechanics and about the only place to get them now is Heist, which many people find absolutely fucking mind-numbing.
I don't get the hate for Ritual.
The hate for Breach is just cause it's bad post-"rework" (nerf).
Also, "these people" probably liked Metamorph.

We don't, but I don't doubt it'll happen. It allows poe1 players to experience content first and still enjoy their fastpaced grind so poe1 can still be considered relevant, it allows devs to do less work and also use poe1 players to bug fix. They're still copying some of Last Epoch's homework and changing it slightly so I guess they could take from them again as a "new" feature.

The real reason redditors aren't happy with getting old leagues isn't exactly the recycling but the fact that it reminds them of poe1, they didn't have a good time in poe1 and couldn't progress far, they were expecting a new fresh start where everyone would learn the game from zero, seeing all the old leagues reminds them of their failures in poe1, a lot of complaints have been like

Having gotten to endgame in Sanctum, it's a shit mechanic.
>Locked "the way it was meant to be played" behind relics and a lot of them
>The vast majority of relics suck balls
>You also don't get many until you can reliably clear at least 2 floors
>It constantly punishes you for doing it at all with extreme amounts of debuffs, some of which are instantly run-ending or at least run-ending for most builds
>Enemies can and will shoot you from off-screen, so you need some form of auto-damage or distance damage to reliably do Sanctums, which of course limits you to Minions and T-shot (since it can hit everything even around corners)

I like how you didn't post a screenshot of your original sin to defend yourself from the accusation that you don't actually run sanctum yourself.
Sanctum sucks because it pigeonholes you into glass cannon low TTK builds and it's really punishing for builds that have any sort of damage ramp or limited reach. You don't need to pretend it's a nice and fair mechanic. It's a divine printer gatekept behind playing brands/hexblast mines/freeze.

That said, I think GGG has done a very good job with letting you pick the trials you like and giving them different rewards to reward players who run all kinds. Hell they announced changes to resolve/honor (damage mitigation actually working) so maybe it'll be less cringe.

I think you are underestimating how much work it is. Just the core supporter packs would need a team working exclusively on supporter pack armour sets. It can genuinely take months to take a design from paper to the game.

Seems fun, also like the spell damage leeched as life. Plus rings getting like 170 health on them is pog. Sadly, no life on the tree anymore is going to make life staking harder. My favorite build I did two leagues ago was a health stacking Relic of the Pact.

I feel like this is going to be the only playable caster pre-CI, with so much focus on boss fights where you have 1 life flask and no other good sources of sustain.

Yes, I agree I do think the demon form is a meme currently, seeing as you need life regen to sustain the form, but it looks cool. Ranger by far looks the worse. And I think a ton of people are really interested in Merc, especially exploding mod for 10% and the free 30%.

Supposedly, PoE2 is an empty rugpull, and Mark and Jonathan will tuck tail and run after they sell supporter packs. PoE2 is just a smoke and mirror show to sell supporter packs.

At the same time, they didn't have any supporter packs ready for EA, so had to delay 2 weeks to make them.

This makes absolutely no sense. If it was a smoke and mirror rugpull purely made to sell packs, the packs would have been ready.

You don't know the numbers at all and can't say one or the other. Melee being decent is merely up to numbers. If the defences and damage is sufficiently better than ranged equivalent, then melee is decent. If the numbers are not better, there is zero reason to play melee, because you give up range advantage with it.

If this is true, the game designers didn't have a clear idea what they were building until some months ago, so it really does make sense to not allocate devs into poe2 but rather into poe1 leagues. Also, they are 100% gonna reuse recent poe1 leagues content in poe2, so Jonathan technically wasn't lying when he said most of the devs were working on poe2 lol. The dev said that mostly artists were working on poe2, and it makes sense because they don't depend too much on game design decisions

I don't think Jonathan is acting in bad faith like the dev implied, but I can totally see it might be hell working with him. I might be coping tho
