To make the bond go up faster and thus easier to level up. If there was enough disapproval in the game I imagine it'd have the opposite effect but I think either Neve or Lucanis hardening is the only thing that limits bond growth.

Mythal is now Morrigan who happens to be friends with the Inquisitor, and a glowing statue in Rooks pocket. Those files they found might have been the few remnants left of Japlin, where the choice would have probably mattered more - if the Inquisitor drinks from the Well and asks Flemythal if he/she is her slave now, she answers with "I have no orders for you. Not yet." This during the same conversation where Flemeth says she will see Mythal avenged, meaning they definitely had something in mind for Mythal, still angry as fuck after centuries, and the one who drank from the Well. But as you say, this is completely irrelevant in Veilguard: they even let one of the companions mention Morrigan turning into a dragon to help the Inquisitor against Corypheus, meaning that's Bioware implied canon now.

People were curious to see where the choice would lead, it seemed pretty important. Theres not as much to do or interact with or explore. It's not as alive with activity. It's empty. It's a big space for 8 people. Even though spirits used to take refuge there, none come back. Can't interact with companions unless they have something to say. It's dark and the camera won't let you zoom in on tiny details outside of photo mode. Solas doesnt really have very many good gossipy secrets to uncover outside of the murals.

I do like how the lighting in the music room changes as you go on.

This is definitely a part of it. But also the Lighthouse is not fun to explore and learn the lay of the land. The first time I played Inquisition I didn't even find the Skyhold jail until halfway through the game. They said they think they made Skyhold too big and annoying to navigate but that was soulful to me. Yes its my big castle and it's full of MY people and I know the quickest route around to check up on all of them. The Lighthouse is too straightforward and there's no areas to explore that are just there for any reason other than for a member of the Team to be in. Also since everything's circular I always got turned around thinking the kitchen building was the main building and vice versa.

The Lighthouse feels very static in comparison. Sure, the companions chit chat and comment on your discoveries, they flirt with each other, some new codex entries pop up on occasion, but it all revolves around them, and you can't even talk to them and ask them about their lives, you have to wait for a stupid lamp to light up above their door to comment on your last mission. No spirit ever visits, the Caretaker is just there, and you don't really learn that much about Solas except for the regret murals, his diet, and a page about him finalizing his ritual in the last room you can unlock.

This was so confusing to me for a long time when I was playing VG. I got such whiplash having this characters foisted on me and not being able to learn anything about them in detail like you could in EVERY OTHER GAME. I always LIKED the part where you meet someone and and stand there for 20 minutes exhausting their dialogue wheel. Maybe people just hate reading these days but that was so immersive to me. VG felt like it was moving so fucking fast. Then I realized they replaced the "interrogate companion NPCs to learn about them" with a little sidequest thing that's basically an escort mission where Rook and the companion basically talk to each other without your input. Awful.

It's unclear how and why the Evanuris that died, actually died so who knows. I would understand having the dragon thralls make you immortal in the sense that, you cannot be killed while it is still alive. But if the gods were immortal in the first place it would imply that something or someone killed them in the prison after the horcrux was destroyed. Which makes no sense because why would imprisoned Evanuris kill each other? It's not clear.

The Frosty mod manager is in it's alpha for Veilguard. So far all that can be tweaked are textures. Meshes can be extracted but they can't seem to be tweaked. Or at least that's what I've heard. But I'm sure in due time they will come along.

It was the same issue back with Mass Effect Andromeda. I guess it was an intentional choice. Though a rather stupid one. I get it, eyes are the windows to the soul. But they can still be expressive at a smaller size. It's not like we're wishing to shrink them down that much.

Veilguard would have benefited greatly from ripping off the Elpis thing. In a world where this game was made for anyone with a brain and they actually presented the argument that what Solas is doing is valid because he is righting a wrong and trying to restore the world to the way it was, a sequence where you are allowed to see what ancient Elvehnan was like before the Veil would have been great. Solas has such fond memories of being at court, why not let the player see why for themselves. You would experience what the world he wishes to restore was like and judge for yourself if it's worth the cost. Ishikawa is a genius and the VG writers are a disgrace.

Trespasses was our Elpis kinda, then the memories in dav. But they could never deliver a good representation of the pre-veil world, showing it at all was a mistake.

Is it me or there are also fewer violent scenes? In Veilguard we get Bellara's brother launched against a pillar, Illario breaking Renata's neck, some Nevarran nobles getting their life siphoned out, a halla crushed in a blood ritual during the Venatori's party (with Neve telling Rook to look away, of course), but nothing really stood out, maybe because of the style or the execution of those scenes. While I still remember Samson's templars killing the elven sentinels in cold blood, with a templar drowning a sentinel by pressing his foot on his head into the water - and the Inquisitor could decide to execute the prisoners locked in Skyhold.

The broodmothers and the actual way different kinds of darkspawn are bred can never come back in the current vidya climate. Too many people would be triggered or find the whole thing "unnecessary". I beat Veilguard. That 3rd act is kind of rough. Companions, which are probably the worst of the series, aren't really utilized, and the only drama and permanent effect that happens is because Lucanis is scripted in two separate scenes to try and fail to assassinate someone from their peripheral fucking vision. The rest? Eh. It's alright, but Veilguard is a g ame that feels like it was prevented from being 'better than alright' for the wrong reasons.

The Lighthouse is a miserable experience: a series of beautiful views, picturesque corners of a magical tower suspended in the Fade, which has in aesthetics the only positive aspect, and once you get used to it, even that disappears.

The rooms and interactions with the companions are detached and cold: when they are not cutscenes with substantially pre-established outcomes, they are small dioramas where you go to visit these animatronic companions. The scenes are didactic and predictable, most of the characters are a cliché and the little screentime they have in these moments of rest are detrimental to the immersion.

The customization of the place is sparse and uninteresting even from the point of view of decor and clutter, with little personality; everything is disconnected, it seems like a small amusement park with various attractions: the necromancer's study, the dwarf's greenhouse, the..assassin's pantry?

As cool as the city line was, in general I think I like Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain a lot more than Corypheus if only because of how active they feel in the plot, with hands in every nation trying to fuck them up or subvert them, and the heroes encounters with them always feeling like a struggle.
Also that while they're heartless tyrants their own relationship with each other is surprisingly caring.

The lighthouse is horrid. Bioware is normally really great at their hub areas. Ebon Hawk, both Normandys, Skyhold, party camp was comfy, Hawkes mansion and the companions homes. Even the tempest in Andromeda was good. Lighthouse must be a live service left over because it feels far too empty like it was supposed to have shit constantly added to it.

Aesthetically it is very beautiful, and I always appreciate when events influence party tropes in a game: but the decorations, the themes of the lighthouse, are sterile and no one comments on it. Hell, no one (except for the initial 10 minutes) seems to talk about living in an ancient Lighthouse that was the home of a God, no one explains who or how they are fixing and renovating, and it always happens off screen; the characters are sitting in pre-established places like animatronics; the dialogues are inconclusive, they do not add anything to what the game does not already say during the quests, and even worse, we can only talk to others at moments decided by the game.

It seems more like being in a large office, with the various rooms where you can visit the other departments. And I agree with you, BioWare usually had the most comfy Hubs ever, it's incredible that they screwed up this one too

ME2 Normandy was pure kino and the Snow in Inquistion were super cool

I struggle to understand the appeal of momentary invulnerability outside of some very specific fights. Why would I count on getting hit if I'm already going to do my best to dodge? They probably had to justify the costs and expenses built up over years and years of development hell. Canceling a game after spending millions of dollars and a whole decade of work on it would have made the investors furious, and Bioware probably feared a bad reaction from the fans, too, since the last game pretty much ended with a cliffhanger, raising everyone's hopes for a grand finale. Pity Veilguard had the same effect, or even worse, since it flopped hard, it's being criticized even by woke journalists, and even the most loyal fans are disappointed and bitter as fuck.

Neve ought to have vastly more experience with demons logically speaking.

One is a fucking fortress city populated by mages and a standing military, where even the parliament equivalent is made up for trained mages. They have a fucking orbital firing platform. The Shadow Dragons are trained to fight the Venatori and are explicitly doing a better job of it by the time the choice is presented. Treviso is a city of merchants and nobles where the local assassins are explicitly shown to be struggling, and unlike Minrathous, it has no standing army; the dragon, blight, and Antaam are ALL turning that city into a killing field. Realistically it should end up worse than Minrathous even if you go there.
>Davrin or Harding lead the second party at the ritual island
It's new territory, immunity to the blight hasn't been a plot factor so we have no reason to choose Davrin for that, Harding is an actual scout who finally gets to do her fucking job, and her stone magic beats a griffon companion when fighting the assholes with actual cannons. Additionally, even if you're a Warden, we need at least one alive so putting Davrin in a position of risk is not tenable.

The in game reason is that it was originally a hub for scholars to share knowledge and wisdom, Solas copied the idea from on one of Elgar'nan's towers that had the same function, and you can hear Elgar'nan throw a sissy fit about it. They want it so bad because it's where the Vi'Revas is.

Then it became Solas' base in the Fade during his rebellion. I'm still disappointed we can't read any of the books in the library or admire some elven relics, even though you can tell Taash not to steal or ruin any, and Harding comments on the books once. You'd think the perfectly preserved elven base of Fen'Harel would be full of codex entries, stuff to read and find and study, but nope.

That actually dosen't make much sense for Tevinters version of slavery. SD Rook was a galley slave so there'd be tons of them around the port. Crem in Inquisition says there are state owned slaves doing things like clothes making so they'd probably be in the poorer areas as well

They would work there, especially at the docks where the ships are, or doing errands and buying stuff for their masters. Hell, you could see them everywhere in DA2, scurrying about in low town and in the slums where Anders' clinic was. You could even meet one in Val Royeaux in Inquisition, an elven slave who dreamed about the return of Mythal after your mission in the Arbor Wilds, with his master scolding him because his thrashing and crying had woken him up.

Probably dead, according to the new Bioware canon. Redcliffe and Denerim fall to the Blight, so the one you chose for the throne either dies or does a terrible job, no matter your choice. Same thing for Orlais, some nobles even side with the Venatori. Orzammar stops responding, so it probably fell too. The only companions we get some info about are Aveline, provisional Viscount now that Varric is dead, who brings Kirkwall's survivors to Sebastian in Starkhaven. No one else gets a mention, so you're free to imagine what you want - but all past companions' circumstances are now dire, because their homes are lost, they were unable to save them, so they're either dead, Blighted, or cooped up somewhere helping other survivors. Hardly the happy endings we envisioned for them in the past.
