The rest varies. I actually thought the game carried tension really well for the big set pieces - though in context is it tension between companions? As much as people talk about companions arguing or whatever it always depended on who you had with you and it never was at a point like Baldur's Gate where your followers might come to blows with each other.

I'm so disappointed. Veilguard is a bad game and anyone saying otherwise has no taste. This dialogue is insipid and I've already noticed several plot holes. Not to mention retcons to the lore because they couldn't be assed to do it right. What a disappointment. Especially after last year having a strong rpg that won every award, this year we get a major letdown. Anyone saying this game is good is straight up lying or delusional. Nobody wanted this game to be good more than me, I've been an avid fan since the first game and I even liked 2 and 3 despite their flaws. I was ready to love this game despite the expected flaws just like I did with Inquisition, but it's so much worse than I assumed. I can't believe how far Bioware has fallen, and I say that as someone who sat on the internet defending them and saying give them another chance for years. I don't want to be overly dramatic but I legitimately don't see how they're going to make any good games in the future going forward without a major change in personnel.

>>503001349 Well, you could tell him you agreed with his goals if you were an elf (even a non Solavellan one if I'm not mistaken), and Trespasser did build up the whole thing about elves following Solas because they agreed with his plans.
It's because it IS objectively the best thing for a people who is naturally tied to the Fade, a people who is made of magic and whose ancestors were spirits, the same spirits who are hunted and turned into demons due to the Veil dividing the world from the Fade and creating all kinds of bias and fears in the common populace.
Charter herself acknowledges this when Solas tells her elves will find the new world a better one, but she has a human lover she doesn't want to lose, so she wants to help stop him. Of course a majority of the characters see it as a bad thing, because it will cause the downfall of the human civilization and many people will die before adjustments can be made - but Sandal himself had predicted the Veil's fall, with magic coming back and "everyone being just as they were" (so probably the dwarves would have rejoined the Titans, too): Bioware was just too scared to commit and offer this other possible ending, which would have rebooted the series way better than the South being gone and the Executors being the cause of everything ever could.

>>503010767 He's actually making VG look even worse kek. Inquisition had its faults, I will never deny that, but it had great care and love poured into it. Just look at the zones, it's evident the team had a lot of fun designing them, making them feel real - VG's zones are a mess, difficult to navigate, hiding not narrative designs, but treasure chests, 1+ skill point, and dumb puzzles like a game from the 2008s. Inquisition's dialogues and banters were pretty good most of the time; those in VG are dull, boring, and it really feel like the PR department was there in the writers' room, making sure nothing offensive or too heavy came out.
Inquisition was made for the old fans who knew and loved the series, as Gaider's words confirm; VG was made to lure in new players with the promise of "delivering a fantastic singleplayer experience set in a rich fantasy world where you can be who you want to be", all empty words to entice teens who never even heard of the series before.

Elgar'nan eventually turned into a demon of Tyranny, but at the start he was probably a spirit of Benevolence or Generosity (he always talks about gifts and favors). Power + the Blight did the rest, but some traces of goodness remain, and he and Ghilan'nain are pretty much alone in a new, strange world, ruin of their old one, so I think it's natural for them to care for the closest thing they've left of family.

That he would lead them in a rebellion against the bad humans while he was busy planning for... for what? The only thing that could have convinced all those elves to leave their homes and jobs was the Veil finally coming down and giving the elves their immortality and full powers back. >"It left a scar when he burned her off his face." So was Solas being a slave branded with vallaslin retconned/changed? I always assumed he was a slave who rose to favour during the war with the Titans and was allowed to become part of the Evanuris, like Ghilan'nain, but that doesn't make sense with the story they revealed now, since Solas walked away from the Evanuris as soon as they rose to power, so before they got slaves.

>>503094623 Him being branded with vallaslin was never retconned but it was also never brought up in VG. But he still has his scar, so. I could imagine that for Mythal's followers you could see the vallaslin as more of a sign of their devotion to her and her ideals and a misguided way of worshipping her. I don't think Solas would have called her "the best of them" if she was just as abhorrent regarding slavery, the thing Solas arguably hates the most. It could make sense if they wanted it to they just don't bother explaining it. I'm inclined to believe this because (in my interpretation) Felassan is still speaking favorably of Mythal to his literal dying breath.

>I don't think Solas would have called her "the best of them" if she was just as abhorrent regarding slavery It's easy being "the best of them" when the others are a bunch of tyrannical corrupted slavers. He also says "All Evanuris were terrible in their own ways, but Elgar'nan was the worst", so he is aware Mythal had some serious issues, too. Morrigan confirms this when she calls her "prickly": wanting to rule, but not wanting mindless drones as slaves (and she even came up with the puzzles in her temples because she wanted to see who could use their brain); ready to show favor but only to those she deemed worthy enough, and hating to be proven wrong. Her Benevolence was quick to turn to Retribution.

I was expecting something similar in a game where we can visit Arlathan, with the Dread Wolf and the elven gods as its focus, but nope. All I can remember are Minrathous' elven street names, Bellara and Harding talking about the same lullaby we found in Trespasser, and Rook teaching Isabela some elven.
I was also looking forward to reading more about ancient elven life, like the memories you can find in the library in Trespasser, but instead we just got a few letters between Solas and Ghilan'nain and Elgar'nan and little else.
