The writers cut out a whole deep-rooted bulb of plot stemming from at least DA2 just because they didn't want anyone's goals to align with Solas' in Veilguard so everything was easy black and white. But they fully fucked over Flemythal, and Morrigan too, in my opinion, in the process. All that buildup down the drain. I see dumbasses saying they messed up Flemythal in service of Solas when Solas and his story were also victims of this fuckery. He was just partially kneecapped by their choices while Mythal was straight up retconned out of her main motivation for clawing her way through the ages. No character or player benefitted from the hugbox.

I don't like how the game repeatedly states that until each member's personal issues have been resolved, you can't focus on the fight, but rather that you need to take all the time in the world to make sure all your friends are okay. It's self-indulgent, it kills the sense of urgency and epicness in the last chapter of the saga, not to mention the fact that it's unrealistic for serious events to wait until everyone has dealt with their own problems. This also makes the Veilguard (by the way, I don't know if they ever refer to themselves as "Veilguard" anyway) a group of amateurs who, without any connection to the previous episodes, inherit the fight against Solas and the gods. It makes no sense, neither for those who are just starting out, nor for those who wanted to see the end of the saga.

I didn't know whether to cry or laugh when "Varric" comments on the blade looking like the idol just because the circle at the top "is the same", it sounded so far-fetched. >>502818270 I would have preferred the Blight not to be the angry dreams of the Titans, but a biological weapon they used to defend themselves from the elves, the red lyrium being some sort of virus to stop the elves from mining their bodies that they lost control of, tragically infecting themselves and their dwarves.
Looking back, knowing what we know now, the darkspawn look way less menacing - they aren't creatures destroyed from within by an illness no one can understand, by a plague belonging to a completely different organism, but mutants simply driven by the angry dreams of some giants rocks; and before Veilguard killed all kinds of established lore, we even had a cure for it (see Cassandra quest).

It’s pretty obvious the team went into this game even all the way back a decade ago knowing that this would probably be the last game they would work on.
