People play vanilla classic for the level up process, ranking as a community, and to prep for MC. Then gear up in MC/continue to rank. BWL is the final stage. People start quitting then because they're finishing up where they're going to stop ranking, and BWL leads to AQ which most people don't give a shit about. The fresh ends when the AQ events start.
The year long idea is the best way to go about it because when everyone quits at AQ, it will give 6 months for people to get rehyped about the new fresh at the end of the year. That's how it should go.
