Fors has no threatening, immediate forward hitbox when he's recovering. You can just go off stage and swing at him and kill him if he tries to do that slow ass dash. Meanwhile Kragg has the best fair in the game if you try to fuck with him before he even dips his toes into his 70 different recovery options.

I've finally figured out how to beat the super lame 1050 clairens. You just have to play an incredibly long 13 minute set where you just sit on the platforms fishing for a fair into grab but ONLY and ONLY when the time is right. This is the only viable option for beating them. Playing a normal, fun match will not do. The floor is HOT LAVA if I want to win. It wont be any fun but hey at least I'll finally win.

This does get partly remedied after already having a few rivals players on your friendlist, because then chances are you two have at least one mutual friend and their profile pops up first in the search results. First off, I will start by saying that I think Melee is a better game. Everything in Melee just feels better. It has a much better gamefeel than PM. That's why I went from PM, to Melee, and then stayed at Melee. That, and the fact that PM "died". If PM was in Melee's engine, I think it would be better than Melee, but PM is in Brawl's engine, and while it still feels good, Melee feels better.

Let me preface this by saying I'm one of the "Old Smash Players" that have just landed on the shores of Rivals of Aether 2. I grew up playing every release since the original. Those were the days I played well enough to wash all my buddies. So often did I win that my playgroup stopped playing Smash with me. I was nothing compared to competitive players, but definitely the best player I knew.

Ultimate came out and I kicked that around for a little. But the online was ass, especially at the start. And I fell off. That was the last plat-fighter I ever picked up.

Until Rivals of Ether 2...

But, although a lot of my fundamentals translated, something wasn't right. My movement wasn't great. My attacks weren't coming out or they inputs were dropping. And I was losing stocks to SDs and others that I shouldn't. I was playing on a big standard Xbox controller on PC and steam deck. And they weren't 1 to 1 experiences either. So I bought a GC controller and adapter.

The effect was night and day. Dash dancing and movement returned. The sticks were more responsive going back to neutral as soon as my thumb leaves them. Nairs came out more reliably and dash dancing was more responsive. My old melee muscle memory was there and relearning the controller was quick. And now I feel more confident in my abilities.

Tl;Dr:

GameCube controller has better input registration to crappy PC controller.

This game is alright, but it's no Melee, that's for sure. One thing I miss the most is the GameCube controller.

The noises the GameCube controller made while you were using it imparted an air of satisfying pleasure.
It just felt and sounded totally quality, and it made you enjoy yourself... more? Like you were happy and satisfied with this product in every conceivable way.
The click-clack of the analogue L-R buttons, the clunk-click-thock of the analogue & C-stick, the squishiness of the START button, the crisp button presses of A, B, Y, X & Z... the way it sat in your hand, the weight and heft of it, the rumble, the soft plastic matte of the cable, the way it plugged into the console itself; oh man, just pure ecstacy and utter gaming pleasure.

It felt like Nintendo respected you.

Melee vs Rivals.

Melee:
Recovery and edge guarding is satisfying on both ends and takes skill.
Shield pressure is actually balanced with room for both offense and defense.
Stages aren't the size of Africa and a smaller stage pool means the opponent can't cheese you by picking a similar stage to the ones you ban.
The top 13 or so characters all are fun to play and there's a niche for everyone. Meanwhile Rivals has 10 characters and many people struggle to find a main because the roster is so polarizing and shit.
Said characters aren't built to just spam a certain gimmick over and over and feel nice to play.
No retarded forced mixup pummel system.
No cheesy special and ledge getups.

Rivals 2:
Ummm. It's easier to get into cuz no l-cancelling and wave dashing is free? Yay! (don't mind the fact that the game is full of hidden mechanics you need to research)
Everyone is l-le viable! (don't mind the fact that melee's top 13 or so are better designed and more divergent than this game's 10)

I generally think Kragg is fine, but they should really nerf the everloving shit out of his pillarless up-B. There's nothing wrong with it popping him up, but it should absolutely kill his forward momentum. Characters should not be rewarded with a more dynamic recovery when they're actually in disadvantage off-stage. This applies to Orcane's up-B without puddle as well.
He's my 2nd most played character, by the way.

I think it's funny that the brothers Burn both have a move that's borderline broken due to how inconsistent it is (Forsburn's being ustrong). Terrible game design. He's a Sheik knock off and melee Sheik wasn't the fastest fucker with perfect movement on the ground. far from it. She was the 4th fastest in terms of raw speed and had a terrible dash length leading to an almost non existent dash dance game. Can these tard devs do anything right? I think it's pretty clear there's a Sheik main on the team who's seething about how she jobbed to fox for a decade straight.

Sheik has gradually fallen into this secondary role of covering MUs that players dislike.

I don't understand what's wrong with giving the Sheik-like character tech that elevates the character beyond being a brain dead n00bstomper. Is it just because it's not like Melee, and another character archetype is allowed to be good? Clairen's clearly not as good as Marth, and Zetterburn isn't as good as Fox. Are those also problems?

Also all of the hard shit from Sheik is gone with Ranno. You can RTC and be 80, he's able to get absurd combo strings and negate his bad air game with hit falling, his recovery is basically impossible to flowchart edge guard unlike sheik, his forward smash is broken, etc etc. The archetype on which he is built is cancer and they somehow managed to make the the cancer fucking full body and terminal. I say delete him or rework him from the ground up to play more like Samus. Shit is a blight on this game.

A "puma" is very specifically a cougar. Same thing. A "panther" is a broader term that encompasses large predatory cats like cougars, leopards, and jaguars. She is definitely a panther, but you have no idea if she is a puma/cougar.

Edge guarding just isn't a thing in this game. Fleet should have died like 8 times every stock. And then the flipside of this is that Fleet floats off the ledge and hits you into the blast zone completely safely with a single attack, or she down airs you with probably the best disjoint in the game.

I think Ranno is stupid good on stage, but with all the unsuccessful and pointless edge guards, I'm starting to think that doesn't really matter. Fleet, Kragg, Wrastor, and Lox to an extent can all just carry you into the blast zone with hitboxes. It might be more important to be good at the aspect of the game (edge guarding) that the rest of the cast just can't really play.

It's a fundamental game issue that hopefully the December patch will fix. When you watch a Ranno edge guard a Fleet for like a solid minute to no avail, and then the Fleet floats into the blast zone for free to secure a kill, it's just obvious the game is fucked up and recoveries are too good.

Good on the Fleet for being able to be in a state of recovery for so long, but bad on the game for that even being a possibility.

In the defense of rivalstrannies, Rivals 1 looks more like Melee than Rivals 2 does. I didn't play it because when I plugged my GC and adapter in it didn't work back when it first came out and that was the deal breaker for me. Recoveries WILL be nerfed. Dan knows that the melee and PM scene are what's keeping their game from turning into a discord fighter. I just checked the leaderboards. There are literally 3 people in the top 50 that actually plays ranked frequently. There is hax, jchu the pikachu player, and phorox the doctor mario player. If you are a high elo player and want to play melee right now, you have to ask yourself. Do I really want to play against hax for the 600th time, or the pikachu player for the 100th time, or do I play the fucking doctor mario for the 50th time? Do I really want to do this right now?
I am starting to think if rivals 2 succeeds melee will ACTUALLY die. NO ONE is playing ranked in high elo right now, aside from those three people. See for yourself https://slippi.gg/leaderboards
Everyone else just plays a few games here and there and leaves it at that or they havent played in months. The rank 1 player has played 1300+ games and the rank 2 player has barely played over 100 games. That is how dead high elo is right now. It probably takes 10+ minutes to find a match right now in high elo.

1.) You only get ledge invincibility on your first and second ledge grabs before touching the ground.

One character-specific change to reflect these universal changes:

btw Rushdown Revolt did that in a patch to good results. That patch also made several attacks with horizontal trajectories become horizontal+slightly downward. Made offstage proper scary.

The thing about Rivals 2 is that it's very easy to get into and you'll learn a lot from merely playing the game as long as you've never received a botched lobotomy. I say "the thing" because some people perceive the ease of some tech skill and of executing strings and combos a flaw. Play ranked, get your ass kicked, think about why you got your ass kicked, play more ranked. Or casual, since it has MMR too and you basically use it to play more than 1 set with people.

shine is a pretty good approach option, you can run into them and do it or fastfall into them and do it. from there it's up to your imagination, you can jump and do an aerial to either hit them / their shield, or you can jump cancel into a grab
if you're struggling to get close enough to shine that means they're swinging a lot, so you can either run in with a sliding shield and grab them, or parry them
