I didn't get past the first season because it was a way too slow, monster of the week show for little kids. I get liking it if you were in the target audience when you first watched it, but it doesn't hold up as an adult. I could say similar about Sakura, but that show was shorter and better throughout. No offense, but I can't rid myself of the suspicion that when people namedrop these old shows it isn't just an attempt at flexing about how cool and oldfag they are. The only magical girl shows I found decent were the ones aimed at older otaku audiences like Nanoha, Prillya and maybe Yuki Yuuna.

I know I took an accusatory tone, but these opinions legitimately puzzle me, which is why I tend to assume bias. Most of the things I like in mahou shoujo series are, I feel, subjective preferences, but Madoka seems to me good in a very objective sense. It's good in almost every dimension. Plot, themes, pacing, direction, music, visuals, you name it. When someone claims it is bad I just can't see how that could possibly be an objective take. And then to claim something like Sailor Moon is better? I just can't understand that.

Usually when someone say a series is bad they really mean "this series did not cater for me or my taste so I couldn't enjoy it." Which is a fair stance. Anime is an art form that became a commodity but it still requires the ability to resonate with the consumer for it to become successful or enjoyable. Same goes for people who can't stomach anime art style or Japanese singing voices. I managed to get all the way through to Intervallo 3 without using anything but the base characters.
I just got a bit impatient but at that point I had a competent roster via just gathering resources.

That being said I do think it'd be a better game if it was monetized like say 100% orange juice but I can say it does gache right due to how anti FOMO it is.
