That's clown shit. So Ranno legit has an aerial that leads to mixups high up on shield in a game where shield pressure of any kind is scarce. That would be dishonest in games where shields are shit, let alone in this stupid game. Like there is no character I can think of in melee that isn't massively punishable for attacking that high up on shield, even a Peach float cancel that high up will be risky. If he was properly designed you could drop shield on hit one and parry the following hits of dair and kill him every time.

Yes, and? If you're not confident in parrying him, just anti-air him. Worst case scenario, he counters your anti-air with nair and converts it into something. You're talking like you're completely inactionable in neutral and you just have to let Ranno hit your shield with a fucking frame 15 aerial. I think that's actually the slowest aerial in the game, tied with Clairen's uair and dair and Lox's dair. Maybe I'm forgetting a slower one.

Ranno is also typically facing forward when he dairs, meaning he doesn't have access to his safest aerial, spaced bair.

I've been thinking about Forsburn tactics lately. Why don't good players use his empowered smoke more, especially when the opponent is respawning? It's essentially the ultimate fuck you to the opponent's invincibility. Think about it. When the opponent respawns they typically get to chase your ass off of center at best and at worst they hit you and fuck you up. Now I'm forsburn.
>maintain center stage
>wait for the opponent to drop from platform
>double jump high up and maybe even air dodge for extra height
>activate empowered smokescreen
>up b
> use my double jump again
>activate clone
>drop on the opponent's head with the clone (they don't know which one you are) and their invincibility has been wasted

Fors is the best character in the game at approaching, shield pressure, and mixups when his clone is up. It's like I actually get to play melee for a second with how much the opponent has to respect me.

I actually don't agree with this. Fair and dair are exceptional. They are both big, disjointed and safe on shield + CC when done properly and are great kill moves too. His jabs, down tilt, and f-smash are also excellent keep out tools. I am a certified Forsburn believer and the fact that he's probably getting buffs is scary. Maybe they'll beef up his nair a bit because I think Rival 1 boomers say it's not as cool as it used to be.

I had a ton of fun last night playing casual 1v1s with a random Orcane main. He also had a good zetter. We probably played for an hour, and I switched through all 5 of the characters I play. He didn't get salty or ragequit or anything. Definitely learned a lot from playing with him, I think he learned a lot from playing with me too

Why do so many Zetters rarely use his neutral air? I'd go so far as to say it's his best move. Difficult to punish, combos into shit, catches spot dodges which conditions your opponent into shielding more so you can grab them, etc.

idk, i just tested it and it doesn't do the last hit knockback, it kind of just spits them out slightly to the right or left. not far enough that you can't just immediately shine them. depending on frame data, might be able to just shine them into whatever confirm you want.

I think heavies should not have mashing as a part of their upclose gameplan. It is literally in both of the heavies design to just mash tilts cancelling them (which makes them, heavies, attack even faster for whatever reason) into more tilts. Whenever I'm upclose to my opponent and hes fucking me up I can tell on the other side of his screen hes literally just pressing random buttons. The fact that this works makes me worry about this games future. People are going to get sick of this bullshit and leave (justifiably so).

How do you walljump right after letting go of edge?

The technique in Rivals 2 doesn't require you to crouch or anything like this RAWR you speak of. you literally can just act out of your turnaround instantly and cancel it with a jump. Try it in training mode.

I think Rivals 2 just attracted a bunch of obnoxious individuals who want an easy trolling target. The type of shitposting I've been seeing after release is way to persistent and virulent to be described as criticism, or even fandom Rivalry. It's like a campaign to convince people that the game is bad and not worth playing, no one is even allowed to enjoy it or the things around it.
Mang0 having some well know criticism is just used as a catalyst for even more trolling, and him being salty about Rivals 1 players makes it even worse.

It's a shame really. Both thread on /v/ and /vg/ suffer the same type of posters, you can't get away from them at all.

no, i think it's reasonable to say that there exists a definite class of zoomer meleefag that stubbornly refuse to try anything else in the genre. Shine an enemy or their shield + short hop and immediately down air is a good way to initiate. Zetter's shine can send people in many different ways, so you have to pay attention and be aware of where its going to pop them up.

For example, lets say you hit them with the top right corner of your shine, its going to send them up and to the right too, so you could forward air then and potentially hit a sweet spot. Sometimes shine will send people higher, and its actually a good way to get up airs. Sweet spot up air is directly between Zetter's claws when he initiates the attack - its right above his head, and again, at the beginning of the attack only will it hit strong. After hitting someone with shine + a short hop arial, you can always fast fall back down and try to chase. Remember that shine sets people on fire, so if you continue chasing them after hitting them, you might be able to land a strong smash attack. Any of them are good but they can be situational. Forward smash is great for punishing whiffed attacks and bad spacing, as well as being able to give you that extra bit of range to reach someone who's too far away. Down smash covers a lot of ground and starts behind you, so if you're trying to chase someone who's teching and rolling away from you, a well timed downsmash will catch them out of their roll. Up smash is very good, but a lot less generous than the prior two and much easier to miss with. But when you get good with it, its your best friend. Hitting people from under platforms, catching people off guard if they don't DI away after you down throw them, stopping people from trying to land back on the stage, and even smothering out people who are trying to short hop near you out of shield. All the smash attacks can kill around 100-120% when people are on fire provided you're at a reasonable distance from a blast zone.

Back to shines, another good mixup you can do is starting with a full hop into your opponent, and shine right inside of them. Whether or not they block it doesn't matter, but after you shine on them be ready to immediately down air. If they were shined and you correctly spaced your down air, they'll be knocked down and set up for tech chase follow ups. If they blocked the shine, but tried to punish you for it, your down air should catch them, and either pop them up for a forward air or up air - or again put them in a hard knockdown state.

If you aren't facing someone, shine back air can be good too, especially if your opponent starts DIing in - you'll be able to continue shine + short hop back air OR after bouncing them up you can do a quick turn around upsmash, which will fuck them up because they'll be on fire from either your shine or your back air, because that also sets people on fire.

After hitting master gotta say… people really just only play one way in this game. There is very little to no mix since certain mechanics are just busted and almost impossible to contest.

The combo and playstyle diversity is not great. Especially when you compare to rivals 1.

Between having characters who have too good of frame data to having kill confirms from 40 is a little sad. Cuz thats all anyone will go for. Not to mention the amount of hitstun you are in is crazy. So much so your opponent can whiff multiple moves in a combo and still get a true hit.

Being at 50 or less is all amount cc/fh into punishing anything your opponent does.
40 and up is where things start to kill.
Most of the cast has some string 0-60 combos, but that doesnt feel good at all considering you can get that off of a “50-50” throw.

Then that same grab will net a kill only a few more percent later. So everyone and their grandma does throw into combo/kill.

Off stage is practically non-existent since ledges are a strong place to be. To the point where you have to respect your opponent when at ledge. Remove iframes if a regrab occurs or somethin. Ledge shouldnt be a strong part of stage. It should be disadvantage. Why go off stage completely when you can just grab for iframes and bair?

Or if you are a characters with a low hitting attack just spam that.

Once ya hit 150 it becomes a slow campfest.

If there was whifflag and drift di, combos might actually feel different.

Parry also being garbage, might as well remove it since ya dont wanna make it better.

I don't normally throw out projectiles predictably. I just try to avoid constantly rushing in, because I find it's easily parried / slapped away with disjoints. Sometimes I'll take a little "break" to just move around a bit and try to find an opening.

This game is alright, but it's no Melee, that's for sure. One thing I miss the most is the GameCube controller.

The noises the GameCube controller made while you were using it imparted an air of satisfying pleasure.
It just felt and sounded totally quality, and it made you enjoy yourself... more? Like you were happy and satisfied with this product in every conceivable way.
The click-clack of the analogue L-R buttons, the clunk-click-thock of the analogue & C-stick, the squishiness of the START button, the crisp button presses of A, B, Y, X & Z... the way it sat in your hand, the weight and heft of it, the rumble, the soft plastic matte of the cable, the way it plugged into the console itself; oh man, just pure ecstacy and utter gaming pleasure.

It felt like Nintendo respected you.

I don't think these nerfs are good if you're considering Ranno's character archetype. He needs aerials that can be safe on shield and easy to convert off of because 1.) his low air speed makes getting in against a competent opponent more difficult and 2.) he's the hitfall character. He needs needles to be a safe because, again, his low air speed makes it easy for characters with disjoints (Clairen, Fleet, Lox) to keep him out by playing passively. Needles are pretty much how you win the Clairen and Fleet MUs - Lox's disadvantage state and weakness to pressure is bad enough that you don't need needles for him - and it would be sheer misery if they were even easier to deal with. Just shield needles, the risk:reward is intentionally bad for parrying fast, weak projectiles.

I don't think I'd mind, because it's really too good and it isn't like Ranno struggles any harder than other characters to kill off of either stray hits or confirms without it.

I think the only disadvantage you can actively give yourself with a stage pick is picking a stage with high platforms close to the edge because you're giving people an easier way to go deep offstage, knock your pillar out from underneath you, and get back.

i play zetter and i dont really think about stages that much. i try to avoid big stages as a general rule but if im playing against Clairen, Lox, or anyone with a lot of range I avoid Hodojo because those characters can just sit under platforms and mess you up.

my favorite stage is aetherian forest only because i just really like this song so i pick this stage 90% of the time. it also helps that its a small stage, i dont like to give a lot of space or room to my opponents

Game has greenscreen and free camera. You can also do it in training mode.
In replays you can make some silly camera movements by setting keyframes and positions and its actually quite advanced, but also janky and buggy.

He played Xbone for a bit, switched to Gamecube after an hour cuz he hated it, then the next day he got a Gamesir, and switch back to Gamecube ater an hour cuz he hated it. I don't think that happened, because I heard him say multiple times that it's not for him but he's glad he has a new controller for emulators, but I also didn't watch all of the stream.

There's no counter argument to rivalstranny screeching. You're just a rivalstranny screeching because you have a chip on your shoulder. Gamecube controller just feels better. It's one of the most ergonomic controllers ever designed.

- You don't even use the fucking dpad in Smash games
- Doesn't even matter that it doesn't have a 2nd left shoulder button; more buttons is not inherently better
- a smaller "nub" c stick is the superior feel for smash attacks and aerials
- the button arrangement is very ergonomically designed and feels great for smash; i don't prefer it for general emulation though, just specifically smash games
- also doesn't matter; you definitely don't press select here, and you usually don't press select in any game, and in modern games, the select button is now an "options" button that is usually cloud/stream/media features rather than anything to do with the game

You're gonna say "that doesn't count" and keep screeching though because you're just a shitposting rivalstranny.

This is a Rivals thread, rivalstranny. We're talking about using a Gamecube controller for Smash. When I'm emulating or playing just a random game, I use a PS4 controller. When I'm playins Smash though, there is no better controller than a Gamecube controller. All of its "flaws" become perks when you're playing Smash with it.

I have """unflawed""" controllers I can use for Smash, but they don't feel as good to play Smash on. They don't have the nub C stick, they don't have the button placement, they don't have the really nicely ergonomically designed handlebars. No controller can compete with the Gamecube for how good it feels to play Smash on.

Arthritis is based purely on genetics. Your joints can get so deformed that you can't bend fingers properly. What you're probably thinking about is CTS. (Have JIArthritis myself, can still play rivals in 30s )
