It's way worse. ME3 ending was glued to a decent-ish game. The main plot was shit, but at least it didn't retroactively destroy every possible aspect of the lore. DAV feels like being slapped in the face every time someone opens the mouth to speak.

You either don't understand what is being criticized or you're being dense on purpose. The world has no weight or credibility because it doesn't respect the lore or tone established by the previous DAs, in fact it actively shits on it, and southern Thedas getting blighted so they can wipe the slate clean is just the cherry on the shit cake.

PG-13 movies can feature death and "adult" themes but only in the context of a safe and sterilized story that won't traumatize kids. You know what's not PG-13? Slavery. Racism. Religious oppression. All things that were magically erased in this game so Bellara can have tea and biscuits with her new best friends and Taash can be misgendered. Much more important things.

The background took so much room and that surprised me the most. So it's no longer a roleplaying game. Rook is by far the most bland and 2-dimensional DA protagonist ever and you're not allowed to ever question or challenge a companion's values. Everyone is best friends with each other 2 minutes after meeting and they hold hands and they save the world. It's a nice Disney movie.

What about that shitty village you go to in the beginning of the game, where blight has taken over and the mayor sacrificed everyone in the village to the 2 gods just so he could get some cash? What about the dude being held as a tentacle monster at the center of the town slowly dying when we arrive there?
What about the wardens being massacred and almost erased from the planet?
What about Anaris turning Bellara's friends into demons?
What about Taash's mom dying in front of her?

I went into ME2 after not playing ME1 and they made a sort of in game comic so you could be informed about and pick major choices. Dragon Age as a concept seems made for something like that. Would hav been a better send off for Varric if they had him narrate it than what Veilguard actually did

His regret is Varric dying, and literally freeing the Elven gods that caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands most likely even though it wasnt their intentions. One thing I hate about this game is they mention "gods" a lot that it kind of took the meaning away.
Elgarnan and Ghilanain are supposed to be these god-like entities that predates current Thedas but now I can't help but feel like they're no less villains than Samson or Calpernia.

I'm honestly curious if Treviso's role in the story was an outgrowth of the work put into Minrathous during preproduction. Emmerich and Davrin's stories are both themed around death and mortality while trying to do right by their "son".

Neve and Lucanis both feel they are the only ones who can protect their city.

Harding and Taash both are dealing with powers they don't understand. They are both also struggle with not knowing who they are. Taash with "gender stuff" and Harding people pleasing to make people like her.

Where does that leave Bellara? Bellara is your parallel, but you wont know that until the end. She is actually the biggest give away to the twist. She believes her brother is dead, but finds out he's actually alive. She also becomes a writer who is obviously writing your story. We now know that Rook believes their mentor is alive, but he's been dead the whole time. Since he is no longer around, Bellara takes on his role to tell Rooks story.

The story does actually come together at the end. They just needed better dialogue.

Also theses character's will romance each other if you don't romance them. Bellara is actually for you so if you romance anybody else you are disrupting destiny. She is the only correct choice.

All you really did was change guilt to delusion for Rook. Rook expresses multiple times they feel guilty about what happened at the ritual. Did you also miss that the entire sequence leading up to the Varric reveal was about Rook's guilt over Harding/Davrin and Bellara/Neve? The voices you hear in the fade are blatantly telling you that you are guilty and it's all your fault. Both Bellara and Rook are trying to prove themselves as a worthy replacement for their fallen Mentor. Bellara believes her Mentor, her brother, is dead while we believe ours is alive. Bellara takes on the role of Narrator, after we lose ours.

Emmerich yes, Davrin no. Too much of Davrins character is tied to the griffon and his nonstop whittling during the team meetings comes off as disrespectful. The Inquisitor will send you more letters after that, and each one is worse than the previous one. Denerim is lost (and the game doesn't even tell you what happened to its ruler) and Redcliffe is barely surviving. Yeah, but the South is pretty much gone at this point, countless people died/already got blighted before Solas' intervention, fields and cities and towns completely ruined. Also we don't know how effective his soothing will be - the Blight might calm down in one zone, while erupting in another, he can't keep his attention on each Titan's dreams all at the same time, even with Lavellan at his side.

In any case, it's obvious they don't want to have anything to do with Thedas anymore, they are definitely setting the next game in the Executors' continent beyond the sea. Still, if they wanted to reboot the series, they could have at least let the Veil fall, it would have been way more interesting.

Unfortunately it's the only way for the new writers and devs to keep working on the series, it has become too full of possible outcomes, different choices and possibilities for them to keep a decent track of. Compared to the empty shell we've got with Veilguard, Inquisition was massive in terms of safeguarding past choices: they included different voiced lines for Fiona talking about Alistair, for Morrigan and Kieran's two possible natures (normal child/Old God child), her conversations with each different father, Warden Loghain (the least popular worldstate from DAO), a completely new cutscene with Flemeth if Morrigan had Kieran etc.

But there were better ways to do a world state nuke. Cole, the Divine of your choosing, Dorian, Morrigan and Isabela were supposed to return, with Cole offering help depending on his nature (more human/more spirit), Dorian, Morrigan, and Isabela acting as bridges for their games, and the Divine giving you a different armada depending on who she was. The Inquisitor also would have had a major role, which would change depending on whether the Inquisition had been disbanded or chantrizied.

I don't think Rook is lovable. I don't think Rook is anything. There are so many instances in the other games I can think of where something happened to the protagonist and it made me feel something for them. Like Hawke finding her mother, sympathizing with the weight on the Inquisitor's shoulders as countless people dump their different expectations on her, how sad I was when she got dumped and wishing I could give her a hug. Rook made me feel nothing except annoyed sometimes at the fact that they needed things explained to them that I as a Dragon Age fan already knew. Idk

I think Inquisitor has a compelling story, as human or elf at least. If you're an andrastian and let yourself believe you're actually chosen by andraste you get crushed later in game. Lavellan gets her whole culture and religion upended plus has to deal with standard racism and can potentially be stubborn and refuse the andrastian religious mantle that gets thrown over her at every point, to be vindicated later as she was correct, not to mention romanced solas.Then trespasser and the anchor, the fear of dying and the political bullshit, even the discovery and parallels with the first inquisiton in jaws of hakkon are impactful. Inquisitor is a better character that seems at first glance, I think people sideline them because they're not as edgy as hawke or the warden.

Inquisitor gets to be a little more 'normal', too. Romances have cute breather episodes, two of female Inquisitor's romances lead into marriage. Warden and Hawke didn't have that. The first at least makes sense because no time for that, while it was a clear oversight in Hawke's story since it takes place over a long span.

You need to recruit all companions to do the main quest, there's no side companions like in Inquisition.

You have a few forced conversations with Taash. One in which she complains about being a woman when you go to the kitchen to continue the main quest.

You also have the forced "she identifies as them now" since it's also part of the main quest.

However outside of that you never have to speak with her or do her quests, that means of course she will die and you won't be able to get the cover game armor unless you cheat it in.

BUt you can avoid it, with some forced scenes sadly.
