What about the HoF's search for a cure? Why aren't the voices from the Well of Sorrows being used to know more about the gods and predict their next move? Where is Solas' army, those elves who abandoned their jobs to disappear into the woods, following his call? Where are Abelas and his sentinels?

There is even a letter from Harding to Taash explaining how the South works, and Divine Victoria's templars are mentioned, completely disregarding the world state of those who made Leliana Divine.

Kind of hilarious when you think about it. The south has, no leaders, no religion, and barely any people still alive, never mind poisoned everything from super blight. Post apocalyptic doesn't cut it. Earth post Mass effect 3 destruction ending was in a better shape.

It depends on the strength of your factions and whether you did your companions' quests. In any case, the first choice you make at the start of the final fight Davrin or Hardingis gonna die no matter what. All the other companions chosen for the next steps can survive if they became Hero of the Veilguard (personal quest complete) and you assign them to the right mission. Think of it as ME2 suicide mission.

But if your factions' strength is low, you didn't do the Regrets of the Dread Wolf quest + the Inquisitor didn't romance Solas, then Solas will insist in tearing down the Veil. Solas kills/turn to stone Rook's weak companions, so Rook attacks him and holds him while locking them both into the Fade prison, ensuring their life force is tied to it and they can never escape, so the Veil won't fall down.

Unrelated, i cant decide between doing a run as a warrior or a rogue. Ive played thru the prologue as both so im relatively familiar with their mechanics but both seem kinda neat. Any anons have an opinion on which is more fun?

Sorry, I wasn't really clear. If I'm not mistaken Rook just stabs Solas on the side (the blade needs someone's life force to connect it to the Veil) and basically drags him into the Fade tear. Solas is probably gonna kill him in there, mad as fuck, because that's one of the endings where they hate each other. But Solas is going to be stuck there forever, his life keeping the Veil strong.

Not really, it's Solas who is making him see Varric. It was clear anyway, no one else interacts with Varric or visits him in the infirmary, and he only ever says things Rook already knows. But it makes no sense for other characters not to mention his death - no words from Dorian, Harding barely acknowledges it, no letter from Kirkwall, nothing. You'd think the death of Kirkwall's viscount would carry more weight, but nope.

The dress tantrum was weird. Like apparently Taash's mother made a comment about clothing and Taash reacts by traveling from Rivain to the Lighthouse and seeking out Neve only to pick a fight by saying Neve is barely wearing a shirt, and then immediately backing down from that when nobody rises to the bait within 3 seconds. It's completely unhinged. People just plain don't behave like that. And with both Rook and Neve babying Taash to explain what the hell underlies this deranged confrontation the whole scene looks like a roleplay out of a mandatory course on conflict resolution in the workplace.

Well, Varric had already made it into a better place. Fixed the harbor, removed the red lyrium, fixed the crumbling cliffs erored by water, drafted an alliance with clan Lavellan so they would have more political power in Wycome... That, plus being a famous author, part of the Merchant Guild, and a previous member of the Inquisition should have made the news, made your companions talk about it, but no. The topic is never addressed, they never ask Rook how he is feeling, Harding panics just at the start and regrets not taking the shot, but then goes back to her dwarven obsession. It's unrealistic as hell.

-45 points for Bellara. I don't wanna go on a whole rant about it but everything about her detracts from my enjoyment of the game. I skip over and leave conversations when she's talking. I can just read her repetitive, insipid dialogue without suffering the agony of listening to her speak it out loud. Her quest is terrible and felt like a waste of my time. I got absolutely nothing out of it. That's all.
+50 points for the conclusion of Taash's quest where she says she's gonna change the Qun for the better. I actually laughed out loud, hard. I'm so tickled about how a new Dragon Age player will have a totally biased, white washed idea of what the Qun is and how it operates. They keep pointing out how the Antaam broke away from the Qun and don't follow it as if that's the excuse for why they're the evil faction in this game. When Karash said he was gonna let the Qunari heal his mind I thought of how there's no way a new player would know what that Qun "mind healing" actually entails. I really did not see a Qun redemption arc coming. It's all so absurd.

Harding was portrayed as more mature, no nonsense and sarcastic in fucking DAI ten years before, Neve tries to be this smart, cynic person but all her lines are devoid of any charm or witticism. Still, I have a lot to say about that fucking romance, and while the bits we got are preem, I cannot help but feel the main dish was never delivered. And there's clearly a cutscene missing after he gets first taloned and wishes to leave the party in secret.

Usually my main character is a good guy, like a paladin or a paragon shepard. This time, however, I wanted to make Rook a badass, cold hearted Antivan Crow who does whatever it takes to save the world. Gave him a bunch of face tattoos and scars and made him look like that as well.

But alas, bioware wouldn't let me do that. I'm stuck with a kindhearted boy scout who has a permanent kind smile on his face. A little child, with no attitude or personality whatsoever.

The game looks ok and the combat is decent, but not what I want from a DA game. Writing and dialogue is absolute shit.

I'd give it like a 3.5-4/10.
Genuinely killed my interest in the setting as a whole and any future games.
Glad it's (currently) the final game, so I can just play the previous installments without a care for this.
Gameplay was (somewhat) of an improvement. Having your companions just be extra spell slots was a mistake, should have given them more of a presence on the field (such as being able to go down).
Animations were a massive improvement over how terrible they were in Inquisition, lip sync could use more work.
Could not give a single shit about literally any of the characters in the game apart from Solas and the Inquisitor.
My biggest cope is that maybe this will show them the error of their soft-reboot ways and not fuck up the next ME as much.

DAV shows the player how terrible Mythal is, but doesn't pass any judgment on her, nor allows you to do it. Statues of her are everywhere, her name is the only Creator's name the Veil Jumper still respect and call out, you can never tell her how terrible the things she did were, Solas never has the chance to get angry at her and rightfully blame her for what she forced him to do, Morrigan suddenly respects her and fully accepted to be her vessel.

Everyone expected her to be the main bad guy after that "reckoning that will shake the very heavens" Flemeth mentioned, but instead she is always presented as the kind All-Mother who got angry only when you were too servile or not clear enough with your requests. Solas and the events leading to Veilguard are so deeply tied to the Inquisitor and Solas' time in the Inquisition that even his main theme has "The Dawn Will Come" motif embedded in it.

Why should old fans care about a bunch of nobodies who never interacted with Solas before, instead of fighting side by side again with characters they learned to know and appreciate in the previous entries? Characters who actually had a hand in this whole business, as the Council in Trespasser points out ("Solas is your fault").

Dorian could have finally shown us around Minrathous; Blackwall could have finally done something to help the Wardens by saving the griffons; the Divine you chose would have helped you in her own way; Zevran could have come back to help you deal with the Crows and show you around Treviso; Leliana could have come to terms with the terrible truth of her faith built on elven lore; even Cole was supposed to come back to serve as Solas' more compassionate part, it's shown in the artbook.

I'm not saying that, they should have actually allowed us to import our choices for this very reason. A more human Cole would have been pretty much useless in softening Solas. A Blackwall banished to the Wardens would have had better chances to deal with the Gloom Howler and understand who she was. A never recruited Dorian would still have been in favor of slavery; a recruited Sera would have helped save people with her Red Jennies; a Cassandra who reformed the Seekers would have better helped with the Titans' Tranquility, not to mention contact some dragon hunter from Nevarra to deal with the gods' dragons; Dagna could have been the creator of the Inquisitor's arm and the dwarven party member obsessed with the truth about her people etc. etc.

Instead we got a Crow possessed by a demon who failed to kill his target because he was distracted; Emmrich, who is clearly supposed to be Solas 2.0 but with less mental problems and emotional baggage; a Tevinter detective whose sole reason for being in the team is because Varric hired her; a Harding so different from her Inquisition version she's pretty much a completely new character altogether, and a Rivaini Qunari obsessed with gender stuff.

Like she forgot EVERYTHING and was only reminded because you showed her Revas' feather? She would have never forgotten. Forgotten her guilt and shame enough to do the same shit all over again. Fucking stupid. I guess you can argue that she was being manipulated by Ghil or something but even then, it still sucks and I hate it.
+80 points for For the Love Of Treviso because I absolutely loved that scene with Daathrata. Way to create an extremely charismatic and interesting character in the span of one conversation. Also because I've really been enjoying Ivenci this whole time being a smug cunt and his attitude toward Rook once you call him out as the traitor was so funny to me.

Exactly. Though as you said perhaps Kirby had difficulties writing the subplot. Though you'd think she would have good references just in case. Not to mention the fact that the director said Lucanis was difficult to write for. And that he had undergone several changes in development. I guess it was simply death by a thousand cuts. A shame really. Although I am not into the brooding, angsty characters with dark pasts. They're far from an archetype to mess up with. Yet they managed nevertheless.

If you save Treviso, the city remains normal and you continue the normal quests against the Adaar.
In exchange, Minrathous has the venatori in power and the Shadow Dragons is destroyed

If you save Minrathous, Minrathous remains unchanged and the tranny fucker Viper is still alive. But Treviso is completly destroyed and it has tentacles all over the quest and instead you get less quests there and all about the blight.

You lose vendor access to Crow/Shadow Dragon depending who died.

It's a big "repercussino" world wise, since one gets most citizens of treviso and crows killed, while the other one gets just shadow dragons killed and switches who's in power.

You can still romance Neve. If you must know, the cutscene of fighting the dragon and everything about the quest is exactly the same in both cases, only difference is in Treviso you fight ice dragon, in minroathous you fight Fire dragon.

Still, it doesn't make sense. His romance with Neve is absolutely well-made, fuckers have been subtly flirting with each other like there's not tomorrow in banters, paying no attention to Rook, which pisses off both Nevefags and Lucafags. The point is, the whole "hard to get, I should keep you safe from me" subplot gets nuked by the fact that with Neve, all is well, no problem.
There's absolutely no chemistry between him and Rook, well maybe some in the first coffee date scene, but then again, Rook doesn't have any chemistry with anyone but Solas.

Maybe, yeah. With each character, in each banter and quest he feels like a different character. Like he's been rewritten at least 10 times, and they stitched together things that fit their pegi 12 narrative. He is a mess, I'll give Kirby that, just not in a good way.

Well, truth be told Inquisitor was pretty much the same. Hawke was an exception since Hawke is based and is a well-written memorable protag. And GW was a true rpg protagonist that could've been anyone you want.

why? Human inq physically stepped into the fade no problem and even in that part which was Nightmare domain and thus awful there was water and rocks. The lighthouse is in the fade and full of vegetation. Lavellan is an elf so kind of a native and has Solas (who also has a normal body), probably the living person with the most experience about being in the fade. I think they'll be fine

How to fix Dragon Age
1. Retcon everything after Awakenings
2. Redo DA2 keeping a some of the key story aspects and characters but expand it to the entirely of the Freemarches or at least the important cities as well as not having the retarded action “press button to awesome” shit
3. Make a game for every region in the south, the hypothetical 3rd game would be in Orlais and about the Orlesian Civil War and underground elven uprising shit
4. Finally a game set in Nevarra about the Assassination of King Markus and the succession crisis that ensues.
5. Throughout all of the games Corypheus and The Ventori are hinted/seen and it culminates in a redo of inquisition where the same shit with the conclave exploding and killing Justinia. The difference however is aside from gaining allies in the various nations you can also get in contact with the Architect who will side with you to attempt to take Corypheus down since he will be attempting to take over The Awakened. There will also be a conflict on whether the Inquisition will rejoin the chantry or created their own offshoot (think Protestant reformation). All the shit with Solas will be hinted at but not said or mentioned in any meaningful capacity as it will be the long term for a potential new set of games set in the north.

And Origins and shit where youre picking up codexes and shit on the maker in the fade and how even though it was super obvious that the chantry is the typical "hehe, churches just want to control all their sheeple" type of deal, there was still a fuckton of like "oh, damn. they might actually be legit despite" and it was fuckin great. I mean Solas having created the fade was already a thing in Inq so there was already a good deal of chant of light disproving. At least on the creationism side of it, because the maker made the fade and the spirit and the golden city, but the spirits bored him to shit, at which point he created the non-fade and man.
Man, Im just fuckin... it was such a neat thing about the IP and one of the things that really seperated it from all the other fantasy settings.

Dragon Age seems to be an IP that has a lot of cool shit that is either ignored, ruined, or underdeveloped. Take for prime example that the planet in which Thedas is on doesn’t have a name, and the setting itself is called the “Dragon Age” setting. Or that retcons just seem to happen like it’s nothing.

Gaider was there to push back on all the shite ideas and make sure everything matched up with the lore and previous characters characterization and we got an amazing DLC because of it.

Origins were one of the best parts on DAO. More RPGs should do these mini-introductions for your character. Cyberpunk 2077 tried to do something similar, but it fell kinda flat.

Howe literally only makes sense if you're a Cousland. If you're not he comes out of nowhere and dies and you have no idea who he is or why he's there. Cousland also has the best interactions in Awakening and makes the most sense there too
