Emmrich's is good, even if it doesn't feel like Dragon Age because of how cartoony him, Manfred AND the villain of the plotline is.

Everyone else? Mostly dull (Neve, Lucanis and Davrin) or straight up bad (Harding, Taash and Bellara). Bellara would've been better if the ending wasn't so fucking stupid.

My final tally of this session:

+30 points for Emmrich in general, I find him nice to have around and his personal quest to be the only one worth a damn. Wanting to become a lich because you're terrified of dying but there's a risk you'll die for real attempting it is pretty good. I'm invested in this. His romance scenes made my heart flutter a little at points.
+6 points for Shathann. It's actually really interesting meeting a Tal Vashoth (is she one technically?) who isn't a soldier or spy and is just trying to do her best for her child that she isn't even supposed to have let alone actually love and care for under the Qun
+2 points because I like the stuff mercenaries say when you kill their friends like "How are they so good?!" "This isn't worth the money!"
+20 points for how many dragon fights there are in this game. I just fought the first high dragon and it's already like the 7th one.
I want to take away points for the Isseya thing I said I would earlier but I'm going to give them a chance to explain how she could turn into a demon whose goal is to destroy the baby griffins that she saved as her life's last mission to make up for what she did. It makes no sense to me. But also, I don't like how they seem to be white washing what she did by saying she "blighted" griffons. She actually did a blood magic Joining ritual that SHE invented on them.

Well all I can say is that the end hard carried it for me. Does it fix the rape of the lore, the dull ass companions and the sanitized, horrible dialogue? Absolutely not. But the last 5-10 hours of the game are worthwhile, if anything.

From a tactical point, charging into the bulk of the horde from entrenched defenses even with Loghain's forces flanking was a gamble. There is no telling how many would be lost even if the defenders would end victorious, and how able they would be to repel the horde entirely with the forces at hand. While dooming the king's forces, retreating saved many able bodies which would prove invaluable for the conflicts to come. Cailan's insistence on being on the front line as well as the lack of a contingency plan for a potential defeat, forced retreat or even the appearance of an Archdemon only proves Cailan's disregard for himself and his own men.
The field was lost, one way or the other.

I'm not seeing it. More people died than would have at the king's side. You're literally working with fewer soldiers during the defense of the city, and even then it's not a defense from behind walls, citizens have been slaughtered, and the archdemon is doing as it pleases.
Then there's the city that got razed in the expansion.

Again, we do not know if the gamble would turn the tide in Ferelden's favor. At best, they would repel the attack with heavy losses, with the darkspawn mounting the next assault within the week. At worst, they would all be forced to retreat or fall in battle. It would be a pyrrhic victory at best. I do not deny they could hold them off during the battle, but they would have no victory there.

Duncan, as a Grey Warden, knows there is a Blight coming, he knows a robust force is headed there way, and they planned accordingly. Darkspawn literally only have numbers, no strategy, you're damn right Loghain's archers and flanking would blender the darkspawn.

Worse, this argument hinges on the idea that people even BELIEVE that this is a Blight at all.
Which they did not. Everyone operated under the assumption that this is nothing more than a large horde of Darkspawn, hence the straightfoward plan to deal with them. Loghain specifically absolutely seethes at the very idea that this is a Blight and that Grey Wardens are useful.

I recruited Traash yesterday and I'm preventively mad about her storyline being related to woke shit instead of... anything else, like the qun, her mom, rivain, even a coming of age (since she's clearly an adolescent) story. That's actually the interesting part of her, in one of her banters with Lucanis she said that she used to watch sheep prior to joining. Before the inquisition she was literally nobody and she found joy in becoming one of inquisition's scouts.

Hey /dag/, you know what? The agme is fun
Combat reminds me pf Genshin Imapct and it's very carefree, but I kinda enjoy it.

Scenery and level design is astonishingly beautiful. Character design, costumes and armors all look pretty great.

The visual effects, the animations are very well done. The cities, set peices etc despite not being fully explorable at times, give a nice "bioware exploration" feel.

Dialogue could be better, some companions fhave some decent lines sometimes: most of the stuff I've seen being critiqued from videos online ("I like the cookies better") are not that cringe when experienced in context.

It's a good game! I feel like we live in an age where people must polarize everything, especially in your american culture.

Outside of obvious immunity to taint, Soispawn only gives you enhanced stamina and endurance, plus constant nightmares (and a hefty appetite). While certainly useful things for any combatant, they aren't inherently conductive to becoming a good leader.
Even in Ostagar HoF was all on his own and had to take the lead during the search for Darkspawn blood and negotiations with Flemeth and Morrigan, and it only went downhill from there. Outside of vague "well we sort of need to do this and that to win", he was the one making decisions.
Harding feels insecure because she was always a follower, always serving someone who had things figured out. It has nothing to do with her actually being bad.

I'm not that far into the game, but so far
the part where bellara talks about her dead brother
davrin struggle in being a grey warden, trying to fit in their ranks despite being a dalish
also, even though the whole world thinks differently, taash with his "you dont get to tell me who I am" is at least a nice contrast compared to the other friendly and kind classmates, the slightly detached and tsundere way I don't mind

the way in which random npc talk about events that occur as you progress through the game, and how previously empty areas (the market in the crossover for example) fill up with people who give insight into other areas of the map

I'm not talking about particularly deep or profound dialogues, but that make it possible to immerse yourself in the way in which our actions actively influence the story

I actually agree about Traash, too bad her story is about California gender culture instead of literally anything else. The Bellara part however was the most basic bitch survivor guilt they could muster, it's so cookie cutter and safe the accident isn't even her actual fault. Compare it to something like what Blackwall, Sten, or even fucking Hawke struggle with. Thinking about previous games makes me actually sad. I made the mistake of going into the game expecting good closure since unlike the previous three (which are more standalone individual story lines) it directly pulls from the ending of Trespasser. Between that and the devs talking about how much effort they put into companions and the Inquisitor playing a big role in Solas' ending, both of which were vicious overstatements at best.

I'm stuck in the regret prison. Maybe after a bit I'll go through again and try to play for the characters. The environments are very pretty and I like exploring ruins.

First of all I love an infiltration type mission and the little details of the Venatori crowd were so fun like those fucking goofballs dancing and sitting on slaves. She has been there for two years already by Origins' story and not once did she consider turning back or regrouping after finding the Anvil's location.

Other than ambient npcs yeah theres not much to do outside of companion quests and Solas quests. I do like how Veilguard makes you explore to figure out getting to areas of the map. I like little things like that. Smashing crates to find a hidden door or shooting ladders. I've seen people complain about Inq's open world stuff but I can't understand why people would dislike it. I love an open world. I want to be able to go into everybody's house. I guess my gripe with Veilguard is that it doesn't cater to me. I was hoping for more exploration of the Evanuris and Solas and ancient elves. I fucking love exploring ancient ruins. But assuming the other Evanuris are dead our last thread to the old world just walked into the fade forever there's no more tie in there.

Veilguard's map just feel like settings for the faction, companion and main quests and nothing else. There's really very little reason to explore unless you are looking for the treasure chests. You rarely bump into anything interesting or weird, so it's like useless to do anything except follow quest markers. Like, in Inquisition, you have the haunted mansion in Emerald Graves which was cool. Western Approach has the demon and venatori infested place that is stopped in time, so you have to take this staff to make the time flow again. Emprise Du Lion has the red lyrium mine where they are growing red lyrium from bodies of slaves, and the castle you raid with Imshael, and the three colosseums with three dragons to fight.

I think Veilguard took the '' fetch quest '' criticism and corrected too much, since there were still decent events and questlines happening in different areas outside of the main quests and companion quests.

Well yes, Inquisition wasn't about found family uwu besties for lifies uwu bullshit, it was about people from different backgrounds who would never otherwise be together in the same room tolerating each other for the sake of saving the world (and pushing their own agenda on how the world should be fixed). It wasn't some wholesome happy friends club, it was people working together despite their differences, and some, despite having different values, become friends, while others don't.

Inquisition not being a friendship simulator is one of the best things it has going for it, and it's basically on you to decide whether a character is a good friend or not. But I know that's not appealing to terminally lonely basement dwellers.

Yeah, the background story is muted next to that. I appreciate the intent but that should've been a side quest for a random NPC. Taash is already dealing with the intersection of Qun, Qunari and Rivani culture on top of her relationship to dragons (which is basically irrelevant until the end because of all the gender shit)
