I'm thinking of rerolling from Mage to Rogue because I just found out that you can only detonate Sundered as Mage. So you can't bring a fellow Mage with you because Mage companions apply Weakened and only detonate Overwhelmed. With Rogue, every single one of your skills prime I think so you can bring whoever with you. Fucking lame that a Mage can't have different primers and detonators.
Anonymous
>grand necropolis with mourn watcher rook >within 10 minute there’s dialogue that implies Rook has never been here, then dialogue that implies he has been here >the place is a never ending shapeshifting labyrinth so deep underground you cannot see the sky instead of a big religious building like it used to be Man this is stupid. This game just feels like random set piece missions scenarios from when it was a live service game hastily stitched together. There is no journey. You just load into areas and have no idea how you got there. Either that or you use an eluvian which are supposed to be extremely rare but now everyone has one sitting in their shed I guess
Anonymous

The combat is filtering me. Enemies are so fucking aggressive, especially ranged attackers. Am I just supposed to spend my time between abilities blocking/parrying between abilities? Trying to just do normal attack combos feels like it gets punished, going into the fray you just get hit by some off-screen ranged attack.

>Solas says he'll kill the Archdemon But it is drilled into you for three games, and even the first half of this one, that it has to be a Grey Warden. Since when is Solas a Grey Warden using blight magic? You could steer a 747 through the plot holes in this script. And it doesn't even make sense, Solas thought killing them was folly in Inquisition, but if he just stood by while the Wardens killed the last two - because they know where the prisons are underground - then there'd be no problem with the Evanuris any more. What the fuck?

>>501163143 Same. With everyone else Rook is locked into being too much of a nice guy, but the Solas interactions have just the right balance of mistrust and bonafide engagement.
The real tragedy of this game is that it's not QUITE as bad as the reviews make it out to be, there are some genuinely neat character interactions. The problem is, you have to overlook a main plot that's constantly sidelined by companion sidequests if you want to avoid the bad ending and some absolutely atrocious moments that whitewash the setting among other things to get there.

This game has owned the lore of the series as badly as Sen raped Kiseki lore
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>501154446 Imagine if there was a branching romance path where you make Taash reconsider the whole nonbinary thing, help her reconnect with her mother and realize that being a woman is completly fine.
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>501168246 The weird thing about that is the lore rape is relatively subtle. Like the major story beats-the Titans being made tranquil, the elven gods being power-mad mages, the purpose of the Archdemons and the origins of the Blight-it all seems like shit that on paper seems like it's a reasonable inference from previous games.
The actual lore rape is just dropped randomly in the middle of someone's personal quest, like the Qun letting people opt out or everyone being inexplicably racially tolerant of elves. You have this plot about a bargain bin Phyrexian devastating the city, and then someone just casually contradicts the lore of the setting in a random aside.
Except the shit about griffons being blight-bonded, which just comes across like someone REALLY wanted you to cry for the poor little griffon that is like 50% of Davrin's personality

He said he used to be a Tevinter slave which makes Taash sound like a whiner for complaining about her upbringing. I streamed the first few hours of me playing to my friend and we got the impression that Varric must be dead somehow because of how strange everything about him is but then we wrote it off because we saw scenes where other people could also see and talk to him but I'm back to thinking he's actually dead. The more I play the less it makes sense how he could have survived that stab and why he never leaves that fucking cot except SOME cutscenes and why he never has anything important to say. He hasn't talked about writing even once. He wasn't even upset about Bianca getting splintered and I think even talked about her like nothing happened. It's not adding up. Another good example is Elgar'nan's VA. Credit where it's due, he's going all-out trying to give his one-note generic villain some sort of stage presence. If there was a conflict it's quickly diffused, Taash says sorry, Neve shows herself to be understanding and patient.
In Origins Morrigan would brag to Leliana about being the better lay of the two, and Leliana would retort that the whole camp heard her shrieking like a harpy during sex. But in his mind, he believes in everything he did, he acted alone and he is solely responsible. I think confirming that Keiran doesn't exist and Morrigan is back to being a witch of the wilds seducing random people might be the last straw for me. I sat through the insipid children's show dialogue, I sat through the shallow romances, I sat through the companion questline that is half about being non-binary, I sat through the modern day lingo that clashed with the fantasy aesthetic, I sat through Rook being a milquetoast protagonist even compared to Ryder who was already milquetoast, I sat through no save imports so characters have to awkwardly dance around talking about prior decisions even if they are relevant or important, I sat through the official Veilguardian seminar about how to apologize for misgendering people, I sat through the main antagonists giving the macguffin to a lowly ghoul darkspawn instead of just taking it and using it, I sat through "I moved the rock with my mind!" scenes, and so much more. I can excuse all of these things as the writers simply being unskilled. But taking a beloved character that has an interesting story and potentially many people's dragon age waifu and just straight up saying "no, none of those things you did with her happened, she's just a slut now" feels intentionally malicious. This is not bad dialogue or plot holes in the story that can be written off as mistakes, this is actually taking something that lots of people love and completely contradicting it and making it worse. After playing about 25-30 hours now, I can officially say that this is one of the worst games I've played in a long time, by far the worst dragon age game, and I am confident that anyone saying anything otherwise is trolling. The interactions with Solas were the best part but those are just not doing it anymore. The game is bad with overwhelming negatives for every small positive. I'm legitimately sad. I don't think it's funny when things are bad and I don't want things to fail like some terminally online weirdos do. I wanted this to be good.

>The official story of the Qunari attack upon the South holds that the "Dragon's Breath" plan to attack the south was a rogue action against official Qunari orders. This is true, but it is not the whole truth. >The Salasari, Triumvirate of the Qun, represents the Qunari people: the Arishok commands the Antaam, the military branch that represents the body; the Ariqun leads the scholars and priests, representing the soul; and the Arigena guides the craftspeople, representing the mind. After the Breach wreaked chaos across the South, the Triumvirate suggested caution and sent a Qunari representative to observe and report on the Inquisition. But some in the Antaam and the Ben-Hassrath believed their leaders lacked the will to end the threat. Dragon's Breath was indeed unsanctioned, but it was not unpopular. Qunari who had fought the blood mages of Tevinter had learned to fear all magic. They wanted a fast solution. >When Dragon's Breath failed, the surviving Ben-Hassrath spies surrendered. In contrast, the Antaam insisted that Dragon's Breath had failed because it did not go far enough. The bas, they declared, did not merit education under the Qun. They must be conquered or destroyed. When their Arishok, who had fought darkspawn in Ferelden during the Fifth Blight, argued against this demand, his own kithshoks declared him corrupt. They ambushed the Arishok at the war council, leaving him badly injured. >And then the bloodthirsty Antaam went to war, a body now bereft of mind and soul. So the hornheads are literally just out to either enslave or kill absolutely everyone. To top that off they are systematically destroying all traces of pre-conquest culture in Rivain. Even Tevinter doesn't go that far. How am I not supposed to want to side with the Imperium, the one and only opposing force in the north?

>When the Antaam invaded the South, the people there were completely unprepared. Antiva and northern Rivain were overrun quickly, with the invaders pushing down through the Green Dales to the Minanter River, leaving only the southernmost of the Free Marches spared. From there, the Antaam pushed west, overpowering Tevinter magic with gaatlok cannons and brute strength until the defenders finally held at Vyrantium. Nevarra was spared, likely due to the Antaam fears of necromancy and unwillingness to attack until Tevinter was conquered, but almost half of northern Thedas fell to Antaam rule in just a few years. >To those asking why the Antaam waited centuries to attack in force if they were this powerful, I would remind them that the Qun teaches that outsiders are to be converted and educated. Under Qunari control, the Antaam have been fighting only Tevinter, and even then, they followed rules governing how and when to attack. Gaatlok cannons were not to be used on civilian targets, for example. When the Antaam broke from the Qun, they threw off the restraints that had held them back. >It is also important to note that the Antaam fought alone. With little in the way of supply lines or experts in food production—the craftspeople and strategic experts who would normally support them had not broken from the Qun when the Antaam did—the invaders needed to attack to keep eating. When they encountered resistance that would have forced a siege, the Antaam invasion stalled. The kithshoks who wished only to conquer now had to learn to rule the lands they would claim. Anonymous

>When the seers learned that the Antaam in Rivain were destroying ancient shrines and ruins of earlier settlements, we sent a delegation to the Antaam to ask why (with the Lords of Fortune offering their services as protection). The Antaam who met with us was a massive gold-horned kithshok (formerly a general, now effectively a warlord) who now styled himself Isskatari, or Master Killer. >"We know you wish to conquer, but why must you destroy these things?" we asked him. >He grunted in disgust and replied, "I served in Kont-aar for years. I watched as your people laughed at us and acted like you were better. As you tried to tempt us away with your wrong ways." >"The things you are destroying are sacred to us," we told him. "They cannot be replaced." >"Paintings and statues are not sacred," he told us, and shattered an ancient funeral vase with a blow from his axe. "Words in a book are not sacred. A sword is sacred for what it can cut. When it breaks, it is trash. A warrior is sacred for who he can kill. When he dies, he is dust." >His words shook us, as did the hatred behind them. This was a man who thought that laughter must have a loser and a winner, who had lived with resentment of those outside the Qun for years and now had no leaders to hold him back from destroying anything that offended him. He had rejected the teachings of the Qun and replaced those beliefs with brutal practicality bereft of curiosity or compassion. >The Lords of Fortune have since worked to save ancient treasures when they can be found and taken safely. As for the Antaam, it seems those in Rivain will kill and destroy until they are stopped. I like Isabela more now. Fuck the Antaam.

>The attack on Vyrantium marked a pivotal turn in the overall Antaam invasion. As one of the largest cities in the Tevinter Imperium, Vyrantium was a key shipping and trading port and a cultural center second only to Minrathous. Capturing it would let the Antaam cut off Minrathous from the rest of the empire and, with the help of a naval blockade, starve the city into submission. >Reports state that the Antaam were initially greeted with celebration by slaves harvesting crops outside the city. They knew that the magisters feared the Qunari and saw in the Antaam a chance for liberation from oppression, as the Qunari at Kirkwall had done for the elves. But the Antaam warlord leading the attack, a kithshok called Staffbreaker, punished soldiers who tried to treat with the slaves. He ordered that all bas be cut down, to shake the resolve of Vyrantiumls defenders. >Had Staffbreaker welcomed the slaves, he might have guaranteed supplies for his army and gained converts from those who had suffered under Tevinter's cruelty. Instead, he accomplished what was once thought impossible: making the magisters of Tevinter seem the lesser of two evils. From slave to magister, every hand supported Vyrantium, and battles between gaatlok cannons and mage staves left everything east of the city a charred wasteland. >As of this writing in 9:52 Dragon, Vyrantium remains besieged, under bombardment from both land and city, but the Antaam have pushed no farther. I'm down for Total Qunari Death.
