After my gaming session today which lasted all day I'm awarding points as follows:

+150 for the Seige of Weisshaupt mission. I very enjoyed the epic view from high above of hordes of darkspawn storming the gates and the Wardens fighting them off. I had fun in the combat sections, I love fighting darkspawn in this game how they always come in dozens at a time and are always doing area attacks with those blight bombs making you have to move. I liked Ghil talking the whole time and when her giant head came over the top of the tower after killing her dragon. She's such a cool monster design. I liked the choice of how to deal with the First Warden. I talked him down and my team greatly disapproved of that which actually pleased me because it reinforced my impression that they're all stupid.
However, I looked for Garahel's armor which I know from Last Flight is supposed to be on display in the library and there was no reference to it. -2 points

-20 points that they couldn't come up with a last Solas memory for you to play through so they just made you fight a bunch of Antaam for the last statue. Motherfuckers this is HIS story where in the fuck were your priorities at?
-5 points that ALL elves are originally spirits. I knew Solas was one but I always liked the idea that he was special
+15 points for Felassan having way more presence in this game than I expected. He was such a fun character so I'm glad he's made it into an actual game. I want players to know about how funny he was when he was flippantly pretending to be Dalish but maybe they won't go there.
+50 points for the conversation with Mythal I really feel like the game set you up to succeed in knowing what choices to pick to persuade her and I was even thinking back to Inquisition what I learned in her temple when picking my answer so that was a rewarding interaction for a codex reader like me
I am now at the point where the main questline is has become "holy shit the team is all fucked in the head we have no chance unless we solve their petty bullshit first because they literally can't function otherwise even though the world is at stake" It's so fucking bad, so fucking stupid, that I can't even be mad. This is what the game is now, holy shit. I think I'm officially blackpilled and hoping the worst for all these terrible companions including Rook. I can do is laugh +25 points

I do kinda wish he had more of an interaction with you first like Imshael did. But then again that's probably just a desire demon thing. From the lore sloth demons are like tier 2 demons at best. How the fuck was a single sloth demon strong enough to sleep the entire party and trap them in mini dimensions, especially when you slaughter desire demons by the dozen and a few prides too. This always bugged me

I think it's interesting that Leliana has a consistent character flaw in that when she's heavily emotionally invested in someone, she's tends to just lose all her competence and skill when it comes to them. The interesting part is that this flaw persists throughout all her appearances instead of being glossed over or made to be a funny quirk.

Prologue and character creator was interesting.
Bellara intro quest was awful and Hinterland tier traumatizing.
Creepy village was interesting but lack of boss fight was lame.
Return to site was awful.

Game got better now especially because i found out i travel through tamriel and game doesn't take place just in boring Tevinter.
Underwater quest is kino.
Bellara keeps ruining the game with her cringe.
Combat keeps getting better and better.
Exploration is kinda ehhhh but at least scenery is pretty and graphics are good.
Performance is good.
Roleplay is ehhh but better than Inquisition and Origins.
Armors are 10/10 design.
Companions are lame.

5/10. Decent enough to not be boring, not good enough to be memorable, or replayable. Doesn't stand out in anything.

Warden armor is kino as fuck.
And the game has a lot more armors than just whatever you saw on character creator.
It has gorgeous cloaks. Awesome shoulders. Heavy actually looks badass and makes you look muscular.
Mages are stylish.
You have both down to earth armors and flashy.
You have even revealing armors if you're a whore.

This game probably has the best armor design we've had in years. I spent hours checking every single BG3 armor, spawning all the items, using even mods, and nothing looks good or decent for a game's protagonist. Inquisition armors were puke inducing and only decent armor in DA2 was the Champion one.

Yeah you can buy different armors from the merchant that is related to them and their group i guess
You can find either upgrades or different ones while doing quest related to them also
But it will have their picture on the icon when you buy it for example, any old armor you find will not cut it

I think the only way the Dragon Age IP can survive this is by, ironically, pulling an Andromeda. The next game (if there ever is one) has to be set so far removed from the previous games that there are only vague hints as to what happened. Give us a way to establish the worldstate of DAO-DAI with the biggest decisions (Morrigan and Kieran, the Warden, Kirkwall, etc.) being choices but only alluded to because we're 500 years removed from these events or some shit. Wipe the slate clean and try to rebuild because there's no fixing what we have at this point

Ok, my honest opinion?
The game is decent: I like exploration and it is stimulated and rewarded, and the levels and the artistic direction are very, very beautiful: on par, if not better than what I saw for example in Baldur's Gate for the visuals and design. For example, the armor and clothes are always very well made and full of details.
The level design is quite particular, I like how the various areas gradually unravel towards other parts of the map to explore, but I would have preferred it to be all available from the beginning: seeing those messages like "this area is not yet available, come back later" is frustrating.

The soundtrack is really hit or miss, it has some nice ambient segments but I haven't identified the main theme yet: some parts have vaporwave synth elements that don't really fit in?

The companions and the cast are quite varied but I would have preferred more interactions, without having to wait for specific events to even be able to talk to them. Also, the gifts system is ridiculous: I gave an expensive frog to Bellara and all I saw was a 2 second (literally) cutscene with her saying "Oh, thanks!". and that's it.

I'm playing as Spellblade and so far the fights are dynamic and fun, the enemies don't feel spongy but I lowered the difficulty for that.

Anyway I'm deducting points for Rage demons. I was already really disappointed when I saw how Pride demons look now in the trailer but holy shit every time I see a Rage demon appear in this game it actually bums me out. They're just fucking fire goblins or some shit now. It's especially upsetting when i already saw how good the lava effects look in this game but they decided to change the design to something way more generic. I'm sure it was because they were too fucking lazy to make unique animations for a lava blob monster and just wanted to be able to skin over a trash mob they already had. -10 points

Mage is pretty boring at first and starts to get good at around level 10 when you get companions to prime and detonate your skills.
I went with dagger orb because staff gameplay is boring as shit. Though I think staff shines when you specc into Evoker.

But seriously it's so important for his character and for the players to know that he is a LOVER and a YEARNER deep down inside. Solavellans already knew but it's important for everyone to understand. The murals thing they did was so good, Solas enjoyers are eating so fucking well in this game even though so much of the other stuff is mid at best. Every time I get told to go talk to him I'm like giggling and kicking my legs in excitement. He's so perfect maybe the best character of all times.

DOS2 robes had a good shape but I think the sleeves could have looked better and the Diablo style loot means you’re abandoning the best looking robes in the endgame to keep up with your builds. Baldurs Gate 3’s only robe only goes down to the ankles, but has nice texture work, if it had only gone down and covered the feet fully it would have been a good 8/10 robe.

Varric sounds like that to me. I think Solas is good but I can hear the 10 years of age in his voice which would actually be fitting and fine if not for the fact that there's so many scenes of past events with him sounding old. Nothing to be done about that though.

Yeah. But man's trying his best, and I respect him for that. When an actor comes back years later, and you can see/hear that he's older and no amount of talent can change that, it always feels kinda bad to me.
Varric's VA sounds absolutely done with this role, though. Again, no idea what's happening behind the scenes, but dude just feels "oh fuck I'm only returning to this shit because you paid double" sort of done.

It absolutely doesn't fucking make sense to me why this is even a choice. We know the Venatori runs amok in Minrathous but I find it completely unbelievable that Minrathous would go to shit if you didn't personally show up.
Maevaris and Dorian are quite literally powerhouses and they have the Shadow Dragons with them. Meanwhile, Treviso only has the Antivan Crows to protect them. You also send in three of your companions to the city you're not present in, Minrathous should be fucking safe

The problem with it is Rook isn't stated to be a superhero or anything. They're not in command of an army. The game specifically says the 2 of your companions that aren't with you are in the other city but apparently one guy not showing up is enough to tip the scales.

Frankly it's what they deserve. Between Inquisition and Veilguard several cities in Tevinter were overrun. Lots of people died, many more were enslaved, the prisoners of war were forced into labor camps, and an absurd amount of them were chemically lobotomized in order to stop them from rebelling. It's hard to say that Tevinter doesn't owe them some payback.

And don't forget, since Archdemon calls to all darkspawn, it also means that they swarmed out of Deep Roads in numbers no living human could even imagine since no living human who isn't a Grey Warden even knows the scale of darkspawn menace underground.

Solas has a whole room dedicated to the Inquisition/Inquisitor and it's a room revolving around expressing himself through art I just love that so much. The codex entry in there is about a duet about the feeling of relief and happiness of understanding you. He recreated the frescos as paintings, I wonder if he didn't bother with the whole fresco process because it was just for him and not meant as a gift but and he just wanted to remember for himself. I just keep thinking about it, it's so touching to me. I know from the short story that the scenes of those frescos he made are also tinged with regret but idk it's hard to see them that way in this context I think of them more as cherished memories and a reminder of how he was changed for the better during that time idk

It's like they got 35% of the way there in any gameplay scene where things get remotely tense. Like when you argue with the first warden, they could have written the scene where he's dragging you along hook line and sinker. Garahel's sister did a blood magic Joining ritual on one griffon that was old and it made it into an frenzied darkspawn killing machine with 0 regard for it's own life and an ability to fight beyond physical limits. Shit was so desperate the First Warden ordered her to do the ritual on more and more griffons. Even the ones she didn't do it on started showing the same symptoms so basically, the disease spread and wiped them all out but she was able to spare exactly one clutch of eggs.

So I never did Lucanis' "Coffee With the Crows" quest which is his very first companion quest. He then was hardened and the quest was uncompletable and has not talked to me or asked anything of Rook or unlocked any other quests like the other companions. Am I locked out of all his companion content or does it just take a long time to build enough rapport to start since I missed that first quest and he never got to see Treviso again before it got blighted?

It's that the real history of our world is full of cultures, religions, and rituals where trans people were considered as shamans, sacred people. What I'm saying is that writers had a lot of sources to draw inspiration from to create something genuine but that could resonate with some people who are sensitive about this topic.

A good fantasy writer would have found a way to, I don't know, conceive an entire Qunari faction where trans people are holy warriors, people with two souls, or something like that to create a new piece of lore, thus creating immersion in the game.

Would people complain about it? Sure, but they're complaining anyway now: in a game where the birthday is called "nameday", they could work with fantasy and creativity instead of transposing 1:1 an element of our modern and contemporary world with the same terminology and equivalent.

sisters I can't get over how bad the writing is on all levels, I'm pulling myself through the game for the solavellan closure, still on act 1 and he's been already assassinated as a character what the fuck. The dialogues read as a children's book and any political or societal nuance and subtlety that even DAI had it's completely absent. The banter that I have heard so far lacks wit, lacks psychological insight, is BORING. There's just nothing redeemable about this. Wait a second I just remembered something that struck me as stupid about the Evanuris. Morrigan said that Falon'din and Dirthamen were fragments of the same soul and it struck me as so weird why they decided to make that a thing because they had just made a big deal about how different the 2 fragments of Mythal are because of the lives they've lived but Falon'din and Dirthamen existed contemporaneously so what is the point? They codex entries always alluded to them having an unexplainably close bond but it just kinda didn't sound any more special than them being twin brothers so what in the fuck is the story of how they came to be and who they are fragments of originally? Also Solas fucking hated Falon'din but I don't think he ever said anything about Dirthamen so why is that? You can't just throw something that half-baked out there for no reason just to retroactively prove a concept you JUST introduced. I just don't like it. And what is the backstory about the other Evanuris then?

Finished the game. I thought it was kinda great seeing Rook, The Inquisitor, Morrigan and a fragment of Mythal all succeed in putting some sense into Solas in the end. I'm a huge Solas hater, but perhaps because Solas was one of the few good things about the game, I've warmed up to him. But it helps that he is genuinely in the right path now and seems earnest about it.

Other than that, it was kinda shit. And my standards are really low anyway since I LOVE Inquisition.

No one will ever know what the fuck these weird paintings mean.

It's a decision between resurrecting Manfred or him being allowed to become a lich. I wanted to see how the romance evolves with him as a lich (and it's what he dreamed of anyway) and I was pleasantly surprised by it. I liked the idea of him being immortal and my character passing away from old age eventually, it adds to the dynamic. But romances are pretty damn dull in this game.
