Why did they make solas so powerful for no reason? He could have just been a companion character that stayed in inquisition and just stayed that way but they decided to make the world revolve around him and he’s just not it

I'm gonna be honest.

The approval/disapproval has always been nothing but garbage.
The protagonist exists to be the hero of the story, not the bitch of poorly written companions constantly looking to say the right thing.

The fact that i've seen people flipflop in opinions just so fictional videogame characters are their friends grosses me out.
You should say one second "Templars are bad" and then "Templars are good" to different companions so they like you.

If anything, companions should be the ones licking your boots and seeking YOUR approval, not the other way around. The protagonist shouldn't be a weak beta with a fiddle personality because poorly written companions throw a tantrum when you disagree with them or you don't do what they want.

ME1 was actually well written and had some very thought provoking sci-fi concepts (which they admittedly borrowed heavily from Babylon 5)
Veilguard is just complete slop that can hardly even muster dialogue that provides characterization of worldbuilding - this instance of lazy/low IQ writing is just one of the many dingleberries on top

I literally did because it's infuriating.
It's a roleplaying game. You're supposed to experience the story through what the protagonist is going through.

Being shown scenes the protagonist can't see for some "le dramatic Star wars" effect is awful.

Dragon Age Origins did it too with the horrible Loghain scenes.
There's no reason to do such shit. Focus on the protagonist journey, not what the poorly written two dimensional evil villains are doing.

Unpopular Opinion: The warden as a shit protagonist with garbage dialogue options, shit roleplaying, no soul and the fact that he was mute led to companions outright breaking the 4th wall, like Leliana saying "well you don't talk much, you mostly listen" or when Leliana is singing her retarded fag song the camera pans into the Warden's autistic face.

Garrus Hawke, the Inquisitor and Rook are a million times better protagonists just from the fact they can at least INTERACT with the world, give speeches, be heard, rather than hear other characters give wikipedia tier long dialogues and you having just 1 reply.

Absolutely wrong. This game is full of MMO garbage. The only "non-MMO" thing it has is corridor levels. You have to walk around picking up garbage "loot", you fight worthless mobs before everything, the story is literally progressed through quests, you have "follow this NPC" quests by the boatload.

Anyone else sad? I just wanted to play a fun dragon age game after a decade.

I personally liked 2 and 3. They had issues but they were fundamentally still telling a cool story in a cool universe, so I liked them. The new one doesn't manage to do that. I can't take another quip or "Yeah, that just happened". I saw this complaint in the thread before I played it myself and assumed it was typical shitpost exaggeration but now I have about 20 hours in the game and it's grating for me too. The writers are about 10 years too late on the quip style of writing. And they do it for stuff that should be scary, like your first ogre encounter. Bellara literally jokes after it. Compare this to how it was in Origins.

I'm just sad. I loved the first three games, I had this one all ready to go, excited for release night. But I can't deny it anymore. I'm normally an optimist but I think it's clear bioware has lost all their talent. Or at least the corporate constraints are too overbearing, or something. Because things are grim.

Here's to hoping Mass Effect 5 is good. Maybe something will change. Maybe they'll get the message to make a serious game again, rather than this children's quip movie style.

Not a single person hates Veilguard for the combat.
It might be deattached from lore but Inquisition combat is mmo slow garbage with bullet sponges that are extremely unfun to kill.

Anyone who played mage in Inquisitoin knows it's just stay still afk pressing 1, 2, 3.
The fact that mage abilities are STATIC RUNES you need to wait for enemies to step on shows how boring it is.

In Inquisition you controlled and statted up 3 additional party members. It was tactical and you weren't just sitting on 1 character waiting for CDs, you were swapping. With the enemy design it made sense, although they were bullet sponges as well.

In Veilguard you are stuck on 1 character waiting for CDs, but the worst part is the convoluted ability system due to not controlling your immortal companions.

I decided I'm awarding Dragon Age The Veilguard -50 points in addition to the current total of 514 for making it so if you don't do Lucanis' gay little "getting to know you" quest and then let Treviso get blighted you're just fucked. First of all I do not like the companions and doing their side shit was not my priority over the story and then you have to make your choice IMMEDIATELY when it's presented so you can't even go back and wrap up other stuff before proceeding and there's no way to know this unless you got spoiled on it. Now I have this passive aggressive sounding missive with a fucking hazard emblem stuck on it in my library forever fuck this game for a current total of 464 points.

On a positive note I enjoyed Betrayal of Felassan and I could not stop thinking about who they want the player to think betrayed who given that ambiguous wording. I'm guessing they reveal what happened with them later in the game

From what I heard Zimmer does usually work on stuff with his name attached but a good amount of the work is done by assistants and whoever is credited as the co-composer. So at least some of it is probably him.

While I am at it, I want to take away points for Varric. Just him in general and the fact that he is in this game. To be fair I can see Varric dropping everything to help again after the Trespasser reveals. Solas and Varric are also presented as ideological opposites who still got along fairly well in Inquisition. If Solas respects literally anyone else in the Inquisition I'd say it would be him.

So blood relations don't really have any meaning or value. You mean Matt Rhodes's stuff? I wouldn't make too much of it. He has a very comic-booky style with accentuated masculine/feminine attributes and lots of strong, expressive action poses. He's been with Bioware since forever and obviously his style has never really translated from concept art to one of the big titles. His influence on the game's designs is more noticeable in the characters' style of dress and the architectural landscape of the cities.

I'm now wondering if the RPG systems and loot/ability upgrades even matter at all.

I wandered into a level 24 area at level 7 and the enemies were no different that the main mission enemies that matched my level.

I have a feeling the systems are smoke and mirrors.
I'm speccing into Necrosis damage but it feels no different than any other type of damage.

This game's marketing cycle has been a nightmare. Look at BG3's pre-release. Everyone was talking about "wow you can turn into a cat and sneak into a location, and then turn into a rat and make the NPCs panic, and loot the place" and "you can find somewhere full of dead people, reanimate a corpse, and ask it what happened", and of course, general Shadowheart and Astarian lust.
What did Veilgard have? Trailers that looked like Hero Shooter games, tranny qunari character creation simulators, and the first leaked footage of the game was barving to apologize for misgendering. Most of this ended up being a non-issue besides Taash being the worst Bioware companion in existence, but even normalfags would see some of this shit on leddit.

At least they justify it by the fact Otakemaru stabbed him in the throat back when he was little. Tokichiro is the main actor of the game, and the game does tell a very compelling version of his fall from grace. Especially when you know the historical background that led to his mindbreak in the lake scene he was just ordered to murder little kids on Nobunaga orders

I can see the skeleton of the looter live service game they were trying to make which could have been a lot of fun. Reminds me of Inquisition's multiplayer which I assume was the inspiration.

But to try to make this a mainline title that advances the macro plot and not some fortnite sidegame? Insane. The person who decided that should be drawn and quartered.

Different anon, but the map design for starters. The whole live service aspect was also meant to emulate the search for Solas across Thedas (so basically everything that's been skipped). They essentially took the bones of one game and created THAT game's sequel.
