Veilguard sucks because everything is made in mind with a player who never heard of Dragon Age before, which is completely at odds with the fact that it's the conclusion of the fucking series and a part 2 of the last game's cliffhanger story. The concept of Elven gods showed up in Inquisition. All Origins had was mentions of Elves used to have cities and such but everything was destroyed so they separated in City Elf, Slaves and the free Dalish.

DAI went full ELVEN GODS EVERYWHERE but never did anything for them other than present them as "the ruling class". They are not presented as the creators of elves or anything like that.

Let alone DAI ended with you having a big team to try and stop Solas, with even the option to keep the Inquisition intact.
None of it mattered.

Yeah, but it's not in the way I meant. The hooded guys in the pic anon posted are the kings of the long game and, to further their goals, occasionally took on the mantle of the hero to save the world. To give a more clear example, it's as if the Hero of Ferelden turned out to have been one of the hooded fucks in disguise. Mythal being Andraste (well Flemeth to be precise) was kind of a theory that was floating around for awhile, so it's just confirmation after the fact

I have a list of complaints, but if we want some positives:

All of the classes are boring to play as. Melee feels floaty and weightless, parrying is not nicely tuned. Combat is tedious and there's nothing to look forward to in the talent tree.

Once you make enough choices of one colour it changes the way that Hawke responds when you don't have control of the dialogue wheel.

Why are people lying about the game? Solas didn't cause the blight, Bellara does have a sex scene, he didn't let the evanuris escape, the trans dialogue option is clearly labeled before you click on it among several normal responses and then it opens another section of responses that you then also have the choice between one of which is being normal. These are just a few off the top that I keep seeing here. Why are people intentionally and knowingly lying about the game so much? Is this normal here?

I actually like the environments and some of the character models. Moment to moment character writing is inarguably dogshit. Companions either talk in circles or slap each other on the ass telling them how they're the best them in the whole of Thedas. If it were a different studio then Bioware I'd be waiting for the tongue-in-cheek joke scene to drop where they have some raunch, hedonistic circle jerk. 2H warrior is the only class that has been even remotely fun to play, which says a lot since you've probably already beaten 10 other action-adventure games with the same combat style. Talent trees are 75% generic passives. Enemies are so flat and poorly designed that you fight the entire of the enemy library within the first 3 hours. Exploration is nothing, as in nothing but mission to mission on rails corridors. Any time there's even a semblance of an encounter of old Bioware or old Dragon Age, it's gone within 3-5 minutes. Ridiculous is the only way I can summarize it.

So I actually sat down and watched Taash’s companion quest. And…it actually does suck. Taash is constantly an asshole to their mother, Rook can’t say shit about Taash’s obvious anger issues besides encouraging them and saying they’re ok. Taash goes from “i hate being a woman” to realizing they’re non-binary completely offscreen and rook questions why they didn’t instantly tell their mother. We’ve all seen the awful dinner scene where 3/4 options are “your mom is awful” and there’s no meaningful resolution to Taash and their mom reconciling or mom’s acceptance or lack thereof because their mother just fucking dies from getting kidnapped to get to Taash. And then Taash learns they’re Qun special because they can fire breathe. The end!

Mothers and daughters often do have weird contentious relationships irl where a lot of resentments build up and their mom actively admits her failings as a mother, they’re both a little surly to each other and the mother is always seen as being in the wrong. Taash’s entire quest is terribly written and feels unearned. The non-binary stuff isn’t even handled well, it’s, like most things in the game, offscreen

It's super obvious against aggressive enemies too. Especially since enemy AI tends to ignore your companions and makes a beeline straight for you. Can't really hang back and go pew pew with your staff when you have enemies trying to fuck your face.

nta, I've only just started mage and the dagger definitely feels stronger right out of the box, but yeah I can see all of these staff boosts that look insane so I'm going to try to build north then northeast as well

I'm not convinced the evoker ult is worth it, though, because mage having a headshot laser beam that instantly deletes bosses from the get go is kind of crazy. Also makes the fact that rogue's ultimates are all AoE shit really stand out as stupid
