"Defensive drills" doesn't need to mean practicing to play defensive, it means damage control for when the enemy's oppressive offense starts.
In a game where you can just downback until they go away there's no need to practice defense.

that's what i meant by studying risk/reward, but in a game with drive gauge chip and throw loops, you don't have the safety of taking the "safe route"
if you dont take a risk teching/backdashing eventually, you'll lose the round, and the moment you decide to do it, you can get punished for over half your hp bar. hasn't always been like this

Yeah I figured, so far only real thing is custom model posting but that’s just script injection from already made key-poses of the cast and even avatars. I know Tekken 8 has moveset replacers but that’s been in the works since 2019 with Tekken 5DR and Tekkeny Psp mod groups. Something like mysterious mod was also not widely worked on thing too

mr inflates naturally, as more people reach master, the points available in the pool increase and the top players get a bit higher up. this happens in dota, chess, etc.
clearly reaching 2.6k in chess 20 years ago was a lot harder than today. so it makes sense that reaching 2k mr in the middle of the season is harder than reaching 2k mr now.

Even if the number of master players didnt change in a cycle, all start at 1500. so bunch of people loose them more and more moving the points up, ofc some of them would be concentrated in top players, but on average it will naturaly bring up all people who can hold over 50% winrate

he's getting non-perfect booms because he's basically charge buffering every boom. He's doing:
charge back > forward > back > punch
So he gets charge as soon as possible. It doesn't work every time, but it's pretty clear that's what he's doing. It used to be the best way to do booms.

Capcom is a company that wants to make profit and reduce costs for development. I'd imagine people like Akiman and Shimomura wouldn't exactly ask for pennies like some random Guilty Gear player like Woshige would, for the reason you mentioned.

I know this is a bit OT, but I was thinking of moving on PC since I'm still playing on a PS4 and I don't see much value on a PS5 since most games are coming to PC anyway and I play mostly SF6. The worst part about SF is that labbing is fucking useless and you can't learn anything from trying shit against matchups you suck at because everything is safe and it's always just guess better. Nothing I could do in training mode that'd make me better at fighting vs Gief/shotos/Cammy. Possibly the game that rewards actually practicing matchups the least out of any fighter I've played.

SF5 had a little more of that because characters had more unique tools but it was still just frame data fighter in the end. Anon is right and anime games are better at that. Let me use a wacky move that low profiles donkey kick on reaction so the Ryu player cannot use it unless he figures out a way to deal with the move and then you go from here. Instead here it's just let him donkey king you 7000 times or whiff punish it or whatever I don't know. There's never any moves that just hard counter other moves. Imagine if I could just 6P Ryu's donkey kick, Ken's dragon lash, Hazanshu etc. It'd be so much better.

I think this comment most of all made me realize that while not all the complaints are like this...a lot of the complaints about SF6 are just people who are fundamentally bad at videogames. Just take a second to think about the logic of "If I can replay something a thousand times ina training room and perfect my script, I should be able to win all the time in the real thing where variables should necessarily be more fluid because I'm not fighting a fucking robot who can't fight back" This is like a nerds idea of "fighting". It's not about responding, reacting, baiting, spacing. Because all of those things are things that will NECESSARILY be fluid based on context. You can't perfectly lab something that can be safe dependent on ones spacing, because that is a 100% SKILL based thing on both ends.

Its funny. Unfortunately since this place is shitpost heaven, absolutely NOBODY will understand what I am about to reference...but I reminds me of when Daigo was talking about the difference between SF4 and 5 and why he didn't like SF4, and he mentioned that in SF4 there were players who weren't ACTUALLY good, but because they sat in the training room forever practicing their script, they were able to climb and beat players better than them. I am paraphrasing but this was in response to a chatter in his chat asking him why he (the chatter) was able to climb so easily in 4, but gets shit on in 5.

Daigo basically said (which is funny because this is contrary to the idea of frame fighter 5) that SF5 is a game where you learn during actual play, and SF4 is a game where you run your script over and over again till you win.

It is very obvious which one more naturally embodies actual fighting and skill.

And before some mentally stunted worthless inbred fucking retard tries to deflect to "lemao he is le defending le sf6 omg let me le bring this up so I never have to address his point". I haven't played SF6 in a year because of how shit it is. But youre shit too.

You have no room to call other people bad at videogames if you don't understand what labbing defense in a matchup actually means, you retard.
It's not about some perfect robot response with 100% safety, it's about actually understanding the opponent's options and thus what you can do to response. Real fighting games have actual varied and complicated offense. Labbing lets you understand those options, and what you can do in response and where. It's about knowing the various risks involved, what they want to do, what will actually get you out of the situation, where they'll be spaced after one thing or another and how to recognize an opponent's tricks, and so on. It's about recognizing the layer one options, then the layer two options, then the layer three options, and so on. Understanding all of those is what lends a fighting game actual depth.

You completely missed the point. The point was that SF4's offense developed to the point where it was all true vortex mixups at a high level. It was the same situation as SF6, just with more complicated ways to get to the same place. Within the context of proper competition there ALSO became less and less of a reason to lab defensive play in that game because again, you were ultimately just guessing. Strong offensive scripts reduce the need for defensive training, which is what that anon was fucking talking about you inbred mongoloid.

I feel like regardless of my character i have to suffer during the match, it never feel like i'm the one forcing my opponent to play my game, it's always me who have to walk forward and play reactively which is pretty fucking hard in a game with so much safe specials, DI, fireballs to parry, jump in, dashes and so on.

When I vs a Jamie, every round start I mental stack myself because I have to watch for:

If your character has a fireball there is literally no excuse for Jamie to ever get drinks.
He also has to give up oki multiple times for drinks in a game where everyone else just mixes you to death with endless offense, and his damage at low drinks is poor so he ALWAYS requires more interactions to kill than any other character. Also literally all of his specials are the worse version of that move archetype, every single one. Also he has no typical 5HP which is crucial to how the game is played. Also his anti-airs are abysmal and he has literally no far reaching anti-air move meaning neutral jumps in neutral are a genuine threat for him. Also...

Unless he's close enough to do the LK version it's almost certainly not on reaction. Including the minimum input timing for a half circle, every other version has an equal/longer startup than DI which is universal anyway. Also they're all hideously unsafe, and unless he has lvl 2 for EX Bakkai have fucking no reward (oh boy the character weak to fireballs read my fireball with his extremely risky move and... sent me fullscreen at -10).

If he's literally just backdashing and drinking and you're holding forward at roundstart you could walk up and straight up jab him. It's 48 frames. You should be able to hit him somehow.
He has other options at round start obviously, but if it's just those you're worried about you can cover them all is all I'm saying. Try setting up some replays and practicing if you really need to.

watching this tourney, you can kind of tell that some of the no name players just hardcore practiced drive rush combos and have no actual fundamentals or game sense whatsoever lol. they just know all the set ups and situational combos, can't even hit confirm or anything, poor drive meter management, doesn't DI when their opponent has a sliver of drive bar etc.
I'm not trying to act like Id do any better. Id honestly probably do worse, but it's funny to see the game so blatantly reward players who basically think at the level that I do.

I actually find that of all the top tiers, Juri tends to have the shortest combos, unless she spends level 2, which Juris never do, specially because so many of her combos are gated behind stocks. This is not to say she does no damage, it's just that Ive always felt she has the least optimal combos. I feel like grouping Rashid with Kimberly makes more sense in terms of lengthy combos.

That isn't the same kind of random as parry in an enemy's offense or guessing whether they'll shimmy or throw you for the fourth time. It is actually predicting what the opponent will do, and trying to remain unpredictable will still using strong options. And this goes beyond SF6 too, a recent example from the new COTW is Billy Kane's new design. Maybe it's cool for new people, but it's not the classic design and to chase a certain mood (British thug) and make it flashy they forgot that sometimes less is more.

I'm not just talking about gameplay, but everything. Look at the way he walks forward, the way he parries, the way he crouches, blocks, jumps in. Etc. Just look at him. Every single one of his loves just look wrong and retarded, like he doesn't actually know how to fight at all. The OD version of her anti air kick is good in Modern, that's definitely a benefit. Her level 2 & 1 also have good modern synergy for checking jumps, drive rushes, and big whiffs. And you saw the Modern Manon making use of one button light degage and spin. But importantly, that Modern Manon was just good, he is a legend rank player in Japan and probably has a mountain of experience against Juri whereas I suspect Nephew has never seen a Modern Manon in his life before.

Since nobody answered: same way anyone beats a turtle guile in this game. Bait him into whiffing normals. If won't bite, just walk up and pressure him. If he won't bite still, walk up throw. You'd be surprised how much an occasional walk up throw works against a full turtle Guile.
Failing that make him block a move and slime cancel. You'll probably need a true blockstring slime walk to stop him flash kick OSing you and afaik true blockstring into low doesn't catch him if he's quick.
Also don't be afraid to make him come to you with a lifelead. You can sit there and parry all day if you have to.

Note: I'm shit ignore all of this
