Good things valve contributed to dota:

>Impenetrable high ground
>Ridiculous amount of gpm for everyone
>A map full of creeps that anyone can farm at any time
>Mass removal of trees and general phasing out of clever juking play by cutting trees
>Neutral items
>Shitty pick/ban systems in ranked
>Redundancy of laning stage
>redundancy of death as a consequence early game (Can die 10 times in lane, doesnt matter if you participate in a single kill then you get rich again)

And overall just poorly managing dota to take it from being a really popular wc3 mod, to being that weird "other version of lel" that isnt that popular in the mainstream

>Neutral feelings on- Watchers, portals, roshan pits, outposts, I dont think they're bad, but they aren't high impact enough on games for me to really think they were a great idea

the strangest thing about saudi dota tournaments is that it doesn't even feel like the tournaments were planned around dota. you could just as easily see this being a lol or street fighter tournament instead which makes me wonder why they're throwing so much money at these events without putting in any effort to give them the usual amenities you see in dota tournaments.

Innates are pure bloat.
Facets are a neat idea implemented poorly. They've been implemented to give heroes a carry and a support build half the time. What facets should do is give a hero more than one way to play the same role so we get different play styles (while itemisation and skill builds is how you should adapt to playing a completely different role).

Take AM for example. One facet just gives him his old reflecting ability which you could theoretically pair with his shard to play support, but nothing else about him leads to playing support so its pointless. Instead his 2nd facet should allow him to play a carry playstyle different from the same ol' 20min afk battlefury build he's forced to do every single game.

Why do I get matched with literal new players (not smurfs) in normal when I have 5000 matches? Valve what the fuck I just had duo who most likely don't even know what game they were playing.

I went from fibre to the node, to fibre to the premises. My speed should have gone from 50mbps down to 250. However, they don't let you choose where the node in your house goes so the modem is at the tail end of the house. I can't get the ethernet cord to reach my PC which is on a different floor. Previously i used powerline adaptors for years with no issue, but overnight that's become totally unreliable. I'm going to have to fork out thousands of $$ for an electrician to come around and wire my house.

If Gladiators don't end up in the top three of any event this season, I'd say kicking Dyrachyo was the biggest reshuffle failure I've ever seen in pro Dota. However, I've "only" been watching since 2017.

Does anyone know examples of a team falling off harder than present day GG? They've won a ton of events and had many high placements, yet still kicked him.

I seriously think matchmaking takes playtime or amount of matches into consideration. Even the best players in the world have those weird losing streaks when they are spamming matches for 10 hours a day. If you've been on a win streak and you've lost two or three matches It's probably time to turn dota off, watch some streams, play another game, go outside and do some yard work or something. At least for a day or two. Then the matchmaking will "reset" and you're less likely to get troll games.

Right the rank 50-1 players, many of whom have won money playing this game professionally, that lose ten games in a row need to "git gud". How much more "gud" do you need to get? The match making very obviously forces losses on players by giving you teammates that either grief you or somehow works against your playstyle or hero picks. You don't suddenly become bad for ten games in a row and then become a good player again. I'm tired of people denying it when we literally see and experience the shit every week.

I live in the socialist hellhole of Australia so the government made the change, and my ISP says that they don't think powerline adaptors are reliable and the connection is otherwise working fine so they won't help. I could run the cabling myself but I'm not very handy and it's a two-storey house so you can't get in the roof/floor and accessing the walls is difficult. I can't run the cable over the floor because it'd be a trip hazard for my kids. Short of getting an electrician, the best option is to buy a USB wifi receiver and play on wifi.

it's really not that hard, you just need a drill to make the holes between the walls, some cable passers (don't know how they're called) to have them stay on the walls and go up and down doors for same room connections and think about where it'd look better to hide the cables (i.e. have most of the study's lenght pass behind some furniture so it can just lay there hidden no prob)
and i guess your landlord's approval if you're renting. or you can just say fuck it and have the cable run through the house in open view messy as fuck, who's gonna stop you? you're an adult live how you want

dota was also getting a hero a week for a couple of months though
deadlock's last real hero was what, 2 months ago now? and it uses all the shitty training dummy animations on top of that. the bottleneck of NEEDING the art team and hero design to deliver shit asap because it's a hero shooter rims it's ugly head more and more which didn't happen with dota since they both had the concept for the heros already there and you didn't need to be so grand with characters and animations given that it was a top down 2010 source game

they also got hopoo working on heroes now which lol, lmao. good luck having him come up with actually interesting kits that aren't just rehashes of old systems.

hence why I said REAL heroes. what we have in the lab right now is basically just them fucking around with existing kits and models to see what sticks, no actual new ideas or implementations. No real characters because none of them have proper voice acting, animations, models or dialogue with anyone else besides the shopkeeper. Some of them don't even have ultimates yet and you can't even use them outside of two hours a day, so you might get unlucky and not get to play one of the new "heroes" at all.
Nobody's gonna come back to play the game because they released MAGICIAN (flat grey faceless blob using seven's gun, voicelines and animation) -- his kit isn't that interesting. Most heroes' kits aren't that interesting on their own, for that matter.

If they have to rush it it'll be 100% unfinished for sure. Expect to see a lot of the models and animations that have been promised to "not be final" to basically be the final thing, and concepts like the urn to be even worse and less thought out than before. But what can you do? They're at a bottleneck when new release of content but clearly don't have the manpower needed to keep up with the pace they'd need to release it at. No company does in this case, really.

To add to this a better move would've been to just fucking release holiday and calico as they are right now. Those ARE basically finished (comparatively) heroes. Holiday's been sitting in the files for fucking ever when all she really needed was a tweak so the barrels worked properly, her 3rd skill doesn't even matter that much. But now you just can't play them outside of the stupid 2 hour period so most players aren't gonna bother.

IIRC Sunsfan mentioned that Valve stopped doing shit like that because they just didn't want to do it anymore.
Developers were approaching Valve with ideas for them and Valve just didn't care.
I think it was around the same time he was trying to deal with them to get Ability Arena one of the passes some other Dota Custom Games got but Valve stopped caring about those as well and didn't want to help him.

Some events have very few technical issues, but others have a lot of them.

I usually immediately switch to some other stream if it looks like the one I'm watching might be be at fault. The worst example I remember is from 2021 or something. The official English stream of an event went down for such a long time, that Gorgc and the Russian one got ~1,5x viewership.

She feels like a jack of all trades, queen of none. luminosity reads like she should be a carry that can turn up to fights like spectre to heal her team mates and turn the tide. Facet 2 synergizes with luminosity so theoretically you want a lot of attack speed to abuse luminosity + facet 2... Only problem is facet 2 just reduces her spell cooldown. Her 2nd spell is just a gapcloser, and her first spell reduces your DSP so much its counter productive to right-clicking.

On the other hand, her heals aren't good enough to make her a good tank (they aren't percentage based either so you prefer armour over health with items) and spell 1 and 2 just aren't enough as a support.

Whatever purpose you would pick her for, theres another hero that does that job better.

Creating a new account won't instaban you, you'll probably get flagged as a smurf and you'll be pitched with and against other smurfs/boosters for a shitload of games, like 1000+ games. Only then you'll start to get matched with players not flagged as smurfs/boosters

Even before this one, there was a book or something where Valve said that they found that they made more money for something when they just never said anything. So they just chose to stick to that plan and never ever talk in public if they can help it. Lack of communication isn't an accident, it's intentional. The thing about dota (and lol) is that they're inherently unbalanced so there's going be certain aspects worth betting on. What's more, dota is so much more vastly complex than card games that its much more possible to see factors that the bookie missed if you're shrewed enough

I don't gamble and don't advise doing so, but if there were a game to gamble on, Dota would be one of the better options. Better than sports card games and casino machines.

Thats the problem with having many tournaments instead of just a few with large prize pools. It also makes it much harder to follow as a fan because dota games take so long so who the fuck has the time to watch all this shit?
