Forced and scripted loss events are fine when after it ends, you are recovered or given the means to recover.
They aren't fine when you have to bear the losses and spend your resources to recover.

Elden Ring, by all means, isn't a game marketed as "hardcore", and developers even give you various means to invalidate or trivialize challenges.
The developers even straight out said Spirit Ashes and other clutches were meant to be actively used as part of your build.
So all difficulty in Elden Ring ultimately comes from self-imposed challenges and handicap.
Which is different when developers go out of the way to screw over you in specific moments.

Removing the cases of scripted loss where it's obviously just a narrative choice and you are recovered afterwards, which are the acceptable events, scripted loss is only fine if you know of it's existence (example: RNG), that they are coming, given enough hints or there are obviously ways to circumvent it on first try, even when playing blind.

Most of the content I've been through so far has enemies either weak to earth or neutral to it. Adam has a trait that reduces the effect of elemental resistances but it doesn't completely negate it.
I honestly just fed my Adams to myself and Yeka
You can teach mages any spell also, and Yeka negating ambushes has saved me so many times

This has some interesting implications (beyond RFS crossover). Wiz6-8 had some weird, creative classes that could be added. It does effectively put Gadgeteer/Bard on the table, at least, which iirc are W8 exclusive.

There are some Japanese-exclusive Wizardry games that use these classes (like Throb of the Demon's Heart, which isn't that great). They've also made a few of their own classes, which also aren't that great. imo I would say dagger if you're hidden and Bow with precise shot if you haven't gotten the chance to hide.
But this is all just by feel I doubt anyone done actual testing.
I've heard people claim it does an hp% but, then again nobody really knows.

Full +5 Steel (or equivalent, like Light or Thief's) armor and +5 Soil weapons (barring the casters, who just have Steel-tier staves). The furthest I've made it is getting her to resurrect after clearing the first add wave. I feel like I'm missing something because the amount of damage she can shit out is bananas. Worst part is that neither Melgina or Octo have a pattern for who they target. Sometimes they target one row each, sometimes it's both on a single row (at least one person will die from this). Turtling isn't a viable strat since you can only keep up with healing one row at a time. I'm stumped.

Anyways, I am using daggers rn on my thief and what im noticing is that, on openings, the damage is only big on the first dagger strike. This could mean that bows out damage on openings since dagger damage is good when it's two hits that critically strike.

Is the B8F request the current best exp farm?
If you back out of the 3rd wave, you can refight the 1st and 2nd wave again just by going towards the group. No cursed wheel fuckery needed and you can visit the B7F fountain for heals without leveling up.
The enemies are also level 40, so even if you do rest at the inn you won't be suffering from an exp penalty for a long while.
The duo ents and triple lesser demons can gang up and kill a char if you are unlucky though.

+1~+4 only costs gold.
+5 costs a relatively common mat in the den of earth and unlocks/upgrades the 1st substat.
If you have the gold for it, you should +5 your equips.
That said, iron is a relatively rare drop in the later parts of the beginner abyss but there's a pretty good wind sword in B5F you can get for free.

While bosses do have gimmicks, they are usually relatively easy to figure out.
Bosses are more like stat checks due to the amount of ways to get stronger.
Helmut is weak to wind and you can reversal the stones.
Otherwise, to get stronger, you can unlock grade up exam to increase the level limit once MC hits his level limit.
Den of earth should've unlocked by then, so you go up to +10 with a ton of grinding.
With +10 weapons and level 30, he should be a relatively straight forward fight.

Debra has a sp recovery passive on kill, she can be useful if you give her a strong enough bow to one-shot pesky archers/mages before they blow up your backline.
Adam is an elementally neutral mage, personally I don't find him that good, but he isn't bad since all legendary mages/priests start with a once per battle AoE spell.
Yekaterina is pretty good for a beginner, her passive boosts damage against undeads which are common on the later parts of the 1st story dungeon, and her earth element means earth spells which has an elemental advantage in the 2nd story dungeon.

Defend doesn't make openings. Only use to tank hits/rams you know are coming. His key attacks like ram, rock fall, body throw and summon seem based on his HP threshold. He doesn't attack first action cause he hits Lulu, so buff your Mage. I didn't bother blocking. Wind Mage is super good here + Mental Unity to buff. Don't debuff him, it missed 9/10 times. Makaltu yourself and backrow. Make sure you have AoE scrolls or MP for summons + having Alice is also good because she has AoE for summons. Reversal the rocks. Do not let anyone die, paralysis will ruin the run.

Bring the digging mattock, it has a 4-6 hit attack against the rubble. If you destroy the rubble before reversing it you'll deal around 500 damage and stun the boss for 1-2 turns.

Okay, I died after like 14 rounds vs the true true boss of Dungeon 2. I think this is doable, but very RNG. The key thing is Song of Slumber. If Song of Slumber goes off, and everyone can't be cured, someone's dropping. I had an unlucky run that went Song of slumber -> tsunami to kill half my team, but even after that I kept going 6 rounds.
I think with some good RNG this can be done, but I think it wants a level 50 team for it.

Pretty sure you only need to break one then have the whole line cleared so he advances onto it.
Have your party (including someone with the mattock) attack one rock while your MC reverses any extra rocks

1 Broken rock underneath Helmut when he moves forward only stuns with 1 or 2 damage, a 2nd rock increases the damage to 500. The 3rd rock when rocks fall again probably increases the damage further.

Ah, that explains the damage discrepancy I was seeing.
Just getting the stun off can be pretty good in NG+ where he hits like a truck. Repeating the courtesan quest didn't get me an extra mattock and that mattock pretty much still needs two turns to break the rocks for some reason

I just beat helmut ng+ and Im planning on lvling / rearranging chars to see if stuff works at all
debra eva / dagger frontline and seeing if I could run 2 mages if I have 1 inherit ma/dios + a few buffs

You should get the option to give the letter to the commander when you return to the dungeon. Doing that will lock you out of the bondmate though. Choose the other option to talk it out with Albano then return to town. His uncle will give you another request.

Half of the difficulty in this game is basically due to mana being a finite resource. You basically want to conserve it so you have it when you most need it. You're not meant to spam aoes every fight. And yes, mages are pretty useless early game.

Dupes can be used to inherit their skills to another character and/or disciplined into the same character, both consume the dupe character. Alts (so far it's only Lana) can also be merged which lets a character switch between the two alts. Both Lana's are knights and have the same skill, so it's basically a skin.

Discipline is just a minor stat boost and different characters get different favored stats that go up a bit higher each time. SSRs give one of their unique skill though it's nerfed if given to someone other than themselves. SRs give a class skill, and nameless generics give generic stat ups.

Since stats are mostly the same between characters of the same race + class, and skills are minor in effect, inheritance does mean that any character can become a god if you feed them enough copies of literally every character in the game.

Late game she's pretty much useless, as the minimum you're getting hit for is about 70 damage and your team is at 300-400 base HP.

I doubt there's any significant effect, if any at all. It's a spook.

I've been sleeping at economy the whole game until level 45, so if I'm ever swimming in cash I'll switch to 5000g rooms exclusively and if there's any real difference I'll immediately notice it.

I just killed Helmut, it didn't work, I am not seeing Albano anywhere and I didn't get the LUK guiding light or anything.
My objective was stuck in something else though and I can confirm it at least gave me the Helmut objective gems (250) properly.
I will keep going and get iron gear, maybe do the 40 uncap quest and then I will go back and do it without the wheel (and maybe get my objective unstuck as well).

You unlock it on well of mind. It's really unintuitive since the game doesn't really tell you (until it is) but it basically unlock a previously locked nodes indicated by some dark clouds a top of the node. From there just clock over the dark clouds which one correspond with your guiding light. But you can't use the guiding light yet until you spend points on nodes leading to the corresponding guiding light. Fucking kusoge.

Sega hasnt lost turn based. They just released Metaphor, SMT VV and P3P this year. They definitely need to bring back Etrian though because Daphne is what I want for EO6 in terms of immersion.

I deleted the cache on the title screen. Redownloaded everything and tried to jump into the game. Got the error once more.
But then I just deleted the cache once more in a desperate effort. And somehow the second time I didn't get the error. Though the chest was gone so I didn't get the treasure.

Holy fuck. Beat the true true end of Dungeon 2. What a fucking brutal boss.
Fight strategy/spoilers.
The fight starts with Melgina and Octonarus on the tracker. Melgina mostly debuffs, occasionally casting Tsunami. Octonarius takes control of the boat, meaning he can do all the fucky boat stuff. Melgina has about 3k hp in two instances, weak to Earth. Octonarus cannot be harmed. Once her first 3k hp is depleted, she'll revive with another 3k set. Once dead the second time, she stays dead and Octonarus comes to the fray.
The fight becomes much easier when it's just Octonarus, since he's not hitting you with the debuff -> nuke combo. However, it becomes an endurance match at this point. He still has all his AoEs, and he seems to have around 10k hp. At this point, you're just weathering the storm until he dies. It's extremely important to ration your healers MP, using potions where needed and only Medios when an entire row gets maximum benefit. If people will survive a nuke, let them go unhealed. If someone is too low, resign yourself to just reviving them.
Cortu is MANDATORY every turn to stuff the damage. Morlis/Armor Break is recommended, but Morlis is way more accurate and time efficient. Everyone should have something that lowers water / fire damage taken, and ideally soil weapons.
My loadout on everyone was 2 Rockfall Scrolls (for add phases), 2 Potions of the highest healing (extreme?), 1 shared power scroll for the frontline.
I did it at level 44, but I would recommend 45 on everyone for comfortability. It was very tight.
The reward is: Melgina bondmate and LUK lantern. Bondmate is Divine Power + Sleep Tolerance.
All in all, maybe the hardest fight in the game currently in both level and scope.

Oh right. If you do the Geussi titanium questline he shows up to throw a few basic attacks into the fray before he dies. All in all, he only contributed 500~ or so damage to the fight, so if you can't get his stuff to trigger it doesn't seem like a huge difference, but every pinch of damage counts so if you have the choice, do the sidequest.

It's really not, not with her defense. Between upkeeping your buffs, dealing with her debuffs, you're only probably going to be able to output 750~ a round if all your fighters get to swing in. Even Sneak Attack was only doing 200/200~ on a good hit with Debra against her def-down.
I promise you, it goes by quickly but it feels like a long time when everyone is fucked.

Here's the walkthrough:
Step 1, beat the arena and rescue whatever dude you need to rescue. This probably will be your 2nd run since they're fated to die on their first go-round, but you can abort before finishing to fix that.
With them saved, they'll give you a Mermaid Lexicon. Go back through every map and reread the statues. Don't worry about the one Gessi breaks, it's not real.
Once you've reread all seven tales, go back to where Melgina taught you how to breathe in water. You'll get the option to say you want to free her from Octonarus. She'll give you a questline in the capital. Do that.
Give her the result, continue through the town as normal. When you get to Geussi destorying the statue, talk to him. He gives you a quest. Do that, return to him. Continue as normal through the arena.
When you beat Geussen, you are faced with Melgina and get a new option; you can wish to free Melgina. Stuff will happen, the true final boss fight will begin.

Quick question, my weekly store has Chloe (knight) book and my furrywaifu is 39lvl atm.

She'll keep all passives, though some are Knight Only (notably, the ones that force them to take hits for other people). I'm not sure if Knight gets anything as a passive thats terribly useful, though.

You may be thinking of Sin Chronicle, which had a fine gimmick but horrible execution.
The overall production quality of that game was on par with what I've experienced so far with this Daphne.
Playing that one since launch, the issue it had was that you couldn't play that game free to play at all. They copied Princess Connect's model for character upgrades and acquisition but made it damn near impossible to raise even the free story characters you get from your penultimate story branching choice.
In fact, it was actually easier to upgrade gacha rolled characters because rolling gave you more upgrade materials (Character Shards) for that respective banner character than playing the game normally would ever give you for a story character that was given to you for free and will always be inferior to gacha characters. Then to make it even worse, you could only experience special character stories with unique artwork by max upgrading that character, so most players would never unlock that kind of content for those characters, in a story driven game no less.
