I think both of these are enough evidence that Urien's name was supposed to be Julian. It's interesting this is never addressed anywhere.

you might think that but it's actually very satisfying to anti-air in 2d fighters, it's actually one of their biggest appeals compared to 2d imo. of course it depends on who you're playing and how much reward your AA gets you, but forcing someone to stop jumping around like a retard feels great.
when someone says "turn green and go fast," they mean to spam drive rush in neutral, which is a legitimately powerful playstyle. idk if you know but drive rush also makes your normals +4 more than usual. so if you drive rush and do a -3 on block normal, it'll become +1.

When you compare the top 10 to the bottom 10, there's a huge gap in how easy it is to work your gameplay and keep your pressure going in multiple interactions.
Ironically enough the bottom 10 are all the more unique characters, who feel like they have to put in an additional level of effort to get the same thing the top characters get from the word go

Lol there isn't a bottom 10. There's like a bottom 5 max. And no, most of them are not "unique" beyond gimmick chars like dhalsim, who, even then will just crmk drive rush you.

There's like a bottom 3 max. The type of character people call "bottom 10" are just the standard unpopular characters with half baked gimmicks and no actual coherent gameplan. Lily, Marisa, Kimberly, Honda etc.

The true Bottom 3 is like Manon, Jamie...and no one else really. All the other characters can either lean on their gimmicks, their damage, or Oki.

volatility is a direct result of the drive gauge allowing big damage conversions from almost all hits, this coupled with the super gauge being a separate meter that you don't need to use for anything else means everyone gets a guaranteed +50% combo every single match. volatility will likely be a permanent feature of the game until the next SF entry UNLESS they add some kind of combo breaking mechanic that only works on drive cancel combos and/or an additional mechanic that uses super gauge.

Idk how it is in EU but It's not that 1800mr is special compared to 1900mr, it's that it's the range where you start consistently fighting known tournament players. I'm 1700mr in NA east and I rarely get paired with top guys like dual kevin, shine, booce, crossover and etc while in the 1700s but the few days I manage to dip into 1800mr pool I more frequently start running into those players which means to consistently stay in 1800mr you have to be around the competitive tournament level, well, atleast in my region. I more so view 1900mr+ where you can flat out win big tournaments, that's something different than just being good enough to play at high level.

Baseline mastery of a character means you can beat scrubs with ease. I face tons of people who can beat me, but when I check their history they lose to flowchart shotos because those people don't play "proper". I don't care how good you are, if you can't beat a flowchart Ken with 99% certainty then you can't play at all. Your first goal in any fighting game should be to be able to utterly destroy scrubs who pick the most popular characters.

i have over 140,000 drive tickets and i don't enter any character specific tournaments except for my main and I skip at least half of the other tournaments. I just do the weeklies and then enter some of the tournaments, stopped doing avatar battles a long time ago. I think I got half of those tickets from the daily chipotle tournaments when the game launched. chipotle kings are always riding high.

Whats more you end up relying on universal mechanics or bad habits even more to compensate.

what you are saying is true, but it is not very helpful for bdj. He's basically permastuck, although he has improved despite his claims otherwise. But progress for him is still incredibly slow, much slower than for anyone else considering how much he has played. For him, it is actually a viable strategy to try other characters and see if he does better with them, because it could very well equate to more than a year's worth of work with one character that he's bad at. The problem is that it's completely unpredictable how good he will be with a character. For example, he played dee jay and Juri, so you'd think that when he played Akuma it would be a breeze, but it was actually nearly impossible for him to reach Master. Ryu is similarly very difficult for him, despite how good he claims the character to be. It's a roll of the dice, but regardless we will always support him.

He's not doing better with any character, he's most likely playing them how he think they should be played and sometimes it works out a bit better, sometimes it does not.

Meanwhile had he stuck with DeeJay and actually learned set ups, combos, frame traps and what not he'd have objectively improved in a meaningful way, and top it all by switching so much he doesn't even have a baseline to evaluate his progress allowing him to doom even more.

Like b.HP being +1 sounded amazing on paper, but you can't really get any pressure out of it due to the pushback, you can get a CH jab into nothing.
Sure you can drive rush after it or use the +f to set up a throw, but redditgief get much more potent mix up and damage with the headbutt and easier to confirm it at that, in fact you don't even have to single hit confirm it now.

It's genuinely getting kind of annoying hearing some retard try to imply that Jamie is actually not bottom 3 just because he showed up in Singapore like wtf? Or the more convincing inverse (for even midwittier midwits) where Cammy players will unironically downplay her because she's not actually that represented in pro play besides some winnings.

I feel like there are so many fucking ways this logic falls apart. What about Juri? Who was barely represented last season but won Capcom Cup? What about the final seasons of SFV where Dhalsim was like OBJECTIVELY broken, and a HARD counter to the most represented character in the entire game (Luke) and absolutely nobody touched him? You're telling me that PRO players, the top and peak of the game can't fucking learn Dhalsim? Yeah you're kidding.

Here's the reality: Some characters will ALWAYS be more represented than others, simply because they are appealing to pro players. Either aesthetically, classically (Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Bison have been around forever and there are some who will always play them) or just in terms of playstyle (Jamie is worse than Honda and Lily (fuck Honda down players, the most disgusting downplayers, what a genuinely revolting character) but will almost always be picked as a secondary over the two, because he has more skill expression and cooler moves in general)

Honestly, it's the Manon upplayers the most I'll never understand. Why the fuck do some people basically make it their life mission to pretend she's not the weakest character in the game? Saw some retard screeching that it's propoganda that Manon is bad.

Makes me wonder if there's just something about Manon that decimates bad players, but loses outright to good players that explains the complaining. And I know it's NOT cmnd grab because everybody was circlejerking Gief (even inspite of the perpetual haters) being bottom 1 last season.

I just don't get it. Nothing in this game has counters, it doesn't matter what I do I just always lose to overpowered shit like DI which has no counterplay. The more and more I play I realize you just have to play the human in front of you in this game, not the character/game, which really sucks because that is by far and away the worst part of fighting games. Winning based on reads is such a disgraceful things I just cannot force myself to do it (which is why I will never EX DP. I just don't get it.

All these players are so incredibly good I just feel completely outclassed, once one of these games finishes there's absolutely nothing to learn or take into the next game.

because its a really stressful game. but how would we ever know this, most japanese aren't that outspoken. i know momochi has gone on record a lot saying he loves it. bonchan is more mixed on it. a lot of previously lesser known japanese pros are enjoying a lot of financial benefits they didn't have before because of SF6 so they probably respect the game no matter what.

the reason you OD DP is because it nets you returns over the whole set, it's not just the immediate damage. If you OD DP them one time it means they will either shimmy or block more often, which makes their offense more predictable, and means it's hard for them to get damage on you.
Also I looked at your match history and I've seen you beat multiple Ryus and Kens with Guile. Here is you win rate:
Ryu: 40% (17 battles)
Ken: 66% (9 battles)
Zangief: 50% (8 battles)
Cammy: 0% (4 battles)

You're doing fine in all of these matchups, except Cammy but you've only fought her 4 times so you can't really judge from that. But the rest of these "impossible" matches that you think you lose 90% of the time are not bad at all. You just feel bad about after losing, which is understandable, but your negativity is distorting your perception of reality.

I never feel I have to make these kind of enormous reads the entire game in Strive at all. ESPECIALLY not in the corner which is so retardedly stressful in 6 I often just give up on the spot, it's actively unfun. DI is so fucking strong it just means I cannot freely play. SF6 matches feel like a math test not a video game, especially vs characters like Ken, Cammy, Ryu etc who just go apeshit and put you in the corner in 1 hit and now you need to be a professional at poker to win.

All the Cammy games were complete beatdowns which thought me nothing except 75% of my moveset is useless and I have to somehow play fireball-less Guile into her. I could fight 40 and the number wouldn't change. I don't actually mind Ken that much but if they know how to do that one combo that instantly puts you in the corner it's over. At least Akuma is easy to fight considering how common he is.

ive been trying to think about why this game just randomly feels shit sometimes. I'm a newbie so take this with a grain of salt. but I've been trying to neutral jump and then Tatsu with Kim for a while now in character guides and...does the game just not let you do that?
I feel like that's the disconnect for me, the game doesn't feel as free or natural as I intuitively feel it should, sometimes my inputs will not come out and I'll just have absolutely zero idea as to why, and it feels like there's some secret fact that Im just not aware of, because it should be this hard

I can't test with kim rn, but most air special moves only work with forward jump as a hard rule.
Also inputs are kinda fucky in some cases ye. Did you turn on negative edge? That should make it easier.

Fightans are indeed full of secret rules that are not always obvious to new players, you're not crazy.
There's a lot of resources but it's too much to just absorb overnight. You learn it all over time and with context, like a new language.

What changes is that as you start to understand how those things function, and not just hear an explanation but actually Know how they work in the games context and how to interact with them, (You) stop hating them.
Liking the one-on-one and neutral is a good basis for being a genre fan.
Fighting games probably are for you, but learning and improving at them is as long of a road as you want it to be.
Don't get bogged down about frame data and what combo is optimal until you need to ask those questions/it becomes relevant to (You)

Somewhat agree, gimmick mosquito characters are fine as long as they aren't just busted and have glaring weaknesses.
The problems with top tiers in this and plenty of games is that their "weaknesses" are either: universal in the game, or not actual weaknesses at all and have upsides to them somehow.
But overall, sf6 is pretty balanced in comparison to most fighting games.

no joke actually, I somehow feel like a genius for realizing that you have to start the super inputs basically exactly when you press whatever button you have to cancel into. I will probably never pull this off in a match, but after hours of trying to do it "super fast" and it never working, but other times randomly working, just feeling even the littlest bit like I actually have an idea of what I'm doing...is fun
