>>499741535Gretel has several moves that are ice themed and she has ancestry in the frozen land of Dýrð (Icelandic for glory)
Even for the thunder and fire spells she uses, she calls upon the might of the Norse pantheon.
The idea I was going for was that she was storing fat for the winter so she could hibernate properly, being a squirrel. I wanted characters to have at least a few animal-like traits that were reminiscent of what they were based on. But Blades and Beasts characters don't do things like eating other sentient, speaking animals and I don't think they would really hibernate either. So I also have a thing in the lore about how Gretel is from a well-to-do family. Basically, upper middle class, which is why she works as an Antiquarian. In that time period, people of nobility tended to be heavier because they had access to more food than others. Because of that, higher bodyfat was considered a more desirable trait since it meant that a person was probably in possession of more money.
In fact, even her last name is related to her weight, actually. Willendorf. Like the the Venus of Willendorf. A statue of an overweight woman from antiquity.
Fun fact: Dýrð sounds like an inappropriate word in Japanese, so I localize that as Lof (acclaim) since to my knowledge, ロフ is not a family unfriendly word like ディルド.
