I bought Labyrinth of Refrain back when it's on sale but I kinda enjoy Wizardry more. Of the ones I've played, Dungeon Travelers 2 was the most enjoyable in terms of minmaxing. I liked the rng gear drops there more than how Etrian Odyssey 3 did gear. Only the prequel seems to be on steam though. I originally played the sequel on PSP so have emulation options.

The first-person perspective really hits hard when you keep seeing attacks hit your party members, more or less as if it was a common RPG. but then every now and then the attacks actually (You) and it feels real.

I think they have the challenge, but not the creepy level of Wizardry. I don't think any of them have 3d character animations either. They're usually done specifically so that you DON'T see the character at all and attacks are just slash effects on your screen.

Probably not a popular take, but the already small crowd of dungeon crawler enthusiasts is split anyway:
I think the old style wizardry where you have constant RNG bullshit looming over you and making it through the dungeon is the main ordeal are boring and archaic
This game is better because, while there's still some threat of RNG bullshit happening to you (like Vorpal Bunny ambush) it's overall more tolerable levels, you have usually have ways to play around it and because it's an always online game you actually have to engage with it and can't just default to savescumming
Combat having a lot of options and bosses being decently challenging round it out

I can't reach/touch this skeleton. What gives?
It's like right in the middle of the 4 squares or something. If I strafe I can see the Reverse Hand circle on it for a split second, but the game doesn't allow me to actually press it unless I stand still. But no matter what square I stand on, I am not close enough to actually interact with the skeleton.

Has anyone else had this issue?

I really don't get why I can't trigger giving the knights the heater shields.

I did the quest at the Adventurer's Guild and then sent them to the knights barracks, I reset time to just before the boss fight before the Harken at BF2, there are no dialogue options to give the knights the shields after fighting the boss.

You do; but if a teammate dies in combat you can combat-revive them at full HP at the cost of your own HP (which can then just be healed by a Priest)
If your MC dies your team instantly wipes (and then you have the option to use a revive to reload to before the battle)

Well shit, I figured an Accept Death would have ignored deaths the same way a Flame of Resurrection would. I definitely should have just let MC die when the party wiped in the first place, but I guess I can just take a break here. Unfortunately I never leveled any other characters outside of Dispatches, so I don't think taking a party of 1 Level 30 and 4 Level 1s would turn out too well when even the first dungeon's B1F has level 21 enemies.

You do some other request for obsidian ore or something, and the guy who gives you the reward will turn out to be Lambert's uncle.

The uncle then gives you an item that can take Lambert off from the party.

I think there's some other way to get him not corrupted but I couldn't figure it out.

You can dismiss them from the training room, some guy will take your adventurer and pay you in tags.
I've only done it with named so far, but from what I've heard the no-name fodder give only two ungraded tags if you do that method, which means there's no value to leveling and ranking them up, so you can just dismiss them for a single tag as soon as you get them

And Gerard should do really well with Follow Up Attack. Both are Luck based.

The boss in Port 3F really doesn't mess around. I can't seem to do more than clear his groupies before getting BTFO by his row clear. I could just park the whole front row on Defend until my backline's cleared the mobs, but they'd only be able to kill one guy every two turns at the fastest. It's insane that the boss's minions are stronger versions of normal monsters even before getting his buffs.

Yeka's main element is earth, which is effective in the second dungeon, if there's a wind dungeon at some point, she'll be worse

He can. You can inherit Counter Attack from Ophelia the fighter. And you can inherit Follow Up Attack from Elda the Fighter.
Besides. Knights have like 3 Luck based skills themselves. So if he learned Counter Attack and Follow Up attack and then all the Knight skills. He would benefit a ton from luck.

Yes, the fucker's aoe attacks hit everyone and my mage barely survived once.

If you keep up the atk debuffs and def buffs it shouldn't need too much defense on your backrow, but it can be a huge difference.

Now that I finally have some good gear, here's my opinion on every class' damage:

>Mages of course have very good AoE and debuffs, and thanks to their magic buff skill they can also do really good single target, especially if hitting elemental weakness
>Thieves can be pretty insane, Sneak Attack lets them do normal damage with daggers from the back row. Stack crit and some attack power on them and they can outdamage everyone, but note that they need to use hiding first (unlimited duration, but I think it can break if they take damage) and need to stack a lot of crit. They can also use Warrior's Battle Cry for more damage. Also in the webm Debra is using a kinda shitty +5 dagger while everyone else has good +10 weapons
>Fighters can just unga bunga with 1H weapons and Heavy Attack. But Warrior's Battle Cry's reduced defense can be really bad sometimes, and their stat requirements are pretty tight, since they want accuracy, attack power and defense. 2H weapons seem to be garbage
>Knight damage isn't all that below fighter's, but since they don't want to use Warrior's Battle Cry, against bosses their damage falls off.

I currently get like 2 sp back on kills.
Which isn't too huge amount but, it's a decent enough since i like being able to spam heavy attack.
My reasoning was that debra isn't actually on her own an amazing unit she is kinda carried by the fact shes the only SSR thief.
Also iirc her disciple passive didn't seem very good.

So, to be clear, to get a new rank tag we need to raise someone to the previous rank and release them, right?
I'm looking at the tags and there's like 10 different levels of it. Which, to get an orichalicum tag implies:
Raising someone to level 90, then releasing them
Which requires raising someone to 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20 and releasing them all for this one person, and those people need fucking tags to level up, so we end up with needing 28 released characters to reach max rank.

Overall it was pretty fast.

It's pretty straightforward if you were paying attention
Frequently check for new guild requests
Talk to shopkeeps
Make sure you do as much prep as possible before progressing your dungeon exploration
First few big "points" are B1 Harken, B1 "boss" and both B3 vine traps. Not sure what happens if you screw up along the way but if you can make it to the 2nd B3 vine trap things get easier I think? Don't know, I didn't do anything bricky along the way.

Not that hard. The strat is to bring a mage, flee until he starts off with rabbits, use your mage to nuke all the rabbits first turn, and bombard him with BADIOS and undead bane weapons until he dies.

Elf-Mag is actually fantastic for it.

I would teach your thief Armor Break if you haven't already. And then teach the thief Blessing of Agora.
Unless you're planning to replace your thief in the future.
Having the thief be able to inflict blind, poison, and def down and have all those last longer. Is good.

Stars are more important overall, but early on color gives more stats.
Color gives you blessings without needing to hit the +5/+10/+15 threshholds, which saves a TON of money and mats early on. However, you can take a white piece to max level and get them anyway.
The star grade is the potency of the stats you roll, which is a big deal later on.

Hm. I mean that's a balanced team. Make sure you're using buffs and debuffs. cleric evade buff and mage accuracy debuff combined is good, but also use the mage wait time / evade debuff and to slow them down, and delay attack to give yourself time to prepare for their attacks.

Currently doing some mausoleum testing:

Hooks are only sold at the Jeweler.
The Beginner Support Selection hook can be purchased only once, and for real money.
On the weekly shop, you can get up to 10 hooks, for real money.
So theoretically, Hooks are a very rare resource since the only way to get them is from the pass, and maybe daily rewards in the future.

Run right after posting this they all start moving for some reason. They're easy to dodge though and you should still only have to fight three times - just be sneaky.
Be aware that with 0 fortitude you can only fail a chest trap once - these chests can curse you if you fail

I've got 4/4 of the mage bones and my next two runs only gave me junk so my suspicion is that you get only get one of each bone from the mausoleum, however you can run it as much as you want per day. It can't be used for farming dupes but you can use it to farm any named adventurers you are missing.

Investigate the spot where you came from, the dead end, the door, and the statue. Lulu should then prompt you to restore the dragon statue.
I've also got a near full party wipe and had to rez 4 of my chars. Just remember to wait till their willpower or whatever is above 50 to minimize the risk of ashing.

I am not sure there is any winning now, that shouldn't have been in the game, unless there was a mechanic to get their fortitude up in game.
Say 120 is actual max and everyone can get there, but 80 and 90 ones start at a disadvantage compared to 100 or something like that.

Game explains it terribly, but from what I've gathered with my own testing; it depends on a statcheck (I don't know what stat it is, speed? dex? detect?)
And attacking from behind / the side gives an advantage. Enemies who you haven't detected also probably get a bonus against you.
I've straight up reversed into a red-enemy and didn't get ambushed (presumably because I wont the statcheck); I also got an ambush off by literally running face-first into an enemy while they were looking at me one time and the game told me I had initiative.

It's hard to make an informed decision without knowing how it scales either way. If the luck you put in only changes your chances from 12% to 14% or something, I'm not sure if that's worth bothering with compared to what else you can get with those stat points.

When assigning stat points i try to lean into the characters' strengths, and let their weaknesses stay weaknesses (unless their weakness is vit. no glass joes allowed).

To that end, if I see a fighter with a strong luck score, i'll put points in luck. But so far I haven't seen a luck score over 12. At least I don't think I have.

You can figure out one of them by looking at what skill you'd inherit from them if you used them as fodder, but otherwise no. And sometimes the one you'd inherit isn't even the special one from them (as people have mentioned, such as with Marianne)

Yeah, that's true. I also realize this isn't exclusive to LUK. Some thief abilities scale directly with dex and gear doesn't boost that directly either. Is there anything else like that I'm missing, that scales directly off trait points? I actually tested an account with a full luck Lana with follow up attack inherited onto her and farmed the spinner lady 7 to 12 worth of exp. In that time, I have see her do zero follow up attacks. I found that weird because I have seen my Debra on another account with less luck actually do follow up attacks. The main difference between them was their actionspeed as Debra generally went first and Lana went last on their respective teams. My suspicions were confirmed when I leveled Lana up to 12 and had a priest cast PORTO on her (not sure if it actually increases action speed or a derivative stat of it), and was actually able to see one follow up attack on the same spinner lady after like 4-5 fights.

In NG+ was Elmon dying again inevitable? Or should I have told someone else to go check it? A lot of the class changes are going to be recolors + a few class-appropriate odds and ends. Doing full new costumes would be a bit much, especially if charas are going to end up having multiple class changes and advanced classes.
