Basically everything
endgame gear renders the entire difficulty setting pointless and even if you want to deliberately play without endgame gear it's a pain in the ass because of the auto equip settings that you can't change
this makes them limiting the archetype access also pointless because what the fuck does it matter what classes and skills you get access to when you can just put on the mage king's staff and kill things above your level in action mode before their stagger fills out
Just jack everything's stats up massively and let the player use whatever they had
I want to just play this game over and over as many different ways as the archetype system offers but the game won't fucking let me

Forden actually entrusted an assassination attempt to a nervous, reluctant, 12 year old girl? Pretty sure it was also mentioned beforehand that Louis was about the same age at the time yet Forden says his "military merits are too great to ignore"?

You use them if you want to build a character a specific way on a playthrough. They make them very easy to get, but again I think a much better solution to all of this is just let the player bring over everything exactly the way they had it and do VV Godborn except maybe switch up resistances a bit because you don't have huge enemy bloat in this game compared to that one

Both you get reset to level 1 and none of your stat increases carry over so if you're doing the hardest difficulty NG+ you're basically going to want to just hoard everything.

Two buffer/healers and two attackers is nearly always how these games go. Usually you can have one of the attackers be magic focused, but you don't have a magic user busted on the level MC or Bas is.

That's my issue with this game too. A kino scene gets ruined by a bullshit choice. Why did they give the spear to Forden when they spent the entire trip uncovering the church's dirty laundry?

You can buy the attack and hit/evade ones. The defense ones I got unintentionally because I found out about merchant money farming in the basement of the capital with all the green slime monsters and got like 60 to use the rest of the game

It's just so retarded, this feels like the only game I've played in a while that goes out of its way to contrive itself into a corner for no reason, just like the stupid plan to steal the Formula and how you have to tell Guards 'Let's fight for the key, no this is not suspicious at all' or you get caught in some restricted area during an alert and then end up fighting there too and the game tells you 'these guards will never snitch on potential assassins because they're ashamed of losing a fight'

Where can I get a better Katana for Thief? Best one I have is the one you buy in Montario with 335 attack. I've done every optional dungeon before the avatar and was thorough and never found anything better. Everyone else has weapons in the 400s. List of weapons on other sites don't have locations but theres apparently like 6 katanas stronger than that. No way they are all in the last dungeon.

I think the king being an idiot is intentional. He's idealistic but not practical or all that knowledgeable. So his plans largely fell apart, everyone out manoeuvred him, and his last gambit didn't really make things any more equal.

Was he though? The impression I got was that the Prince didn't even go and live with the King until the village was burned down and his mother was killed. The King could never formally marry The Prince's mother because she was Elda and part of the reason Forden burned the village down was because he didn't want no half-breed out of wedlock brat taking the phone. The game is really good but the last month is going to be the thing that makes it a 8-9/10 instead of a 10/10. Everything just moves fast, and the Mage's Academy is obviously supposed to be a story dungeon that got trimmed down near the end of development. It would've given Basilo a dungeon to properly shine in, and explains why you get so much free time during october.

See the point of the story is that the prince had nothing to his name and was just attacked and hurt just for his blood relations and having no qualities to be the ruler and replacement of the King but despite everything, his will proved that he was the only right person to rule over the country through his achievements in the game.

She couldn't get it back after it pierced Louis because he was fucking with the magla or whatever, the reason given for them not being able to summon it from the stage to the roof is that they'd be seen and presumed to be thieves. How much sense this makes or why it would matter is unclear, at least to me. Even if they were seen, who would care? Forden and the largely-Sanctist crowd? Getting it back ASAP would've prevented anyone from deducing the true nature of the spear, which would've been way more important than possibly being spotted.

I can understand the reaction. The game makes a good first impression and at it's stupidest moments remains entertaining. The general character writing is a step above their other games along with having a better grasp of its themes and message. A lot of people never move on from their initial impression cause many never finish games so I get why it's being said. Same for gameplay. Earliest is strongest cause you can play around more with puzzle bosses and enemies aren't repeating yet. Mid to late feels restricted cause it is buff race with less freedom than SMT. However stuff like action combat while flawed is a step in the right direction. It'd be a 9/10 from me if it wasn't so ugly at times.

The funny thing is that Forden would just make an announcement about how the church has smited Louis and how everyone should praise the church instead of ordering people to look for Louis's killers immediately. He doesnt care about Louis's killer and will use the situation to his own advantage. Getting it back ASAP and running would have worked out way better for the party and Forden would have twisted the situation to his advantage anyways.

I think pretty much nobody, aside from the people assigned to guard the prince, knew who the Prince was or what he was. That was why the MC was able to get away as "posing" as The Prince because the general population had absolutely no idea what the Prince even looked like. It felt nice to not have a twist villain who is really behind everything for once. No, Louis really is just that evil. And him being an Elda just makes a lot of sense. It's mostly I wished they took this further or missing stuff. They could develop the racism even further but the game does a pretty good job at showing the different strata of society as defined by race. Also saying people may miss side stuff is stupid when it is near impossible not to max every social link. Players who engage should be rewarded with more story. They also clearly didn't get some things like linking anxiety to discontent and racism. It makes monsters, so clever. There's accurate complaints buried in there but this reads too much like unorganised thoughts from someone who just finished the game. Also funny how they constantly mention Persona and complain Atlus isn't revolutionary enough. When SMTVV is right there, your girl Yoko is down for it.

Faker and Trickster are your only reliable buff/debuff classes for most of the game, and Faker's Rougery is one of few skills that can manipulate turns so minmaxers love it. It's just not strong on it's own. A couple of your party member should at least invest a little into it to inherit it's skills.

Pacing needs to be fast enough to introduce everything early one. Mind game is when it opens up and allows you to get through all your bond events and quest and is the most gameplay heavy part and then the ending is obviously where the story kicks off where you're pretty much done everything else so it's naturally quick. I remember her bringing up she can see the flow of magla with her third eye and is very sensitive to it, but the only thing she ever brings up that I remember in regards to this and the protagonist is that the drakodios nullifies the king's magic. I have shittalked Metaphor's OST a bit but Shoji Meguro does a particularly great job during the animated cutscenes. Really my only problem is how repetitive a lot of it gets, which is less of a problem than it is in Persona since the game's shorter.

Well I finally completed the 4th dungeon last night
It wasn't Okumura as I thought. No, nothing like that.
Every time I went off the mandatory path to find a bit of treasure, I regretted it.
I still found everything and did it in one day, though. Thank you Magla crystals and pills.
This is definitely that one level that will cause people to hesitate when thinking about replaying the game

The Archetypal Ring, Utilitarian Manual, and Dodger Ring are probably the most "important" things to buy, and maybe the elemental dodge accessories just in case you want them. There's some weapons that cost 300K each in the town next to Grand Trad, but I didn't bother with them and you get better weapons for free in the final dungeon.

Archetypes are quite literally fantasy magic mechas, if you've seen Heismay's first time using the archetype cutscene, it covers his whole body and it becomes his new body. The same applies to everyone else when they use their archetypes in cutscenes.

It has a simple gimmick
Use faker to debuff his attack to force a wasted turn removing it
Make sure you remove all debuffs on your party every turn.
Make sure you can bot the barrier on your final turn to force her to reapply it.
In between just chip away at it and manage frostbite. It's a repeat of the first dragon fight in the mines, just with more to manage.

So I'm trying to complete the 3x dragon tower challenges, and I'm sort of stuck at the third one. The charm/9999x fire damage every other round dragon.

It looks like need to purify some shoes in order to get a third negate fire item, I have the shoes, but I'm fresh out of the lowest base tier blessed water mat. Currently, I have plenty of the rare blessed water mats, as I happened to steal from all the late game mimics. But it looks like I fucked up with the basic mats, and didn't stock up enough for the late game.

Is there any way for me to get any of the base tier blessed water mats at this point?

Same with the dindu nuffin paripus revolt. It's like they are afraid to deal with the grey areas of races and minority religions. One of my biggest problems with this game is how they made the church an almost absolute evil entity.
It would have been much more thematically interesting if Forden was a lawfag desperate to maintain the status quo in a world on the brink of change, instead of being the villain of every Fire Emblem game ever.

Biggest plot hole:

Both Hulkenberg and Grius were with the prince when he got cursed, the prince was even shown to be in the latter's arms at the time of the infliction.

The prince then somehow makes his way to the Eldan Sanctum, unbeknownst to Grius and Hulk and they're left thinking he's dead. Even the fucking king thought he was dead and that's why he had given up on living altogether.

I didn't really have issues with Archetype EXP, all my Royal Archetypes were level 19/20 before the final boss. And my levelling wasn't ideal, basically everyone had an Archetype line levelled that didn't contribute to their Royal one. Is there a multiplier on your EXP gain based on difficulty or something? I was playing on Normal and not grinding beyond what I needed to in order to recover MP. I did do all the side dungeons, though.

You when Atlus say they want to move away from rereleases I actually believe them. Look at what 2 of you said. You already played P5 and had no motivation to play Royal and I've got to think that this being /vg/ you are more autistic than your average consumer so do you think a normal Joe is going to be willing to play through P5 again just for Royal? I don't think Royal really attracted anyone new to play it either. The only other example of them doing this was SMTVV but you have to remember SMTVV wasn't just a rerelease it was also a console port as PS5 never got SMTV as it was Switch exclusive. I don't think rereleases are really the money maker people here seem to think they are.

The new boss is the best villain in the game since Kamoshida in my opinion, and the last semester is pretty cool. Also the gameplay is actually slightly improved, stuff like infinite ammo and stuff. The most underrated change in Royal is the combat for sure though, the way they made status effects and Technicals morerelevant just gives you more options, like using Makoto's Nuclear to proc One More now makes her way more fun to use.

Royal is also a rebalance mod.
They added more features to velvet room, removed a lot of limitations such as gun ammo and executions, put in more passives, reworked some social link buffs, added more time slot and stat increasing activities, stuff like that.
Still doesn't warrant a rerelease though

Also time management gets easier as the games come out. In 3, it's brutal, in 4 it's unforgiving, in 5 it's somewhat forgiving.

P5 is very easy to finish all social links blind on a first playthrough. P4 you are going to need to follow a guide.
Basically the more recent these games the easier the time management became. For Metaphor you can effortlessly do everything without worrying about minmaxing at all and still have like two weeks left over at the end

Yes. The game gave you more free time and added a bunch of social stat activities to inside Le Blanc so yo could still build social stats even when you were on a "Story" night or something.

If you're playing golden, it's not too bad. It has the same fortune teller bond buff, and it's easier to unlock than 5. I didn't consult a guide, but I did use a calendar to optimize my run.
The way nanako and dojima's social link is done is probably the best s-link implementation in persona, you should play it guideless.

Kamoshida was great because there was very much a personal reason for the group which faded more and more as the game went on and they became more detached from their targets. Maruki brings it all back to being a very personal thing between him and Joker and the final phase just essentially being two men communicating with their fists as Maruki vented out his frustrations just stuck with me.

For me the strongest thing Metaphor has over P5 isn't that it uses the superior Press Turn system or that I enjoy the job system over fusing demons, but that as a whole it's more dynamic. The constant town changing stops it feeling stale and narratively the game is full of curveballs.

Yeah. I went and re-watched the final battles for both P5 and P5R and you can definitely tell that those games had much more of a budget than Metaphor, which isn't a bad thing or anything.
It just kind of showcases that Atlus did seem to play it safe with Metaphor in terms of budget and production just in case they ended up with a SH2's situation. I guess it also showcases even though Hashino has proved himself to be incredibly competent that Atlus won't just give him a blank cheque.
If we do see some kind of follow up then I expect that Atlus will probably give Hashino more of a budget.

Archetypes are lifted for Digital Devil Saga

Virtues/bonds are lifted from Persona basically verbatim with just the name changed

The only original thing is the plot, which for me personally isn't as interesting as average SMT or Persona game. Playing the game makes me feel like I should be play another Atlus game instead. But maybe that was the point??

I think that's just the game not being too gruesome, the guy says something 'writhe like the maggot you are' before gives the order to hang. Either way, even if their necks snap i'd say that the weekly hanging of innocents is a massive injustice to overlook. I'm not saying it affects the game or anything it just felt like a crazy fact that the game just throws in there.

Does anyone else think that the game could've benefitted from having the design of the game be slightly older or at least more consistent?
Don't get me wrong I do like the art style. But the combination of buildings that range from medieval to art deco and clothing that ranges from the late 60's/early 70's to modern shit that you'd see in a Vouge magazine really sort of threws me off sometimes.
None of it is bad, I just wish it could've been more consistent more often,

I'm pretty sure I've softlocked myself on the Sogne fight. Pretty much out of ideas at this point. Complete bullshit that it just has some special barrier that can't be dispelled by all the skills that are supposed to do that. I think Martira was the most fleshed out part of the game.

Honesty, the group shouldnt have pretended to work for Louis. It would have made sneaking in his skyrunner less retarded if it was just a straight up covert operation.
